My first Ethiopian food experience, for a birthday/anniversary date night , the summer sojo drink was refreshing, the starter was delicious, spicy and flavourful, main course with lentils, beans and vegetables was cooked very well and thoroughly enjoyable

I've never had Ethiopian food before so this was all new to me. The waiter was super patient with us and explained the different dishes and how you should eat them. He brought out a sampling of the side dishes for us to try. I absolutely loved the mushroom over spaghetti squash starter, the mushrooms were well seasoned. We also tried the cubed chicken dish (really tasty) and the beef which was not quite as good but ok. The lentils were also very good. I appreciate that the waiter brought us forks and side plates though I know that's not the norm. I just can't eat that much bread without being overly full. I'd definitely come back!

First Ethiopian food experience. We tried their most popular dish, which consisted of a cubed lamb shank with vegetables and lentils on the side along with Sambosas to start. We loved the sambosas and thought they were the best part of the meal. The lamb was a little chewy and dry and could have used more heat. The lentils had great flavor, and we really enjoyed those. Service was pretty slow, considering there was only a few tables occupied. There is a vegetarian section of the menu we might try more of those options if we go back.

This was my first time experiencing Abyssinian cuisine and the food was delicious. We ordered the sambusas, Shiro + Halmi and the flavours were amazing! And oh yes the salad! Top Notch!!👌🏻

Great opportunity to try Ethiopian food. Make sure to ask if you don't know what items in the menu are. I understand the tradition to eat with hands, but injera was not strong enough it was a bit doey not sour tasting at all. Beef was way too spicy. The sambusas and lentils were great. Great first experience.

2/8/22: a cozy Ethiopian (Abyssinian) bistro on Park Ave in University Heights. This was our first time eating this type of food and the waiter was outstanding in breaking down the menu. For starters we had the pan seared mushrooms. It comes with a flat, floppy bread that you tear up and used to scoop up the food with your fingers. For the entrée we had Shiro and Prawn. It is chickpea-based with zesty herbs white wine peppers Serano and other things mixed in to the sauce. Pretty much this was excellent. Again you use the flat bread to scoop up the food. Definitely recommend for an outside the box dining experience. By the way, one entrée with two or three sides is enough for two people

This place was amazing, the food was so fresh and delicious. Perfect amount of spice. What made this place my new favorite spot is that it's not just the food was amazing but the service was impressive. Our waiter Martha took the time to explain everything that we needed to know about this restaurant. She explained how to balance the flavors in the meal, she went beyond what was needed. And that honey wine is literally adult juice. I am going back again to this restaurant. Really really impressive in all facets. Thank you Martha if you're reading this.

My first time eating Ethiopian food, and the servers were super welcoming and attentive! I ordered the mushroom appetizer and Shiro + Hamli, both were delicious. Fun experience trying new cuisine and I love injera now!

Abel and his staff (shutout to Dan) are serving up smiles and genuine affection alongside mamas original spice blends! This is a magical place without a doubt. Wondering if you should try Muzita? DO IT

What a wonderful meal at Muzita!!! I was thinking to checking out this place for a long time and finally we got a reservation to try it out. It’s so popular, so I highly recommend you to make a reservation if you decide to dine in here. I ordered the Kantisha Kilwa, it’s a mushroom dish with tomato sauce! I totally loved it, with a free side of lentil, even better. My husband ordered the lamb Kilwa, it’s awesome too. And injera bread is just sooooooo delicious. I will come back soon.

LOVED THE FOOD! Oh my god, so delicious! Ordered three vegetarian dishes - Mama’s fool, Kantisha Kilwa and Shiro with sides - Timtimo and Alitcha Atakilto. All the dishes came in one large plate and the entire experience was so unique. The waiting is a bit long but totally worth it! Should definitely give it a try.

It was great! Staff was friendly. Food was great we had lamb and prawns. Yum! Ethiopian coffee was smooth and taste good either black or with sugar and cream. Bring someone you don't mind sharing with because its community platters.

Unfortunately the food and service were not as good as in the past. My husband's fish was burnt and covered up with the sauce to hide it. My potatoes were also burnt and so was the sauce that was used in the dish. It was my milestone birthday celebration and our friends and god-sons traveled up from Rosarito to join us. They had never had Ethiopian before. Unfortunately they probably won't ever again. I was embarrassed. We should have tried one of the other Ethiopian restaurants in the area. Our in-laws are from Eritrea & Ethiopia and have taken us to some amazing restaurants in the Bay area that would have been a better experience with better food and more authenticity of ambiance to introduce our friends to. Of course after you have had authentic Ethiopian food home cooked for you and you love it so much it is disappointing when you can't share that with others. They were out of tea and my friend really wanted to try the Ethiopian coffee I raved about but they were out of that too. Some positives are the mushroom appetizers everyone enjoyed and the Birsn Korosho is always delicious, love the crispy injera. Also the Sambusas were a favorite of our friends. We ordered way more food than we could all eat. The portions are very generous. The injera was great and plenty of it. I personally liked the Caulo and Alitcha Atakilti, no one else ate the caulo and our friend didn't like the alitcha. Also, I said the service was not AS good as in the past but she did try. They were kind of busy with larger parties and she was by herself. The kitchen messed up our appetizer order and she had it corrected right away. All-in-all it was Okay. We may or may not go back. I love Ethiopian food so much so if we were in the area again we may try the other two restaurants first and then decide which is our favorite.

