I have been traveling to San Diego a lot this year and I always stay at the Rambler. The rooms are cute, clean, and affordable. I appreciate that the trolley runs nearby as well. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I love the cafe as well and guests get half off. When I'm back home I find myself craving the food! Thank you to the staff for creating a great guest experience every time I visit.

I would highly recommend! For the price you cannot beat the location, amenities, cleanliness and friendly staff. The noise was at a minimum. Obviously with a motel you're going to hear people walking past your room, but at night time it's quiet. I stayed 7 days and only had one incident of loud neighbors, but other than that it was a great stay! I came in to run the Rock N Rock marathon and vacation afterwards. The beds are so comfortable! I felt so well rested even though I had ran 26.2 miles 😊. The Rambler Coffee offers coffee, drinks and coffee. The service was good and the food was also descent for the price (50% if you're a guest). The pool area is really neat and well maintained. Overall the motel was great for the price and a woman traveling it felt very safe! I'll definitely stay again!

A cheap place to stay near the 5 freeway with unexpectedly great and terrible elements. Great: fresh redesign with very tasteful touches, nice restaurant, great family yard games, arcade games, bicycles available. Terrible: active mice infestation in my ground floor room complete with fresh mouse poop, room allocation strategy where a 20% occupied hotel chose to group all patrons in the same block resulting in major (and unnecessary) noise from neighbors and all the nicer rooms (w/ a view/light/air/space) being empty, no refrigerator microwave or coffeemaker in the rooms, loud and ineffective A/C units, very limited amenities, rooms that do not resemble advertised pics AT ALL.

This hotel is easy to access, check in/out was easy, and there is plenty of parking. The property and the rooms are clean and maintained well. I appreciated having clean towels delivered daily. I wish there was a mini fridge included in the room but they did have fridges available to rent at a nightly rate. I would stay here again if I was in town. There's even a nice walk by the bay right by the hotel!

Pros: the room itself was clean and very cute. Was able to utilize the complimentary bike rentals. The check out process was very quick. They also provide helmets and bike locks which was a plus. Also, hosted movie night at the pool which they do every Saturday night. Cafe and arcade games was a great addition. Very cute set up and Instagram worthy. Location was only 15 mins from everything and was very reasonably priced. Will definitely stay here again when visiting again. Cons: bathroom door was a little difficult to close due to swelling/ damage at the bottom. Sink did not drain and there was a small amount of ants in the bathroom. No fridge or microwave.

I liked the room layout, it was nicely cleaned and the bed was really comfortable. The wifi was not great and wouldn't load even pictures, a speed test said it was "very slow", and this was for the entirety of my two day visit. They play a movie loudly on Saturdays in the pool area (from 8-10pm when I was there), so if you're staying over the weekend and want quiet throughout you should request a room away from the pool.

Clean, comfortable bed and beautiful painting inside the room. I would have given 5 stars if the motel provides hair conditioner. The motel provided the hair conditioner dispenser but it's empty. Also, the motel is next to the freeway and tram station so it's always noisy. Luckily I carry ear plugs so I rested fine. No soap to use in the sink. I ended up getting soap from the shower dispenser. And, only provided one plastic drinking glass in the room.

My three kids and I stayed here for 6 nights while he played baseball. Our location was perfect, the staff was very friendly and accommodating & guests get a discount in their cafe (which had great coffee& food). My kids were so excited about their mini arcade and the pool. Very cute vibes at this place. As far as our room- it was cleaned daily, beds were comfortable, shower pressure was great. No mini fridge but wasn’t a problem with my cooler. They have an ice machine, washer/dryer, and free parking. Very happy with our choice to give the rambler a try (: highly recommend

Accidentally booked 2 nights a week ahead of schedule. When I arrived they said it was okay, to “just call the booking company and have it adjusted.” I did just that, and the booking company stated that the motel would have to make the adjustment. So much hearsay that the situation got lost in translation. Now a week later, here I am trying to get a refund for the days I did NOT stay that the motel which they are charging me for. I’ve been trying to call and cancel for days now via booking site, (which did their part on trying to communicate with the motel) and phone them, but they never answer their phone. Terrible communication and customer service. The rooms are definitely not worth what they charge, and their room phones don’t even work if you need to dial the operator for whatever reason. Would not recommend this place AT ALL.

