👍👍 Nice place tucked away on High Street preston. The food talks for itself!! Well priced and great portion sizes. I will return and tell everyone!! ** just a side note** I noticed in other comments people complaining about the prices of the food and drinks... please remember we are in Melbourne, not... People often mention chicken, Ayam, Indonesian, sambal, good, ayam, fried, authentic, Penyet, price,

One star for the food taste, its hygiene and service is horrible. *Hygiene*: the waitress use her bare hand picking the food out from a container, placed on the plate, and then served the dishes. She touches cashier machine, pick up plates, receive money....and touch the food with the bare hand... Yuck... Yucky lettuce, all gone bad not fresh *Service*: forgot tempeh and Tofu in my $11.9 meal, forgot my $7.5 drink... they only have one person serving everything.. Food itself tastes nice but if you don't want to get sick..

Came here for dinner since we always crave for Indonesian food. The ayam penyet is spot on and the sambal just compliments everything with the right amount of spiciness. The satay is not the usual satay, but we loved it. Ayam bakar is also recommended. Service is good. Still getting into the idea that a robot delivers your food. The only downside is if you have a baby, there’s no change room. Ended up changing the diapers in the car! Overall a 7/10. Will be back.

I really would like to love this place but I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the food. The peanut sauce on the batagor was quite salty and the soto betawi was luke warm. I guess next time I just stick to their fried/bbq chicken+ rice packs to be safe.

The best indonesian restaurant by far in Melbourne. The sambal is definitely very authentic.could not fault the ayam grepek.Food served really fast ( and they have robot waiter to deliver the food ). Pricing is reasonable for food served. Everything is just perfect.. customer service is great, very friendly guy. Premises is really clean. Will be coming back. Foods in photo are: 1. Ayam Grepek ( the fried chicken, they include fried tofu, fried tempeh and sambal - its just heavenly ). Fyi, the sambal is quite spicy, but YUMMY. 2. Soto Ayam ( The chicken soup). 3.Chicken risoles. 4.The drink i cant remember the name ( its coke mix with condensed milk ) and the prepack called Teh kotak ( can never go wrong with this tea ).

Tasty food, nice restaurant but room for improvement. Their Ayam Penyet was cooked well and tasty. However, the chicken was a little small for a $12 price tag. Rice was not part of the price, and was also quite expensive I feel at $5+. There should be a set price at least which should land at about $15-$16. The Udang Penyet was pretty good too. The portion was quite good for that, 5 large prawns. The prawns were deveined and cooked to perfection. Excellent. The Soto Ayam was average. It was rather salty. We were reaching for the water after our meal so that was a giveaway. Also the portion was quite small, should be slightly bigger. Lastly, the Bandung was nice, though it could be slightly less sweet and definitely cheaper. $5.95 for a syrup drink is certainly too much. It’s more of a $3.50 price point. All in all it was good, but certainly should improve, especially their price points. Also, paying through Liven is accepted but there were no signs that indicated there. Heard it from another customer. Could have saved us a couple of dollars. Covid safe: Not everyone’s Vax Certs we’re checked, though it was indicated that it was a requirement of entry.

Been going here since 2021, so far this is the best Ayam Penyet Ria in Melbourne. Space is big, foods are (somehow) tastier than the other Ria’s, location is central and next to Indonesian grocery store Laguna, staffs are attentive. Pleasant place to eat in.

We walked past another time and saw many Indonesian diners, so came back to try for ourselves. We started with the Sate Ayam (chicken satay) with a soy marinate and crunchy peanut sauce. The signature Ayam Penyet (fried chicken) had wonderfully crispy, spiced crumbs that were addictive in their own right. The Iga Bakar (grilled beef ribs) was covered in a sweet soy glaze, pleasing the taste buds with its sweet and savoury pairing but a bit overcooked for my liking, making it a chewing exercise. The Cendol was edible but not memorable. Food was ordered via QR code and delivered by a robot, so human interaction was minimal. On a public holiday there were few people, so the place was really quiet. The rating considers Melbourne's competitive gastronomic scene and this was a relatively average experience.

Ate here on a Monday night with the family and was pleasantly surprised with the food and service. The stand outs were the whole fried fish and satay skewers. Unfortunately they must have run out of vegetables for the Gado Gado salad and we got a lot of steamed lettuce instead. The different types of chilli sambals were fantastic. It was also the first time we had a robot serve us out food. Will be back for sure.

