Beautiful canyon! So close to the city, you cant miss it if you travel to Skopje. Went there by taking bus 60 from the bus station (day ticket 120 denar). Bus is always late, prepare for at least an half hour delay. When arriving at the canyon, you have to walk about 20 minutes to the accessible part itself. But not to worry, its a beautiful walk. There are two operators that offer boats rides and kayaks. Choose the boat. We took the kayaks, this is an hour to the cave and an hour back. At the cave it is tricky to get to land safely and dry (i failed at that) and the path to the cave is really steep and made of loose gravel and rocks. Very dangerous. Really only for the sportive, fit and experienced people. Not me. Overal a wonderful experience!

One of the most beautiful places here in Macedonia 🇲🇰. The boat tour cost me 400 denar for a one hour boat ride with exploring the cave. You can even ask the boatman to jump in the water. The boatman was a supper chill dude and told us crazy stories with tourist who like to party. The restaurant staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. I would definitely come back again and hopefully when it’s warmer for sure.

Really nice green area with a lovely canyon and river very close to the city centre. It’s is easily reachable by bus 60 (which departs form the bus station) or by car. Over there, you can hike through the path next to the canyon, take a boat to visit the cave, rent a canoe or simply swim. There are some restaurants where you can have dinner or small street shops where you can buy, water, soda, nuts or corn.

I subtract one star from an otherwise impeccable 5-star place on account of all the litter that abounds along the paths. I am not a notable eco-warrior, but the combination of single use plastic and no use brains was all too common among visitors to Canyon Matka. I am not one for corporal punishment, but if it must be, I would hope litterers will be given priority in the line. The path along the side of the lake is mostly well-maintained and is a nice and exciting yet very easy walk. I stayed overnight at the hotel and the peaceful ambience once the day-trippers had packed up and left and the boat rides had ceased added significantly to the experience. Having done it, I cannot imagine visiting without staying overnight. The hotel was simple yet excellent. Staff were helpful and food in the restaurant was both ample and good.

Canyon Matka in Skopje is a true natural gem. The stunning beauty of the canyon's landscapes is absolutely captivating. It's a serene escape from the bustling city life. Whether you're into hiking, boating, or simply taking in the breathtaking views, Canyon Matka has something for everyone. The tranquility of the water, the towering cliffs, and the rich history of the area make it a must-visit destination. Don't miss the chance to explore this remarkable piece of nature when you're in Skopje!"

One of the most beautiful places i have visited! Its near to Skopje and it is a must to visi if you visit town. Nature is beautiful, colors and calmness are really unique. You can have boat trip, you can eat at restaurant and you can feed ducks! We stayed for couple of hours and it was incredible experience. Its clean and they care about it which is also really nice.

One of the best places to visit near the Capital city! It has multiple restorations and cafes. Theres also a lot of activities like kayaking, hiking, boat trips to caves... One of the oldest churches from the Roman times is situated there. Beautiful landscape perfect for taking a lot of pictures. The only problem is parking.

(Translated by Google) Canyon valley close to Skopje. It is a place where you can do many activities in the name of nature tourism. Enjoy the insatiable view while doing a beautiful nature walk. Escape from the artificial Skopje to the scenic Matkaya. Alpine climbing, fishing and water skiing is possible until November. There is also a boat tour to the cave area. I came in 2013 and now 2020 is much more developed in terms of tourism. (Original) Üsküp’e yakın kanyon vadi. Doğa turizmi adına birçok aktiviteyi yapabileceğiniz bir yer. Stunningly beautiful canyon easily reachable from Skopje. Take a bus, taxi or tour but find a way to get here. A heat if the European Kayak championships was on when I came. You can hike or take a boat up the upper part of the canyon. The butterflies are beautiful and you may be lucky to find lots of other animals too. Take your time and enjoy!

I cannot believe it took me so long to visit Macedonia. This country is absolutely mind-blowing and I have no words to describe my experience so far. Hospitality, food, weather, and views. Do not make that mistake and do not overlook that country whenever you are visiting Europe or are a European. ти благодарам Македонијо 🇲🇰❤️

Awesome view, great place. Visited in the end of November and it looks better than the photos. Easy to get here by public bus 60 (the info on the official page is valid). Get a boat trip to the cave or a kayak. Stayed at the hotel on the lake - the rooms are with good lake view and warm. Charmed.

