Came down south for lunch from La Jolla and I was completely blown away by how this hole in the wall spot is doing birria tacos better than anyone else in the city. We have absolutely nothing to the north that's this good. All the meat was perfectly cooked and extremely tender, the salsa was hot and spicy. I'll definitely be making the commute again to have tacos here again. World class!

I heard this place made yelps best taco shop in the USA so I had to try it for myself. It's was apparently on the news also. It was busy with little parking and a 20-30min wait time to order. I got a Mexican Coke, Taco de Birria, Quesotaco de Birria, Quesotaco Extremo, and a Torta de Birria. Mexican Coke is made with real sugar and better flavor. Taco de Birria was good but could use a little salt. Quesotaco de Birria had good flavor without the need for salt. The Quesotaco Extremo had the best flavor just right and was amazing. Ask for extra napkins they are messy. The Torrta de Birria was also and amazing flavor it was so very! Absolutely recommend if you like tacos.

If you're looking for the best tacos in San Diego (especially birria tacos), this is a must-stop. The birria tacos are blow-your-mind good — get the consomme for dippins if you want to go all out. Service is great and super fast. It's a roadside joint where you order and eat outside. There's no seating — everyone just eats out of the trunk of their car or takes the tacos to go — but I can't emphasize enough how important it is for you to try this place. Truly an experience.

This is a no frills birrieria but they are the best around. There’s minimal seating outside and no dine in but don’t let that keep you. These are the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve had no shortage of tacos, birria or otherwise. The tortilla was homemade, the meat was unbelievable. My only regret is that I didn’t come hungrier.

Ed Fernandez Birria is the TRUTH. It’s an art of flavor, freshness and robust Mexican spices. The red hot sauce, the consume to dip into and the perfect fresh cut pairings, DAMN GINA!! It’s probably good that I don’t live closer.

Best Birria taco I've ever had. The beef was super juicy, tasty, and tender. There was no fat or gristle. The price for the amount of beef was fair. Also tried the Birria and Nervio taco. It was also very good. The Nervio was like a soft tendon, almost gelatin soft, and added a nice texture to the Birria beef. Also tried the Quesataco Extremo. It was very tasty with a good amount of melted cheese. The taco shells are freshly made and crisped up on the grill, so they don't fall apart as you eat. The salsa is the freshest I've ever had. It must have just been made as I waited for my order. It was bright red, thick, and very flavorful. It has a good kick, so you really don't have to add much to each taco. We arrived on a Sunday at 11:49am, waited in line for 12 minutes to order, and then just another 10 minutes to pick up our order. We ate at the standing tables under the canopy. Parking is usually packed, so you should plan to loop around the block a few times until a spot opens up.

Melt in your mouth birria! We got the birria quesataco, quesataco extremo and the chupacabra. All so flavorful, decadent and even more yummy dipped in their consomme. Recommended by a family member and Wow! Their recommendation was on point.. Excellent! (Plan to tailgate, as currently there is only one patio dining table outside and no indoor seating)

A quaint taco shop that offered a lively outdoor eating area and tacos that captured it all. Service was helpful and fast! The tacos went down almost equally as fast as they were DELICIOUS! Highly recommend the quesotaco options and a small cup of their broth. Can't go wrong with a Mexican coke on top of it all! Must go!

OMG was that good. Just had a quesabirria and a birria taco with extra tortillas and consommé. It was the best most messy meal I have ever eaten. Must eat it in the parking lot but it is worth it

You don't have to cross the border to get authentic Birria. It was so delicious I completely forgot to take pictures of the food cause I was too busy munching it down. 10/10 recommended. Delicious food it will hit the spot if you are craving authentic birria.

Ordered almost everything from their menu - the portions are huge, greasy, and meaty. People were super nice. Was expecting a lot more being almost on the border with Mexico - sad to say I had better birria tacos in Texas. The flavour wasn’t just there, the consomé wasn’t there in terms of flavours.

Just finished having a couple tacos de birria and consume, and this place is excellent. The birria was perfectly tender, juicy, and had great flavor. The consume was also top knotch. We also got some Birria con Nervio tacos and they were very tender. It's worth the trip to South San Diego.

Super excited to come to this family-run taco joint. Tried the taco extreme, birria taco + broth and we got the tres leches cake. Everything was super delicious. Only downside, the crunchy taco wasn’t crunchy anymore by the time I got it. Super friendly service. Unfortunately, no place to sit and eat.

If you like authentic Mexican food and great tacos this is a venue with checking out. They had very friendly staff and quick for how busy it was too. We plenty of indoor and out door seating and phenomenal tacos. Everything I ordered was super tasty I would highly recommend visiting for a bite.

Had heard about this place for a while now and finally made it down. Line out the door, simple but good menu. Everything was good especially the birria with Nervio(tendons) but the meat was a little bland. Will go back for a second try but wasn’t my favorite

Delicious birria tacos !!! Have been coming here for a few years now and expect to continue coming for years to come. Recommend you call ahead. The line to order can get pretty long ... Their quesatacos are great. In fact, all their menu items are great !!!

