Such an awesome way to spend the day. The restored buildings, repurposed as store fronts, museums or restored to their original glory. So much information stepping back in time. Wide variety of shopping and all of the employees are so friendly. Plenty of shaded areas and wide open spaces to sit and enjoy munching on the endless amount of goodies you can purchase. Love to see the history preserved in such a way.

I really don't understand why the city doesn't promote this attractive and beautiful place more. Amazing relaxed atmosphere, lots of lights, good music and great food. A truly unique atmosphere, interesting museums and shops with local products.

One of the best & historical place to visit in San Diego...i suggest its a must in your list if ever land in the city as a tourist. A kind lady suggested me to visit the park & experience was awesome! Large variety of food, liquor, jewelry items, clothing & home decor are available. Prices are a bit higher like one can find in any tourist place. The museums (few of them have free visiting hours) have preserved the historical heritage of the ancient San Diego in a modern way!!!!

Nice and relaxing! Fun to walk around and explore! As you're walking around or riding around this area, it's interesting to think about the history! Interesting area fill of people and history! A joy to walk around in, and the people are nice and helpful! Thank you for preserving this area and keeping it in it's current condition, impressive!

Really neat place! So much history here and a lot of the buildings are from the 1800s. You'll see a lot of unique tools from those times and learn about the way of life back then. There's also a LOT of cool shops. One of them sells a root beer float which is really good. Other shops have endless trinkets, you'll most certainly find something that's worth buying. Parking is a pain, though. There is free parking but it's quite limited, and around 10am it's already filling up. Come early if you want to find parking easily.

A must-see historical location I just love the old town, it is historic, well preserved diverse, you can find some nice free museums, some of them have actors dressed as their role and they show you how this person used to do their job, you can also find a good market, some shops…etc.

Presidio Park is amazing!!! When visiting Old Town San Diego grab some food and blanket to picnic at the park. It is nice and neat, so relaxing and gorgeous view. There is not enough parking spot at there but is worth to visit. You can visit the Museum as well, good place to explore and exercise. Definitely San Diegans need to know this gem. Please don't forget to take your trash with you! Early in the morning is very peaceful you can heard all this different kind of birds singing. Great spot to get married!!!

Had a great time walking around and checking out the cute shops! We were there when they had a history talk about bloomers. It was so interesting! Stores were over priced, but it's a tourist place. If you like root beer, or even just different kinds of soda, you need to check out the store with the sign "buy 1 get 1 root beer floats". There are so many different kinds of sodas and root beers. A lot of the stores have so much interesting stuff in them too! I didn't think the cigar store would have anything but cigars in it, but it had displays of pipes going back to the B.C. and other old collectables. So glad I went in, and I don't even smoke! My friend bargained for a great price on jewelry with gems in it.

An Amazing place to visit. There is so much history, so much beauty. For me it is one of the best places to visit in California, hands down. It clean, its fun. The shops sell local merchandise. The food is great. There is something here for everyone. It is a must do... and an FYI this really is an all day place. So come in early if you can and plan to spend 4+ hours here if you want to take everything in. And also, wednesdays seems to be when many things are closed, at least at the time of this post, so thursdays, fridays and obviously weekends will have more, however it will also be busier.

A really interesting depiction of the life in the Old West, with many different options for crafts and dining. Parking was easily available and it was just a short detour from the highway. Plan on spending about 45 minutes just walking around and checking the different shops. Add about one hour to have a meal in one of the many restaurants (some of them a bit more expensive than what we could find elsewhere for the same type of food but not prohibitively so). A good place to stop by in a visit to San Diego.

Nice park close to our hotel. Only a 5 min walk. Although a lot of tourists of course, but worth a visit. We've also been there for a Mexican dinner in a very nice Mexican restaurant. All thumbs up.

Beautiful old town of San Diego. It offers you so many chances to look back in history and what its past was. I can say it's one of the most beautiful destinations for anyone who's into history, souvenir, coziness and scenery. You can walk with your loved ones and enjoy the moments together!