Amazing canyon which is basically in the main city. I recommend taking a bus or a taxi (don’t pay more than 6€ for a ride from the city center). Great experience and very calm river which is ideal for canoeing. You can rent a canoe for not that much euros or take a boat trip to a small cave. I highly recommend renting a canoe for the full experience.

Well spend day off. Nature worth visiting. The place is nice and there is a lot to walk around. After the walk you can relax in the local restaurants for lunch or just have a coffee or wine. The view is beautiful. Definitely recommended everyone to go and have a nice morning there.

Beautiful canyon to walk along, kayak, paddle board or take a boat tour. There are two options for boat: 25/30 minutes or an hour that should include a visit to a stalagmites cave. The canyon itself is very impressive and beautiful. However, I t’s super busy and touristy which makes it a bit less fun. Especially if you come with a car you might end up parking farther away to avoid the parking craziness. We took the hour long boat ride. It was nice but I think you get the idea in the shorter ride and the cave was not so impressive compared to other caves we visited. Overall, a good couple of hours to spend with the family or friends. I’d recommend bringing bathing suits and end the day at the beginning of the river where you can jump in.

Lovely hiking 4km path along the waters Just a pity that they closed the path at the end - opposite the cave - and one is not allowed to continue. There is still, however, a path that continues beyond the closing bars, but it is not maintained and perhaps also have a higher risk.

Seeing that place is something just amazing! Once of the most breath taking places near Skopje, Macedonia. In the summer especially it has become a very popular tourist destination so you will see many people from all over the world visiting. If you want to take in the nature I would suggest travelling off season. You must ride on the boat, ticket is around 5 euros.

Loved everything about this place ! So quiet, just perfect. A walk along the canyon, a hike up the monastery, kayaking along the canyon, going for a short boat ride was just what we wanted. Perfect perfect perfect. Will definitely come again for a weekend break.

Great place to disconnect for a weekend, with many options such as walking around the lake, doing mountain hikes, kayaking, visiting monasteries... It is pretty close to Skopje and easy to reach it by public bus number 60. There are few restaurants and some stands selling souvenirs, ice creams and snacks. Totally recommended to go with family, friends or couple.

Went there during working day. Not crowded at all. Just nice and picturesque views. The river Treska is just perfect. All clean and with visible trouts. We took a small boat for trip. It lasted like 15 minutes for about 3.5 euro per person. It was nice! I recommend it for working days.

Although we went on a cold day in winter and on a weekday, we loved this paradise-like canyon in the middle of huge mountains. There weren't many people other than us, and this calmness allowed us to enjoy the atmosphere more. We couldn't go on a boat tour just because the weather was cold. We are sure that it will be much nicer in the summer.

One of the best beauty in 🇲🇰. Must be on your check list. We tried waterbike and had a lot fun. Biking against the flow is a little tiring but turning back is easier. It is really long drive so if you want to see the whole canyon you can walk through paths, use bicycles, or take a boat tour. I also saw one place for kayak renting. It seems fun, too.

Absolutely worth visiting this beautiful nature resort; in addition to beautiful scenery, the center offers different activities ranging from boat rides, cave visits, kayaking, hiking, etc. the starting point has a restaurant, bar, and a few souvenir/coffee shops. Hiking is free, other activities require payments but it is relatively inexpensive. I hiked to the end of the canyon. At average speed it takes About two hours total. At the end of the path that meanders along the shore, a cross indicates the end of the path. It is a nice walk with amazing views. We visited in January during off season so no wait and a lot of availability.

Canyon Matka is an absolute gem for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Nestled just outside Skopje, the capital city of North Macedonia, this breathtaking canyon offers a stunning blend of rugged landscapes, tranquil waters, and awe-inspiring caves, making it a must-visit destination.Upon arrival, I was immediately captivated by the canyon's sheer beauty. Towering cliffs, adorned with lush greenery, framed the serene waters of the Treska River. Exploring the canyon is an adventure in itself. Numerous hiking trails cater to various fitness levels, ensuring everyone can experience the wonders of Matka. Whether you're a novice hiker or an experienced trekker, there's a path that suits your preferences. As I embarked on the trails, I was surrounded by a symphony of nature—birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the gentle gush of the river flowing alongside me. For those seeking more adventure, Canyon Matka Skopje also offers thrilling activities like kayaking, rock climbing, and even cave diving for the daring souls. These activities allow you to immerse yourself in the natural wonders of the canyon while enjoying an adrenaline rush. To complete the experience, make sure to visit the nearby Monastery of St. Andrew, perched on a cliff overlooking the canyon. This centuries-old religious site offers a sense of tranquility and offers stunning panoramic views that are nothing short of breathtaking. The visitor center provides useful information, maps, and guidance, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable visit. However Canyon Matka Skopje is a true natural wonder that leaves a lasting impression. Its unspoiled beauty, diverse activities, and opportunities for exploration make it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. Whether you're looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure or a peaceful escape from the city, this enchanting canyon will not disappoint.

