Gaslamp Quarter - The Historic Heart Of San Diego

Tourist attraction Historic city center

👍👍 This is one of the coolest historic districts I’ve found during my travels. There are a lot of cool places to eat and have a drink. Hotels, art galleries and cafes are amazing, too. I recommend you park your car on one of the automated parking garages, they are cheaper than parking on the street. People often mention restaurants, Diego, area, bars, great, shops, Gaslamp, people, visit, nice,

For the most park it is an amazing place with many great restaurants, bars and shops. However, as you travel farther north, away from the convention center, the area becomes a bit more grungy, with homeless people sleeping on sidewalks, harassing people eating in the outside parts of restaurants. Though, it is no where near as bad as Los Angeles or San Francisco, it is still a presence.

Stunning and beautiful place! Plenty of restaurants and bars. Although we went at 1:00 pm on a Wednesday and it looked like an apocalypse, everything was mostly empty and nobody in the street. Apart from that it is beautiful and the ghirardelli store has the best brownie!

The Gaslamp Quarter is a section of downtown San Diego comprised of historic buildings, tons of restaurants, nightclubs, and many abandoned buildings. This section of town is right next to the courthouse, but surprisingly, there aren't as many homeless folks as you might expect. Also, people mind their business here, for the most part. There really are so many hidden gems here... you need at least a week to see it all.

We have been to San Diego a few times and this is without a doubt our favorite part of town. There is always something going on and there are so many bars and restaurants that it will take you a few visits to really see and enjoy everything. There are places or all walks of life and choices. I would highly recommend staying at a hotel that is within walking distance because it will enhance your experience.

We visited the Gaslamp Quarter around 7 am. on a Saturday for breakfast and noticed many homeless people on the streets. We were kind of hesitant to walk around, so we parked right next to the restaurant we dined at. With that being said, this area looks like a lot of fun at night or in broad daylight when there are people around. We notice lots of great shops, bars, and restaurants here. Just be careful in the early mornings.

This neighborhood has a strong and vibrant atmosphere to it. It has many options if you want to have dinner, go to a bar or a club or even some little boutiques. However it does have homeless presence. It has many bus lines nearby.

Really hard to get parking but other than that this place is lit! The best bars and restaurants in San Diego is here. As I got there during Comic Con season, the roads were closed and the crowd was huge, most of the restaurants here are wheelchair friendly and the price for the food and drinks are reasonable.

LOVE the Gaslamp Quarter 💕 the only thing i couldn't help but notice was the homelessness population was on every single street, freeway entrance, freeway exit, sidewalk, & gas station. I was glad to see at least they had tents to sleep in, but whomever provided those tents, couldn't they go one step further and provide permanent shelter??? We're all humans existing on this planet together, we have a rover on Mars, surely we can solve this issue?!

There is always something going on down here! It's great to just walk around or get a bite and drink. 5th Ave is mostly closed off from traffic so you can walk a few blocks and just people watch. The night hours are when it get kinda crazy and busy so get there early for parking. My only concern is the the street really need to be cleaned more often, all the foot traffic can make certain areas feel kinda dirty.

The Gaslight District of San Diego is full of amazing restaurants. Delicious food around every corner! 🥐🥩🍕🍔🥖🥑🧄🍄🥦🍳🥓🥞🧂🥗🍗🧀🧇🍣🍨🍩🍦🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🥃🍽🥨🥯🥥 Great hotels too. Close to the waterfront and seaport village. (Not much street parking due to expanded outdoor restaurant dining...thanks government covid restrictions.) What a great city! (To bad San Diego is in a state run by idiots.)

Vibrant area with gorgeous buildings and some typical urban issues. Plenty of shopping, bars and restaurants but not really a great place for kid activities. Also it surprised me to not find hardly any coffee houses since they are usually everywhere now. Would definitely want to go back to explore more and see a museum.

The Gaslamp District in San Diego is a vibrant and exciting neighborhood that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and entertainment. From its charming Victorian architecture to its lively nightlife, there is something for everyone in this bustling area. One of the things I love most about the Gaslamp District is its rich history. Walking down the streets, you can see the beautiful old buildings that have been preserved and restored to their former glory. It's like taking a step back in time and experiencing the charm of old San Diego.

Lunch special during the day are quite decent and s lot of restaurants offer them. This section of the city leading to the convention center has a lot of galleries showcasing the best of San Diego. Wait for the evening for an even livelier atmosphere where gastropubs and restaurant facades will knock you off your feet.

(Translated by Google) One of San Diego's most visited areas is the Gaslamp Quarter, however the locals refer to the area as the Gaslamp District. The name derives from the gas lamps that used to illuminate the streets. Despite the name, gas lamps were not so common in these neighborhoods, but the name stuck. Gaslamp Quarter is San Diego's most popular entertainment district with restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. Several festivals and street parties are held here every year.

I have lived here for lot of my younger years. Not many food stores near here. No all night coffee shops. No rest rooms but inside a bar. Homeless are mostly all ok. Most just give up looking for a job here. I have been here searching for a job. With a good smart phone, transportation. Clean cloths, hair cut and a place to stay and proof of it. Well liked in town. "And still not one call back for a job. So these are the people you will be drinking with. Not a good place when you need real needs. Like a bathroom. Or safe place like a coffee shop open late to sober up after spot. That's where the money is here. After hours coffee shop open only from midnight to 6am. With internet, coffee, wall plug. And a couch to sit on where no one homeless can go because of a drink min. And no night police out here. Just SDPD. If you can get them on the phone. Let alone get them to listen to you if some ones following around. Safer spots at the beach near mission and P.B. to torrey pines. This is me, i'm normal like most people trying to stay a float out here. The othe pic. Is close to the area. I just couldn't find a good spot for a pic there. Just streets with bars and food. No big stores Ralph on G St. And 3rd n 4th St. Parking off market under ground. If you see me, I'm a safe person ready to keep you safe too. And have hope for people out there. It is hard to find work.

Very unique area of San Diego. An astounding number of eating establishments. Some streets are pedestrian only, which is nice. Lots of historical buildings with plaques that describe the history of the buildings. As in most West Coast major cities there are homeless roving around. The further away from the waterfront you get the more established the encampments are. We walked to our dinner @ Water Grill and did not have any problems. A definite destination for your SD visit.
