I had a one day procedure in September 2013 which I financed myself. It cost over one thousand pounds. Before I went in I made an agreement with admin. staff at Spire that I could stay until 2.00 pm as that was the earliest time I could be collected. I was checked by a nurse at 10.30 and told that as far as they were concerned I was fit for home and therefore discharged. I did not see another person all morning except for one kind lady who, while serving lunch to other patients and seeing that I was sitting in the room without any offer of food or drink, on her own initiative, made me a cup of tea. At 2 pm my husband rang me from the entrance and I had to leave the room by myself and find him alone as no one told me he had arrived or helped me find him from the second floor. No one knew when I actually left the hospital. While the consultant and theatre staff doing the actual procedure were kind, professional and highly competent. I was genuinely shocked by the after care and when I recorded my complaint in the evaluation form I received no response whatsoever. I was greatly disappointed and would not recommend this hospital to anyone. The late review is simply because I have just found the site to post so obviously things might be better now but worth checking what they are prepared to do for you before you are admitted!

as a privately funded patient getting to the right consultant at norwich took months, the reception just say all the consultants are great. their administration is poor, there is no continuity between steps. they all have their individual jobs and that is their cut off. one aspect they are hot on is getting the money in and signing waivers. some documentation sent thru the post was contradictory. the consultant and anaesthetist were good and my operation was successful. they do send a follow up survey form which was completed but thats it. i had a procedure recently at nuffield cambridge who seemed to be very efficient by comparison. so in summary if you know exactly what you need to have done and the consultant then maybe. do not expect any guidance from spire as a self funding patient they just are not geared up for that

With a year+ wait for an NHS appt, I decided to go private for a straightforward gyn op. Consultant had zero bedside manner, was cold and didn't listen to concerns. I asked to speak to another consultant, get a second opinion, on three calls to outpatients of which only one was returned eventually. I received excellent support and advice from a senior nurse and outpatients team which put my mind at ease (only reason for 2 stars and not 1). I decided not to cancel my surgery date and subsequently found out my surgery was cancelled, with 11 days to go. And no one told me! Shambles. How can you put your utter trust in an org that can't get the basics right? They used to be amazing.

Both my parents have been in-patients over the last 12 months and, like many of the reviewers here, seem to have had the same experience. Immensely competent and caring doctors but very poor aftercare. The nursing staff do not seem engaged, some even to the point of being rude. Continuing private conversations at the nurses station seems to be a higher priority than patient care. The rooms are not cleaned, nor tidied and barely serviced at all. My mother's cannula was whipped out of her hand and she was left spraying blood everywhere and had to stagger out into the corridor and cry out for help. There were other incidents with my father that left him without care or dignity and that are too personal to recount here. Spire Norwich really should be ashamed of the way treat people, let alone paying customers.

Doctors excellent but latest experience in hospital huge letdown compared to previous 3 admissions. Bed controller only worked at foot of bed. Had hand surgery and got pneumonia and sepsis and still no bed control at head level though promised for days. Privacy not respected when in shower. Male attendant opened door with non urgent message. Felt most uncomfortable. Requested several time help brushing hair r help with hair.which had become heavily tangled after days in hospital and hand heavily bandaged and other hand attached to IV. Nursing staff / some kind and helpful while others acted as though I was a bother requesting more water to drink o

if there was a option to leave a zero i would, as a self funding patient, I went to spire to have facet joint injections under a local anaesthetic for chronic back pain, I felt they could not get rid of me quick enough. having paid thousands of pounds for the treatment (which didn't work) I was not given any follow up appointments or physio which I was told I would need and would be included in the cost. I have tried to contact them but get no reply. the whole experience was horrible and i was left totally traumatized. I would definitely NOT recommend this hospital.

I'd give 0 stars if i could, but i cannot so im forced to give a star which is undeserved. The staff are un-professional, they lack staff of all aspects, the care that the residents receive is very poor and the price for ONE WEEK is rediculous!! not too mention, my mum who's worked there for the past 13 years was made redundant less than two months ago ( not anyones fault, the economy is very poor and cuts have to be made i understand this) she got a VERY poor redundancy pay and they've decided to open the position that THEY CLOSED DOWN and did not notify her of this, didn't offer her job back and did not even offer an interview. She's been nothing but hard working and loyal, working every holliday she could including christmas's bank holidays ect. shes worked more over time than she worked not, and over all i think its a terrible company and im happily slandering everything that goes to your name. over all review? keep your loved ones at home and save your money or go to a decent place that will offer a decent service!