The second time now here in Matka Canyon, everything is still the same and nothing is changed. Just the prices are increased and too much rubbish in the trekking trail. Please safe this place as quick as possible.

Such a beautiful experience, and very easily accessible! No fees for entry or parking, some cafés/restaurants/vendors along the way, but no stress or intrusive marketing. A wonderful nature experience with the possibility of kayaking/boating in the canyon all the way to the caves. That will be next time's adventure! Only downside: not very pleasant toilets and the railing sometimes disappears without warning. 😂

A beautiful and phenomenal place. There is free parking, restaurants and ice cream parlors on site. You can cross the canyon on foot along the scenic route or sail by kayak or boat with a motor at very attractive prices. There are duck houses on the river, very charming :) A must-see during your stay in picturesque Macedonia

What a beautiful place. We visited it at the end of September on a Saturday and it was very crowded. Hundreds of people were walking around there. We walked a part of the pathway, but turned around after a couple of hundred meters. It is possible to walk a couple of kilometers, but then you'll have to turn around and go back. We chose to take the boat trip to the caves. Keep in mind that when you enter the canyon, the first option you have to take a boat trip only takes the short tour. If you walk further there's another place to go with the boat and they offer the short and the long tour (short is € 4,- and long is € 8,50). The long one is with the cave. The cave was a little disappointing, while it's very small. You can walk about 100 meter into te cave and then you have to turn around. But the canyon is amazing. It's one of the most beautiful places we visited in Macedonia.

Beautiful slice of nature. An artificial lake created by the dam. You can also take a boat ride down the lake to see a beautiful cave. One 7 kilometers of walking paths. Great place on the edge of town. Go early. It gets crowded.

A great day stop, or stay in close lodging like RiverHaven to relax a couple days. Boat vender at end near restaurant give rides to the cave. Avoid weekends in summer as it's stuffed with visitors. Cool off in the river below the dam or jump in for a quick swim at a cove in the lake.

Not the once in a lifetime kind of canyon but nice to spend a day there if you're in Skopje. Went on a 1h boat trip to the cave and back. Also took a walk along the canyon and then rent a kayak for 1h. We took the bus 60 from Skopje central station (bought single ride ticket there at the booth 50mkd) there and came back with the taxi (500mkd) because we didn't want to wait.

A small piece of natural heaven. Ideal for adventures with your family or friends. There is also an option to rent out a kayak if you're a couple who likes adventures. The view is breathtaking while you're going up the canyon which is engulfed in big mountains and greenery. I recommend visiting the "Vrelo" cave.

Absolutely gorgeous! If possible go during the week as it does get crowded. Parking can be an issue if you are not savvy. Bring appropriate clothing! I would not recommend flip flops and/or slides if you’re planning on walking on the rocky trail, you will twist an ankle. And I definitely recommend you walk at least part if the trail. Great photo ops and no better way to enjoy the nature. The total length is 7km one way, and you have to walk it back to keep that in mind. Definitely recommend a tour to Vrelo cave (make sure to be specific, not all tours go there). If you’d like to paddle yourself, kayaks or paddlebikes are an option. Bring water with you. There are bathrooms by the last restaurant open to the public. You can also pack sandwiches as the restaurants will be expensive.

Gorgeous canyon, well maintained. When you enter you pass a big dam and then reach a few restaurants and cafés. From there you can take a boat trip down the river and visit the cave. Was about 400 denar. We decided to walk instead. There is a nice path on the right side of the canyon, but anything you walk you need to walk back. We thought we could reach the cave by foot but turnes out it’s on the other side of the canyon! You can only reach it by boat. Same goes for wanting to catch the boat on the way back- not possible. Hope this saves you some time! I would recommend walking until you see 2 benches and a picnic table and than return.

