Gym is clean, equipment is decent, staff is consistently nice…. But I really really wish that the pool and sauna were working. I’ve been going to this gym for over a year waiting for these amenities. It’s super unfortunate that this location is the most convenient for me but I’m having to look elsewhere to find a gym that actually has these available. There are a multitude of reviews here and members asking in person for this to be fixed. I don’t understand why nothing is being done or at least communicated regarding this. All we get is yellow chains and locked doors blocking access to amenities that are part of our memberships.

The sign is advertised open at 4am mon-fri. You have numerous clients showing up at or before 4am to come and work out yet your own employee can't show up to work at 4am. This is unacceptable. You need to replace the lazy employees who constantly show up late in the mornings with someone reliable. Some people only have a limited amount of time to get their work out in and when the gym opens late it throws off their whole schedule. Some people pay a lot monthly to use the gym. This isn't the only time this has happened. I have showed up at 4 am on 3-4 other occasions and the gym wasn't open because the employee was running late. You need to get this sorted out Golds Gym.

It's so much better with the renovations! Cant wait for the expanded weight area and new equipment. I love that they converted the women's "mini gym" into more space for the kids. Edit: this place is doing a good job with upkeeping the new normal during the pandemic. Safe place to get swole if you didn't get your own home gym during the panic buying.

I love this gym itself. But absolutely everyone who works here (at least the front desk) is extremely rude. I’m asking the lady at the front desk a question and she barely answers, and blows me off. I go to a different golds location and they joked that the live oak location is the “red headed” step child. And that they even hate just having to call over/cover the live oak location since the people who work there are rude. Pretty sad when they even have other locations complaining about them.

Tried to cancel my service online before a PCS website did not allow it. Called to cancel my service and they did not allow it. Finally went in to the location during covid to cancel my membership and got in canceled 5 days after I was just billed. Was told that I would have access throughout the month but was billed once again because I didn't cancel 30 days from my bill date. When I called to resolve this was told there is nothing they can do and they would not prorate me or try and help in anyway even though there is not a Gold's Gym within 80 miles of me. Leah Ortega and the entire Gold's Gym customer service team has horrible customer service and no regard for military members or people during this time of Covid.

This gym needs some work or relocation. Three of the ellipticals at the top do not work. Are y’all testing and replacing them ? The GGX gym has caution tape around an area. Y’all need to find a better place to have staff meetings or have them before or after hours because it was in the GGX gym and I wasn’t able to finish my workout. The gym is where I and others come to reach goals, so when the actual staff are getting in the way of that then it becomes a problem.

I've been frequenting this particular Gold's Gym since it opened up and have cancelled and renewed my membership a couple of times now. But this last time I joined back up, I learned that they now have "Recurring Annual Fee" of $49.00(w/o taxes) on top of your monthly membership dues. For what benefit or reason to why they started this "Recurring $49.00 Annual Fee" is beyond me! Additionally, when you do decide to cancel your membership, you have to wait a whole month/payment period before it actually takes effect! Just a fore warning to read the small print and know what you're getting into. Any gym should be thankful for your business during this pandemic and shouldn't be charging you more than your standard monthly dues/fees.

I've been a member here since shortly after they oepned...I've been able to obtain my fitness goals in large part to the les mills programs they offer and the wonderful instructors that teach the programs. Although the recent within 4 year remodel that was done took out the basketball court that my son's used I am pleasantly surprised with the use of space they have. I was disappointed when the swimming pool was shut down post covid because the aqua fitness classes were a nice option, but most of the location closed them. This location is on my weekly rotation of golds gyms.

If you have any issues with golds gym specifically related to billing the team refers you to a manager “Leah Ortega” who does not have any customer services skills let alone management skills! She will not help with resolution nor follow up with resolution when necessary! I have been treated unfairly by this company and more specifically by this “manager”!! Extremely unhappy experience!

I like my gym all in all but customer service is everything but a female manager in the mornings and weekends always has a sour face and additude to boot. Clean gym though!!! Very!. And other staff is nice

Patricia at the front desk was extremely rude and very unhelpful. I’ve been going to this gym for about 3 years now and have never had someone be so rude! She should not be working in customer service if she doesn’t like to work with people.

I will preface this review by saying they have excellent exercise classes with amazing instructors, but this is where the praise ends. The equipment is outdated and constantly in need of repair. Also, never leave your belongings in the locker room. Though the lockers look fine, not one is secure. Even if you have a lock on the door, all it takes is for someone to turn the lock and the door will open. I found this out the hard way with someone breaking into my locker and stealing cash and a credit card. Management does not care about this. I made several attempts to report the theft and all I got was a manger would contact me but never did. Just a little effort and this could be a great location.

Poor management, staff and communication. Would advise any military, and veterans to stay far away. Trufit, planet fitness, basically anywhere else would be a better situation.

Gym wasn't bad. A bit packed, but my biggest problem is that I canceled my gym for a 24 hour gym months ago. I just realized they are still charging my card for a membership.

Newly renovated with more equipment. The locker rooms are finally getting the lockers repaired. I'd be happy if they could get an extra water fountain on the floor with cold water.

The gym is decent its a bit small though. They have a "crossfit" section but charge you extra to use it. You can't even use it when there is no classes going on. They also require you to come in during a pandemic to cancel your membership. And make sure you cancel it before the 1st of the month because they will charge you even for 1 day. And don't forget if you cancel they throw in the annual fee of like 50bucks. So long story short I will never return to this gym and will inform people of their shady policies. This gym is honestly a scam in my opinion so stay away from it.