San Diego Taco Series, Part 11 “If you are five minutes early, you are already ten minutes late.” Vince Lombardi While I don’t in any way question this precept of Mr. Lombardi, I’ve struggled with tardiness seemingly my whole life. Having admitted that, yesterday was a notable exception. How could it not be considering this place was crowned “2022 Top Taco Spot in America” by Yelp and recommended to us by both @biggiesterls and @teachseuss? Dana was curious why coaxing my typically lagging rear end out the door was noticeably less cumbersome…until we had our first bites. If this is your first visit we’d recommend you order the “Ed Fernandez #1.” This 4 taco sampling is outstanding and if you also order the “Quesotaco” (which is keto friendly because it is served without a tortilla) you will be positioned to make your first experience here complete. Together this combination of tacos will take you on a journey you won’t soon forget (and won’t want to end). While cheese may serve as your tour guide for each taco, that is exactly where the similarities end. The highlights we experienced with each taco ranged from the surprising texture of the crunchy outer tortilla/soft inner tortilla of the “Tacos de Birria Con Nervio”, to the slow burn of the “Chupacabras” (wait for it! 🥵), to the cheesy “Quesotaco” (is that a taco or an omelette?), to the unbelievable consommé that I’m pretty sure would make cardboard taste good (I caught Dana actually DRINKING it)! If you don’t like this place then you just don’t enjoy tacos. Am I right about that @onemoretacotv? You are my “Taco Consejero” and I trust your opinion on this more than most! Parking is quite limited, but if my new friend Ruben (“Go Padres!” 😉) is at his post when you arrive he’ll be sure to quickly direct you to the nearest available spot. While getting me here was no problem, getting me to leave really was! And that’s…Henry’s Take. #sandiegotacoseries

This place is a 10/10 for me. Service is always so friendly, so welcoming and it feels like I’ve known them forever each time I come. I’ve been helped by Araceli, Jorge, Angel, and Adelina and they are all super sweet, super respectful and always very attentive. The food itself is sooooo delicious. It’s always super flavorful, the portions are really good and overall it’s a fast experience. I 1000000% recommend this place for the service, the food, and the cleanliness.

The food and service are amazing! Definitely #1 Birria spot! Upon arrival the cashiers are able to fully describe each dish and assist in helping us choose. This was our first time and we will definitely be returning and bringing our guests. Also, come early there is a consistent line. All worth it.

A line is a good sign. Line moved quickly and ordering went fast. The menu is difficult if you don't speak Spanish. Also seating was fast and food came fast. We got birra tacos tostada and two quesadillas. All were good. Be sure to order the consume since it doesn't come with. All good was excellent and far less greasy than other birria I have had. Would definitely come again!

This place is amazing !! Specially for breakfast! My husband and I enjoyed the chilaquiles , the eg tacos and quesabirria tacos. The cafe de olla is delicious ! We will continue to enjoy this delicious BIRRIA. Also the owner and staff were super friendly and attentive and even came and offered us some free frijoles tacos but we were so stuffed and enjoying our amazing food!

Flavor is OK, but the prices are outrageous because everything is an add-on. A small consomé is 3 bucks, if you want the tortilla smothered in red sauce it’s an additional 75cents per taco, drinks are 3 bucks for small Tang Jamaica and it’s the only drink available.

Had the beef Birria and it was as meaty and tasty as all reviews claimed. Can't wait to try their tacos. Got my takeout food in less than 10 minutes. Friendly help but very tight parking.

Wow... excellent delicious tacos. now this is home cooking at its best. ok... Food is very reasonably priced, just be careful with coffee (4.5) and flan (very small portion 4.10). Be prepared to eat in your car. the food and service won me over.

Best birria tacos we have ever had. I knew it would be a good place based on how busy it was but was blown away by how great the food was! Definitely want to return if we are ever in the area again!

I had heard so much about the food and was so.thrillled to eat here. The service was good and polite. However, the food lacked taste, condiments. Being able to cross to TJ to eat birria often and then eating it here in SD it was obviously not going to match my expectations. I did see many many people eating and enjoying their food. Maybe because I know what birria real taste like that it is hard to appreciate this one. And If you have never had real.birria well you would be delighted with this.

Great Birria and you can't beat the price. Definitely will be back when I'm back in San Diego. Dining area is closed but there is a park nearby.

First time here and not impressed. I tried ordering over the phone before I headed there and the line was always busy. I decided to go and order in perdón. They had 2 lines , one for phone orders wich was short and regular line really long. I kept trying calling while I was in the regular line , finally they answered and I was able to order. It was much faster than what I thought, changed lines and was able to get out of there faster than the people standing ahead of me on the regular line. We purchased 3 large orders of birria. We usually go to 664 birrieria, so compared to what we usually purchase,Fernadez was short on meat on the orders and much more expensive. I can finally say I have tasted the birreria Ferrnandez that many friends recommend but Would not go back .not the greatest taste. And no it doesn't are like birria from Tijuana.

This is the spot. Hand made tortillas from some quality massa. The consume, or dipping sauce, was so good. After we dipped our birria tacos in it we drank the rest of the consume. It's a sickness and a hangover cure, felt amazing afterwards. I liked the tacos that aren't fried i thought the tortilla had a better flavor.

Birria was so good and flavorful that I didn't even get a chance to take a picture, I devoured everything quick... I highly recommend it , it's worth the wait .

Run, do not walk to this restaurant for some delicious birria tacos and consumè. Meaty tacos that don’t skimp on the birria. Great customer service that takes the time to explain the menu for first timers. Came on a Wednesday around noon. Had my food within 10 minutes. No line. If only I lived in San Diego
