Great place to camp if you want to explore San Diego. The beach is only ten miles away. The campground is divided up into two sides: South loop being lengthy dirt pads, doubled up (no privacy), with horses pens, picnic tables, and fire pits. Each site has water and electric hook ups. There’s one bathroom with 2 of the 3 pay showers working and 1 of the 2 toilets working. They don’t seem to be in a hurry to do repairs. The North loop is much nicer with lengthy paved pads, water, electric, and sewer. You’re not doubled up and actually have some space between sites but still little privacy. There’s actually two bathroom buildings on the North loop with 6 individual (private) bathrooms including 4 handicapped bathrooms of which 2 were closed for repairs. They didn’t seem to be in a hurry to do the repairs and I wonder if they were ADA compliant with 2 shut down. The bathrooms were pretty nice but the showers weren’t mad for taller people and the showered heads were too close to the valve causing them to be against you back when under the shower (Poorly done with no concern for actual use or people over 5’ 10”). There are nice views of town and the reservoir from some campsites. Lots of trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, in the area. Close to shopping. Cell service for Verizon. Teach your children and keep your pets near because there are snakes in the area. I saw 2, including a rattler. The park service seems to spray after each guest but they still have an ant problem. Luckily they are the tiny black variety which don’t seem to do much damage as long as you seal you four. Then again, we will see how long it takes me to get rid of then after I leave. In conclusion I would say this is a very nice place to camp, especially the newer nicer North loop. Would visit again.

We stayed at the campgrounds here and enjoyed it. We were in space #11. It had a good view and a little shade from trees. It was level and had hookups for electric and water. There is a good sized curb (smooth) to go in and out of the spot but we did not scrape. I enjoyed the sunset views. It was pretty quite, distant traffic and planes overhead in the daytime. The other campers were quiet and friendly. The ranger/greeter was very nice. The bathroom was clean, metal toilets, but they do call it camping. Showers available for tokens. We walked some easy trails. Looked at the kids area, the splash park looks like fun.

Friendly staff. Beautiful park and well maintained. Mostly pull thru, some back in but all good sized sites. Fire pits. Some full hookups, some partial water/electric, only slight difference in price. Good location. Playground. splash pad(closed in winter) for kiddos. Nice views at the picnic and community areas. Horse stalls and trails. Decent price around $29-$40 night. They charge $4 per night extra car fee besides the truck pulling the RV. Would be nice if they allowed 2 vehicles in the price of stay. Nightly pet fee. Also you have to buy tokens for the shower system ugh. 4 for $1 .. about $1-2 a shower. But it was a decent shower with upgraded, well maintained facilities! They're doing more work around the park also. Nice quiet stay, except the partiers on the weekend, but that's to be expected.

Loved this campsite. You can hear the highway just a bit off down the hill. But we chose a partially shaded spot for tent camping. Very affordable I think it was $25 USD a night. There is a spot for hook up, but you have to pay extra. We chose the side that's more private. The higher number campsites do have two side by side in a lane style. So choose 1-20 and you should have a campsite with more privacy overall. Rangers were very friendly. You will need tokens for the showers. 2 tokens to start = 4 mins. 1 token is 2 mins extra after. Don't know cost my partner paid for those. There is a lovely trail that goes from the north side camp across the highway, down by the golf course then comes back up alongside the south campground. Roughly 2 miles. Steep hills but we enjoyed it for running.

You can do multiple things in this beautiful area hike, fish, bike, horseback ride. The small water play area is closed because of COVID but the park is really nice . They even have some nice outdoor gym work out areas along the edge of the park. You can camp here as well. We also like how you can take a small hike and get a good view of fishing lake or take a long hike all the way to Mount Miguel. Fun outdoor day. Highly recommend it.

This park has a combination of partial or full RV hook up camp sites. Our site was full hook up and had beautiful day and night time views. It was generally very quite just the sound of the toll road below us, which didn't bother us. I didn't have a problem with it, but there was a horse stable near the site. The people taking care of the horse did keep up with the up keep and smell was minimal. The staff are very friendly and keep up on park maintenance. There is hiking trail access and a reservoir, but no boat or trail access to the reservoir. The location of the park is centrally located, usually took us 20 to 30 minutes to get to nearby attractions. This was a good find and our second stay. We would stay again in the future.

We really like this park. Water park is $3 a kid and worth every cent. Gets real busy on the weekends. Go early if you want to stake out a picnic spot! Work out areas and trails. Bring your bikes!

The pure nature of this place is simply magical. First off, the scenery is astounding. The view of the lake (Sweetwater reservoir) is amazing the blueness, so deep, so rich, the protected land of which this beauty was created suppress reality and open a new world of imagination. You can fish here for a small fee or just walk around the trail and explore to you hearts content. From a camping perspective the lots seem comfortable enough though I do not have personal experience with them. The staff is extremely nice and they are passionate about protecting the land. The wildlife is unique to say the least. With the seemingly never falling birds, speckling the sky. Overall the park is just pure nature. Whenever I go I feel alive as if enchanted by the beauty of my surroundings.

