Standing room only unless you make a reservation a month out. That is unless you can go on a week day then it's 2 weeks out. (Subject to change) All that being said it's worth the hassle. Great drinks, amazing atmosphere. It's in the back of Craft & Commerce restaurant. The speakeasy thing is novel but can be annoying. 😄

Love this very cute tiki bar, with yummy drinks. We had the Coronado Luau and the Painkiller. Cute swizzle sticks too. The prices aren't too bad, about $13-15 per drink. Great date place. It isn't too loud, so you can talk and hear each other. The music is eclectic.

Amazing place. What a fun vibe! First of all before I say anything else - try and get a reservation for this place it'll make the experience smoother. This is located in another bar go to the place on google maps (accurately marked) the entrance is on the left side behind the hostess stand. There is someone that will check you in so don't worry it isn't "hard to find" like some speakeasies. The check in process was probably the not great experience. We didn't have a reservation but it was a Sunday and we came RIGHT at open (5pm). It took us WAY too long (20 mins) to get in there considering when we walked in the bar, it was half empty. That being said it is a minor inconvenience. All the drinks we got were GREAT. Definitely get the painkiller and get it on a higher strength, just great balance and not overly sweet. I mean honestly everything was fantastic the bartenders are super knowledgeable, trust them. The inside vibe was so fun. It is a tiki bar so super warm and inviting. Really really loved the spot. You can't go wrong coming here. Just have a reservation, if not, come early.

We loved our visit and can’t wait to come back! Every staff member was so friendly and helpful. The drinks were delicious! The decor and glasses and swizzles were exceptionally detailed and beautiful! My only complaint is that they were out of mugs to purchase. Next time!

Great ambiance and amazing selection of drinks. Must visit if you are in San Diego. It's hard to get in as there are limited seats but must give it a try. They don't serve food so keep that in mind.

My husband took me on a date night to the speakeasy, False Idol which is accessible inside of Craft and Commerce. This is a Polynesian tiki themed small bar that features great themed music, decorations and special effects. They have an extensive specialty drink menu. The drinks are really tasty and strong. Our server was Ellie and she was awesome. We were seated at a table for two beside the bar. We had made reservations for False Idol a couple of weeks before as it can be difficult to get a reservation. There is a drink on the menu called The scorpion which is large and meant to be shared. It is served flaming and when this is being brought to the table, special effects are triggered throughout the bar. We didn't order this drink but we enjoyed seeing it served to other tables around us. We ordered 3 drinks each....two would have been enough but they were all soooo good. We ordered: - Ode to Okolehao -Port of Spain -Polynesian Forty Niner -Tradewinds -False Idol Old Fashioned -Alkala’s Rum Barrel I highly recommend this tiki experience. Each reservation is good for 90 minutes, I could have just spent much more time in this space just chilling out...but all good things must come to an end. This was a wonderful place for a date with my husband and it's a great place to experience with friends.

False Idol is by far my favorite place to grab a cocktail in San Diego. This tiki/speakeasy bar is small and cozy but very well themed, as soon as you walk in you are transported to what feels like a dark tropical cave of mystery and wonder. The amazing level of detail continues on to the drinks as every cocktail is meticulously crafted to perfection. I have yet to have a bad drink here and I’m sure you will find something that sounds good with the great amount of options offered. The staff is friendly and attentive. They do a great job showing that San Diego hospitality. Pro tip, make sure to make a reservation as this place is popular and can be booked up on the weekends!

Make reservations or get there when they open to get a bar seat. It’s a great speakeasy and is hidden pretty well. We got there just after it opened and was lucky to have two seats left at the bar. It’s a really fun vibe and experience. Drinks are really good and environment is fun.

False Idol is an awesome experience. Located in Craft and Commerce, a not too hidden speak easy tiki bar exists! Definitely make a reservation if possible though they fill up quickly especially for weekends. You can also walk in but it may just be standing room. Try the scorpion bowl type drinks to get the fire and the thunder. The drinks are all delicious!

Surprisingly it was easy to get in. I think we only waited 20 mins. The place has a cool vibes and fun atmosphere. Bartenders were kinda rude, and the drinks were okay. Not my fav place to get drinks since I don’t like sugary drinks. Cool to visit and see.

The drinks were good and came in cool cups. Pretty busy on Saturday night, we waited 45 minutes and wasn’t guaranteed a table. Luckily a group left who were sitting at the bar so we got those seats. They do accept reservations so I recommend that. Also they do cool birthday shots!

Came in late last night for drinks. Was a bit confused finding the place as its kind of speakeasy style inside another bar. Had a great server. There was only standing when we got there but eventually moved us to a table, if a table is important I'd suggest making reservations. Not an issue for us. We enjoyed a few drinks all were fantastically thought out beautifully displayed and tasted delicious. The atmosphere and vibe were great. I really enjoyed the Mac Nut Chi Chi and Painkiller. Prices reasonable. Definitely will be back.

