My favorite spot in Balboa park, next to the artists studios. Sit and relax or walk around the koi pond. I saw an artist painting on the side of the pond and there was a man playing guitar and singing. The vibes here are so inviting. Everyone was so nice that we spoke to. If I lived in the area, you'd most likely find me here daily.

2am on a souped up scooter ride with my girl to blow off steam from being held captive by a pandemic all day is made [life] even more for perfect by a stop on the footbridge in front of the botanical building under a full moon. If you let your imagination run away wirh you for a moment you might even think you're not in 2020. Beautiful and timeless. Hate people like ne? Go at night. Thank me later.

We have visited the Botanical Building at Balboa Park many, many times, bringing friends and family who are visiting. It's the iconic building in the back of most photos taken at Balboa Park, set back behind the Koi Pond. It's now being renovated, and they tell us it will reopen during the summer of 2023. Why they couldn't have conducted these renovations during the two years of Covid quarantine is beyond me. (eyeroll) Now you will just have to enjoy these gorgeous photos taken inside the arboretum and whet your appetite for its reopening next year.

A great place to see, it's in the center of the Balboa Park. Amazing flowers and plants inside, in front of the building there is a nice pond, with some nice fish. It's free, one more reason to worth the visit, we really enjoyed. Very well done San Diego!

I felt that it was enchanting. The building itself is amazing. Adding all of the plants was memorizing. I hoped to see more flowers saw one flower. Loved the entry arcs. There was also a man outside playing the guitar very beautiful music which added that obviance. Plus best part is that it was free free and free. If your in the area definite must. Let's you escape just a little.

A very comfortable place even on a nice sunny warm day. A nice breeze flows throughout the airy slatted building with various plants and colorful flowers. Admission is free, and I was able to take a few pictures.

Was able to visit before they closed down for 18 months. I had to ask a visitor guide and they mentioned that Wednesday December 29th was the last day it would be open before it shut down for 18 months for renovation of the building. It was by far the most wonderful and exhilarating experience I've had. My future boyfriend must propose to me here lol. Can't wait to visit in a year to experience it all over again

I love this amazing free garden inside the busy park, it is peaceful with all of the trees and flowers that you can enjoy inside, and the amazing pond outside is something out of this world.

Well not so much the botanical building as outside the building. The place was closed on Sunday the 30th of May 2021. But lots of people about, musicians and such sun managed to burn through the fog making for a nice warm day.

As a plant daddy, I was so happy to stroll around this botanical garden, spotting plants that I know and house. It was the beginning of spring so many flowers were blooming. There were tall trees and ferns, orchids of many varieties. The dome is a cool structure, like a cage keeping the plants hostage; yet these plants are so happy and thriving.

A place to sit for a few in the shade, surrounded by beautiful greenery! And, it's free! There are some labels and descriptive plaques on the plants but I think many are missing. If you're looking for a great photo spot, you'll find a perfect one here.

(Translated by Google) Personally, I was a bit disappointed, but the beautiful harmony between the Botanical Building and the pond in front of it. A light walk would be good if it wasn't crowded. Lovely Balboa Park

(Translated by Google) This large pavilion from the "Botanical Garden" is right next to Balboa Park. The inside is not particularly huge, but it is free and therefore well worth a short walk. To go through it once you need between 10-20 minutes, depending on how much time you allow yourself. You can also sit down there and listen to the small fountain.

I have not been to a lot of botanical gardens. If you are looking for something to do with family I would recommend that you add this to your list of must see places.

Although we werenโ€™t able to go inside this magnificent place, this was easily one of the beautiful buildings in Balboa Park. From the architecture to the pond and the plants surrounding all of it. It was so cute. Perfect for pictures & photoshoots.

We had a very nice walk around conservatory. Different from many others, this botanical garden is covered with wood plaques that allow the wind to breeze inside. Overall is a place that is worth a visit if you are around. Very lively on Sunday mornings.

I love botanical gardens, and this one is no exception! The space here is relatively small, but it's packed with plants and there is so much to see! Beautiful building, too! If my group hadn't been waiting for us outside, I probably could have stayed here for at least two hours!

  • 5/5 Domina C. 3 years ago on Google
I go to this place just to look at all the flowers

  • 5/5 Terie K. 4 years ago on Google
Beautiful, one of the best places to go in San Diego without spending a dime! Plenty to see, and hear. Music by local artist. Friday is food truck day. Everything from Good old American favorites to sushi and favorites from South America.

  • 4/5 Russ L. 5 years ago on Google
This is a must visit. It is small and not many blooms and that is why only given 4 stars but it is more like 4 1/2. One should visit at other times of the year to get a well rounded experience as plants would be blooming. But since it is small it can be done on several visits. Nice and relaxing. Many hidden treasures if you look.

I love visiting the Botanical Garden! There are so many beautiful flowers in so many colors. Plus, it is cool and typically a nice, quite place to read or enjoy a cup of coffee.

As I said on my Balboa's Park review, this place is absolutely stunning. There's a variation of many plants wivh are rather curious or quite beautiful, perfect to take some good photos!

What a wonderful break from the park and all of the wonderful museums. This โ€œoasisโ€ from all that Balboa Park has to offer is a true work of art. The variety of plants and flowers is amazing and the way they are integrated.

So the garden could use some uplift now. Could have been a fascinating place 10 yrs ago. Monument buildings around, Church, etc are great. But the garden? Not aging very well..

A must visit at Balboa Park! Follow the duck pond to the entrance. Perfect lawn for a picnic or potluck. Large trees shade one lawn across the path with a full view of the wooden botanical building. Some days you'll have live musicians performing. *As if Oct 2020, the garden inside is still closed to visitors. P.S. Look for ๐Ÿฆ‹ butterfly chrysalis in the two trees flanking the doors to enter. Hundreds of monarchs use these trees as a condo each year!

This little park gives you a little bit of both - the old and the new. The pretty Victorian houses and the gorgeous view of CA Financial District. It's also a good people watching spot. Botanical Building is included in every guide book, so it can be really crowded with tourists.

    Amazing place!

  • 5/5 Spence M. 3 years ago on Google
Fabulous as always. The unique blend of plants is most interesting, and, with the lattice-style construction of the over-arching pavilion, it is cooler than the outside because of a continuous breeze. Utterly pleasant!!

  • 5/5 simon w. 3 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 Amber A. 3 years ago on Google
The building is closed due to COVID but the grounds outside are beautiful! A peaceful place to go.

There were so many orchids and flowering plants aside from the supersized ferns and others plants I can't identify ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿคฃ. But I love the inside. The building itself is so pretty (for me). The lotus pond on the outside is gorgeous!
