I love this old house downtown. Easily overlooked but worth the look around inside. So much history. Brochures explain each room inside or do the audio tour. This can be a quick visit in 30 min. Very cheap to enter. Oldest house downtown San Diego. It's also HAUNTED and been on TV for it's hauntings. Two story fully furnished from 1800's.

Nice museum that gives a peek into the history of an important San Diego family, but also on life in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

Fantastic place to go and learn a great deal about American and European automotive history. I have to say though, the Automotive Museum has a great collection of motorcycle and associated history. My favorite part of the museum were the bikes!!! A lot of great cars but an even better selection of bikes to learn about the history of motorcycle development. I highly recommend this museum to anyone that is going up to Balboa Park!

(Translated by Google) There are many classic cars on one floor. There are dozens of vintage motorcycles. You can also straddle the tattered Yamaha American (model unknown). The best recommendation is the Cadillac (?), Which has undergone a number of modifications, such as ironing, drinking water, and a bar where you can drink alcohol. Is "I see the world" flowing? Almost all exhibits are marked with "Do not touch", so don't touch them.

Visited here 07/21. I wish I could give this place more than five stars. I love historical homes that feel like a time capsule. And at $8 for admission (which they could easily charge double) you can't go wrong. Tours are self-guided with a flyer that gives you info on each of the rooms with furniture that date throughout the history the home was in use. I would love to do a guided tour next time I'm in San Diego or a haunted tour. They have a lovely little gift shop before you leave.

The Gaslamp Museum has an exciting exhibition, "A Splendid Decennium: Victorian to Vanguard." This special fashion exhibit will be on view until April 27, 2024. Textile artist Marty Ornish is a critically acclaimed designer who has won numerous awards, along with being featured in many museums and exhibitions throughout U.S. and Europe. In addition, Sandee Wilhoit, is an exceptional San Diegan historian, writer, and lead tour guide for the Gaslamp Museum. Sandee is a "Walking, Talking Encyclopedia" of San Diego. This fashion exhibit was very eclectic and inspiring. It was definitely a must-see showstopper. Finally, the entire staff of the Gaslamp Museum is so SWEET!

It will start out with the positive, it was great to see some the historic places on the walking tour, the guide gave good historic facts about the surroundings. As a medium and a paranormal investigator I was in awe of the fake gestures and lies told to make this seem better than the boring waste it was. The guide actually had everyone download a "ghost app" on their phones so they could see the ghosts around them, when the app would shout out a random name the guide would say, oh ya they visit often. Seriously!!! I saw two spirits while on the tour, one inside the museum the the guide (a self proclaimed paranormal investigator and experienced ghost communicator) never acknowledged at all, and the other in one of the other buildings we were observing. When asked why the group didn't get any responses while they were using the investigation equipment and only when she did, she said, "They know me" they won't always communicate with strangers and "They must be tired, they just aren't active tonight." I was so disappointed! I was hoping my friend that was with me could experience something paranormal. Don't waste your money!!!! They were late starting and people actually left the group because of the B.S.

It's a beautiful house with a thick history about ghosts. I had goosebumps while walking across the bathroom and hospital room, the 🎹 was creepy, too. Scary, but you need to visit once!

It's a small museum but worth visiting. They provide self-guided pamphlet to read as you go through the rooms. However, you'll get the most out of it talking with the museum docent. On a Friday afternoon in October, they didn't have many coming in, so I was able to ask questions. The docent was very knowledgeable about the house and the surrounding Gaslamp District, whether it's historical or spooky hauntings. Also ask about Bum, the dog mascot. The gift shop is also tiny in the same room as admission is purchased. The courtyard outside is huge and seems like a nice area to rest of you've been walking around the Gaslamp all day.

Haunted? Maybe. However some of the "activity" comes down to the floorboards rocking chairs as you step near them. It is a great piece of San Diego history, however. I recommend giving it your patronage based on the historic merits of the home. If you happen to see any ghosts, that is an added bonus.

