Loved the Pesto noodles- so refreshing. The mexican bowl and calamari were really good too. Were disappointed with the nachos, they were little dry. Desserts were okay. The ambience was really nice. All in all, loved the experience. And throughly enjoyed the creativity of the menu. Such cool names of the dishes!!

A great vegan restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. It would be a lot nicer if you actually got served. Especially, for the prices. Don’t expect to find any parking nearby, but that’s normal for little Italy. Plenty of seating, indoors and outdoors. No reservations needed.

I’m in love with every vegan meals I’ve had at Cafe Gratitude, super tasty, nourishing and wholesome! It feels convenient to order and pay directly with my cellphone by simply just scanning the QR code once we were seated on the table. Also most items on the menu are available in gluten-free options, which I appreciate. The staff are incredibly warm and polite. The atmosphere here is lively and pleasant, especially because it is in the heart of Little Italy. I enjoyed both hot & cold drinks, as well as the sweet treats too. My whole body-mind-spirit are fulfilled and happy. 🧡😊🙏🏼I will be back with my friends for more delightful, affirmatively named, plant-based dishes.

I don’t eat strictly vegan, but my fiancée does. Therefore, when she’s around, we eat at a lot of vegan spots. Cafe Gratitude is my new favorite vegan brunch spot, for sure! Good coffee, nice atmosphere, seated right away on a Sunday morning. I got the tofu scramble and she got the Crunchwrap (best item for sure). We split a cinnamon roll that was also excellent. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area and interested in some tasty vegan options (even if you aren’t vegan yourself)

This cafe is an amazing stop for some delicious vegan food. First, The design of the interior and exterior is definitely one of a kind! I loved the vibe of the whole cafe. The menu itself was pretty diverse itself which i appreciated because it can fit lots of peoples taste. Our server was helpful and offered a drink right away and answered our questions as well. We ordered the black bean burger, crunch wrap and margarita pizza. The burger tasted a little too much like beets for me but wasn’t bad, and i really liked the crunch wrap! The pizza was also delicious. Each dish was a little pricy though but I still liked it overall:)

We tried black bean burger, eggplant parmesan foccacia and pesto pasta salad. I think the food is great. Amazing Vegan menu, not all food items taste meat-y which is great. From the price point- i think its little expensive and that is only con for this place. Staff is really friendly, we were helped by Eric and he was great and helpful 😊👏🏻

Back Open At Last! Big news fellow San Diego foodies, Cafe Gratitude in Little Italy is finally back open for takeout and patio dining! Amazing vegan food as always, great curbside people watching and located just far enough off the main street to feel like a gem hidden from the tourist crowds. All things to be grateful for! Must tries... "I Am Pure" Salad - a delicious mass of hearty green things (kale, sea vegetables, avocado, and cucumber) topped with toasted almonds and a garlic wasabi tahini dressing. "I Am Enthusiastic" Fried Mushroom Sandwich (ordered as a wrap). A fantastic vegan twist on a buffalo chicken sandwich, rich and homey with buffalo sauce, vegan ranch, lettuce and tomatoes. "I Am Liberated" Bowl - A wonderful pile of healthy guilt free kelp noodles with a vegan pesto, heirloom tomatoes, and brazil nut based vegan Parmesan. There's nothing more satisfying than sitting down to a huge plate of pasta and with something this good and low carb, you just can't go wrong. "I Am Whole" Macrobiotic Bowl - a super colorful and flavorful medley of adzuki beans, yams, sea vegetables, fresh kimchee and quinoa. A wonderful way to eat the rainbow!

The food (BLESSED, HUMBLE) and LUMINOUS juice are amazing. It made me want to have this clean eating lifestyle. We got delivery last night and ordered takeout the next morning because it was so good. Unfortunately the brunch order was eh. MYSTERICAL was watery and flat, for $7.25 it was not worth it. The side order of tofu scramble was $5.50, look at small it was…. It for the palm of my hand.

I would move to San Diego for this restaurant. Seriously can not say enough good things about this place. From the look, to service, definitely the food, everything was amazing. We got three plates, two drinks, and a cinnamon roll and every bite was spectacular. In addition to being vegan I am also gluten free and there were so many options. I was so surprised about the cinnamon roll… I can never find them, but these were amazing!!

I really enjoy this place. It’s the first time I was at the one in San Diego. I have only been to the one in LA. Service was great. They started to use the Toast App which I personally enjoyed. Pay for stuff beforehand & as soon as it is paid for, it gets sent to the kitchen to be prepared. Whenever you’re finished, just get right up & leave. All the dishes were spectacular & our service did not hinder lack with the Toast App. I’ll be back soon.

