A vegan institution in San Diego, and one of the only vegan drive-thrus I’ve ever seen. They have a large outdoor seating area attached to the restaurant too. I always liked the “chicken” sandwiches and black-bean patty burgers. They make nice desserts too, including the milkshakes and cookies. My only real issue with this place is that it’s always been very expensive. It’s nice every once in a while, but is pretty pricey to be a staple restaurant in my rotation.

I usually only save my energy for good reviews but this is the 3rd time in a row I'm bummed about my order and I feel now I’m wasting my whole lunch break to come here. I do appreciate the good vibes here and the vegan food option in the area. I realize I came at rush hour, but I’m willing to wait longer if it means better quality. My chicken tenders were hard and over cooked and the fries were more like pieces of fries. :-(

Yummy vegan fast food, and they have soft serve ice cream! We tried two of their “chicken” burger combos and they were great. Fair price and left very full. Also got their swirl soft serve which was very big and delicious! Will for sure go back next visit to the city.

Always Awesome Vegan Comfort Food! Even health conscious vegans can't resist a delicious sandwich and a side of fries now and then. Evolution is one of our favorite spots for fast-food style vegan food done right. It satisfies the fast-food fix but with a healthier spin that makes the pleasure feel not quite so guilty. Picks to try... The Chimichurri sandwich (available with either vegan steak or vegan chicken) is flavor packed and hearty with plenty of well seasoned "meat" balanced nicely by fresh tomato and mixed greens. The Fuego burger is a satisfying combination of just the right amount of spice and creamy cheese sauce. The tempeh patty is amazing with this and ordering it as a lettuce wrap helps cool the heat. The animal fries are exactly what you want them to be. Just like the fries you get at the classic fast food places, but with a vegan twist. Caramelized onions, special sauce, crispy fries, what's not to love?

The food is yummy. One of my favorites is chicken tenders with barbeque sauce, but today will be the last time im going to buy in evolution because I found a strand of hair on my chocolate icecream. This is not the first time it happened. I am kind of sick right now, and I wanted to have some comfort food. So my spouse went there to buy me the food. I think Evolution has to make sure of sanitation given that we are facing a pandemic worldwide. Wear hair nets is a simple way to provide service of giving people not only healthy meals but sanitary as well. Please note this.

Fast and quick service. They have a cozy area in the back for eating in. Had the California burrito here and it was 🤌. This place is definitely worth a couple different meals to get the full experience.

I have been coming here for years. Service, as always was amazing. But product wise, seems like each time, the food quality has changed. Not sure if it is due to covid inflation (so product cost had to be cut?) or what but this use to be one of my go to veg fast food places. :( Evo burger- bun kinda tough/stale, burger patty- thin, the thickness of it was about half that of a typical fast food straw and the same of that of their little blue straws there. These patties use to be large (at least 2 to 2.5 times the current ones). So much so it was hard to eat a whole one in a single sitting. $10.75 Fries- definitely not hot, not even warm, but yet not cold. They were likely made earlier that day and sat out for at least an hour after that. They were hard and lacked flavor. Again, these also use to be a favorite. :( Tea- a good unsweetened tea Combo + $5 Totaled in at $16.97 (w/ tax), a bit pricey considering the quality. :(

My wife makes me take her here when she wants something special. It's actually a bit of a drive for me. I am very not a vegan, but I dig the house made ketchup. The oatmilk shake is good. The black bean burger is good. They are good, most of the time. I do have to say, sometimes we are utterly disappointed, especially the distance I drive for it. They just have off days. The ketchup isn't quite right. The burgers are a bit too wet etc. I definitely recommend. Even if you aren't a vegan.

Customer service is extremely lacking. It was like pulling teeth getting a water and they did not give me cutlery with the order. Both cashiers acted like I was inconveniencing them by asking for water and a fork. The food however is quite good.

I tried the vegan chicken sandwich with two kinds of sauces in it. I felt some more sauce. could have made it better. Additionally I tried the loaded fries (cheddar bacon) and it was very good. And I definitely recommend their smoothies. It was yummy! This is a place you want to go if you’re trying to eat healthy and want to make a quick drive through stop.

This is some of the best Vegan food I've eaten. Everything tasted like it was made with real dairy products but they're not. The food is amazing. Prices are lower than most Vegan restaurants. Service is also very good. Non Vegans will love this place.

The food is so good I came back a second day in a row. And I might treat myself once a week going forward! I do wish they had a a larger size shake. The vanilla is omg sooo good! So are the evo fries. My fav!!! And the drive thru is a great addition.

I’m not generally into junk food, but Evolution’s black bean patty with mushrooms and Swiss on a gluten-free bun hit the spot! Fast, no-nonsense service. I ate on the quiet, shaded, dog-friendly back patio. I’ve only got three weeks total in San Diego, so am trying to try everything on my list before going back for seconds, but I have been back already once. 1,000% more delicious than it looks in the photo, which absolutely doesn't do it justice. Parking lot and drive-thru option.