This place is a must visit if you are in San Diego. It has such great vibes, the ambience is LIT and the quality of service and drinks were top notch. We ordered painkillers, chichi, ube bae , zombie, saturn, coronado spc. All the drinks were the best, my fav was chichi. Make sure you book this place in advance and eat before you go because it serves only great drinks. Overall we had a great experience and highly recommend this hidden bar to everyone. cheers !!! MAKE SURE TO TRY DIFFERENT TIKKI MUGS THEY HAVE A GREAT COLLECTION

An awesome spot to get together with friends, go on a date, or whatever the occasion might be. The drinks are strong, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The menu is also extremely expansive so there is definitely a drink for everyone. As you enter, you feel like you're transported to a real tropical hideaway: the vibes are immaculate.

Super trendy and cozy speakeasy. You have to go inside the restaurant crafts and commerce to access the bar. Loved it great bar to visit if you are in little Italy area in San Diego.

Amazing atmosphere! We went in and and asked if we could request a table for false idol and we’re told there would be wait. The host Anna asked if we could like to get a table or sit at the bar at craft and commerce ,the connected restaurant, and waited no more than 25 minutes to get a table while we got drinks and a snack at the bar. Definitely worth the wait.

Located inside of craft and commerce as a “speakeasy” type tiki bar(no pretentious password or entry required, just talk to the host). Fully outfitted to give you Trader Vic’s vibes with rock walls, colored buoys and pufferfish hung from the ceiling, and a wall full of mugs and rums. Only stopped in for post dinner drinks, but we’re quickly sat and informed we had to be gone by 9, ~2 hours post-seating, because there was a reservation, but that was plenty of time for us. They were packed but me and my girlfriend were served quickly after browsing the giant menu. I had a jungle bird which is pretty standard but delicious. They were out of chartreuse otherwise I would’ve had the chartreuse swizzle. Girlfriend had the el Diablo, a refreshing tequila drink with crème de cassis. Great for easy drinking but interesting enough for avid drinkers as well! Definitely going to come back to enjoy the great atmosphere, would make a great pre dinner drink before their adjacent restaurant C&C. It’s consortium so you know what to expect if you like their formula at born and raised, polite provisions, etc…

Fun atmosphere. Large drink selection. Very cool tiki vibe. The drinks are $17 on average. It gets crowded, so standing is one of the options. It’s worth while checking out.

This place/experience is Top notch. Make reservations way in advance as it's worth it. No cover. Average price per drink is $13-16. There is a big volcano like drink for 4 at $45. Impressive. Awesome tiki decor. Has tables and bar seating. Great music. At times thunder and lightening happens when large drinks are ordered. Whole place shakes and glass ball lights dim. I'll return.

Even without a reservation we were able to get in within 30 mins on a Saturday night. The atmosphere and staff are really special. Our cocktails were delicious. Not too much of a wait time for them either. I’ll definitely be back.

Best place for drinks we came to on our trip. Went 3 times in a week!!!

  • 3/5 Alec H. 2 years ago on Google
Pros: fun atmosphere, friendly staff Cons: Excessive ice in drinks, really crowded. You might get a text saying "your table is ready," only to be brought in and told you can only stand. Probably best to experience this place on a weeknight.

Got the Saturn, Jet Pilot, and the Terror of Tokyo. All were great Tiki drinks!

No food at False Idol, that's what Craft and Commerce, pub this speak easy nestled inside of it is for. False idol is a themed Tiki Bar. All the cocktails are wonderful. I had the "Sea Legs" and the "Jungle Bird." On weekends, be sure to reserve a table ahead of time. You can ask the host for standing room and all seats at the bar are first come, first serve. The entire staff is professional, kind, efficient, and courteous. This place shows you why it deserves its rating.

Extremely tiki! Decorated perfectly a bit cozy but awesome, went for our bday weekend did a walk-in but reservations are preferred we went in and still got a table. Speakeasy vibes and we got caught in a tropical storm!! Will return!!!! Best Mai Tai in town.

Wow! This was the best experience I’ve ever had in a bar. The staff here was beyond kind and knowledgeable and truly did their best to make our time here special. We could all use some time where we escape from the world, relax, and enjoy delicious drinks. False Idol does just that and in the most magical way possible. Will never forget this tremendous tiki experience and can’t wait to return! Drinks recommended from our group: Sidewinder’s Fang Une Bae (the most unique and delicious drink we’ve ever tried) Demerara Dry Float (Bartender/Server John brought this to me when I asked for something similar to the Sidewinder’s Fang and it was just terrific!) Do whatever it takes (even if like me that means traveling 3k miles!) to get yourself here, you won’t regret it!
