Oh man, where do I begin? Well, this was the 3rd time we ate here. The first time was back in 2017 I believe & it was amazing! The 2nd time, eh. Service was ok but food was not that great. Today we went for Mother’s Day and I am so grossed out and disappointed. Not only were there gnats all around us while eating, we found ROACHES!! Like 2 inches big. The bathrooms were disgusting. The menu was a huge let down. It doesn’t say anywhere on there that the steaks are a la carte, so we assumed it came with garlic bread, a salad and side, since it said it at the top.. well according to the bill, that wasn’t the case. So we ended up paying almost $40 extra for sides that we thought were included. The service sucked, the waitress kept forgetting stuff and it took like 15+ min for a refill on the drinks. As far as taste, the food was good. Me and my boyfriend each ordered the 16oz ribeye, we also had a Caesar salad, seasonal veggies & asparagus and we ordered fried zucchini for an appetizer. It was $236 total. After todays visit, we will not be returning. I can’t imagine what the kitchen looks like if it was that dirty for the public. You would expect it to be clean for the amount of money people spend there.

Made reservations for a birthday dinner, Service was just ok, it wasn’t very busy, it took a long time just to get a refill on soda. Quality of the food was underwhelming for the price. Scallop pasta had way too much going on, a new menu item I would not recommend.

One of my favorite San Diego locales, The Butcher Shop is an authentic-style Italian Steakhouse. A living relic with an eclectic staff, awesome decor and fantastic food! The 7oz. Peppercorn Filet is a must try!

Phenomenal food and excellent service! The fried calamari was fresh with minimal breading. The 10oz filet mignon was cooked to utter perfection. It was tender, juicy, and melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were extra thick, savory, and delicious. The shrimp scampi along with its buttery sauce was to die for. The shrimps were excellently prepared. Now lastly, to our surprise, the best part of our dinner? The garlic bread. Yes really. We had garlic bread with the french onion soup. It was amazing. The manager greeted us when we first arrived and showed us around the restaurant along with all the signed portraits of the Hollywood superstars. Amazing experience 👏

The Butcher Shop is a classic spot in Kearny Mesa near the 163 freeway. It’s a classy, Chicago-style steakhouse with a nice atmosphere and cool old school seating and lamps. The waitresses are all very kind and easy to talk to. The steaks are really tasty, especially the ribeye with Gorgonzola. I also really love the wedge salad (which is huge), spicy Paloma cocktail, French onion soup, and crème brûlée. Prices aren’t outrageous either—if you’re looking for a classic steakhouse experience in a nice atmosphere for a decent price tag, The Butcher Shop should certainly be a contender!

I finally came here and yes it’s pricey but it was my birthday. Most enjoy a cake for their celebration, I however was craving steak. This place did not disappoint, I ordered the 10oz filet mignon (medium rare) and it was truly divine. Even the Salad was amazing & the garlic bread too. The only issue is I feel it’s understaffed because the wait time for your food is a bit long. So maybe it’ll get better and I hope it does.

I was celebrating my birthday with my family. We were seated promptly with our 7pm reservation. However once seated it seemed we didn't have a waiter/waitress assigned for our table. My husband had to walk up to the front to inform them that we have been waiting 20min without a greeting. When our waitress showed up we ordered our appetizer, drinks & meal. The food was good. Service was not.

Group of 9 co-workers had an awesome dinner. The service was excellent and the good was delicious. Steak and prime rib was a hit with those who had it. My spinach salad was huge. It was very good. Only criticism would be too much dressing. Recommend ordering on the side. All the appetizers were very good. Love the Old-world atmosphere!

Didn't understand the hype. The price was not worth the experience....underwhelming. The salad came the same time as the meal.....no room on the table. By the time I finished my salad, my meal was cold. One child's meal was ordered with vegetables but was given fries. The child's milk was not delivered until half way through the meal, when the server was reminded that milk was ordered. We asked for straws for the table.....we never got them. Only two steaks came with steak knives. We asked for more and only got two..... total of four knives for nine steaks. Someone in our party went to use the restroom and when she came out, she commented it was a mess. I, myself would not pick this place for my special day/occasion. Everyone did say the food was good but I don't believe good food combined with poor service is worth the price.