I’ve eaten here 3 times... 1. The first time I had a black bean burger. It was dry as all get out, but black bean burgers can be that way, so... 2. I went back for a second time for a snack. Just a simple salad, but oh so good... Dijon or maybe honey mustard dressing was die for, but we experienced an unusually long wait for 2 plain salads, after we ordered them. 3. On the third visit, I got the Evo Burger (tempeh patty), regular fries (because they no longer have sweet potato, even though their online menu says so), a soda, and a salad. Tempeh burger felt very salty and unhealthy. Regular fries and ketchup were okay. The salad dressing was not as tasty as the first time. Much more spicy than before, with a pronounced Grey Pouponesque flavor. Don’t think I’ll be returning unfortunately.

Wow! Goji berry brownies are amazingly delicious. Perfectly sweeten with a soft gooey texture and gluten free. Hope to see many more locations open up Ps. The guy that wrote the poor review regarding the speed of service and french fries should probably just stick to McDonald's ✌

Always a good experience. I've never tried anything I didn't like and the only thing I don't like is the food comes out lightly warm which isn't a huge deal for what you get. I'll take Evolution over Donna Jean anyday plus for the price you're getting a lot more.

Very tasty California burritos, and fish sandwiches. Also try their cheese fries. Prices are very reasonable. Ordering online is very easy, our order was ready under 15 minutes. Parking is little tight. They also have drive through. Would come back again. Edit: came back for Chimichurri sandwich, and BBQ chicken sandwich. For the chicken we opted for chipotle sauce. I ate half of each and I loved both. They were little sour for my wife, but she added some mayo and it was all good.

Probably the best burger I’ve ever had. This place was so flavorful, delicious, and filling. I highly recommend the black bean burger patty! I wish I could go back because everything was so tasty and flavorful. My family enjoyed everything we ordered but the black bean burger patty was the standout for sure. This is the kind of vegan restaurant I wish we had more of!!😋

It's good to be back in California where I'm originally from. This place encapsulates what I remember about San Diego and Southern California vegan. It is a cool drive up window experience or go in and order and they'll bring it to you in the indoor outdoor seating area. Open without a roof and plenty of space. The food was really good and qualifies for vegan fast food. I had the California Burrito and it was really tasty the wings were just as good as I remembered. If you're in the area and you want to have a California vegan experience this is definitely a place to check out.

The evolution of fast food. This place makes me happy. Even before I was vegan I enjoyed eating here. Their food is tasty, shakes are yummy and the vibe is so fun. There is an outdoor eating area in the back and a drive through for convenience if you have to take your food to go. Highly recommend! My favorite is the buffalo fries!

My husband and i have been coming to Evolution for years! We love the vegan selection! Their "burgers" are amazing, the Pesto one is one of my favorites with fries! Always fresh, fast and delicious!

Food was great but the Latina female at the register lied and said there was something on my burger when I I questioned it and come to realize it wasn’t when I got home. Also she gave me the wrong can of soda. as you can see I didn’t like their service this visit and will likely wait awhile before coming back again but hope they can do better and pick up their slack in the future

The best chicken sliders I've ever had! I came in with 5 friends and we ordered the Mild, Hot, X-Hot and reaper. No complaints on the chicken! Everything was great! We did find it disappointing that we had ordered 2 mac and cheese but never received it. We were all into eating that we realized once we were finished with our sliders that we never received our mac and cheese! I let the guy at the register know and he offered to give it to us TO-GO but the guys wanted to eat it with the sliders so we declined. They weren't really even busy but for the chicken it's worth going back!

So... I am not vegan but my daughter is. I eat low carb and a meat eater. However, this place was amazing. I had the raw tacos and they were so delicious. Huge, filling, full of flavor and all around one of the best things I have ever eaten. Would definitely return if I am ever in the San Diego area again. Highly recommend!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this place. This was my first time trying it. I wanted something quick and was thankful there was a vegan fast food joint that sold soy free options. I will be back.

So the drive-through line was, as I’m sure is usual for this place, all the way down the road. We decided to park down the street, place an order and go for a short stroll. Once we received our food, we figured out why everyone else where there! Hands down the the best vegan guac burger I’ve ever had anywhere. And can I just say, the amount and variety of veggies on my side salad made me so happy! If you’re in San Diego, eat here! You definitely won’t regret the decision.

Why I love this place: 1) it has a drive thru 2) the staff are very friendly 3) the food is DELISH! Even non-vegans should try this place! 4) Has beautiful places to sit and eat in the back. 5*. Will definitely return whenever I'm in SD again.

Very Low-key, vegan fast-food place that definitely makes some incredible food. My black bean burger was the best I'd ever had - and that includes the aqua fava aioli and cashew "cheese" which were both excellent. The desserts they carry were also delicious. So many vegan places fall short with odd imitations and overly sweet concoctions - not Evolution. Carefully considered vegan food full of flavor that highlights what plant-based ingredients can do. The extremely laid-back dining-in vibes are nothing special but the food hits FAR above what this humble place projects. This food-loving omnivore will absolutely be going back for more.