My experience so far has been amazing. I’m in so much pain with my back and going through the NHS would’ve taken 18+months. At Spire, I’ve been seen by a spine specialist, had an MRI scan, and had a round of X-ray’s in the space of about a week, and been added to a spine surgery waiting list (which is only a 10-12 week expected time period), which I think is incredible. The consultant has been extremely friendly, open and honest, and has instilled a lot of confidence in me, when he could likely tell I was nervous. I’ve had sound advice and really appreciate the support from the team here- I genuinely feel looked after, which is important when your health is at risk. You can also tell it’s a nice place to work as the reception staff are friendly and always seem to have a smile. When you walk through parts of the building you can see nurses are happy too, whereas my experience elsewhere has been pretty doom and gloom. It just makes for such a nice environment for a patient to be in and I personally really appreciate it. Spire has exceeded my expectations by miles. Really, really impressed so far, so please keep up the good work. You’re doing an amazing job! :)

Reception very helpful and polite, the consultant seen was good and I would give 5 stars. However imaging, didn't call me to arrange an appointment as promised, I tried calling them 5 times, just rings, once it was just cut off, twice left messages none returned, the next day called again, receptionist went to see them and I received a call within half an hour telling me they would call back after 12-30 with an appointment, needless to say no call came. I tried calling them without success. Third day calling just rings, called reception, very kindly agreed to chase them and gave my landline again, however an hour later they called on my mobile while I was in the toilet. Tried calling back and no answer. Reception now agreed to chase them for me again. I'm told they are not short staffed so what are they doing? I don't suppose anyone at the spire reads the reviews so assume nothing will change. Wish I had a Nuffield nearby.

Very disappointing- hard to get out patient appointments and I was constantly chasing. Waited weeks for a theatre date which didn’t come and I had to chase it with the secretary over a few weeks. The post op nurse a man called Sam was very unpleasant and unprofessional in recovery completely devoid of compassion. I’m in pain and telling me I’m not helping myself and I can’t be in that much pain. Was an awful experience- he has no business being in the caring profession. Aftercare on Lavender Ward- aftercare was okay however I didn’t feel the nursing staff had a complete understanding of the dietary requirements following my type of surgery. Some were okay and some staff were not very engaging. The consultant was very good and I cannot fault him however he is let down by the poor care and service in the background First time going private and the experience has been hard work to say the least. Overall the care I’ve received at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS trust five mins away has been far superior. The only good thing that I’m happy about is I had an operation I needed quickly instead of a three year wait: however aside of this wait I cannot see the benefit of having spent 13k because the quality on care is barely equal let alone succeeding the Norfolk and Norwich Very disappointed

This used to be a super hospital. The consultants nor their secretaries I am including in this review as they are great but the general hospital and how it’s being run just isn’t what it used to be. I’m still waiting for a reply to an enquiry back in August! Had a few ‘we are dealing with your enquiry’ emails but they never do actually deal with it. Luckily BMI at Bury St Edmunds was able to help. Much much better experience & it was clean. No blood on the sheets, no non emptied rubbish bins and not secretive or surly staff. Choose BMI.

I saw a consultant and then from making a decision to being offered a date for the operation it took over 2 months (over 3 months in total). I could have probably had the treatment on the NHS quicker!!! Totally unacceptable.

I have been to Spire Norwich about half a dozen times. Only one has been a good experience. Healing people and money is a poor mix. Spire is all about money. It pervades everything and spoils everything. Even seeing a good doctor is spoilt by extras which cost hundreds. If you are desperate go to Spire but make sure your bank account has ample funds because Spire will extract those funds professionally. Getting the right doctor is important. Recommended : ENT Professor Philpott Very knowledgeable Gastric Dr Michael Lewis Attentive, good.