Old Town San Diego is a must see place when you visit San Diego, California. It is a mix of many shops, eatery places, new and old. You will enjoy the old style of the area while enjoying a mix and many different varieties of food/places to fit everyone's taste. If you can stay at one of the local hotels, this will be a plus so you can wake up in the morning and roam around this awesome place.

Only visit briefly but had a wonderful time. It was just before the end of Oct so before their 'Day of the Dead' celebrations. While the skeletons were a bit confronting I could see their beauty. Food was fantastic. I would love to come back and spend more time here.

My family and friends love Old Town San Diego State Park, because it is a self-contained oasis of fine Mexican food, fun Mexican themed shops, and fantastic historical landmarks. We enjoy staying at the Best Western Hacienda so we can just walk from our room and in 2 minutes we are enjoying this amazing gem. Old Town San Diego has great spots for taking pics, eating fresh tortillas, and strolling in the park with live music.

Located only 30 minutes away from the border of Mexico, Old Town is the perfect place in San Diego, to experience a little taste of Mexico without crossing the border. The Old Town historic park commemorates the early days of the town of San Diego and includes many historic buildings from the period 1820 to 1870.It was established in 1968. One central shopping area of note in Old town is the Bazaar del Mundo, an open-air square with shops on three sides and a fountain.Another popular shopping area is Old Town Market in the Old Town State Historic Park that has about 40 stores filled with Mexican ceramics, San Diego souvenirs, colorful art, blown glass and more.Great place to visit!

Don't let the title fool you. Haven't seen real old buildings. Most of them are rebuilded like in a theme park. If you want to taste the Mexican (romanticised) hype/ambiance it is the place to be though, but still: it's a theme park. Maybe it's an alternative for the "real" Mexico, where you have to travel two more hours to the south.

This park is unbelievable. It's a testament to how much San Franciscans love their city that they continuously fund this gem of a park rather than sell off the property for the untold billions it could get on the real estate market. This park has a science museum, an art museum, a conservatory, a botanical garden, a tea garden, two windmills, a bison field, an archery range, a golf course, an outdoor roller rink, and tons of other stuff. There's a convenient shuttle to move you from one side to the other, which is good because this park is THREE MILES LONG (it's a larger area than Central Park in NY). There are also bike rentals if you don't want to walk.

Beautiful historic State Park with lots of beautiful architecture to admire. There are also plenty of places to buy souvenirs from and restaurants to eat. Make sure to arrive before the museums close which is usually 5 p.m. There are also tours that you can take that start at the state park for an additional fee. The state park and the museums within are free. A fantastic place to stop for all you history buffs! Please make sure to stop and admire the individuals who are in period costume.

What an awesome experience. To walk through this beautiful little town that has captured the history of the land and the people who once lived their lives day in and day out in this town was such an educational and fun way to learn more about the people and the birth of San Diego. For any parents homeschooling their children in or near this area, this is a wonderful and insightful hands on history lesson, and for anyone who just wants to appreciate and enjoy learning the rich and beautiful history of the Hispanic people of San Diego, I highly recommend this wonderful "trip back in time" visit.

This is a 100% must visit! Super clean. Very safe. And lots of fun restaurants and shops. They’ve done a good job with the old spanish colonial architecture - and the western them in other areas - to created a very authentic experience. If you are in San Diego, put this on your list. Plus, it has it’s own dedicated metro train stop.

The culture is so alive and Old Town San Diego. The history, the battles, I can picture the old the bad and the good. But I'm glad that there's so many small businesses. That made it so successful and beautiful. If you love an adventure and if you ever need to clear your head. Definitely come here to be inspired by so many culture. It was just so awesome having my mom and dad explain everything to me when I lived in the US and then they lived in Mexico. So proud of everything that has been becoming.

