A
very
cute
new(ish)
little
wine
bar
in
one
of
hippest
neighborhoods
of
Barcelona
(Santa
Caterina/Born),
nicely
decorated
and
with
a
cozy
ambiance.
I
had
heard
good
things
about
it,
particularly
about
their
focus
on
Catalan
wines
which
is
sadly
still
quite
rare
in
Barcelona's
wine
bar
scene,
so
perhaps
I
had
too
high
expectations
about
the
place
and
left
somewhat
disappointed.
The
main
thing
that
I
found
annoying
was
the
overbearing
"waitsplaining"
(a
concept
I've
seen
used
by
several
leading
restaurant
critics,
about
the
often
unwanted
lengthy
explanations
by
waitstaff
that
constantly
interrupt
your
conversation
while
dining/drinking).
This
was
also
reflected
on
the
wine/food
selection,
which
showed
a
lot
of
thought
and
research
(which
is
a
good
thing)
but
resulted
in
a
too
complex
wine
list
that
was
arranged
in
an
overly
intellectual
way
that
was
simply
not
user-friendly.
Much
like
the
name
of
the
bar,
which
warranted
nearly
one
page
description
on
the
back
of
the
menu,
something
that
requires
this
much
explanation
doesn't
help
shake
the
widely-held
notion
that
wine
is
intimidating,
pretentious
and
unapproachable
for
the
uninitiated.
I
found
the
waitsplaining
not
only
annoying
because
it
was
constantly
interrupting
the
conversation
with
a
friend
I
hadn't
seen
in
a
long
time,
but
also
because
it
was
done
in
a
forceful
way
without
asking
if
wine
descriptions
were
desired
or
indeed
necessary.
A
good
wine
server
should
not
only
know
about
wine,
but
should
also
be
able
to
read
the
room
and
realize
when
the
customers
might
already
be
very
familiar
with
the
wines
or
might
not
be
in
the
mood
for
a
lecture.
While
I
found
the
wine
selection
to
be
quite
interesting
overall,
and
as
I
said
I
give
them
kudos
for
focusing
only
on
Catalan
wines,
on
the
other
hand
the
food
offer
was
much
less
inspiring
perhaps
because
of
being
a
bit
too
obsessed
with
matching
specific
wines
even
when
customers
might
not
be
interested
in
that.
I'm
not
sure
I'll
go
back
if
I
just
want
to
relax
and
enjoy
a
glass
of
wine,
as
the
approach
and
concept
can
really
spoil
that,
but
since
it's
in
one
of
my
favorite
areas
of
Barcelona
(I
used
to
live
there),
I
might
give
it
another
chance.
I
just
hope
they
chill
and
give
customers
more
credit
(and
more
leeway
to
just
have
fun).
Since
I
doubt
they'll
tone
down
their
waitsplaining
approach,
and
since
they're
focused
on
Catalan
wines,
in
the
spirit
of
constructive
criticism
I
would
like
to
suggest
that
they
learn
how
to
pronounce
Catalan
grapes
and
regions
properly
(for
example,
when
going
on
and
on
about
a
wine
made
by
Vinyes
Domènech
please
don't
call
it
Dominic).
Also,
no
need
to
call
wineries
"bodegas"
as
in
Catalan
they're
called
"cellers".