Do yourself a favor and indulge in this authentic Abysinian dining experience in Sandiego. Very impressed by the creativity and presentation of the food, this is probably the richest and most diverse menu I have seen in Eritrean/ Ethiopian restaurants. Abel (the owner) and the rest of the stuff are Sandiego’s very local and yet knowledgeable enough to deliver genuine Abysinian dining experience.

One of my favorite restaurant in San Diego. Love the vegan items on the menu-- hope you guys add more though! Lentil and cabbage side dishes are the best things on the menu. Servers/owner are always very nice and friendly.

This is truly spectacular food, particularly for vegetarians and vegans. Exotic flavors and spices unique to Ethiopian cuisine, which has become one of my favorites. Bring a friend--they'll lay out your orders on a big tray over the amazing bread that you use in place of forks. Great for a date night!

We love this place. The food is always wonderful and the staff are excellent. They have vegan and gluten free options. Mama's Fresh Catch is one of my favorite dishes and my husband loves the lamb and chicken, but really, everything on the menu is great.

I went here for my birthday with a dashing Frenchman. I Can't believe that, for 33 years, I have somehow not tasted this exquisite cuisine. You can get adequate food in lots of places but the incredible tastes from this place will make you question the idea of ever going to another restaurant again. *Ask about the fermented bread that you will receive on your plate! It's the world's smallest grain and the taste is incredible. They will show you the grain. *Try the mushroom appetizer! These were some of the most delicious and well prepared mushrooms I have ever tasted. I make mushrooms at home, quite well if I may boast, but I could not do this at home without some specific coaching. *The vegetable dishes were out of this world. I like meat and all, but you can only do so much with it. These vegetables were absolutely to die for. Don't go get a pizza, forget about the Chinese buffet, definitely steer clear of the sports bar. Come here and get a cornucopia of wonderful flavors That absolutely fills the senses with something that speaks to the origins of delicious southern food with a huge nod to the curry world. Seriously, if you are on the fence don't think twice. Just go! #LauriannaCircle #BriannaB3d #Solana

Sembusa with potato filling is very good and the vegetarian curry with zucchini and mushrooms were also very good. I was hoping that they had a platter which includes all the curries in smaller quantities but they have only an entree that comes with a side, you will have to add additional sides.

Ambiance was nice and the food tasted okay. I had really high hopes that I would love the Ethiopian restaurant near my house but unfortunately I was mistaken. We ordered one okra appetizer and a lamb dish. The waiter brought us two appetizers and a chicken dish. We did not complain because we both hate to waste food but the flavors were very muted. Nothing like the Ethiopian restaurants I have visited in the past. The beers we ordered they no longer had in house so they just brought us a substitute without even checking. I definitely will not be returning. Such a bummer and now I am out $85.

Friendly staff, great selections, interesting story behind the food, and overall great experience! Came here for a shared celebration with my family and we were more than satisfied. Their portions were plentiful and the food was well seasoned. Definitely recommend. The only issue I had was parking was hard to find.

Really nice place, the owner came out and chatted with us multiple times. New way to have dinner for sure. The Injera was so outside of the box for my standard fare. The food is served platter style so everyone shares. We went here the night before a wedding and it was a nice way to get to know the families of the bride and groom. Would love to go again if i visit the West coast again.

We love coming here for Ethiopian food. The Zigni Siga (beef) and Dorho Alitcha Kilwa (chicken) were both delicious but our favorite was the more flavorful Siga. Each dish came with a side dish so we chose the red lentils and the stewed vegetables. All this came on top of injera with more rolled injera. So much food and all delicious! We were seated in a narrow walkway on the far side of the house. Not much of an ambience there, but in the end I was glad because we had a nice quiet dinner without fighting to hear each other over the noise of other diners. The tables on the outdoor patio were crammed very close to each other.

I consider this the premier Ethiopian restaurant in San Diego. Very casual atmosphere and familiarity with regulars makes it a really inviting place to go. We've been going for over a decade and their food does not disappoint. We ate here before traveling to Adis Ababa, and I have to say they were right up there with food we ate in Ethiopia! They don't always have it, but when they do, their Ethiopian-sourced coffee is pretty amazing.

It used to be our go-to place for Ethiopian food.. but not anymore... it is so so not worth it .. because the service there is terrible, horrible experience.. and it has been the same terrible experience in all our past visits. But this time is surely gonna be our last time dining over there.. so not worth it. The server was so rude, it seemed like she was in such a rush, and it was so awkward to keep asking her for things again and again. She literally banged the table with the dishes when she served it to us ,, and not once but twice. The food platter we ordered looked like just things thrown on a cheap plate with no sense of plating. Although, there were not many people, she kept us waiting for everything each time we asked for it. She would not even respond when called or waved at, so rude. Almost felt like an insult as she saw us every time when we waved but chose to ignore.. Ruined our night for sure as we drove like 40 minutes to eat there. Customers should be treated with due respect. We pay for the food as well as the experience when we dine in. Food there is expensive and the experience surely not worth paying this much. I definitely do not recommend it. Big time disappointment.

