We
spent
5
days
at
Refugio.
First
the
positives:
the
rooms
were
clean
and
comfortable;
the
grounds
are
nicely
manicured;
the
pools
were
very
clean
and
warm
(at
least
I
enjoyed
it).
We
were
able
to
swim
laps
in
the
morning
and
spent
hours
on
the
water
playing
with
the
kids.
Lots
of
hammocks
gave
it
a
nice,
relaxed
vibe.
The
lagoon
is
shallow,
with
clear,
warm
waters
and
lots
of
fish,
pelicans
and
other
birds
to
watch.
There
was
a
family
of
lizards,
they
fed
in
the
mornings,
and
hung
out
near
the
lagoon,
plus
a
cat
and
bats
in
the
evening.
We
swam
in
the
lagoon
and
took
a
boat
to
the
other
side
to
see
the
ocean.
The
resort
was
small,
but
our
intergenerational
family
of
9,
had
plenty
of
space
to
lounge
and
come
together.
We
played
board
games
(ask
for
them
at
the
front
desk)
in
the
evenings
and
enjoyed
the
music
videos
they
played
in
the
background.
Now
the
negative:
Restaurant
service
is
subpar.
Many
of
the
waitstaff
seemed
annoyed
to
be
there;
they
were
constantly
out
of
items
on
their
menu,
prices
are
high
and
they
took
an
inordinate
amount
of
time
to
bring
out
drinks
or
food.
We
learned
to
plan
around
the
incredibly
slow
service,
so
we'd
sit
down
to
order
well
in
advance
of
when
we
actually
wanted
to
eat
(and
then
some
of
us
would
get
back
to
swimming
or
shower
before
dinner
was
served).
They
were
unapologetic
about
the
slow
service
or
lack
of
food.
And
the
food
wasn't
very
flavorful.
It
was
disappointing
that
given
the
number
of
fisherman
on
the
lagoon,
they
didn't
offer
fresh
fish.
We
found
that
at
little
restaurants
in
Chocohuital
and
Pjijijapan.
No
fresh
juices
either,
which
again
I
love
having
when
I'm
in
Mexico.
And
there
were
not
many
other
guests
which
would
explain
the
slow
service.
A
shout
out
though,
to
the
pool
maintenance
guy.
He
was
very
nice
and
went
out
of
his
way
to
bring
us
shade
umbrellas
or
otherwise
accommodate
us
without
us
even
asking.
Plus
he
speaks
English,
which
I'm
sure
would
be
helpful
for
other
tourists.
Overall,
I
wouldn't
go
out
of
my
way
to
go
to
Refugio.
We
chose
it
because
it
was
the
only
resort
that
came
up
in
a
search
of
the
area.
We
were
traveling
around
the
state
and
wanted
to
spend
a
few
days
on
the
beach
and
without
knowing
much
about
the
area,
we
chose
Refugio.
Having
said
that,
I'd
say
overall
it
was
a
lovely
stay.
The
area
is
beautiful
and
the
facilities
are
nice.
The
kids
had
a
fun
time
and
well
worth
the
nightly
rate.
If
they
could
improve
their
service,
I
would
have
thoroughly
enjoyed
it.
