Below was an email that I sent back I December. No reply was ever given to this As stated in the email, a lovely meal let down by the treatment of my 85 year old Granny. To whom it may concern, I am emailing regarding this booking for the meal that we had with yourselves about 3 weeks ago. I didn't want to post a public review, and we're not looking for any sort of compensation, but we felt the need to let you know how we felt. 10 of us came here for a meal 3 weeks ago. I had prebooked this as a set menu. We have to say that the food and surroundings were gorgeous, but our meal was let down by how the staff and management dealt with an incident involving my 85 year old granny. While she was leaving the bathroom, a heavy sign that has been placed against the wall, and not properly fixed (apparently due to redecoration) fell on her leg and bruised her. Very little effort was made by the staff to make sure that she was okay before returning to her seat with my sister. We were unhappy with this, and brought it up again at the Reception when paying for our meal, and again, there was no empathy shown by staff or manager. They simply stated that they had asked if she was okay when it hit her. (They did not) While the food was lovely, we were never offered the tea or coffee that came with our meal, and the โ‚ฌ100 deposit that I had paid did not appear on our bill, so this had to be dealt with as well. A lovely meal unfortunately let down.

Location was great; easy to walk to everything we wanted to see. The room was clean and had all we needed. Like all other hotels in Ireland, there is no air conditioning in the room, but the fan provided in the room helped a bit on what was probably an unusually warm summer evening. Breakfast was very good, too. The hotel bar was nice, with live music in the evening, too. Just be aware that if your room is facing the road and your window is open, it could be noisy at night due to surrounding bars/pubs. We would definitely stay here again!

The Kilkenny Hibernian is a top notch hotel in an excellent location. The room for a family had a pull out sofa bed and cot in one room and a separate space (with doors) with a large bed for the parents - very spacious. Staff was helpful. Everything was tip top. Also, the bar/restaurant attached to the hotel was quite cozy and had excellent food/drink + a live band in the evening. A nice addition to the hotel!

I wish we went to Kilkenny sooner on our trip! The Hibernian Hotel was one of the nicest hotels on our trip. Gorgeous, spacious rooms, helpful staff, very good breakfast, and outstanding bar with music. My only gripe is the weather was so hot for weeks that we needed the windows open at night, and the hotel is in a busy location, so it was crazy noisy until 0400 from people on the street. But don't let that dissuade you, this hotel is unbeatable in Kilkenny

Had a very pleasant stay in your lovely hotel. We arrived early so we left our bags at reception and went for a walk , after a short while the receptionist rang us to tell us we could come back early as the room was ready which we thought was a lovely gesture. The room was lovely, tidy and very comfortable..The food in the Brasserie restaurant was very tasty ..the staff was so attentive and friendly . This was our first trip to Kilkenny and the bad weather couldn't even take away our enjoyment of shopping or our strolls through the streets . We will be definitely returning to your hotel again ..Thank you to the lovely pleasant staff of your hotel for such a lovely stay .

Absolutely WONDERFUL experience! You can't beat the location of the Hibernian - right in the middle of everything with easy walking access to all the main sights. We stayed in the Berkely Suite - what a fabulous room! The ensuite bathroom was all marble and the wood paneling in the bedroom made me feel like I was in a Ralph Lauren showroom. Above all though, the service at the hotel was exceptional. Brendan in reception went above and beyond to make our stay great, and everyone at the restaurant and bar were always friendly. While parking is not "onsite," the recommended public garage is just steps away, safe, and was very easy to find. I would highly recommend the Hibernian and would absolutely stay here again.

We had a lovely stay in the Hibernian Hotel. The interconnecting family room was perfect for us and our two small children, and very tastefully decorated. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had both evening meal and breakfast, both were delicious, and the location is perfect. We will definitely return and would highly recommend.

Bosco the waiter was Exceptional! So friendly and chatty. When asked If he liked hospitality he was soo pleasant and enthusiastic to say how much he enjoyed talking to guests. Top quality service and would come back again just to be served by him and have a chat.