In my experience they were too quick to book me in for an expensive ultrasound test without due diligence and double checking my notes to determine if the test was strictly necessary and appropriate given the specific symptoms being presented.

I was treated in Spire Norwich Hospital in early January 2014 for cancer and underwent major surgery. I cannot praise the nursing staff highly enough for their outstanding level of care and support. They were so kind and nothing was too much trouble for them at any time of night or day. The hospital is a very clean and pleasant environment and the food was excellent. Medical issues aside, it was almost like staying in a hotel. I was told clearly what would be happening to me every step of the way and this really helped me to cope with everything that was going on. My visitors were made very welcome by staff and I felt that the nurses made a real effort to get to know the patients' families as well as the patients. I can thoroughly recommend this hospital to anyone.

don't have enough words to thank to all staff from Spire Norwich Hospital. I was welcomed by very friendly and helpful receptionists, nurses, doctors, health care assistants, domestic staff, kitchen staff. It is true I was only for a knee arthroscopic as a day case NHS so no private but this didn't stopped all staff to offer brilliant service. It made me feel relaxed before the surgical procedure. Thank you Mr D Cader and your team! Keep smiling and keep doing this great job!

“Very poor experience, and a feel Conned”. Contacted spire for booking a vasectomy, as NHS wait was 9months. I called and asked the rough cost and I was told £200 for a initial consultation then £7-800 for the operation. With this in mind, I booked the initial consultation as this was my max I was prepared to pay to forgo the long NHS wait and as other private clinics are charging around £500 this was more than enough I felt. Turned up for the initial consultation, the chap was 15 mins late, then I was pointed out the many possible negatives and not much about the procedure method, and I was told I would recieve a quote, but to expect a cost of 7-800 again by the consultant. I had to email the next day to then be told they do it the old fashioned way not the modern “no scalpel” less invasive way, anyway I said I would think about it, being put off by the method, and told them to hold off booking anything. Following day I recieved a booking confirmation, even though I had not been given any times/dates and had said not to book anything….. 2 days later I recieved a quote for £1815! So £2015 in total….Over double what they had originally indicated. Saying a price to entice customers to get consultations by giving false Information is not on, so I feel completely conned out of £200. I raised the complaint which I was told would be passed to a manager to look into but heard nothing. Joy and the reception staff however were very polite and professional, the consultant was rather blase and vague. Whole experience was woeful.

Went to see one of their Gynaecologists as had a concern about having a cancer and they initially misdiagnosed me about having something else which turned out I didn't have!! One of the first questions they asked "what protection I use?". Seriously, what of question is that, when I have come there worried about having a cancer? Unprofessional and inappropriate! Also, they were what it felt a bit pushy about some treatment option I didn't want to do and would never consent to!!!! Basically had to say "no " to it twice! Ridiculous! It had affected me! But apart from that, great and polite staff in the hospital. In future will see a different doctor though...

I booked here to see Mr Lutchman on 5th march 2013 as the NHS were giving me the run around, but it seems things arent so great privatly either. I was told £160 for a consultation and recieved a bill for £220, and when I questioned it, I was rudely and loudly told by Mr Luchmans secretary that it was my problem to sort out with Spire and not her problem! Its now been 2 weeks and I've heard nothing about the consultation appart form an inflated bill, its not what I expected from being private and with those types of prices!!

I had a knee replacement in August 2014 as a NHS patient . The nursing staff were both and caring, I could not ask for better care. The consultants all talked to each other about my fears and kept me informed and answered any questions and reasurred me throughout. I would highly recommend this hospital and all the staff.

I've had a couple of outpatient procedures at spire Norwich. Very happy with the service I received. The nurses are incredibly kind and helpful and the after care was excellent. Reception staff very good, and the consultant I saw is absolutely brilliant, Ms Dhalia Masud, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. The result from my surgery has been excellent. Would definitely recommend.