Brought my family here for a holiday dinner. Ordered some mac n cheese for the baby, fettuccine for my older daughter, for appetizers Calamari and Shrimp Cocktail, grandma, grandpa and I had prime rib and my wife had the rib eye. Service was excellent. The waitress was attentive, friendly and accurate. The babys food came out first which was so awesome. All the food was outstanding. Before we got there the manager Gil called to confirm our reservation. Excellent food, service in a classic and classy old style steakhouse. Great holiday dinner.

Very upscale atmosphere and bar, most of the steaks come A La Carte so I ordered a baked potato with mine. Both items were absolutely delicious, one of the better filets I've been able to enjoy. As you can tell from the photo I was eager to get started eating. Reminder of the meal didn't last too much longer!

My family loves old style steak restaurants and had a great birthday dinner here tonight. We had regular and peppercorn filet minon and prime rib for the main, crab cakes for the appetizer, wine, sangria, and an assortment of desserts. We loved the atmosphere, the food and the service. The manager walked around to check if everything was good -- which was nice. The birthday girl said she would come back tomorrow with friends of hers. I can see my family coming here regularly.

Very good food, excellent service, but a bit more expensive. Still, a great experience in a really old school environment.

Food was pretty good not great. The garlic mashed potatoes were like wall paste but the steak was perfectly cooked. The decor is really nice and very pleasant. Music was 50s doowhap which sucks. The food is not worth the cost, it is a bad value. Prices seems to have doubled. Service was great and easy parking.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. The atmosphere is so classy with an old world charm. Beef stroganoff is my lunch time favorite and it's hard to beat their prime rib at dinner time. I make a point to visit whenever I come to San Diego.

Great interior but unfortunately the food and service did not match. Steak and prime rib were good but the waitress mixed up the temperatures and it took so long to get the entrees to arrive that we didn't have time to wait for them to redo them. The waitress was like "oh well" and no adjustment on the check. There were other mediocre things too. Just not a good experience.

The bartender was the best part of the meal. Enjoyed sitting at the bar and listening to the stories of San Diego over the decades. Loved the chowder and French onion soup. The pork chop and prime rib were great. It may be pricey but it’s a classic steakhouse. I’ve had much worse and much better for the same price but you don’t get the old-fashioned restaurant vibe like you do here.

We're from the Midwest and have traveled here twice in two years whole visiting San Diego. The food has been delicious, the drinks strong, and the service on point. Definitely a must go to spot!

Underwhelming. Love the old school atmosphere but the food was really below average. My "smashed waygu burger" was a standard patty, the same I might get anywhere. But little flavor. The fries on the other hand, were over seasoned. My partner had sirloin which he liked. But the accompanying garlic mashed potatoes were salty and pasty. I've been wanting to go for dinner because of good reviews... I'm glad I tried lunch first. Roasted garlic and toast complimentary starter was delicious. I'm really sorry the meal was so disappointing.

Attended a catered event. The atmosphere is very nice, reminiscent of classic Las Vegas steak house. The salad was very fresh and tasty with an excellent dressing. The steak was fantastic. Tender, juicy, and served medium rare, which is something I usually I don't prefer, but this was a treat. The mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned and very fresh. Service was prompt and pleasant. Great place to host a catered event.

They kill the animal they put it on a plate they play a 70s music and they charge you $100 per person. They have no idea about cooking, taste, spices, flavors, etc. This was the first time in my life I paid ZERO tip in a restaurant. We asked them several times to cook the steak Well-done, each time they just put the whole plate in the microwave and brought it back to the table. The plate itself was burning hot, mashed potato got burned and dried the steak was still bleeding. First time last time in this awful place. If you go there, take a salt shaker with you