Think TWICE before signing the membership with Gold’s Gym. I was a ”valued customer” since 2017, and when requested to cancel a membership and close the account, still kept getting charged for the next 4 months (!!!) because my other family member didn’t request a cancellation himself even though I was a head of an account and I got charged for both of us. They are super tricky and trying to charge you as much as they can before you leave!!!! Horrible management, rules and customer service. Never ever in my life any of my family members will be coming back to the Gold’s Gym. 0 STARS.

No one here wears a mask at all. No enforcement exist on the staff part. Covid hot spot. Will file complaint to golds gym corporate for lack of Covid enforcement. Will report to Bexar county for Covid violations

It’s an alright gym. The circumstances regarding COVID has made it difficult to get a machine since they are socially distancing causing a crowded gym. Most of the staff is very kind and helpful but there is one woman (in her 50s) who has a terrible attitude and it makes it very difficult to speak to her. Other than that it’s alright for $35 a month.

A lot less crowded than the one on guilbeau, swimming pool is outdoors, follows quality protocol. Unfortunately no sauna, or court access. Make sure to sanitize after use!

  • 5/5 Jeff B. 9 months ago on Google
Great gym with all of the equipment you could ask for: tons of free weight, 6+ benches, 5 squat racks, tons of room to do bodyweight and barbell exercises. Kareem and the rest of the staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome! Highly recommend, leagues ahead of other gyms in the area.

This specific location does not enforce their members to wear their mask. Walked in and saw like half the gym not even having a mask on their face as a chin guard.

I have been a member here since 2018. The group classes are great. It’s a a nice and clean gym. The management is good too. The only negative is that thieves break into cars here so take your valuables and lock your car!

I really enjoy this gym. Plenty of equipment and the locker rooms are huge. I've been using gym memberships for about 20 years, and I don't think I've ever had so many employees ask me how is my experience here, since moving to San Antonio. I recently purchased some training packages with Mitchell, the personal trainer, and I really appreciate his level of service and attention to detail. My only complaint is the sauna is closed but thats not their fault...its due to covid restrictions. Thanks again fora great experience!

Hardly anyone is wearing masks and staff does nothing about it. Even when the issue is brought to staffs’ attention they do nothing. They ‘clean’ the gym between 1-2 daily but there is no point when no one wears masks.

Beware! Covid-19 sympathetic...forget it! Charged for May's entirety even though it opened on the 18th. Teens and young adults be careful reading cancellation terms. Try and close your account online, good luck trying to find a link. Relative tried with good effort to close account in person but building closed and was given link. Access to account would not take and was noted by staff at Bandera & Culebra locations site was down for several months and still having problems. BBB complaint submitted no answer from Gold's Gym. Monthly late charges accrued. In person to resolve issue this past week but still had to pay for 1 month of non use. Ask yourself; is this the way you as a customer should be treated or find another gym? Run don't walk away from these business practices. Class action lawsuits from thousands of members nationwide is in order due to fee charges for May monthly dues paid even though members could not access the gym.

The past week( today is 11/8/20) the place smells like sewage! Gets worse in the men’s bathroom. I asked an employee about it and he said “ we brought it up to the maintenance man but I don’t know”. A lot of people aren’t going and they don’t seem too bothered by it. I’m sure it’s not good to be breathing in that stuff

  • 1/5 isaac w. 4 months ago on Google
Why have you given up on the pool and sauna when your members pay for it? Why not just fix it and keep it maintained? Why beat around the bush about it? Why not be transparent?

I just edited this post from a Two Star review to a Five Star. Why? In short, I wanted to add Spin to my membership. Justice Price, not only added to the membership he saved me money too. But that's a very small portion of the WHY. The major portion of the review increase is that he provided a level of customer service that I had never associated with Gold's. For decades since about 80...Gold's has always been horrible with customer service. If this Customer Service is what's to come, I'll stick with Gold's! No home gym for me. Gold's will be an extended part of my home!

Very Disappointed in not just this location but Golds Gym as a whole, I've been out of the gym for a couple of years and wanted my son to play in the kids area. We 3 days after signing up this employee was extremely rude to be because she thought I was 28 mins late even though I was not but on top of that I was never told there was a 2 he maximum. As a single father of a homeschool child I was hoping he could play for the 3 to 5 years as I worked out but nope! Not happy, the lady in the kids club needs to learn how to treat Members.

I started coming to Golds Gym on Culebra near 1604 after a friend provided a guest pass. I did not know what to expect but am glad I chose to try the gym out. One of the best things about the gym is that it has generally clean equipment and friendly staff. No matter who is at the front desk, the staff always greet folks properly and are always friendly. The staff is always going around and cleaning the equipment. They seem to care about the people and taking good care of the equipment. Equipment: I also enjoy using the deadlift trap bar which offers the opportunity to use that over the straight bar. I also like the bumper plates that you can use for cleans etc. On another note, I especially love how the staff made the signing up process super easy. NO HASSLES and NO ISSUES. In the past, I have experienced pushy staff that try to sell you on different things. I also recommend the Golds Fit classes with Coach James. He is a good coach and focuses on form. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the sauna and the lack of mats for stretching. There is an open space used for stretching but can benefit from mats...otherwise 5 stars.