I'm not sure where to begin. I'm very disappointed with the ophthalmology appointment I had this afternoon. The one plus is the exceptional receptionist they have, but that is the only positive I can take from this experience. First of all, I was seen 25 minutes after my appointment was due, but that happens and is not my main issue. I wasted £210 on this appointment, hoping to find out what has been causing my recurrent eye infections over the last 4 months. Instead, I was met with a consultant who did not give me the level of service I expect. A swab I had done at my GP indicated I have an infection in my eye (Enterobacter Cloacae Complex, not that this name matters). However, the consultant seemed to shrug off this somewhat serious diagnosis, and instead insisted that I have blepharitis, although I personally believe, as does my optician, that my symptoms do not align with those of blepharitis. I left with nothing to treat the infection I have, and it is common knowledge that this such infection, can rapidly cause serious complications, such as vision loss and sepsis. I asked for oral antibiotics that are able to fight this resistant infection, but I quote the consultant suggested that he is "not comfortable prescribing antibiotics of that strength". Consequently, I am back to square one, trying treatment he suggested, that I told him I have already tried and has not been effective. I do not understand why it is so hard to comprehend that I would like treatment for the specific infection I have been diagnosed with. Yes, I have eyedrops of antibiotic nature, but these seem to make my eyes more inflamed and painful, a reaction of which I informed the consultant about. Overall, my time and money has been wasted, in line with many of the other reviews here. So I would politely suggest that anyone who is considering going here to find an alternative practice who will listen to you and do objective tests to find out what is the underlying cause.

Was sent here as an NHS patient for a total hip replacement. Wonderful experience from start to finish: found the staff - medical, nursing and support - very friendly, helpful and professional. I see there are some iffy reviews here but you have to take as you find and have to say that I thought this place was brilliant, from the consultants right through to the smiley ladies who kept us topped up with tea and coffee throughout the day. Unless you're expecting free beer there's nothing not to like.

I have just been discharged from Spire Norwich following a left anterior hip replacement. The care and attention I received from the moment I walked in was similar to staying in a high end hotel. I cannot fault the reception team, porters, HCA’s, catering staff, nurses, night nurses, physios and of course the surgeon and theatre team. They made me feel at ease throughout every stage. I only needed to stay one night and was discharged with plenty of meds, information, sick note, hospital notes and physio equipment and exercises. Although I initially thought about whether to self find due to the NHS waiting list, I can honestly say it is the best decision I made. Money can be replaced and saved, but your current health and future wellbeing is far more important.

Went for a consultation and got told the surgery would be in 6-8 weeks so I rang up to book everything and was told that there was a space available on the 15th June, said they would get back to me but I’ve had to keep ringing up as no one can confirm to me what is happening. Every time I ring I get told that someone will get back to me and a week/days go by and no one gets in contact. Not very organised.

I have never spent 3 nights in hospital until I went to Spire Norwich Hospital as a NHS patient. Excellent service from check-in to discharge. All the staff, from the top consultant, the nursing, catering, cleaning are all so helpful and considerate. Love the hotel room comfort where you can relax on your own which made the time go quicker. If ever I was due to have another op I would definitely choose Spire Norwich Hospital. Thank you again Dr Wimhurst.

I don't recommend it. AVOID Spire Hospital Norwich and seek professional help somewhere else instead! Where to start? First, employees can't deal with the insurance companies (the client's bill send back to the client's home address lol ) Although they had all the information from me, they sent the bill home to me twice (for me to sort it out)! Maybe you need to hire me and I'm going to do your job, how about that? Second, the letters about the appointments are never sent. They send you a stupid last-minute text message instead. The dumbest and most unprofessional organization I've ever seen!

Possibly the only hospital you DON'T want to leave. I was extremely lucky to have been referred to them and I am eternally grateful. I came home today after an overnight stay for a discectomy, the levels of care, kindness and friendliness from ALL staff goes above and beyond. You are made to feel welcomed and relaxed from the moment you enter reception, a wonderful porter (I apologise but I've forgotten names, gentleman who used to be theatre manager? He remembered all of our names the next day, amazing man) Greeted us, made my daughter (who struggles with strangers and is extremely shy/anxious in new situations) feel included, something I am forever grateful for, she was also included when we got to the room by the wonderful lady who took my breakfast and dinner order and took an order for her too (she loved her cheese sandwich!) I was under the care of Dr Swamy (a very kind and sweet man of which staff members speak very highly off) and his team, the anaesthetist (again, I'm so sorry but names have slipped my mind, probably courtesy of some wonderful pain killers!) Made me feel very calm and informed. The after care from nurses and other staff members was some of the best care I have ever received, as someone who is the one to do all the tucking in and taking care of at home, I was very very spoiled and it made my whole experience a positive one. So thank you to Spire Norwich, a truly wonderful environment and experience.