Great central location in the heart of Kilkenny town. We had a fabulous lunch in the restaurant it was so nice we booked the restaurant again for our evening meal and we weren't disappointed. Live music from 8.30 in the bar was great too. Breakfast was a treat, with a healthy smoothy and continental breakfast served first and then a choice from the usual cereal to full irish. We will definitely stay here again.

We visited the bar, by far the very best one in Kilkenny! Service as well as the music and especially the sound system were fantastic! Waiters are always making sure you're okay and the Atmosphere is just fantastic.. love this place, will miss this place.

Very rude bar manager.Friendly staff make a good bar.Very condescending and apportioning blame on others for not having more than one Moretti glass.A totally unprofessional bar manager who kept calling me 'lad'.Needs to be spoken to regarding the poor way he treated my friend and I.Because I wasn't happy with his behaviour he called the bouncer and said 'get rid of him'.No aggression shown by either of us. Embarrassing to be asked to leave because I didn't want my third pint in the same glass after accepting the second pint in it.He was totally out of order and no way apologetic.Obviously will not frequent the bar again and I regularly went there from 2016 to 2020.

When we arrived in Kilkenny, we knew our first stop would be the hotel to drop our bags (since we were well early before check in time). When we approached the hotel, we realized that it was centrally located and very nice without being overly fancy or too expensive. After our Castle tour, we returned to the hotel to check in and again (in Kilkenny) the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was facing the side street and was overall very clean and nice. It was on the 1st floor but in the states, it would be considered the 2nd floor as the actual first floor is called the "ground floor". This meant unfortunately when people were seated below us at the restaurant patio outside, sometimes their cigarette smoke would waft into our room. It wasn't so bad but the street noise was problematic... Even though we went to bed after 10pm and we only stayed one night on a Sunday night, the music from the Left Bank was so loud that we had trouble sleeping, even after closing the windows. Had it not been for these two aspects, we would have really loved the hotel room and found that it was clean and comfortable. We had some bottled (non-plastic) waters in the room, and iron, hair dryer, comfortable beds, etc. The hotel bar (The Brasserie) was also advertising live music, so we checked that out too. It was very nice inside but the music wasn't quite loud enough for us to fully enjoy so we called it quits after a round of drinks. For more recommendations and tips from our Ireland trip... We had the bottomless brunch on Saturday in the brasserie and it was a great experience! The food was lovely and the prosecco was topped up every time you took a sip so really got your monies worth. It was a right laugh and i would definitely recommend it ๐Ÿ‘Œ

You cannot get a better location. This hotel is nice. Located in the middle of several pubs. Rooms are clean and spacious. Restaurant service is fast and enjoyable

The location of this hotel was excellent. The restaurant was great and the rooms were very clean and well appointed. Unfortunately, our room had a window to the street below and the noise level was a bit loud. Also, we stayed in September and the weather was very unusually warm (Low 80s!) so, without air conditioning, the heat made sleep difficult, even with fans. It's our understanding that many hotels in Ireland do not have air conditioning so we can't fault the hotel overall for the weather. The staff was friendly, check in/check out was nice, a car park was just down the block...Overall we would stay again (in more moderate temperature season) when the weather is more comfortable.

Lovely hotel, we had a huge room and comfy big bed . It was clean and well decorated . The only reason I didnโ€™t give 5 start is that it wasnโ€™t very quiet during the night and early morning and also there wasnโ€™t any single use flip flops . The breakfast was very good !!! We had dinner in the restaurant and it was fantastic as well! Recommend the beef medallions!!! The staff were very friendly!! Our waiter Bosko was great !!!

We had lunch in the Hibernian restaurant today and I have to say overall it was a really disappointing experience. The service was dreadful, we were left unattended for long periods of time. We even had to request that our table be cleared. Very poor service. To add insult to injury, one of the group found a hair in their dessert. How the staff managed this was absolutely awful. The manager challenged it, questioning where the hair came from! All in all, very disappointing ๐Ÿ˜”

I went here for a lunch time treat for my birthday. Was very impressed. The receptionist on duty was Kristin and she could not have been more helpful. I had a voucher and she treated me with such kindness and was very friendly. I would highly recommend the restaurant and the staff are lovely. Thank you.

