Saint Mary's Cathedral is a beautiful building and in the process of raising funds to improve and maintain it. The interior is beautiful and there is a very peaceful atmosphere that invites you to stay for a while. There is an altar dedicated to Saint Margaret Mary and under it is a wax figure of a 14 year old Saint Victoria Martyr and the chalice that contains her preserved blood sent by the Pope when the Cathedral was being built. The relics of Saints Cosmos and Damian are under the High Altar and the relic of Saint Clement was placed under Our Blessed Lady's Altar. Well worth a visit and take some time to appreciate it's beauty.

One of top places to go to in Kilkenny. There are already a lot of photos online to show it’s gorgeous design. In case you don’t know. There is a public web cam that gives you an opportunity to virtually visit the cathedral if you cannot visit in person. The web cam link can be found on the main page.

If you come to Kilkenny for only a day trip, this Roman Catholic Cathedral is one that you cannot miss, or you will be sorry. It is so ornate and beautiful that no words can describe. You just have to see it yourself.

If you visit Kilkenny you have to go. Really huge church with excellent details. Find your peace of mind there. Near to the city center by walking.

Beautiful cathedral whose tower dominates over the city. Well maintained as it has had some noticeable restoration work.

Too bad we were there off season so didn’t get the inside tour. The ruins are pretty cool and available to walk around even when the church is closed. History right in the middle of the lovely small town of Gowran.

This mid 19th Cent, Catholic cathedral, designed as Early English Gothic style, is situated on the highest point in Kilkenny City and is a significant local landmark. Impressive towering outside and beautiful (stained glass works and flooring) inside.

Beautiful Cathedral! High vaulted wooden ceilings - beautifully painted ceiling about the alter and stunning exterior. This cathedral towers over Kilkenny.

I was there for a funeral. Not really something I should be rating. Strange. In fairness the church is outstanding and the priest gave a lovely service and my friend had a good send off. Rip

The following review is based on a pre-pandemic trip going old school and only using paper maps and brochures to find places to stop at on a 3-week adventure to Ireland, Scotland, and England. No cell phone or internet. If you are in the area visiting the Kilkenny Castle and are into classic architecture, then this is a good stop to make that is a short walk from the castle. The design of the cathedral shows the evolution of church design from the flying buttress churches to stronger construction that did not need them,

This magnificent cathedral wowed me. Every nook and corner of this cathedral had an element of history that didn’t skip the eye. The stained glass windows, the original pre-reformation altar, the very many chapels and the graveyard were all worth taking a detailed look at. There is an entry fee of €5 and €3.50 for students.

This church is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ossory. This cathedral is also referred to as “St Mary’s”, “the church of St Kieran” and “the Cathedral of the Assumption”. It’s bells ring every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Ceilings are spectacular, moreover the organ space. I agree with previous impressions, the peaceful atmosphere you can enjoy it there.

This is St Mary's Cathedral which is close to the Black Abbey. The relics of St Victoria are housed here in a side Altar. Well worth a visit if not to pray just to see the icons. Very recently refurbished.

Beautiful place with beautiful stained glass windows. It’s the second biggest church in Ireland and if I understood correctly it was built during the famine as a way of making the people work for food.

Beautiful cathedral on the hills of Kilkenny! It’s a medium sized town that is definitely worth stopping in for at least a day and enjoying the quietness from the hustle and bustle of other cities!