Bright, airy restaurant serving vegan eats. The "chicken" and waffles was a fun version of the classic southern dish. The "chicken" was deep fried oyster mushrooms, which mimicked the flavor and texture of chicken remarkably well. The oat waffle was thick, chewy, and heavy. The Caesar salad with shiitake bacon, croutons, capers, and brazil nut parm was an excellent substitute for the real thing, although I would have preferred more of the shiitake bacon bits. The forbidden black rice bowl was a cacophony of competing flavors. While it was filled with all sorts of individually tasty items, the flavors didn't come together as a coherent dish. There was so much going on that eating it just felt laborious and tiresome. It's not the best vegan food I've ever had but given the dearth of vegan options in San Diego, it'll do.

This is a very nice vegan place. We went there for breakfast. They have indoor Nd outdoor seating. We were shown to our table by a very nice lady. They have contactless ordering. You can scan the menu and order online. Their menu is very unique, healthy and fresh. We absolutely loved the food, staff and ambience here. We tried I am Nourished, and some other dishes whose names we forgot 👻

My party had the Yo Soy Fuerte crunch wrap and I Humble veg curry bowl! Really delicious! We also tried the juices - I am Succulent and I am Genuine! Both were worth it! The Succulent juice was sweeter and is my favorite!!

Vegetarian restaurant in little Italy. I should've known. I can imagine a team of white woman from the orange county designing the menu: I am worthy, I am healthy, I am succulent. No, I'm not high, those are the names of the dishes. Not kidding. I could see myself having a Michael Douglas moment in Falling Down and punching someone in the face. Instead I ordered a sandwich and a overpriced juice, I ate and I left. Sometimes I hate California

Service was good. All ordering is done from your cellphone and it works well. The staff just delivers, with a smile. The food was very good. Super fresh and well prepared. The names of the food are cute, Gratitude-spiritual-theme style and it takes a moment to find what you want. The menu has a lot of choices. Portions are medium. Prices are a bit high but worth it. The ambiance is very good. The restaurant is on a corner and two walls are almost all window and so you get to people watch in a quiet manner. There is beautiful outdoor seating if you want. Everything is on the first floor and so this is a good restaurant if you are mobility challenged. Very clean and well organized.

We always enjoy eating here. New covid protocols with in-app ordering makes things a little different for some of us old folks but not anything this old dog can't learn. We always look forward to visiting Cafe Gratitude, especially when we can sit outside and enjoy the nice, San Diego weather.

  • 4/5 Deniz T. 2 years ago on Google
If you are in Little Italy area looking for tasty vegetarian food, I think this is a pretty good fit. Ordering and paying using an app is brilliant. You can just walk away after you are done with your meal. They use mushrooms creatively - in burritos, in noodles, deep fried etc. Dish names are little weird. "I am original" is a burrito, which is tasty don't get me wrong, but I think kelp noodles (Pad Thai) was more original. Quesadillas were huge. Side fries were stale, they were probably sitting in the kitchen. As for the cost... For a price of 2 burritos you are getting one plus a view of downtown sidewalk. If you drove here, you park at a meter, assuming you can find one. I can see it can be fun to have a brunch here with friends and family, or if you live nearby, but I am not sure if I want the trouble of driving here to eat. If this place were more accessible and prices were more reasonable it would be 5/5

We always love Cafe Gratitude and try to come here every time we visit San Diego. My wife enjoyed the I AM Terrific (kelp noodle pad Thai) and the I AM Pure (kale and sea vegetable salad). I had the I AM Happy (spicy Korean pulled mushroom sandwich). Sooooo GOOD!!!

The food is so so. Only Body and Soul roll stood out. We got spicy miso ramen, soba, fried mushroom and Hidden Agenda roll too. It's really not easy to make vegetarian food well so I don't blame them

This is one of my fave vegan spots in San Diego. I absolutely LOVE the chilaquiles with tofu scramble and avocado (add one). The acai bowl is really great too! My only note is that the dishes are too small for the food so it’s difficult to eat. All they need is bigger plates, otherwise love this place! Another downsides is you have to order everything on an app before you get your food, so you sont get to experience the great service they had before.