This place has a great nostalgic 70s feel. Remodeled hotel and rooms. Very clean and in a good location. They have a great bistro on site in their lobby area and you get 50% off anything you order when you stay there. Happy to be able to have my smoothies in the morning. Close to a hiking/biking trail to enjoy beautiful views on runs/workouts. The pool area has a nice fire pit and corn hole game you can play. I like the way the pool area lights up at night. Only downside to this hotel is that there’s no microwave or refrigerator in the room. And the curtains don’t fully block the light in the morning from the sun. The bed was pretty comfortable, not the best but also not the worst.

Absolute excellence. For the price, you can not beat the Rambler. The room was clean and very nicely appointed. Beds are memory foam and very comfortable. The shower water pressure and shower head are excellent and soaps are great. Staff is friendly. The lobby/restaurant/arcade is awesome, with fun retro games and a full cafe with good breakfast and lunch food, and it’s half price if you’re staying on property. There’s a surprisingly nice view from the second floor rooms. And we paid less than $100 per night. Incredible. Only downsides, as people have mentioned, is that the area is a bit noisy due to the proximity to the freeway. We had a couple of neighbors who were having a party outside their room but they were respectful and fairly quiet. They were smoking outside our room, so we could smell it through the HVAC, but it dissipated quickly. I can’t blame the hotel for people ignoring the No Smoking sign.

I don't normally leave reviews but my partner and I had such a lovely time at this hotel that I wanted to let everyone know! Check in was a breeze, we drove in from Arizona and they were able to check us into our room 3 hours early which was very appreciated. Room was simple and clean with a very comfortable bed. We requested extra towels from the front desk and were given a bunch of extra soaps and body washes. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind! The location of this hotel is amazing - right off the freeway so the whole city is easily accessible. It's also right near the water, the sunset from the parking lot was beautiful. Very cute outdoor area with a fire pit and music. We didn't use the pool but it was sparkling, and other guests looked like they were enjoying it. Absolutely loved having DirecTV in the room. Only thing to note - our room was situated at the very front of the building so we could hear a lot of people, especially those using the outdoor recreation area and those leaving the lobby. This didn't bother us at all (both EXTREMELY heavy sleepers), but if you're sensitive to sound, maybe try to request a room near the back of the building. We will be making this hotel our regular spot in the San Diego area!

Amazing weekend at the Rambler. This motel is all about the experience. Outdoor movie at the pool, free cruiser bike rentals, bike/walk path along the coast was footsteps from the motel, cafe food/coffee was great and half price for motel guests, arcade games were affordable and such a fun touch. Rooms were older, but cool retro renovations and clean. Laundry facilities were cheap and clean. Awesome awesome awesome experience!

Great atmosphere and theme to the hotel. The lobby is really cool and a nice place to relax and the coffee bar is an added bonus. Very quiet neighborhood though it is near a freeway if you’re a light sleeper. I barely noticed the any noise from it in my room.

We came we with mid-low expectations since its a "Motel", but i was pleasantly surprised. I was not blown away, but it was decent. We only stay one night. Plus they offer Free rental on beach bikes.

Nice average motel. Sweeping pool is a great thing to have. Just the idea of the pool makes me happy, although, we haven’t used it )))))) Stuff is super friendly and helpful. The motel is located next door to a Casino )))) Starbucks 20 minutes away walking

This is my first time staying at a motel and I was super impressed! There were room service every day. The place was very clean better than many 3-4 star hotels. There’s also a coffee shop in the same area. If you’re a guest here, you get 50% off everything. I recommend their coffee and avocado toast.

Great stay! Our room was clean with a comfy bed. Very cute, stylish hotel. Plus 1/2 off at the cafe since we booked on their website. Definitely recommend!

The cleanest motel I've ever stayed in. Nicely decorated, super comfy bed. Lots of water pressure in the shower. Nice pool area with a fire feature. Guests get 40% off in the coffee shop. Convenient location to freeway and Imperial Beach. The 7 mile casino next door has excellent food. My only suggestion, patio heaters on the coffe shop patio would be a great addition. The view of the wetlands is very nice.

