The actual Friendship Park is only open Saturday & Sunday from about 10am to 2pm. You can drive up directly to the park when the gate is open and it’s during park hours. It’s $7 to park in the park. When the gate is closed you can park outside the Border Field Park gate and walk in until about 7pm or sunset. It’s about a 1.5 mile walk roughly 30 minutes. You may be asked to show your ID from Border Patrol so take that with you. This area does have the occasional snake so watch where you walk.

Pretty surreal experience as an American on the American side. You have to drive down some unkept roads through pretty barren land to get here. There are 2 big fences - one which actually runs along the international border and another one offset which prevents you from going up to the first fence. You can see people on the Mexican side going right up to the fence to peer through and talk with friends/family on the other side. You can also see people going about daily life on the other side, chilling on the beach or walking on nearby roads. There were a few Border Patrol vehicles and agents in the area, despite the imposing scene you actually feel pretty safe. A pretty clear and tangible divide between two different nations and ways of life.

Just had to go to see the "Great Big Beautiful Wall" while in California. Found the entrance to Border Field State Park and was given helpful comments on where to find the beach where the wall enters the ocean. I parked in the car park at the International Friendship Park and walked to the top of the dune system overlooking the ocean. Had a friendly chat with a Border Force Officer who commented on various ways, illegal migrants and refugees use to enter the USA including jet-skis by travelling several miles out to sea beyond the range of their night vision goggles and binoculars. He also pointed out why it was too dangerous to attempt to swim around the ocean wall extension due to rips and eddies that often drowned people attempting to swim to the USA. While I was there the people in Tijuana were celebrating a holiday and it sounded as if the best place to be was in Mexico with a lively Mariachi Band.

The Friendship Circle and Bi- National Garden was closed when we visited but you’re still able to walk around the US side of the park. While visiting, we saw someone climb over the border and get arrested by Border Control. We spoke to a border control agent and he said it happens multiple times a day and to be cautious when we’re hiking in that area.

It’s a great idea that of a park where two distinct countries can come together. We parked and rode our bikes in. It’s maybe around two miles to the park where you are so close to the border wall. On the way in you regularly see helicopters and Border suvs on patrol. On the US side it’s very quiet, but looking through the wall to the Mexican side it’s lively with music , people mingling and the smell of carne asada. I was joking with my family that the border guards must buy food through the wall from the Mexicans. I know It must be hard for them to be on the border smelling that great food all day. There are signs that say to be advised of sewage contaminated water on the road. You have to go off the road and through the grass to avoid it. I’m sure very soon they’ll take care of that since it seems they are improving things like a fence throughout the park. Overall it was a nice experience. I’m sure it’s a better experience on the Mexican side.

If you want an adventure this is a nice hike. There is a bit of a walk as it is 1 ¾ mile hike to the ocean and border wall. Avoid the water as it is usually sewage contaminated. It is worth the view although a little depressing. It is pretty deserted on the USA side but on the Mexico side it is a busy and crowded beach with onlookers from platforms and through the fence. Border patrol watches intently from hill top. And a light house is also perched in the hill.

Unfortunately road access to the Park is closed off, so it's about a 40 minute hike from the nearest parking spot. Still it was quite a unique experience seeing where the border wall meets the ocean(just don't get too close, "La Migra" is watching).

The walk to the beach and park is nice but kind of has an abandoned desolate feel. Don't walk past the silver metal fence on the US side or CBP will sound alarms. On the way back, the lighthouse flashed at me multiple times and when driving out of the parking lot I was followed by CBP. Nothing happened, but it was pretty uncomfortable.

Interesting place to visit. I was very courious is possible to see the border from the USA side. Yes its possible. Access to the park costs $5 and you can stay there to about 6pm. What is interesting 10 people at once can get into place between two fences to meet others people from mexican side.

Almost all of the photos are of the Mexican side of the border. The US side is a crappy park area with no maintenance on a beautiful nature preserve/estuary. $5 entry and don't expect much, check it off the list worth it. If you ever want your own private beach there are miles. Just don't go in the water, the whole TJ sewage thing.

We’re traveling for a few days and decided to stop by here to see how this border separation really is like. Definitely an interesting experience, lots of people even locals hanging out and taking pictures. Police are nearby and eventually as the sun was setting they started telling people to go back up the walkways, not sure if it’s due to covid or because it’s close to the border. We even got our Ids checked because they thought we might have drugs or something but it was fine. Overall definitely recommended plenty of places to eat and grab coffee.

Very pretty but all the signs, heart monuments and statues have been defaced and spray painted on. It’s smelly and trash is thrown all over the ground. The vibe is fun and full of life on the weekend

Definitely worth a visit! You can get a chance to talk with people through the wall and the BPOs are very laid-back.

Loved it. So sad that it only opens on weekends.

I just visited the area not knowing it was closed because I took a very small overgrown path, and witnessed heavy equipment building a second wall. Are they separating the 2 countries as if it's the Berlin wall?!

The park is always open, although vehicles are not allowed to drive in, it’s about 30min slow walk from parking, pretty much all flat, can also bike. You can’t get too close to the “wall”, min. 30/40ft away from it.

It was closed when we visited. We saw people trespassing and hiking for about 40 min to get to the park but we prefer to stay at the parking to avoid getting in trouble. There’s not much to see from there, you can see a bit of the wall separating Tijuana and San Diego but nothing too interesting.
