Extensive park in the heart of Kilkenny city. These are the grounds of Kilkenny Castle and there are plenty of interesting pathways, features and a playground. The park free and open to the public.

Kilkenny Castle is the star tourist attraction. The grounds are worth striding around gazing at this marvelous castle in such great shape inside and Out. We parked on the street and walked to the park. We enjoyed a nice meal in Downtown Kilkenny. The town is a great place for a stroll after a meal. Highly Recommended!

Wonderfully preserved, it was a lovely look into the past. We took the self guided tour and explored the entire castle. We were not aware you could rent headphone devices to here precanned messages about exhibits, so be aware that many of the signs are in Irish Gaelic with limited translation. Still thoroughly enjoyed the tour!

This park has been built around the Kilkenny castle which is located at one end of the park. Behind the castle there is a rose garden. Donโ€™t miss it. We also walked down the hill to river bank. There is a nice trail by river for walking and cycling.

One of several castles we visited during our trip to Ireland, but well appointed with some stunning parlors and hallways. The grounds were spacious though smaller than many.

Well worth a visit to Kilkenny Castle to learn about the history from its initial creation in the 12th century! Fascinating, and lovely grand rooms to wander through.

I had never been in a castle before so it was really interesting to me, I would have liked to seen some of the rooms that had not been restored yet. They had a small diner in the basement and the food was good.

One of the best tours of any historic place I've had. Mainly down to the guide, John.

Would highly recommend a visit to Kilkenny Castle. We took a guided tour. Tickets vary in price, with under 12s going free! The tour starts at the main door and takes you downstairs to one of the turrets with a wattle and daub roof. The guide pointed out the chisel marks which are visible after 100s of years! From here you head back upstairs to learn about some of the residents of the castle, including the last lord who sold the castle to the government for ยฃ50! From here you visit some of the formal entertaining rooms, which have been restored and furnished for the most part with original furniture. There is an original tea chest which the guide explained in great detail. We took a cantilevered staircase up to the top level to visit some bedrooms. The highlight of the tour for most is the enormous picture gallery. It's the second largest room in the country second only to Trinity college library. The roof is painted carved wood. The walls are covered with hundreds of paintings. Lots and lots to do at Kilkenny Castle ๐Ÿฐ

So beautiful, specially during this time of the year. The gardens are empty and offer many good opportunities for great pictures.

Lovely park next to Kilkenny city centre. Start at the castle and walk along the River Nore. Playground for kids. Outdoor coffee shop for adults. Rose garden is beautiful when in bloom.

An excellent opportunity to explore a truly historic site of significance with a self guided tour. An additional feature was the Ros tapestries on show, and commendable support from Guides Peter & Suzanne. Nothing was too much to ask

Beautiful castle, great tour with Kate but felt tour needed extra 15mins as blue corridor very rushed. Could charge slightly more and do less tours or on the half hour in peak season. But really loved it. Narrative was great.

Beautiful castle and grounds. Free to enter the ground and surrounding areas, but it costs โ‚ฌ10 to enter the castle. Don't forget to check out the rose garden in the back.

Wonderful restored rooms with interesting history. Make sure you watch the short video first to get the background to why this was an influential castle and family. Highlight for me was the picture gallery ceiling.

Beautiful castle, our tour guide was very lovely, friendly with a decent. sense of humour . We enjoyed the tour, the stories, the interior and the surrounding garden. Not the cheapest, but what is these days? No regrets at all. Outside the castle area we had some really tasty, oven baked pizza (I know it has nothing to do with the castle itself) but it's good to know you will have the opportunity to eat something nice nearby ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Did a self guided tour as you can wander round the castle and grounds at a pace you want to with out being stuck in a group of people. Lots of well maintained rooms and furniture to look at.

A beautiful medieval castle. For the most part, it is very similar to other medieval castles in Europe. One of the best features is the beautiful picture room. It is one of the most awesome castle rooms that we have seen.

The castle has a self guided tour thanks to 5he help of an app and QR code at several point through the visit. Although there are guided tour at fixed hours. There are lockers to store bags as is not possible to carry backpack and bags during the visit. Bar and facilities available. Well worth a visit of the castle and its garden

The Castle is very well maintained and touring thru the various rooms was really interesting. Though we opted for a self guided tour, the staff interacted with us a little at various points and answered questions that had popped up, which added so much to the tour without us having to keep pace with a group.

It is a beautiful place to take a stroll, surrounded by nature. Very clean and well maintained. The availability of dog waste bags is great, but bins along the route are missed. A must do when visiting Kilkenny.

Great outing to fill a couple of hours. Enjoy walking the beautiful tree lined paths and flowers. But definitely buy a ticket and take a walk back through history. Full price tickets were 8, and they have senior, student, and child discounts. Be aware that they will direct you to free lockers to place any bag you have with you as bags are not allowed in the castle. On your way out, stop off for a snack at their Cafรฉ. After you visit the castle, head directly across the street to the design center that only sells products produced in Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

A very beautiful castle in wonderful condition. Didn't take the tour, but would recommend it if you like spoken history. If the weather is nice, spend the day on the grounds for a picnic and pictures. The town is a great place to stay the day or night!

Amazing place to visit. The castle is beautiful and over looks the river below. The fields are filled with school children and have a positive vibe. Great place to take a walk and view the castle.

We have been touring all over Ireland for 18 days and on our way back to Dublin to the airport, we needed to find a 1_2 day distraction so we stopped into Kilkenny. Now we wish would have put that town on our overnight. The castle was really nice. We highly recommend!!!!

Didn't go inside as we have been before on previous trips. The building is beautiful. An old Irish man told me that the castle was so intact because the people surrendered every time they were attacked!!! The artifacts inside aren't original to the castle, although they are interesting. The previous owner sold off practically everything, apart from an old oak table that he couldn't get out, before selling the building and grounds to Kilkenny for one pound.

Lovely park and there is no entrance - fee, only if you'd like to visit the castle (museum). Nonetheless, Kilkenny is a beautiful place which you should visit one day if you're in Ireland as a tourist.

Old town Kilkenny is a wonderful area, filled with restaurants and, shops, and history. The Kilkenny Castle has been beautifully restored, containing period furniture and pictures of the grounds and the people over its many years.
