If you consider yourself a beach person and you plan on visiting Zanzibar, Mtende Beach definitely needs to be added to your list. I’ve gone through everything you need to know before visiting Mtende beach in this blog post, that way you can have the best visit possible. The main section of the beach is situated between two rock formations, in a big cove. It’s absolutely stunning, and one of the coolest places to watch the tides change on the island.

The beach, situated between massive rocks, is a sight to behold. The best time to visit is during low tide when the beach area expands. During high tide, it's perfect for swimming. From an elevated viewpoint, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the beach. The colors of the beach are simply breathtaking when the sun shines upon it.

Compare to the distance and the natural landscape, it ia just so so. The price is 2000shilling. The place is not too big, the high tie comes really early, start around 11am. The distance is far, from town to beach around 1.5 hour. In August, please go before 11am, after 11 o'clock, is becoming high tie, around 1 or 1:30pm, the water will cover all the beach. If possible, please go around 10 am, so that you can enjoy both beach and water, stay until 13:30 or 14:00. If you want to go by local transport, you can go to FUONI first, find a daladala to go MAKUNDUCHI, price is 2500shilling, when is nearby the petrol station, please drop off and take a motorcycle, no daladala go to Mtende Beach. Motor cycle price price to the beach is around 3000shilling. When I ask someone in the daladala, one of the residents in the Same daladala tell me he is live there, he can take me here, only 5000shilling, other people must 7000shilling. As I check in the map if walk here needs 1.5 hour, so i trust this lier. When I come back, is really early as is already high tie, no Beach can enjoy, I decide to walk outside. In this time, the lier appear, he knows I decide to walk, he tell me 3000shilling, i refuse, he say 2000 also ok. I feel too much discussing about him.

Make sure you check the tide before you arrive. If you get there at high tide then there isn’t a beach. During low tide it’s a great beach to relax on, check out the rock, visit the bar down the beach and just enjoy a peaceful day. Not any tourist at all when we were there. It’s not in the main stretch of beaches and you need to taxi or drive a scooter like we did to get there.

Beautiful beach! You have to pay acces to the beach. Check level of water before you go there. Restaurant available and little shop with souvenirs.

Very nice place. Not at high tide when the beach nearly disappears. Ask in advance the water level but do not miss this place to visit. There is a romantic restaurant on the rocks with a beautiful view of the ocean.

Grab a taxi and get there! The water is warm, clear and you’re nearly alone there. Just remember that this beach is only existing at low tide - the ground is always wet and therefore it’s not too nice to lay down (your towel will be completely soaked). Afterwards definitely check out the restaurant built on the rock! (I did a separate review for it)

A remote and not too crowded place worth visiting while discovering the southern part of the island. Take your time and enjoy fresh lobster in “Usumba Rock” restaurant. Prices are still low and people working there are really friendly.

My personally favorite spot in the Zanzibar. Entrance fee is 1$ but it totally worth it. Road towards it leads through the jungle and small green town which is already really nice view after everything we saw in Zanzibar but afterwards you will be even more shocked. Beach is amazing during low tide sand is gorgeous, with small caves you can go into on every side and if you are looking for something more there are two restaurants: one on the cliff near entrance other stylized as "the rock" on the beach. This one is must see if you visit Zanzibar.

Beautiful remote beach with no people selling you things every five meters! Really peaceful. The only things to note is that the water is very shallow (so more for chilling rather than swimming), there were a lot of small crabs and also that you have to pay 2k tzs /person to enter the national park, so bring beach shoes and cash :)

Felt like discovering a secret beach hidden from all beach boys. Very peaceful place with a beautiful scenery. In the morning, you can also see fisherman and villagers dividing the daily catch.

The most beautiful beach I've ever seen. $1 entry. As soon as you enter you're greeted with the most beautiful water and sand. Super quiet even in the middle of the day. Couldn't believe it considering how gorgeous it is. And the best part - no pushy sales people like you get elsewhere on the island.

Lovely place! Its a bit out of the way of regular tourists! You can see how the locals soften the coconuts for rope production with the high and low tides! (The black circles in the photos) i loved being there during low tide but i bet its super pretty in high tide too!

Gorgeous beach. If you time it right you can be in the beach and observe as the beach gives way to a beautiful lagoon. Simply lovely. A little off the beaten path but easily accessible by scooter.

Personally, this was the most beautiful place and beach on the whole island. We very much loved it and we even wanted to go back to it. We went there when it was the beginning of high tide, and it was so so stunning!

Beautiful beach in the south of the island. We've been there between 11-12 AM and it wasn't crowded. The entrance fee is like 1$ pp.

One of the most breathtaking places in Zanzibar. Make sure that you spend some time at the beach that allows for a nice walk with low tide and swimming with high tide. Make sure you checkout the Eden Rock restaurant. I recommend that you have a beer or eat (food is great) while the tide changes.

What a beautiful beach! Definitely a must see when you are in the area. Not any tourist at all when we were there. At high tide, the water level can rise up to 3 meters and the beach disappears. Magical place.

Best place to chill 😎. You can enjoy sun set 🌞 clearly while relax on the beach traditional bed. This place is building on the rock of the reef 🪨. It is situated at the south end of the Zanzibar. You will enjoy the natural forest at the reef. It is amazing blue 🔵 of the sea and green 💚 of the natural forest. It is far away from the local people. Only forest and sea . Very calm. Sometimes you can experience the dolphin 🐬 play with wave 🌊 while you are chilling. Wow amazing place

If you have time to go have a look, its a nice ride there and the vast dry area in low tide is worth while. But dont expect much, there is no crowd there. There is a restaurant there that serves food. They dont have alot of options. Close by there is a Baobab Cafe, but i haven't been there

Nice beach, we arrived at high tide, and the color of water was amazing. In low tide you can walk on the beach. Restaurant nearby is very good but expensive. Anyway, it is worth it for the view it offers!

A really beautiful white coral beach in the south of the island. Check the tides before going :) to see the perfect scenery. Away from the most touristic places, you can reach this extreme south if Zanzibar by car or by motorbike and across several traditional local villages surrounded from a lot of majestic Baobabs, Mango trees🌳and Banana plantations. The villagers are friendly and they don't let you pass through the village without to say a "Jambo" ( "Hi" in swahili language). I recommend a visit there🤩