Definitely an educational site of San Diego history including the first school building and a courthouse. Many vendors with unique local items such as Mexican decor and lawn outdoor ornaments, a really unusual cigar shop that if I were an aficionado would be a frequent patron, and legitimate Mexican restaurants. A lot of history and arts/crafts. A must see for tourists and locals. Also just outside the immediate area are many other restaurants and retail merchants.

LOVED IT!! WHAT A COOL HISTORICAL SPOT TO VISIT. It was so interesting learning all the history of San Diego, I had no idea! The food was authentic and absolutely delicious from the few spots I ate. The sidewalk markets were filled with the most vibrant colors and many hand made gifts and souvenirs. I had to stop at Zoltar and get my fortune for sure. The grounds were kept up so well with the landscaping, art and over all cleanliness. I am so happy I got to experience this piece of cultural art.

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is a captivating step back in time, providing a rich and immersive experience of California's history. As a visitor, you are transported to the early 19th century when San Diego was just a Mexican pueblo. The park meticulously preserves and recreates the atmosphere of this era, offering a glimpse into the past. Wandering through the cobblestone streets of Old Town, you'll find a plethora of well-preserved historic buildings, each with a unique story to tell. The park showcases the diversity of cultures that shaped San Diego's heritage, from Mexican adobes to Victorian-era houses. There's a sense of authenticity that makes you feel like you're walking through a living museum.

This is an awesome place to spend the day! A trip back in time in San Diego and where it all began! If you love history, culture ,folklore and cool ghost stories this is the place to hang out! From an old cemetery to the most haunted house in America this place has it all! There are old Victorian homes to see, places to eat, margaritas to drink! Great decorations during the holidays! Love to just walk around and visit all the shops! They do have a main parking lot but it usually takes awhile to find a spot especially on the weekends. Certain places like The Mormon battalion, the Victorian houses, cafe coyote do have their own designated parking lot but you must go to that specific place. Also has a market on the weekends. Got to see the Mariachi Fusion perform in the gazebo area in front of casa de Reyes, Best mariachi ever!! These guys are awesome!

The whole town center was meticulously restored to showcase what it looked like in the early years. The best part is that all the main museums are free to the public, and they even offer free narration. It felt like I was transported to the days of the Wild West! There are all kinds of souvenir shops and restaurants in the area, too. There's a free parking lot, too, which is quite unusual for San Diego!

Kitschy and cute shoos and stores, Mexican, Sicilian, and seafood restaurants with casual atmospheres, outdoor booths and stalls, historic museums with people dressed up in historic costumes, beautiful plants and the old town theatre... Top it off with the Whaley ghost house and museum and you’ve got an amazing Saturday in old town. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it’s incredible how much San Diego values its history. I hope the city continues to share these treasures and experiences with visitors and residence… for free. ❤️👍🏼👏🏽

My son has an ancestor who was a musician in the Mormon Batallion. In 1847, Willard G. Smith did volunteer work, along with his fellow soldiers in Old Town, so we love to go there to honor his memory. We also enjoy the Hispanic influence in Old Town San Diego. We celebrated Christmas early there and enjoyed the ambience

Went to the spice and tea shop at old town park. Oh the goodness that is in side. Every spice you can imagine plague the walls in jars from room to room.. Can't wait to explore my love of cooking. My daughter comes to make her own teas by buying it whole. She has some here that she cannot find anywhere else. Flew in from Oregon yesterday and flying back on Sunday but always stops here. I live in San Diego so I will be back for all kids of goodies

The place is Okay. It was raining today though. Most of museums are closed. However we visited one with trains. I was amused! Such a detailed city with little people, cars, moving trains. It looks so real! There are plenty of little cafes and restaurants. You will also find here any souvenir you can imagine) Parking lot is big enough and free.

Great location to explore San Diego's history and have a little picnic. The kids loved it and so did we. San Diego sunny skies generally make this a great outing.