Love, love this place! I only wish it was closer to my home. I have been to many other Ethiopian restaurants in other cities and states, and this place is hands down The Best. Portions are perfect, the food is absolutely delicious and the service is always good. Can't wait to go back. 🙂

Great food. As a south Indian, I really enjoyed the flavours and the taste of the food served here. Shares a lot of similarities with Indian food culture, including eating with hand. Tried the shrimp, lamb and chicken platters. The portion size is very generous and often difficult to finish.

What a truly amazing dining experience. I can not recommend Muzita enough. We were made felt welcome and truly as guests. The dining experience and the menu was explained to us as we had never been there nor did we know a thing about Ethiopian cuisine. Soon, the owner of the restaurant came out to greet us. What a joy it was to speak with him and to know we were about to dine on recipes that came from his mother. He was so humble and personable. I felt like I was eating at his dinner table at home. The food itself did not disappoint! I wish I could tell you the names of the dishes we ordered, but I can't remember them. We had two dishes (more than enough for two people): one was a beef dish and the other was an absolutely amazing prawn dish. I can tell you that MUST order the mushrooms for an appetizer. The dinner itself is served "family style" in that it comes out on a huge platter and you eat using your hands with fermented bread as your utensil. I also had the best mojito I've ever had. Do yourself a favor: Step out of your comfort zone and visit Muzita. I will definitely be going back.

Great Ethiopian food and I’m impressed with heated outdoor seating during this season. Tsebhi Derho is my favourite. Mushroom appetiser is good but I feel it’s overrated. Beggie Kilwa is also good. Might be because of COVID, they’re understaffed. There was only one person to serve all the customers. She was friendly though. But we had to wait for 25-30 mins to get seated even after making a reservation. Apart from these circumstances, food is great.

A cozy restaurant serving extremely delicious food. Have plenty of vegetarian options, Inchiras are worth a try! The various options can be overwhelming if you're new to the cuisine, but the waiter went over all the details.Service is great, owner is very friendly and loves explaining their culture. Have both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is not the easiest but you can find one a few blocks away.

First time trying Ethiopian food and I was very surprised at how good it was. We had vegan food, vegetarian food, and normal food:) All 3 options were excellent. Nice selection of beer and wine and the French press coffee was very nice. It's a little on the pricey side if you go with a crowd, but the taste was definitely worth it. And a nice bonus was that they allowed dogs on the patio.

Ethiopian is my favorite cuisine. I’ve been lucky enough to eat it in many states and countries for comparison. I have to say I don’t get this restaurants hype. The location is nice and the servers did a decent job. The injera was actually pretty good, but everything else seemed wrong. I couldn’t taste any berbere and they didn’t have any of my favorite dishes to choose from. There’s no veggie combo, which is not the norm with Ethiopian restaurants. Even if they did have a combo everything kind of tasted like spaghetti sauce (we got the whole vegetarian menu). Nothing was spicy and there wasn’t that intrinsic, flavorful quality I have come to expect from Ethiopian food. There were no Ethiopian people either which is a warning for me. I did not find the food to be authentic to the cuisine I have had as it lacked the flavor and consistency profiles. If you’ve never had Ethiopian and are looking for a fun spot to try some different food I would definitely recommend here. If you’d like great Ethiopian food, this is not it.

Went here with my friend, two dear friends we were staying with in San Diego, and one of my cousins newly relocated to the area. The food tasted decent - it wasn't overpowering for a first-time eater of Ethiopian cuisine. Unfortunately, our shared plate looked nothing like any of the photos shared in these reviews - ours was an amalgamation of whatever we ordered, one item nearly indistinguishable from the next. My cousin didn't know my sister or my friends, so I can't blame her for not being interested in eating with her hands among us. The waitress responded aggressively to a polite request for a fork. Otherwise, service was generally friendly, and since the place was empty, things were pretty prompt.

Fantastic food that's meant to be shared and eaten with your hands. Beautiful quaint space. This is a wonderful restaurant that understands the experience component of going out. We love Muzita and even when parking is a bit tough, it's 100% worth it. Very friendly service and quaint, casual ambience. We usually start with the spicy red lentil spread with injera!😋 When we go with a bit of a larger group, we'll get sambusas as well. For our entire we often get the chicken platter - Doro Alitcha Kilwa. Plenty of food for 3 people IMO. Skip lunch beforehand!😂 Though the leftovers are really tasty too. There's a lentil soup they keep suggesting I try, and it sounds delish. It's just so hard not to get the dishes we already love.

Unfortunately underwhelming. Kik alicha wot (yellow lentils) so overdone that they were more like a puree. Atkilt wot (cabbage) was so underdone it was like eating a raw head of cabbage. All for $26, really disappointed.