Best Vegan fast food. I love that I can choose the type of patty I like, which for me is house-made tempeh. And their fries, when they are fresh, are unbeatable when compared to any other restaurant.

Sinful fast food!! Loved the burgers and a chocolate shake to die for! The prices were way better than a similar spot up in San Luis Obispo.

My mouth waters for this place. I can't even tell its not real meat. Anything with chimichurri or Buffalo is worth getting. Their chocolate shake is the best but the cookies n' cream could use a little tweaking. The line is usually pretty long but it's well worth the wait.

This place is good, I got the chicken sandwich, it was filling and full of flavor. The sauce was an insy bit too heavy for me, so I would probably nix that next time. I would have loved if they had a vegan chicken burrito on the menu! Maybe something to consider? The fries were delightful and had a yummy seasoning on them. The ketchup was definitely not Heinz, which is a good thing, and tasted like it might be home-made. I will be back!

Quite a conscious kitchen.. worth visiting and will be back!! 'EZ Ryder' chickpea and tempeh on HEMP bread.. added fries and iced tea for just $5 ;) The herbed fries and very vinegar-y ketchup are a MUST, one of a kind flavor! Same goes for the sammie.. sooo many layers.. An art-forward atmosphere too, with a wonderful crew putting it all together 💖✨️

Boyfriend found this spot for me , so we decided to try it and I’m so glad we did . I got the mushroom Swiss burger, and he got buffalo chicken they were both really good but my favorite was the mushroom Swiss I 100% recommend this one ,also their bomb ranch with the fries was amazing and their drinks ! I like it too much that I had this burger for three days straight ! I would definitely be back when I go visit San Diego again !.

wanted to find a vegan burger that wasn’t the impossible patty and i was really impressed with this spot. The bun was tasty and from a local bakery and the patty itself was flavorful in combination with the sauce. The interior isn’t special but there is outside patio seating located behind the building with shade and plants. The first worker was not nice and not helpful but when i came back to order another drink the second employee was kind and able to answer my questions about the food.

This place...like I love that it exists but the food quality is steeply declining while the price moves up. $65 for three "burgers" and two shakes is highway robbery. Additionally, the buns were so stale and crumbly that they were mostly inedible. See photo. Just...the food just isn't good. The date shakes were very good and the service is always good.

This is a very interesting place! I love that is so unique! The drive thru I'd always fast and food is always super good too! I love coming here for a quick bite to eat 😋 The staff are always super nice as well! Highly recommend this place if you are in the area! Thank you to everyone at this location. Normally I would be excited to describe what we received at a vegan restaurant. It is a very busy place with people waiting in line for the drive-through. Which means great food! My sandwich was covered all over with a cashew mustard everywhere. Taste was good, but messy to handle the sandwich. My husband ordered the chicken nuggets which breading on some of it missing. He order also soy burger end up getting a different sandwich,Tempe instead. Customer service stated they were out of the burger and they replace it with a Tempe instead. It would’ve been nice for my husband to decide whether he like that type of sandwich or return his money back to him. They just assumed he would like it. Fries taste like potato peeling and very greasy. There sign never stated basil on fries. Which is misleading.

I ALWAYS come here whenever i’m in San Diego and it never disappoints! I’m not Vegan but that doesn’t matter because the food tastes amazing and sometimes i forget it’s all vegan 😅

The food is generally good and the help is friendly. When I let them know that they forgot the Guac on my Burrito last visit drive-thru, their remedy was bring the food back next time. Umm, ya, I'm gonna drive back to get Guac. Anyway, Evo, next time, ask the customer if you can add Guac to their current order, or next. That's how the good places dot it.

The food is great! I want to try everything on their menu. Prices are extremely reasonable, the staff is friendly and do a wonderful job. My only complaint is that there isn't an Evolution in my neighborhood! Hope they consider expanding.

Delicious 😋 always kind service and such varied options for everything vegan. I tried the goji berry brownie it was rich and intense chocolate taste. One of my favorites is the Buffalo wrap add ranch.

Love the concept of this place -- an all-vegan fast food restaurant with drive through! My favorites so far have been the jumbo veggie sandwich and the pesto "chicken" sandwich. Also, the ketchup is possibly the best ketchup I've ever tasted. My non-vegan boyfriend enjoys eating here too!

Honestly one of my favorite spots . Only place that has milkshakes an they are amazing. I go every 2 days . My family loves it an the arent even vegan . Keep it up for real an all the staff are really friendly an sweet . Hope you all go an enjoy there food

The food and smoothie were so good!! There were 4 cars in the drive through and 2 people in front of me, but I only had to wait about 10 minutes for my burger, fries, and smoothie. Super fast service!! I can't wait to eat here again!