  • 4/5 Dan S. 3 years ago on Google
Great place to spend the day enjoying a touch of of that old western town feeling. Lots of good things to eat, and lots of nice trinkets and gifts to pick up for what is not too unreasonable prices. Some areas do get much more crowded than others, and there are plenty of people who don't seem to care about wearing a mask, so be aware that it is not the ideal place to visit during covid. Additionally, many of the museums and shops were closed due to covid, so be ready to spend most of your time outside. Line for lunch was extremely long (over an hour wait in many of the nearby restaurants), so come early or be prepared to wait. Lastly, although there are various parking lots in the area, parking can be difficult to find, so prepare to camp out for people leaving, or to circle around the blocks multiple times before you find a spot.

These pictures were just tooken less than a week ago. Pictures of the San Diego River project in the making. If we can keep it up and not give up, I'd say that we would pretty much finish it by the mid-year next year. I am doing my best too, as much as my old-butt can keep it going! #Blessed!#

Let me start by saying that I hate the whole car-buying experience. I do not like how some car salesmen would treat female clients. That being said I do a lot of research online before I even step into a showroom. I made the mistake of going to one in the East Bay. I was looking for a hybrid RAV4 AWD. Soon as I stepped out of my car, the hard sale started. This particular dealership did not have exactly what I wanted so I decided to leave. Needless to say, my phone won't stop ringing for weeks. I had to block the calls.

That is the most beautiful place in San Diego! It smells history and you feel yourself part of past and present. All historic buildings and pavements keep its unique character. Even people jump to higher vibrational state when been present in that area. Friendly environment and funny decoration makes this place unforgettable. Highly recommend to visit local bars and restaurants.

I hope San Diego residents recognize how lucky they are to have such a huge span of beautiful park land right in the middle of the city. It's a lovey place to walk around, boats several museums and attractions and if you're not planning on staying all day has a decent amount of free parking.

There are several horse drawn carts and wagons and the whole city is well decorated. There are several little shops with souvenirs or some older things and some very good typical restaurants. This park is absolutely gorgeous, as is so many parks in San Diego. And like those other parks, Easter is disastrous to them. If you’re going to hide your eggs with chocolate or sugary treats inside, be sure you know where they are in case your kids don’t find them. We found many eggs that were left behind and chewed into by animals. Hope it wasn’t chocolate.

It is just like Mini Mexico , similar to China Town but in much smaller town. May interest those who hv not visited Mexico. There is a musical program conducted in the enclosed quadrangle, which is quite relaxing, can sit and watch . Olive oil and hot sauce tasting is free , artifacts by Mexicsn artists are interesting but expensive.A few good Mexican restaurants are also inside.

The Park is an old historic monument from San Diego's mission days perched on the top of a hill with a large shaded picnic and rec area with tables and bbq pits. It also has vast shaded grounds that offer privacy if wanted...a great place to spread a blanket and daydream the day away under old ancient pines and enjoy the constant breeze! Awesome place perched overlooking Old Town.

It was quite busy for a Monday afternoon but such an interesting feeling that, everything was there for my eyes only. It was beautiful and filled with rich history. Cafe coyote is where we ate and we love them. Definitely go downtown and explore.

Loved it! Such a beautiful place to visit with plenty of little shops, buildings, plants, and decor. A great place for kids with open grass areas and public restrooms. A plethora of Mexican food restaurants just south. Not all shops are Mexican-Chicano based, which I thought was a bit odd walking into a Tibetan shop suddenly. Wear comfortable shoes as there is plenty to walk. You can also catch the trolly and tour all of San Jose.

New area honoring the region's first inhabitants the different bands of the kumeyaay people. This section of the park has native plants and very nice mosaic scenes depicting how the area might have looked in a few centuries ago. Brings a previously missing chapter to historic Old Town state park.