ORDERED: The Penyat Pack ($20.50) This included: 🍚 Nasi (Jasmine rice), 🥣 Bakso (side of soup), 🌶 Sambal Terasi (Balacan chilli - spicy), 🍗 Ayam Penyet (Chicken) & 🧃 Teh Kotak (Sweet Jasmine tea) I paid $20.85 which included a card surcharge. REVIEW: Ayam Penyet Ria is a chain restaurant that spans across Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Branded as Indonesian street food, it delivery quantity at very reasonable prices. ♥ The best thing of the Penyat pack was the Ayam Penyet which is in their name. It hits everything you would want in fried chicken. Crispy, golden and incredibly moist. I would order this again! 🔁🍗 The sambal had the perfect amount of spice, making my mouth tingly. You may want to go for mild if you still want to enjoy the flavours of your food. 😢 There were a couple of flops though. Rice and salad were dry, with the latter feeling like it's been pre-cut and was sitting out for a while. Although you get to pick your side of soup and the pictures on the menu allude to a fully stocked soup (meatballs, wonton crisp), you end up with just the broth itself. Probably for the best because you've got a lot of food to finish, but unsure if the oiliness is intentional. 🤔

Visited this gem tonight. The best Indo restaurant I have had in Aus so far (I'm from Perth). The flavours are authentic. I had the Ayam soto...tastes just like home ❤️ satay, ayam penyet, batagor and my cousin had the iga bakar, sambal was spicy, exactly how it should be..all delicious! The rissoles was ok, but the martabak made up for it..was so fluffy and rich. The lady that served us was so lovely. Wish Perth had Indo Resto like this one!

Not the most authentic Indon food but the taste and flavours are close enough in the city. The green cili sauce and Sambal were definitely a hit to palate! Spicy but flavourful. Satay chicken is chicken on skewers that usually cooked on bbq fire as hawker food in Malaysia/ Indonesia/Singapore. Their peanut sauce is flooding on top of skewers instead of coming as a side dip. I like the peanut sauce more than the skewers.

Food was great, very tasty and felt authentic street food, presented well and well portioned. Side sauce was spicy and went well with the beef. Would come back without a doubt and recommend.

May always go to restaurant when it comes to authentic Indonesian food in Preston. Their ayam penyet is really good, freshly cooked and crispy when we have it there. Even takeaway, it is still good. Will recommend to everyone to come here and give a try!

Great flavours in a casual atmosphere. Loved the well balanced dishes; faves were the Soto ayam (tumeric chicken soup), iga bakar (charred beef ribs), Tahu tempeh (crispy tofu and tempeh- my vegan partner said was the best he's ever had!) and the chicken satay. Food came out quickly and was reasonably priced- will return.

Food taste good but a bit overpriced. The menu price is without rice and soup. Halal.

Tucked away amongst a bevvy is Vietnamese restaurants is this Indonesian gem. I can't fault the food or authentic Indonesian flavours. Things have changed since my original review in November '22. The restaurant has adopted a new menu which delivers better value for money. Rice is now included with most of the main meals and no longer charged separate. The menu is colourful and has great pictures of what is on offer and I'm pleased to advise the presentation of my meal matched the picture. The food is not the usual Dutch style Indonesian I grew up with and, based on hints in the food descriptions, I believe it might be Balinese style. I have an Indonesian friend from Jakarta who was not impressed but I'd suggest she had preconceived ideas of what to expect. Go in with an open mind and enjoy the complex flavours for what they are. The food is mighty good with just the right levels of spiciness and not dumbed down. Considering its location in Preston, it remains quite surprising and novel to find a robot 'waiter' delivering the food to your table.

Finally found authentic sambal in Melbourne. For me the ayam penyet is not marinated enough. And there is no my favourite mutton sate. Cendol is highly recommended. The environment is clean, the space is wide, the price is reasonable, friendly staff and cute robot.

Even if you don't agree with pricing, which arguably is slightly on the higher side (maybe), you will never say the food is not delicious. We had the gado gado, ayam penyet set, and ayam bakar. The chicken dishes were packed with flavour, the sambal chilli provided adds to the experience, and I'd happily go back for another meal. The gado gado falls in the it's OK category. Flavour is not bad, too many crackers on top at the start and you can't really tell what's under and what you're eating. But it is ok.
