Cotswold Combat is a very welcoming club. The classes are very technically focussed with an optional rolling session afterwards. There is a good mix of age groups in the adult classes including a fair few of us in our 40s. It is refreshing to go to a bjj-only club where there is no competition for time with the mma classes. The mats are bright white and are kept very clean - which is a huge positive vs some of the other clubs Iā€™ve been to. I thoroughly recommend this club and Connor and Adam do a great job as coaches in breaking down the techniques and ensuring a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

What a fantastic place to practice BJJ! The beginners course is a great introduction to grappling, providing a solid foundation to build on. Since day one, everyone there has been incredibly welcoming in what can be an intimidating sport to first get into. Everyone is keen to help each other learn and grow together as a community. The tuition from the coaches is excellent! Well paced, explained and demonstrated. They're always on hand to help and make sure you never feel left behind or lost when trying to learn something new. All in all it's been a great place to start my BJJ journey. I just wish I would have done it sooner.

I searched for a clean gym, with a knowledgable teacher and a community who are happy to help you on your BJJ journey and I found it at Cotswold Combat. I only wish I had the time to go more often because I get a real buzz from it. If you arenā€™t sure, have a taster session for free and then you will be hooked!

My first introductory session was in July 2023 with the instructor Conor, He was friendly and informative and i was soon booked in for my month trial. Iā€˜ve enjoyed every session since and look forward to my 2 training session each week; learning new skills and having chat with the other members who are all so friendly and supportive in learning at a pace that suits.

Iā€™ve been training at Cotswold Combat since January, and im hooked! Classes are well structured, great fun, and the coaching is excellent. Particularly enjoy the Friday evening class- a great way to unwind from work and start the weekend.

Been training here for a month having started my BJJ journey at a different gym earlier in the year. The classes are small enough to get plenty of coaching from Connor and the other members are super friendly and helpful. Feel Iā€™ve made a lot of progress in a short amount of time and always look forward to the classes. Couldnā€™t recommend the gym enough, even convinced my girlfriend to join!

Cotswold Combat is a fantastic gym for anyone looking to learn Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors are knowledgeable and patient, and they create a welcoming environment for all skill levels. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the classes are challenging but fun. I highly recommend Cotswold Combat to anyone looking to improve their BJJ skills or just get a great workout.

I started at Cotswold Combat in November 2021 with a martial arts background but absolutely no grappling experience. Some 20 odd years ago, I suffered a very serious knee injury and so my initial worries when starting were whether: 1. I was too old (over 40) to be trying something new 2. Whether I'd be risking damaging my knee any further. My fears were completely unfounded so I thought I'd write about my experience in case anyone else is in a similar situation. The classes are good sizes and are made up of people all shapes, sizes and ages. I regularly train with people half my age and I never feel unsafe. Everything we do is controlled, and just as much emphasis is spent on keeping your partner safe as yourself. Despite my injury, in the past 18 months I can only think of maybe one position I couldn't do, and even then coach Connor was happy to show me an alternative. The other members are all terrific, and there's a real sense of camaraderie in the club. Everyone is really welcoming and are all equally eager to learn. In summary, I can't recommend the club and the coaches enough. I wish I started sooner. You're certainly never too old and I can certainly see myself (hopefully) still practising this longer than striking martial arts, which are lessĀ kneeĀ friendly!

Been loving the place ever since I first stepped foot in there! Perfectly delivered classes from Connor and his team, whilst receiving a warm and friendly environment from the rest of the class šŸ‘ŒšŸ» 10/10 šŸ‘šŸ»

After a year or so of training at Cotswold combat I canā€™t fault the organisation, level of training, team ethos and atmosphere. I have trained at two other jiu jitsu gyms and I have to say that CC is by far the gym where Iā€™ve had the most fun and felt most comfortable training. Pristine mats and facilities. Definitely worth a visit!