Great place to camp and ride bikes. Lots of trails. On the edge of the city. Great for feeling you are getting away without going far. Staff is really nice. Restrooms are clean with flush toilets (accept at the bike park). Bike parks had things for everyone from kids on striders to pros. You might even see a back flip or two!

First off not accommodating. We arrived a few hours early. They made us turn our 35 foot rv pulling a car around and made us leave till 2pm. Didn't even look to see if our site was available. Which it was. We would have paid more. If you're not looking for peace and quiet this is the place you wanna be. Airplanes and helicopters flying over constantly. Also they have construction going on. So all you hear is beep beep beep. No privacy. Also says no smoking lol what a joke sorry you can't tell me if I can smoke or vape in my own rv. The sunset was smoggy but still pretty. Glad we only paid for 1 day. Won't be coming back. 👋✌️

Visited twice for camping trips and have had a great time overall. We brought our bikes, and did very pleasant long rides to Imperial Beach, Downtown, Coronado among other places. Along nearby Bonita Road there's pretty much all the services you'll need. Many taco shops, a bakery, liquor store, grocery store, shopping mall, etc. For our last trip we stayed 2 weeks and only drove once, to go to SeaWorld. Why 3 stars then? Because the level of crime was really annoying. We've had multiple incidents of people slowly driving through, casing the sites in the middle of the night (3-4 AM). One of the restroom buildings was seriously vandalized midway through our stay. The quieter corners of the campground like the exit road, and the rental building overlooking the reservoir also have randos hanging out late at night. Fortunately we weren't directly affected but had to make sure all our stuff was always locked up tight. I spoke to the camp host about all the above and he said those are all common problems there. I wish they took them more seriously.

Home away from home, don't have to drive far for the stores, park rangers are professional and kind minded. Great trails and the view of the lake and mountains ⛰

Despite it's mid city location this is a great little park, lots of open spaces, hiking trails, horse trails (some camp spaces even have horse corrals), places for family get togethers, weddings, parties and parks to play in. Features play equipment for the kids, a splash zone, horseshoe pits, hot showers, 2 dump stations, decent wi-fi, a walk around fitness trail, even have movies in the park during the summer months. South loop has only electric and water hookups while the north loop has full hookups and cement pads for your RV, wood fires are allowed and all spaces have fire rings and tables. All in all it's a nice place to gather and camp, there is an adjacent freeway(albeit a toll road so not a ton of traffic on it) that you can hear throughout the whole park and it is directly under the approach glide path for Lindberg Field but the jets aren't real loud. Stores and restaurants are a couple miles away and there is a reservoir nearby to explore. Worth a trip here over and over again.

Gorgeous, well kept park! The RV parking slots are quite secluded and private even though they're so close together. Theybaccept all breeds of dogs so long as all animals are kept on leashes, but there is a $1/pet per day fee. The RV fee is very fair at $34/night with full hookups. There's a play area for the kids, amphitheater, corrals for livestock and GORGEOUS views! I highly recommend and if we ever come back down, this is going to be where we stay.

Nice secluded RV park on the top of a hill that is very clean with very easy pull through spots as well as regular spots. There is a freeway down below but we didn't really hear it too much. Right next to the lake or reservoir and very close to a fun jump bike park and pump track. Tons of restaurants within a couple miles. A pool and hot tub would be a nice addition.

Sweetwater Summit Recreational Park has a lot to offer both day use visitors and over night campers, by reservation. The faculty there was helpful, friendly, and professional. The views of the surrounding southern San Diego County area are wonderful. I played horse shoes in a nice size lawn area and noticed other families having while cooling off in the day use area.

Wonderful camping experience just enough outside of the city to feel like you are really getting into nature but close enough to the city that you can still enjoy all the fun things to do as well. They have all sorts of hook ups, we had a tent and enjoyed having the ground nice and leveled plus the ability to have a camp fire to cook on. Grounds and restrooms were kept very clean and the splash pad/park was fantastic for the kids. We stayed on lot 126 which had a beautiful view but also had a REALLY bad ant problem. Not sure if there was a nest or what but our tent was overrun with them the first night we were there. Overall, would definitely stay there again.

Great area tucked away in the hills. Some good trails leading out from the park/campgrounds can take you through some very nice terrain. The playground, splash park, and picnic areas look great for families. Living close enough to take a short drive probably means that the campground will be skipped, but it also looks to be worth while for anyone from out of the area.

Stayed in spot 123 which is on a far side of the campground in the paved spots with full hookups. Wasn’t quite quiet on the weekend but during the weekdays it was peaceful as long as you don’t mind air traffic. There is a little bit of trails to use but you must pay extra to use the sweetwater reservoir and it’s not dog friendly since no dogs are allowed on those trails. I gave it four stars because the trash was overflowing since the weekend but wasn’t emptied until sometime Tuesday. We would stay here again.

