Emergency room โ€ข Hospital department

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ I was a patient in the accident and emergency department ie Major Unit and AMU1 yellow assessment unit on the 31st August till the 1st September. I had the best care from all staff despite the units being extremely busy. The staff are a credit to the Lister Hospital. People often mention staff, care, waiting, hours,

Emergency department is a joke here!!! Extremely disappointed. We did wait for 5 hours, no sign of any doctor. Receptionist was highly unprofessional and rude. Why do they stick many posters saying โ€œplease be polite to our staffโ€. Really? Please teach your staff to be professional and polite to patients/visitors then wonโ€™t need to stick unnecessary notice saying โ€œPlease be polite to our staffโ€. We observed many patients leaving the department without seeing the doctor due to long hours wait and highly inefficient and unprofessional process and staff!!!

Went in with complications from a brain tumour. Initial waiting time wasn't bad - about half an hour. Quite poor care after that. . Several times I asked the doctor and whatever nurses I could find as I wandered the corridor, and even the receptionist, for pain killers but none came. Was mocked by some nurses for only asking for paracetamol. 'Specialist' thought my tumour-induced hemianopia(vision loss) was a loss of taste and smell and wanted to do a covid test. Was discharged after about 7 hours with no care plan and told to go to a proper hospital. Self medicated at home with prescription drugs I had left over in the cupboard. I didn't die and I am now in the care of a 'proper' hospital.

Excellent care from the Lister Hospital A&E Team from the time the paramedics arrived at my home and took me in right through the many blood tests, ECGs and x-rays. Excellent and personal care throughout,. Thank you Lister A&E. ๐Ÿ‘

I was here from 2 pm on Friday until 6.00 am on Saturday when I was admitted. The place was madly busy - the staff were superb and amazingly patient, but there just aren't enough of them, nor were there enough treatment rooms or porters. Some blood tests having to be taken to Addenbrookes and then having to wait for results. Only one A&E to cover an unacceptably large area. One of the doctors took a patient to xray - great use of her time and expertise! Nurses had to wander around the packed and noisy waiting room calling peoples' names and waiting for them - why no communications system as GP surgeries have? Entitled adults whining to nurses that they had been there 2 hours and trying to jump the queue. One woman said she was so appalled at the wait that she was taking her daughter home - why was she there in the first place then? Why are the Tories telling us they are increasing the numbers of doctors being trained while at the same time some universities have cut the number of places? Why do nursing students no longer get a bursary and why do junior doctors have to pay thousands of pounds to study and sit extra exams to increase their expertise? This situation is not the fault of the staff - remember this when you vote in the next government! Stop whinging! Take a hot drink and something to eat and something to do - everyone is aware of the waiting times!