This place is so cute and a great price! Stayed with two toddlers, the staff was very accommodating. The coffee shop is a great price (you get a discount if your staying there) their coffee was amazing! You can request a refrigerator for an additional cost. The bathrooms in the rooms are not refurbished, our tub was a little rusty and had trouble diverting to a shower. But other than that, loved it! Really close to seaworld and Sesame Street!

I love this Hotel! The looks, the vibe, the service. My room was 113, It was clean, very spacious, the right temperature, The right smell, enough parking. The only thing I don’t like is when you’re in a room with the door that connects to the room next door. Highly recommended!

August 2023 In San Diego area for one night and left the choice of accommodation to our daughter. She nailed it! Decorated in a laid back California motif. Quaint motel that took me back to my youth when on vacation. Rooms a bit small for a family of four, however beds were comfortable and property was quiet. Didn't have a chance to use the pool but it looked very clean and relaxing. AC was louder than normal but served its purpose without issue. Bathroom outdated but clean. No issues with wifi. Great location just off the I-5 and 5 minute walk to the Metro light rail station. All staff that we interacted with were friendly and accommodating.

Super clean, comfortable beds, a powerful shower with excellent staffing! What else do you need…oh how about they also have easy parking, it’s in a convenient location off west E street, a cafe on site (every thing was 50% off for Rambler guest), a laundry mat with 2 washers & 2 Dryers $2.00 a load (laundry soap for purchase at front desk if needed), and a nice pool to cool down n chill. Let’s just say we’re coming back here when we’re back in town.

Super cute place! Everything was incredibly clean and the customer service was great! I like that they had a security officer outside every day/night. The Rambler coffee/cafe was so good! I love that the guests get 50% off. Also, they provide the pool towels at the front. Great place to stay. Near highway but was not loud at all.

Pretty good motel with newly renovated retro looking rooms and lobby. There is no breakfast included, but you get 50% discount at the rambler cafe in front which is really great and open 24hrs. The only major con I could find was that there was no water fountain anywhere on campus and tap water is not potable. Not sure why this is not considered an essential by management

This was such a fun place to stay. However, it's still very much a motel our first room we stayed in smelled like mildew it was honestly awful. But thankfully when we told the front desk they switched us to a new room that did not have a smell! The other downside was that there were not mini fridges or microwavea available in the rooms. Overall, we had a good stay but it was just those little things that didn't make it amazing.

This place is awesome. It’s a retro model so don’t expect the Ritz, but instead a super cute, super comfortable, super clean, and super thoughtful 50’s motel experience. Price was a deal, checkin was easy and the view is surprisingly beautiful. Beds and mattresses are new with great sheet and pillows. Bathoroom is small, just like it would have been 50 years ago, but clean and functional. And breakfast is delicious, healthy and fast. I am definitely going to stay here again.

This motel was the first to understand and accomodate us when we asked for a night at 2 am to rest from our trip. we were deiving and needed to stop. when we called other hotels they could not figure out to receive us that same nigh at 2 am. ( technically the morning of the next day). The staff was super friendly, professional and accomodating. The location was perfect for us. The rooms were super clean and the beds super comfy. We stayed an extra day and night just because the motel was so cool and comfortable. The surrounding has really nice places, theres a bike ride near by and theres amazing food in the area. Their coffee shop was really good. We tried( not everything at once ) the soup, chicken pesto sandwich, the latte, mexican moca, croissants and bagels. All delicios

Great place with a retro vibe. Room was clean, (no refrigerator or microwave) but the bed was comfy. Esmeralda in the front was very helpful and friendly, pointed out a few activities we can do. Fun old school games to play in the lobby. The pool is heated and the fireplace next to it was great to sit next to at night, with a few games to play, (does close at 9pm.) Will definitely be staying here again.

The rooms are clean, colorful and the customer service is awesome!!! We had a wonderful stay. The food in the restaurant is delicious, especially the Chicken Pesto. If I ever travel that way again this is where I'll stay. My only suggestion would be microwave and fridge.

We loved this place & views of the Bay. It looks like a Marketing major redesigned this place. The theme is carried through in every aspect, impressive & fun. The attached coffee shop was themed & really nice too. The beds were super comfy. The parking lot was full but we didn't hear our neighbors. My 15yo said the shower was the best ever. The pool had fun games for the teens. There is a 20 mi trail system across the street that was so pretty. Easy freeway access. This place is a gem.