  • 5/5 pelumi o. 2 years ago on Google
First time visiting. Clean, honest and all vegan food items. I had the chocolate cookie, bean burger with fries and passion fruit kombucha. All very delicious & hearty. At first I ordered the flax seed pancakes and hot cocoa but didn’t suit my tastebuds so I spoke the manager who kindly took another order for me. I will definitely return for another bean burger. Be prepared to drive further away from the location if you want free parking. Otherwise you have to pay for parking.

Hands down one of the best plant-based allergen-conscious restaurants I've ever eaten at. The concept, the atmosphere, the device, the food, the creativity, the desserts, juices, smoothies and hot drinks all get an A+

  • 3/5 Monica A. 2 years ago on Google
The smoothies! It was hard to choose just one. Absolutely my favorite smoothies and almost dessert like. The highlight was the gluten free cinnamon roll. It took over 40 minutes to get the rolls after ordering. It wasn't until I asked about it that prompted them to heat the rolls and then later serve. We didn't have service other than being provided water and a transparent menu, which was super informative and appreciated.

It was Saturday morning of my quick one day work trip to San Diego and I wanted to eat something healthy. I asked the ladies at the hotel front desk and one of them recommended Cafe Gratitude. An all Vegan Cafe with Dine In near Little Italy's Saturday farmers market sounded like the perfect place for breakfast. I arrived at the location a little before 9am. There were a few people in line but the restaurant had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating once they opened. The service girl was very friendly, and she gave me an entire booth by the window all to myself. It was a great location to sit, enjoy the sun and people watch. The place was very modern and chic. It had a great vibe and was very clean. All the servers wore masks and were very attentive. Ordering and payment is done on your smart phone with a QR reader. I really enjoyed this but thought this is definitely not for those who are technically disinclined. I pursued the menu of vegan wraps, bowls, smoothies etc. I decided to go with a Nourish breakfast wrap with a matcha tea sans milk. I easily added it to my cart, made some additional selections and paid. In a short while one of the servers stopped by with my tea. Soon after my breakfast wrapped arrived. Something I enjoyed and thought was unique is the server has a question of the day. The question that day was "what inspires your creativity?" It was a thought provoking question and I spent the rest of the meal thinking about that and how much I was enjoying this delicious breakfast meal in beautiful San Diego. Anyway, I would highly recommend Cafe Gratitude if you are looking for a laid back dose of healthy food and drinks in beautiful San Diego.

This restaurant's decorations are light, airy, and refreshing. Perfect way to start the day. I visited 4 times-each time was a pleasant experience and each order came with more than enough food. Two things to keep my vote at 4, not 5 stars. The buckwheat pancakes were really dry and the menus online don't correspond to what's in-store. So, I arrived several times intending to eat something that wasn't there. I hate that feeling! Chocolate cake-delicious. Left me wanting more. Pancakes-they ran out of bananas and strawberries and the texture was rough. The portion is better for 2 hungry people. Tofu scramble- wonderful! It came with potatos, bread, and fresh preserves. Tumeric Latte- well made. Burrito for lunch- not good. There were so many other options though...I'd be willing to try them all!

I loved the food here. Vegan usually say tasteless but that’s not true here. U can order online being in the cafe, great staff & the food is amazing. Pancakes were so yum too. Must try

This is a very refreshing take on a vegan brunch place. The ambiance is very satisfying and the food here tastes delicious! We tried the buckwheat pancakes and the Mexican platter and both were excellent. The portion sizes are very filling and it is worth the money!

Always love cafe gratitude. The food here is like no other. Really excellent place to get vegan food, smoothies, hooch etc. Some outdoor seating which was nice. The only thing was the service moved at an absolute snail’s pace.