Had Orthopaedic keyhole surgery on my knee (First ever operation) and the procedure was quick, efficient and smooth from start to finish. Poor throughout. Lack of parking. Lack of appointments Visited twice, 1 time the appointment was cancelled. Multiple Doctors seems to be on "long term illness". Once I understand but 3 of them - smells like an excuse to me. Supposed to be private health care, yet it takes months to get an appointment. Get some more reliable doctors

So I’ve given it two stars based on the fact the receptionist were polite and helpful. In regards to the consultation itself I felt very unsatisfied. it lasted around 3-4 minutes there was nothing really in-depth within how the procedure is carried out. For £205 I expected to be examined abit more or a more in depth explanation of the procedure itself. There was no real gauge of how much the procedure would cost either. I feel the consultation was unnecessary based on the lack of information such as the procedure itself or the price of the procedure.

Spire lost our referral. We were referred by our gp. When we hadnt heard anything two weeks later we called spire only to be told no referral existed. They tried to blame it on my gp but my gp showed me paperwork that the spire had received the referral. They must have lost it and tried to blame others. Given that booking referrals is a large part of their work this is very poor .

Never had anything other than first class care. Super staff always friendly. Clean rooms. Consultants I have seen all been very friendly and take a real interest in you so you don't feel like a number. Parking is sometimes an issue despite new car park.

The staff were just magnificent! So friendly and caring, from when they first came on duty to 12 hours later when their shift finished. ALL the staff were brilliant! Food was excellent and tea, coffee was frequently offered and water jugs were regularly changed. Thank you so much for your help and kindness! Berni

Excellent from start to finish. Very efficient and always kept up to date with what’s happening. All the staff I met (probably 10+ members) were so, so kind and always making sure I was comfortable and had everything I need. Nothing was too much trouble when pressing buzzer for help with anything. A great team and I couldn’t recommend The Spire Hospital enough. Thank you too everyone that looked after me.

Fantastic from start to finish. Kind , caring , attentive , efficient. Well worth going private. My BC Surgeon Mr Hussein ( Aug 2008 at NNUH ! ) Performed my Incisional hernia operation at Spire 21/ 7 / 2018 . By request I wanted him to do it for me. So pleased. He has re opened the same neat little scar from what had caused it ( Appendix 1996 ! ) and thus not got another scar ! I was soo relaxed from start to finish at Spire. No worry in the lead up to my Op. A very nice enjoyable experience ( apart from the pain afterwards ! ) for a hospital stay. Highly recommend. Excellent 5 ***** well deserved. Thank you.

My husband had to have Chemotherapy st the Spire HHospital as well as various MRI scans. I cannot praise the nurses and doctors more for their care and professionalism. They were friendly and supportive and the facilities were clean and modern. We would both recommend Spire for their quality and service

I have found them wonderful, caring and very professional. They couldn't have treated me better when I had my hip replacement . Top surgeons and expert staff, I would give more than 5 stars if I could Btw food was excellent with great choice on menu, served hot. I was treated like special person here and not a number

Beware if you’re having an operation at Norwich Spire that not all their anaesthetists are fee assured (meaning your medical insurance will not cover all the fees) and they charge what they like, which will more than likely be over and above the average. Do your research before you go.

Dropped a family member off at the Consulting rooms, when you enter the main hospital car park you realise the signs are difficult to read with the colour combo the Spire hospital has chosen (I have 20/20 vision, tested regularly for work) and when you try to find the consultants there is no sign at all, after the first one on the right. It’s actually straight, then round the front of the hospital pass the big bins on the right and up the hill. A small awkward car park greets you. Surely they would think of this at there pricing.

😐 The reception staff are helpfull. I have a question. Are there any GPs in the practice? On the occasions I have needed an appointment I have never seen one. I always get an appointment with a practice nurse, although they are very good at what they do it would be nice to see a doctor at some point.