Looking for a decently priced place to stay that is conveniently located by the freeway to get you to downtown San Diego in less than 10 minutes? Well look no further! We noted in reviews that this motel had been recently renovated and we decided to take a chance on the Rambler given the overall vibe and price! It was impressive! The beds are comfy, the shower are nice, and the size of the rooms is good. Staff was kind and welcoming especially with us checking in so late! Parking was easy as well. I know folks bring up the noise level, I honestly wasn’t bothered by it at all and our room was facing the freeway. We do live in the city so maybe that helped? The only downside is the no fridge or microwave. With being tourists we would come home with food and forget we didn’t have it to warm/cool. Overall though, this place is a strong contender of places to stay in the San Diego area!

Great place to stay. Rooms are clean quiet and comfy. Small coffee shop and mini mart on site with great lounging area. Lounging area consists of seating and mini arcade. Friendly and polite staff. House keeppers go above and beyond!! Plenty of parking. There is no microwave or fridge in the rooms however they do offer free ice from the ice machine.

First time staying at The Rambler Motel. Staff working the front desk and restaurant were so helpful and nice. The ladies working at the restaurant answered any questions we had. The salad with chicken was delicious. I decided on getting a mango smoothie, it was refreshing. Guests staying at the motel get 50% off items at the restaurant. This place has a retro vibe to it. Plenty of arcade games to keep yourself busy! Sadly, they didn't have fries when we checked in. The water pressure was slow but they fixed it a few minutes later.

Beware! Front desk makes mistakes like checking in other people in to rooms already in use! I'm lying down trying to fall asleep after an extremely long day at work and someone opens up my door with a key card! Person is immediately gone out of sight! I call front desk they say my deepest apologies that was a front desk mistake. I say well if I wasn't in my room some stranger could've went inside my room and taken whatever they like! Make sure you sleep with the latch on! It is a very cute motel. Has a groovy 70s sort of theme. The pool area is also groovy! Has games like giant jenga and giant connect 4! In the lobby there's some cool "floating" sphere chairs and video arcade games. They also have a small coffee/breakfast snack place called Rambler Coffee. I have not tried it but when you stay with them you get 50% off! Will I stay here again most likely NOT! I don't feel safe leaving my belongings here while I'm out having lunch etc. Also the walls are very thin you can hear people talking very clearly.

Just a great place to stay while in San Diego. No micro fridge or microwave but the in hotel store is open 24/7. Of the 100s of hotels I've stayed in this one is in my top 3. Very clean, security is always around keeping the area safe and the coffee shop is great. The only place I will stay when in San Diego.

Kevin was so very kind and accommodating. I had spent a stressful morning trying to correct a booking date but Kevin went the extra mile to help me out and rebook me correctly. Whilel this is a typical motel setup, the rooms are new and fresh and very cutely decorated with uplifting colors, messages on the walls etc. The beds were big and super comfortable with lots of comfy pillows. There's a small Cafe on site with coffee shop and snacks available. The location was a little noisy as it was near the freeway but with the door shut and the air conditioning running the freeway noise was barely noticeable.

Enjoyed our stay here. Rooms good size for sharing, lots of counter space at sink for getting ready. Nice lobby/coffee shop area. We definitely needed coffee earlier than they opened though as we were working on CST. Nice pool area/fire pit but closes early. Great walking trail very close to the hotel too. For the cost, proximity to SD airport, I highly recommend.

  • 5/5 Josh G. 2 years ago on Google
I honestly have nothing but good things to say about the Rambler! First off, the check in experience was the most seamless I’ve ever had since they allow you to start it online beforehand. The rooms were super great as expected; you never know what design you might get! They also have the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in at a motel or hotel (memory foam!). Definitely would recommend based on our experience and the convenient location!

  • 5/5 Fernando A. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful place for the price and in central to all locations. Price was around $100 a night. No fridge but they do have a coffee shop right there. The coffee is coffee but the bagels with egg, that’s bomb!! And massive for $8-12 dollars way better than most places. I recommend this place. Don’t expect the Marriott or Hilton but your just sleeping and storing. So do it!!!