I started attending classes at Cotswold Combat when I moved to Cirencester last year for work. It was a new place, I didnā€™t know anyone locally, and wasnā€™t doing any other sports. I wanted to try something new that would help me meet new people. I'd certainly never done any form of martial arts before or really knew what Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) was. I did worry that I would not have the skills, not be strong enough and as a 60kg girl, not be able to keep up with the physical demands. However, Coach Connor offers a free 1-2-1 introductory session at the gym that lasted half an hour and I figured I had nothing to lose. Connor put my fears to rest and explained that BJJ teaches weaknesses in every type of body which makes it possible to take control of larger, stronger or faster opponents. More importantly I had a lot of fun! The introductory session was really useful and helped me feel confident enough to sign up for a beginnersā€™ course. It was a one-off payment for a set number of weeks, with evening classes made up of a small group of other complete beginners. These sessions were carefully tailored to the capabilities of each participant. They felt safe and well-paced with a lot of good humour. Nearly a year on and Iā€™m a regular member. There is something very rewarding in being able to send someone bigger and stronger than you to the mat. The coaches also put a lot of emphasis on how to respond safely to a move. This, alongside the excellent quality of the mats, provides a space for you to be confident that once you have sent someone to the mat they are going to get up again with a smile and in turn send you. There is huge emphasis put on safe training, especially working through injury recovery or other limitations. There are opportunities for more specific training and competing if that is something you are interested in. Connor encourages all of us with our goals, helps identify any limitations and advises accordingly. There are Gi-classes and No-Gi-classes, technical sessions and high intensity sessions with both morning and evening classes. In every group the fitness, skill and technique levels vary but the coaches look after you, everyone is friendly and it is a place I feel proud to be a part of.

I started the beginners course at Cotswold Combat in May this year and itā€™s one of the best decisions I have made. I was able to build confidence and get an insight into Brazilian jiu-jutsu. Once I started the Adult classes I was made to feel welcome by everyone. Connor and Adam are fantastic at breaking down techniques and taking time in making sure you understand the moves. I couldnā€™t recommend this club enough, if you want to learn Brazilian jiu-jutsu from great coaches and meet fantastic people you need to join this club.

Fantastic place. Very welcoming club & perfect for beginners. Connor is a brilliant coach who really cares about the development of every member of the club. Connor's a true professional and runs a tight ship! The club is always kept clean & is a great environment to train in. I joined as a complete beginner to BJJ and really like Connor's no-nonsense style of training. Very technique focused is all about understanding the basics! I've met a great bunch of people here and made some lasting connections. Would strongly recommend the beginners course for anyone looking to try it out!

Cotswold Combat is great club with a brilliant coach. It always has a positive learning atmosphere where no one is judged on their ability. I would highly recommend this club to anyone who is interested in starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Cotswolds Combat is a fantastic club. The facility is great and classes are well structured. Connor, the coach, is enthusiastic and breaks down the techniques easily to understand. There is a great camaraderie between all us students which is very welcoming to all. If youā€™re looking for a great sport for all ages that keeps the body and mind healthy you should try BJJ at Cotswolds Combat.

A very well organised academy that cares about every one of its students, especially beginners! Coach Connor has so much to teach and is particularly good with kids. Jiu Jitsu is such a good skill for anyone to learn and if you are around the Cirencester area this is the place to learn.

Iā€™m really loving Jiu Jitsu at Cotswold Combat Cirencester, If you want to learn new skills, improve your fitness and become much more confident then Jiu Jitsu at Cotswold Combat is for you. A really friendly club in the heart of Cirencester is more like a family they made to feel at home straight away. Why not give it a go.

Having been a member of Cotswold Combat for nearly a year, it has been great to see so much progression in both my JiuJitsu and confidence. The standard of coaching is excellent and it is easy to tell that Connor is extremely passionate about what he is teaching you. He is knowledgeable and is always happy to answer questions and help if you are stuck. I really couldn't recommend joining Cotswold Combat more. I'd never done any martial arts before, and the beginners programme builds a solid understanding of the foundations of BJJ before moving onto more advanced techniques. The new facility is very smart and well presented, with the bonus of being in a central location (with a big free car park next door!). Cotswold Combat offers a free trial class so there's nothing to lose by trying it out! I'm sure you'll love it.

Connor is a fantastic coach and the school is incredibly professional. Iā€™ve been training with Connor for a number of years, and I canā€™t say enough good things about his knowledge and understanding of the sport. Cotswold Combat is a very welcoming and friendly school, with fantastic students and a first class environment. Iā€™d 100% recommend to anyone wanting to get involved in the sport.

Coming to the end of my beginners introduction course now and have found this club to be extremely friendly, inclusive, encouraging and enthusiastic. It's nice environment with a focus on individual development in an interesting sport. I haven't felt any of the ego filled elbows out shoulder swagger or the fitness class vibe that can be associated with martial arts from these guys, just a willingness to share knowledge and progress everyone in BJJ at there own speed in a lade back easy to personalise schedule.
