This is a great museum and a great activity to do with your kids in Kilkenny. They have a Lego hunt activity for kids where they have to find Legos that are hidden somewhere in the museum. My son loved this. He spent a good few minutes looking around while we checked the different medieval objects in the museum. I recommend this even if you're not going with kids. Including the Lego hunt, it was fun 😂

A must see attraction in Kilkenny. John was amazing and the he makes the History of this town and region come alive with his knowledge and delivery. I was working around town that morning and taking picture in town and came upon him, and he invited us up for a tour and it was well worth it. Just Amazing!!!

I enjoyed learning the history of Kilkenny here. I really liked the 'scan as you go' audio devices with options to hear more information if desired. Outside was gorgeous, I love a good graveyard.

The guided tour through the city was the pick of my visit in Kilkenny. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. Listening to the city's story from him made me understand a lot of the city structure.

Thank you for the experience, we were numerous and loud, children from 4 till 12, everyone was excited. Some by lego hunting, some by the concept. It is rare the combination of welcoming staff and interactions like invitation to take photos in a grave.

Good place to get information on the local history. John was particularly helpful and gave very detailed and sometimes humorous descriptions. John went out of his way to make us feel welcome and tell us about the medieval mile walking tour. When I mentioned it was my birthday he was great and helped us chose a nice place to eat/drink/enjoy the atmosphere. I can heartily recommend.

With so many wonderful things to see and do in Kilkenny, we are so glad we stopped here at St. Mary's. We did a guided tour with John and the knowledge that he was able to impart on us whitin an hour made it worth every single euro. Add this stop to the top of your list!

Pretty interesting place ! It does not take too long to stroll through while listening to the audio guide. The staff there is really welcoming and friendly! Way less people than in the other area so that's a great point too.

It's not great. Might suit people who have never seen anything else from the middle ages before. Think I read that both high crosses are replicas, after that it's just a bunch of headstones and scrolls. Considering that the national museum in Dublin is free and full of very interesting pieces, paying 7.50 a head is a bit much for very little.

Absolutely AMAZING, totally worth the visit. The time and care that has been put into keeping the stories of those that once resided in Kilkenny is heartwarming. The staff was all very kind and friendly. The exhibits were amazing. Walking through the the old family Chapels gave me goosebumps. And we even ended up driving to Ahenny to see the the real Crosses because the exhibit was so inspiring. Will definitely be returning on my next holiday to Ireland!

John our tour guide was amazing. Like all Irishmen he explained the history of the area and made us laugh, a lot. It was fascinating and something you can only see in Kilkenny. Definitely put this place on your bucket list!

Don't be fooled from the entrance. Much more to see and worth the entry. Unfortunately the signage to align to the audio tour from your phone isn't obvious but it all works out.

A very nice museum of what a church used to be. Interesting history and nice things to see there. The lady at the entrance explains everything very well and is very friendly. The headphone set also works perfectly. We can highly recommend this museum if you are in Kilkenny.

Really great museum. Filled with medieval artefacts - all sorts. Nice and spacious, and good amount of text. Interactive audio tour included in the price. Also there are hidden lego figures to be found!

Visited on a Wednesday. A delightful presentation of an Irish/Norman Medevil church and life. Took the tour and our guide was delightful, full of stories, jokes and able to relate 13th century life with a modern day equivalent analogy. The museum uses all of its space to a maximum, to tell the stories of the church. From the graves found outside the gates, the double grave stones and the private chapels, each area tells more of the story. Would strongly recommend for any history buff or just someone walking through.

Took too long to find, we almost gave up. While the exhibit is interesting, wasn’t worth the cost.

Amazing renovated church turned museum. Very interesting with lots of stories attached to the history, well worth a visit if you're passing by. The staff are great and will want a chat. The audio device you receive is good as if you're not completely interested in something in particular you have the option of skipping it. Gift shop has a great number of good gifts at a reasonable price

Well worth a visit. 🏆☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ You can walk around yourself BUT l would highly recommend joining with a group tour. Our tour guide John Halpin was excellent - he is a local and knows his stuff. The location is very central. It is spotlessly clean. I was amazed that our American and other visitors hadn't found it. Get there before they do. Ask for the Tour Guide John Halpin and there is another man, Tommy, I think he is a groundsman but should also be a tour guide. They are knowledgeable, friendly and have lots of local history. you can read the fairy tales in the books in their bookshop. They also do concerts and weddings at the venue. Don't miss it - Share with your friends. I don't work for them or have any friends working there - I was just impressed with their museum.

We took the very informative tour of this museum. We opted for the audio tour given by a guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The tour lasted for an hour and practically flew by. We learned quite a bit of history of the area and how different events interrelated. Highly recommend this tour.

This tour was great! John, the tour guide, had a lot of great information, and you could really tell that he was passionate about the history in and outside the museum. He was willing to answer all questions and engaged with the tour group. The museum seems to be doing a lot to make sure that no history is lost. The museum is very informative and well put together.