Old Town is an authentic historic village that is the most significant one on the West Coast. It is the birthplace of San Diego and California. Several original buildings from the 1800s are preserved and available to tour. Great outdoor Mexican restaurants some with live music. Shopping and just walking around in a peaceful atmosphere. For a real treat go to the San Diego Tour Association website and arrange for a walking tour. They have English and Spanish speaking guides for private and group walking tours.

Beautiful hidden gem! We absolutely loved all the shops and open air restaurants. Employees were extremely helpful and even recommended competitors if they didn’t have what we were looking for. Free parking was a blessing, too. Great food. Great coffee. Great atmosphere. Only saw one police officer, so I’d like there to have been more.

Great place that everyone should visit. I was advised that is very touristy but actually it didn’t feel so. There are so many little stores, markets and restaurants that you can easily spent half a day exploring.

Old Town is a great spot for tourists and visitors to the San Diego area. There are multiple restaurants and shops to experience. I must say that there needs to be improvements to the restrooms. San Diego has visitors from all over the world and a dirty restroom doesn't give a good first impression. People can take the trolley to and from Old Town and even connect to the Coaster train or Amtrak for points north.

Prepare yourself to travel back in time in the heart of San Diego. This historic site is full of old buildings, cute shoppes, restaurants serving classic Mexican cuisine and ample/free parking. This is a great spot for families, as well as anyone looking to experience something new ❤️

An absolutely amazing experience. So much history and culture to take in. There was incredible live music being performed for an excited crowd. The El Campo Cemetery is full of history. Be sure to read the informative plaques in front of many of the graves. Be sure to take in the beauty of The Church of The Immaculate Conception and it’s many beautiful pieces of art and devotion spread throughout its property. The overall feel and experience of the area is incredible. You can’t go to San Diego and not go to Old Town. Time well spent!

Had so much h fun, the buildings are nice to see and the shops we had to put a limit for how much to spend since everything is authentic, cute, handmade or nostalgic. The frightseeing night tours looked fun we took pictures with the staff, didn't have time to take a tour plan on coming back before it ends. I recommend taking your time and enjoy, we did.

  • 5/5 lilian g. 1 year ago on Google
Pretty cool location, has a ton of history and a couple of free museum walk through of old houses or restaurants of what they used to be. There are a ton of little stores that sell souvenirs, crystals and other culture items during those times. It's a great location to spend the morning or afternoon walking around. There are also a couple of Mexican restaurants in the area. I will say that when you walk into the locations it does have a smell. I wasn't a fan but they have a cemetery nearby which was small but if you look near it on the sidewalk you will see small circle gold plates which are graves that were built over.

First time visiting Old Town San Diego since I was a kid, at least 45 years ago. Anyway, I liked that the state park has free parking and entrance. It has some cool historic buildings, along with some neat little shops. It is very touristy. But, that's to be expected. If you're hungry, there are lots of restaurants to choose from very near by. I wasn't able to spend as much time as I would have liked there, but it was interesting and I enjoyed visiting.

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is a captivating destination that transports visitors to California's mid-1800s history. With its authentic atmosphere, well-preserved buildings, and interactive exhibits, the park effectively showcases the lives of early settlers. The museums, reenactments, and events provide an educational and immersive experience. Whether you're intrigued by history or seeking a unique outing, the park offers a rich blend of culture, dining, shopping, and historical significance. It's a worthwhile stop for anyone exploring San Diego's past.

Amazing place to spend a day with family! The old town has many structures from 1800's which are still in good shape and includes multiple exhibits. The amazing and friendly volunteers were happy to show us around. Safe place and fun place for kids. Amazing food... Convenient parking spaces and everything is walkable even though trolleys are available to just relax and take a tour.

Being the first town in San Diego, it’s great to learn so much about the history of SD. Plus there’s lots of little shops and restaurants where grabbing a churros one place, then walking to the next to try homemade taffy, etc. I purchased the self-guided tour book from the visitors center for $4 & it was worth it to learn about the area since the plaques don’t say as much. Parking is free.