A great campground that is well maintained and offers fantastic views of Chula Vista and nearby Bonita. Both partial and full-hook up sites are offered at a reasonable price of $29 and $33 per night. Premium sites are available for an additional fee and come with a larger site and RV pad. All sites are equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. A good number of partial hook up sites are shaded. In general, the grounds are relaxingly quiet with the exception of San Diego air traffic passing high overhead and the soft vehicle noise from the 125 freeway. Tip: The campground is pretty steadfast on their 2pm check in time, so plan your arrival time carefully to avoid an early arrival even if it falls under an hour. Overall, this is a great place to camp.

Family style campground with fairly large sites, suitable for both tent and RV camping. Full hookups available. Mostly quiet, Sweetwater Reservoir fishing although we caught nothing. Lots of hiking trails. Reasonable rates. There are 2 sections, the original one and a newer one with updated, more private shower units. Must buy tokens at the ranger station for showers, 50 cents worth = 2 minutes, lots of hot water. Playground for the kids with a water feature in the summer. You can bring your horses, there are special sites with horse stalls. Older sites are dirt but fairly level, newer section has paved sites. Older section has trees for shade and many pull through sites, which make parking your RV much simpler. Well maintained, lots of wildlife, but beware that this is rattlesnake territory. Fire rings on each site and nice picnic tables.

Great Value. Nice and quiet. Camp's too close to each other. Beautiful weather was in the 70's. A few of us campers were invaded by little ants. Not a few but the whole village forging for food. Taking bug spray next time!!! Would go again!

Camped here for two weeks and had a wonderful time exploring San Diego and the surrounding area. Kudos to the park staff for keeping such a nice park. Very neat, clean and obviously well maintained. Sites are very well laid out. North loop has super nice, level concrete pads for RVs and the terraced layout ensures that practically every site has a view of something other than just their neighbors rigs. Not gonna lie- as others have noted, it is directly below a major approach to the SD Airport, but for us the convenient location and excellent facilities were well worth the compromise of some aircraft noise. Again, thanks to the staff for the excellent maintenance!

Great location and friendly staff; however we have left a day earlier due to our van getting infested with ants. Not great at all, and there are thousands of them, in cupboards in your food & in everywhere, something needs to be done in the park.

Couldn't cancel my reservation fast enough because of the weekend and these people kept my 400 dollars. It's theft. Thieves. Don't trust this place. So freakin frustrating. I am retired and don't make enough to throw away that kind of money.

Beautiful camp ground overlooking the city of Bonita. And in San Diego Airport’s flight path it was awesome watching the planes. We also saw some of the air show at Miramar from out site. Our site (#127) was very level. They rake the dirt at the sites it was very clean. Our spot had a fire pit and a picnic table. Only problem we had with our site was the last person used powdered comet/Ajax as bug deterrent. What a mess! We tried to sweep it up no luck with that. We ended up hosing rear of site down so we didn’t track it into our rv’s back door. We also didn’t want our dog getting into it! In todays times of bug sprays I just don’t know why trashing the place with powder is still allowed. This camp ground has clean bathrooms, trails to explore, a day use area with gazebos, picnic tables, a splash pad to play at. Great place!

We had a great little hike and saw beautiful views of the reservoir and the highway, too. My husband took the photos so I only have one to share. It's the bike park near the entrance on San Miguel Road, at dusk.

  • 5/5 Fran G. 2 years ago on Google
A great close get away. They are drive through spaces and they are totally level so you don't have to do much to have your rig level. Great place. I would like to see more amenities such as fixing up the horse shoe pits and putting benches a around, pickleball court and possibly a swimming pool. It's very clean and somewhat private spaces. Loved our stay.

We stay here often while we are traveling. San Diego County Parks are always clean and well cared for. My only complaint would be their 60-day limit within a calendar year. I get the 14-consecutative day limit. I even get the 60 day limit in one year. However we travel to California in the fall and leave in the spring. We did not keep track of how many days we stayed last spring and when we hit our 60 limit this fall (same calendar year) the online reservation system did not catch it when the reservation was made. Seems odd that in this day and age an online system is not capable of alerting you of reaching your limit. We made reservations for two county parks this fall that put us 15 days over the limit and were not notified until park rangers knocked at our door AFTER we had already set up camp. Our money was refunded but we are still scrambling to find places to stay until we can get into our long-term reservations.

Location and scenery were great. Was clean and the price is lower then most other parks. Bad thing is the park rangers are in everyons buisness always asking questions another con is you have to show current license and reg to get on grounds If you dont have one you wont be driving into there campsite. Or if your tags are expired no go. So be prepared.or get turned around. Im not just talking about those things are.neefed to rent their space that also includes any and all visitors that just wanna say hi or drop something off. That place is absalutely anel about that Rule!!

Very large park with great vistas. Access to many RV camp spots requires careful driving, as there are some steep inclines and curbs. The park is under the flyway for the San Diego Airport, so jets fly over every couple of minutes, and helicopters fill in the spaces continuously! Very noisy!