Matka Canyon, should go straight to the top of the “must do list” for anyone visiting Skopje. This canyon is about 23 minutes drive from central Skopje and is pretty much unreachable without getting a bus, booking an excursion or hiring a taxi (the option we took). There are a number of ways to explore the canyon, you can hike, you can take a boat trip, hire a katak or similar solo or duo transport options. However you travel this is a wonderful break, it’s so calming and relaxed, the air is nice and it just makes you feel free of everything. It costs nothing to enter the canyon and there are plenty of places to eat or drink, just near the entrance of the Canyon, once passed the dam however there is only one option for food and drink and they know it adding a premium for the experience. This stunning location really will make your trip worthwhile.

A magnificent place indeed for lovers of nature. Easy to reach with a taxi and surprisingly, not very expensive for foreign tourists. I wholeheartedly recommend that you visit the canyon if you have a bit of spare time!

One of my favorite places I've ever been. It's just stunning. Kayaking, boat trip, cave, dine in a cave hike the trails and take in the stunning surroundings...oh and it's really cheap!

Beautiful nature and views, took a boat trip to the nearby cave Vrelo. Price is 500 MKD for an adult, children half and under six goes for free. The trip takes about 1 hour. The cave is not big, but it is nicely lit. Lovely, undemanding trip.

Anyone traveling to Skopje must stop there. It is only a few minutes by car. Just a short walk from the parking lot. I definitely recommend taking the boats. Attention, there are two options, either just a cruise, or a cruise plus a visit to the cave with a guide. A very nice place, also suitable for small children.

Beautiful canyon. Nice trail runs up the canyon for at least an hour (we turned back). Water is a bit cold for swimming. Boat rides are ~$4-8 usd for 30 to 60 minute trips, kayak rentals cost about the same. Easy trip in from Skopje via bus 60 unfortunately there was debate / no confirmation regarding afternoon pickups. We eventuaĺly took a taxi to a nearby town and caught a Skopje bound bus there.

The best place to visit in Skopje region! Beautiful nature, walking around the canyon is such an experience, with many great viewpoints. Also you can hike to some monasteries nearby. They also have lovely restaurants next to the lake.

A beautiful and unexpected landscape in North Macedonia, 30min away from Skopje, definitely a place to visit during your vacation!! Highly recommended to anyone, family or friends or Couple, or solo traveler as me. You can have a boat trip to the caves, or just enjoying a kayak session in a single Seat kayak or double Seat, or go for hiking along the canyon Coast... and much more. Most of all, they are very cheap!

One of the best stops in Macedonia, Matka Canyon is truly an incredible sight. We arrived here 8am on a Sunday and there’s already a group of people on a bus tour behind us. It’s not very busy at the time but can get pretty crowded easily. Instead of doing the boat to the cave, we did the trail on the side of the lake which took us about 2 hrs back and forth. Unfortunately, the trail doesn’t lead to Vrelo Cave, it just ends in front/ across it. Still we enjoyed the trek and trail is bushy and raw (haven’t been maintained). The highlight of our visit would be the Kayak in the lake, very fun and enjoyable (be mindful that you can get wet doing this coz we did). To end our trip we had drinks by the lake to enjoy the view.

An absolutely gorgeous piece of nature, and well worth the trip. The trail is quite long, and we didn’t walk it all, but opted to take a boat ride to the cave for a few hundred MKD. Be sure to hike up to the monastery on the other side of the river - it costs 50 MKD per person to get across the river to the bottom of the trail, and then a 30 minutes steep uphill hike to get there. But worth it!

I recently visited Matka Canyon, a beautiful natural wonder located just outside of Skopje, 25 minutes by car from the city centre. Towering cliffs and clear blue water create a stunning sight. We walked around and did 25 minutes boat walk. It was so beautiful and amazing. Highly recommended to visit.

The entrace and walking into the canyon walking path is free, but there are kayak and boat ride options at very affordable prices, I recommend them. It is worth the ride there, but parking gets very crouded so I would go there during working days or early in the day.

A must see if you're in Skopje for a few days. There are a lot of tours and taxis also drive up there. There is a giant dam which used generate almost all of Skopjes electricity. You can kijack in the reservoir or take a boat trip to see some caves. All very worth it. There is also a restaurant and a lot of opportunities to go hiking!

Beautiful place with great scenery, perfect spot for photos, no entrance fee and easily accessed by bus number 60 from Skopje bus station. For about 3 euros you can take a little boat tour around the canyon.

Really nice place! What I can personally recommend is: Hicking a bit to the church on top of one mountain (Sankt Nikolaus) and have an astonishing view to the canyon. Then walking down & make a boat trip to the caves (500 Denars) and see the amazing canyon. Can totally recommend! Parking is free and you have good opportunities to park.