It's because of places like this one that I wish we could give more stars ...During a recent trip to SD, I had the privilege to do both take out and then also dine in at this lovely restaurant. A true vegan, I am not, but two friends are and one being local said it was one of the best she's ever eaten at and the other friend is a wandering traveler like myself and he too had nothing but positive rave reviews about the food as well. Ordering online was a breeze and when picked up everything was packaged beautifully and still piping hot. Dine in, both indoor and outdoor seating is offered, only one down side of eating outdoors are the flies that bug you once your food arrives but obviously not the restaurants fault, they generously offered us an inside table and we continued on our feast! Onto the food! I AM EXQUISITE - Coconut Calamari — What kind of voodoo is this?! I had to double check the mission statement after trying this.. The flaky and lightly crispy beer-batter crust wrapped each mesmerizing bite. I dare say I may like this better than REAL calamari! I AM ECLECTIC - Buffalo Cauliflower - The batter on each morsel was really reminiscent of what you would expect on a usual piece of popcorn chicken that it made you forget it's a fried veggie. The buffalo sauce had an enjoyable salty vinegary spicy kick . I AM GIVING - Hawaiian Pizza- A controversial topic across the culinary world. I am PRO-Hawaiian! I have tried many vegan pizzas looking to replace that flavor of a city slice from local spots in NYC and this one def didn't disappoint! On this particular one, I've had smokey tempeh in the past but the way they prepared this one made the texture taste of a soft piece of ham. Divine. I AM ENTHUSIASTIC - Chicken Fried Mushroom Sandwich. - A fried chicken sandwich is as much of a treat for me growing up as any piece of candy. I knew mushrooms were versatile and have had many crimini mushroom burgers that embodied the flavor of beef so well. I never thought they could also become chicken! I AM MAGICAL- Black bean burger - my dining partner said this was a bit underwhelming when she got it the last time she was here and upon hearing that our server told us that it was way better in a wrap than in a regular bun so we did just that! The patty still has some chunky black beans in it so I liked the texture difference it created in every bite. Mushroom Carnitas - These are a side you can add to any dish and this is so freakin delicious that you must get then with just about everything. I AM LIBERATED - One would think because it's noodles made of kelp it would taste kind of like the ocean or fishy even, but NOPE! The raw basil pesto with the briny olives, sweet cherry tomatoes and the fermented nut cheeses gave this dish a wonderful burst of flavors and mouth feel. I AM LOVING - Forbidden black rice bowl - This black rice bowl was exactly what my black soul needed today. Not only did everything taste great combined into one bite, but every individual component of this dish could definitely stand alone as their own. Of course we had to dessert as well! The strawberry mousse pie was refreshingly light and the warm chocolate chip cookie skillet with pistachio ice cream was just divine. Being a bit cynical and very sarcastic NYer, I had mixed feelings about the titles of each dish, positive affirmations that you had to say out loud to order the dishes you wanted - but truth be told, it does bring a spot of positive bright energy to your meal. Our server said that there was a ? of the day and asked if we would answer, so we obliged and the question was, "what makes you grateful today?"... We each said ours and she shared hers. She said by day she was a NICU nurse and that she was grateful to be able to help these tiny humans in her charge... Well, as a mama of three now healthy sausages who were all previous NICU babies at birth, I thank you deeply. OH AND CAN YOU PLEASE OPEN IN NYC?! Pretty please!!!

Reasonable vegetarian and vegan selections. Ordered items had over powering flavor not suitable to its name or reputation. Items ordered were bland and was disappointing. Service was forgettable and disappointing. Our service concierge just took off while enquiring about dishes and it was awkward. We had come all the way due to its reputation but were squarely disappointed.

  • 5/5 Michele G. 4 years ago on Google
This place has wonderful options and they are all pretty well priced! All of the entrees were roughly the same price. Everything we got had amazing flavor combinations and was well sized for the price. We got 2 entrees and an appetizer and it was more than enough for us! So good. Will definitely be back to try more

Had to check out this restaurant on my recent stay in San Diego. Although I really wanted to enjoy the outside patio dining, parking was really hard to come by when I attempted, so I opted to have my meal delivered. Did not disappoint. Very yummy! What was equally gratifying were the affirming words on the bag, and the names for my meal, such as I am Nourished and I am Courageous. Little things!

Yogurt parfait were sour/old!! I stop by and grab food from this place all the time and it’s usually really good. BUT Obviously they’re not paying attention to the expiration dates when making their yogurt parfaits! I bought two of them in the first one I took to the face fast because I was starving The second one I tasted it and it was sour way more than the first one! I was wondering why I was feeling sick after the first one and attributed it to other things but now I know what it was from!!!! To me this is unacceptable and I am extremely upset with yes place and their lazy yogurt parfait makers!

Great Old School Italian food in downtown city. This place is really great for a fancy dine-in. My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here. We both love the setup of this place. Great atmosphere, a very home-y feeling. My husband loves their steak and eggs! The farm style inspired gives you a feeling of that slow life out of the city, so you get to really sit and embrace the time you're there and really enjoy the food. The menu is always changing up, so as much as I miss the meal I ordered the last time, there's new options to try and is just as yummy!

Dined here on Valentine's Day. We were seated in the main dining room, which was lit with aesthetically pleasing decor. We both love the place because it was so romantic. The ambiance was so calming and relaxing. The food really tasted good that matches up the wine that we had. This place is great for a romantic dine out.