We have been calling into the Hibernian for many years. Absolutely loved the food, staff and service. Not this time. We will never be back. Extremely disappointed on all fronts. First pint of Guinness was definately slops. I was born into the pub business, I know that smell. The first course was fine but couldnโ€™t get service for desert/coffee. When we complained they took the price of the pint of Guinness of the bill but only realised when we had left that they charged us for a full bottle of wine instead of a glass!! Needless to say we went back. So so disappointed. ๐Ÿ™

Good location and bar but that is about it. We paid โ‚ฌ170 for the smallest hotel room I have ever seen. The double bed barely fit so we had to make turns moving around. I could hear what sounded like gears or mechanism pound into place throughout the night. Perhaps the lift? Additional parking cost across the street was not a great experience, ideally hotel guests' parking should be compted. Staff were friendly but I'd rather stay some ways out of town center if this is the norm. This is a 3 star hotel at best, and a 1 night stay only.

Disappointing stay full of small niggles. Checked into what seemed like a beautifully appointed room. Turned out that attention to detail was completely lacking. There was no soap in the dispenser at the sink and almost no soap in the dispenser in the shower. The coffee machine also wasn't functional. 2 of the 3 were addressed when I reported them to reception when leaving for dinner. They shouldn't have been wrong in the first place and when I reported them it was frustrating to find that some rather than all of them resolved. WiFi wouldn't connect on any of my devices through any of the various log in options (e-mail or social networks) with error messages for each option. I ended up connecting my work laptop through my phone data which was less than optimal Later that night, an intermittent clunking noise kept me from falling asleep and I am not someone who normally struggles to do so . It seemed like some kind of air con or plumbing airlock noise and was extremely frustrating. After some time the night porter managed to find a way of allocating me another room despite initially saying he would be unable to do so as the receptionist had gone home. The second room though quieter (initially) was much much smaller in the older part of the hotel towards the front. As it was quieter I accepted it as I was only there for one night and my priority was getting to sleep - only to find that I was awoken at 5.30 the next morning by a very loud metal banging sound I assume that this was beer kegs from the large bar across the street being moved around by staff or a delivery man. Hardly the fault of the Hibernian Hotel but nonetheless the cherry on top of a disturbed and disappointing night. Breakfast the next morning was fresh and tasty and the hotel is well located.

This hotel is tired. The staff were fine and tried their best. Some of the things that were disappointing: The reception staff is still behind what looks like bulletproof glass, although it is probably a leftover Covid precaution. There were no accessible electrical outlets in our room. The ones near the bed were trapped behind the box spring mattress and unusable. There were some on the floor under a table. The hairdryer was screwed into a vanity drawer nowhere near a mirror. There were no facecloths. The parking garage was down the street and closed at midnight. I just made it. The music from the local bars and heavy bass lasted until about 2 am. It was very convenient to Kilkenny Castle and that was nice.

Reception and staff were friendly and breakfast was good. However the room is very old and not well kept. The shower curtain and bedsheets were stained with large brown spots. The water temperature was also extremely hot.

Wish they would post more photos of their rooms besides just the updated bed. Bathroom is not updated since the 90s. Very small shower. Vanity with all sorts of drawers but not face towels. Couldnโ€™t find the hair dryer. Was in the room where they told you to go up the elevator one floor turn right, go down and then back up a set of stairs to your room. Then have to go up stairs to get to the bathroom inside your room. The room needed a deeper clean, old hen party pen*s confetti was found.. No USB ports and very small tv off to the side. Was just not what I thought it would be after reading multiple reviews and looking at the website. The bed was nice but of course you donโ€™t use the bright pillows that showcase it. It is a old hotel, needs work. Staff was great. Breakfast was fast, but coffee was very weak. The bar was good for a drink. Didnโ€™t eat there but food looked good from afar.

Went for lunch in the Brasserie, very disappointed. Chips cooked in the same oil as the fish, really strong fish flavour. Asked for mash and veg instead, mash tasted really bad and when we sent it back the chef said it was fine. I would worry about his pallet if that's the case๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Went to the hibernian hotel for dinner at the weekend. Have been here before in the past. Nothing has changed and I mean that in a good way. The food was tasty and excellent but the chicken curry was a little pricey for what you got. The staff was friendly and courteous as always.