A waste of time and money and an unpleasant experience to boot. All the rooms are roped off, plenty of folks skipped admission which was in a crammed office off to the left, and there were literally a dozen homeless people ornamenting the lawn, not even speaking to one another. You could tell they just lived there because it smelled like their bathroom.

This visit was lovely, I spent a day in San Diego and didn't have the time or energy to run around which made this perfect. It is a quick visit that you can make if you just want a peek of history but also a place that you can take your time and explore little by little being marvelled by the historic details and gathered artefacts. Also the staff is super kind and friendly, made the environment the most agreable and even kept my huge bag safe while i visited to make the visit more comfortable.

Honestly a letdown. I thought this would be a great museum and all but I have seen so many of the cars that were there and even have one more valuable then some of them. Also, the Plank Road display has so little information that I have read websites that had more info so it made that one pointless. The cars were in nice condition though.

It was so interesting!!! Loved the history...Who knew!! I have lived in San Diego since 1969 but never knew about this historical place until about 5 years ago!!! So important to know and be able to experience San Diego's past! Plus it is incredibly haunted. While taking a picture of my friends in the courtyard, there were hundreds of orbs around them in the photo !!

Definitely worth a stop if you are seeing some of the other museums in the area and want to kill some time. This is not a huge museum but they do have a great collection of cars to see and they rotate most of the cars out every 4 months, so you might end up seeing something new and unique the next time you stop by. There are cars, motorcycles, and few old vintage cars. The museum has a collection that closely resembles some of the automotives that are shown on the History channel show American Pickers. If you're into older automotives then this is definitely a good place to check out.

As a car fanatic it is amazing. They give you information and quality cars. They make sure that the cars that are being borrowed are not touched or harmed. I cant wait to go their again when they rotate in new cars!

Wow, there are some really cool cars to see here! Unfortunately only half the museum was open the day we went and they were also taking more cars out while we were walking around. So many motorcycles to see also. Was a lot of fun to see such a great mixture of old and new cars plus lots of fun facts that I'd never heard before.

This museum was worth the money! Look for the 2 for 1 admission coupon on the counter of the International Gift Shop - just $12 for 2 people. They had the Low-Rider event going on with amazing detail of cars and art. The displays were very informative and choice of cars were superb. The gentleman who was there was so interesting with details & stories. This is a smaller museum but packed with good displays!

  • 5/5 Zach L. 4 years ago on Google
Great prices, cool cars. We only spent a couple hours here but I love cars and it was cool seeing all these older cars with all the history attatched to them. They had lots of lowriders when I went which I'll be honest is definitely not my thing but I appreciate all automotive craftsmanship. I kind of wish they had a bigger gift shop but I got a couple cool metal signs while I was here. Great motorcycle section of the museum also, I learned a lot about lots of different cars I didnt even know existed and I learned more about cars that I did know about. Would love to come back here.

Not as good for the price when considering other museums in California as well as the Barber Vintage Museum in Alabama. Small assortment of vehicles and very difficult to find parking since it's shared with the air museum and yhe Prada. It took us over 30 minutes to park and if you have a disabled family member you won't even find an available disabled parking space.

Parts of the museum were free on Tuesday so my friend and I went down to see the advertised cars. When we approached the advertised section of cars they wanted $2.00. The small amount of money was not a problem but advertising deceptively was a problem. I call it lying. Next time you advertise be honest. Just charge $5.00 for adults to see everything. That would be a deal.

Small eclectic assembly of cars, many motorcycles. We went on the "free" Tues. Guess what? It's not ENTIRELY free! They have a special section with an exhibit for $2.00. Now I know $2 is not much. But if they say it's free, it should be FREE. The reason for 4 stars. The cars on show are wonderful. The International harvester is the quintessential Horseless carriage. The Reo is early sophistication. The Cord is Glamorous and the Cadillac is substantial even back then. Nice way to spend the morning.
