This is one of the few Chinese restaurants with two Michelin stars. The meal is delicious. We ordered Peking duck and several other dishes were delicious. The environment is clean and tidy with a magnificent high roof, the only downside is that the restaurant is slightly understaffed due to the spaciousness of the space. Not immediate in service. Waiting time for food is a little longer 。 But the attitude is still very good. This is our favorite restaurant。

A gentrified way of eating Szechuan cuisine. I felt the food didn’t have the spicy kick as the dishes were relatively muted. Otherwise a very grand restaurant to go with gorgeous lamps that frames the entire restaurant. It’s a place to enjoy the ambience. Mobility access: You have to climb up and down 2 flights of stairs to the main dining area. They offer a service lift for those who can’t do stairs however do be prepared to wait for the lift.

Fine dining time, and we love it. It's the most beautiful Chinese restaurant in Singapore. We have a great experience with the selection dishes that offer from Chef. It is kind of spicy but good to go.

Thanks Penny, Eric and Doris for the excellent service and tea flowing non stop. Food was great and fresh worth of its 2 star Michelin status. Perhaps the chef and owner can consider brightening the room but not making it Tok bright such as removing the blinds. The darkness makes it hard to take good pictures and makes the food looks less palatable.

Genuinely enjoyed the lunch here and the staff are very friendly, service was impeccable!! My mum has many food requests and the staff (Penny, Doris and Yvonne) were very accomodating to them. Penny was especially patient in suggesting different menu changes and making sure nothing was amiss during our meal. The lunch set menu was also pretty worth the price. Paid a bit more for the lobster but it was really fresh and tasted amazing with the sauce!

This is a Michelin 2 star restaurant for good reason. The Szechuan style food is delicious! We had a vegetarian meal with Hot and sour soup, two varieties of dumplings, mapo tofu and stewed Japanese eggplant with spicy garlic sauce, followed by mango pudding. The ambience is beautiful and the service very warm and friendly. We had a relaxed lunch here. Highly recommended.

Very well taken care of by the services from Katherine and Yvonne, they are very attentive. As it is our first time here, we ordered the recommended dishes of Chen's Mapo Duofu, Seafood Prawn Mala Mayo, Stewed Sliced Red Grouper Fillet with Pickled Vegetable Hot Stone Pot. They did not disappoint, well matched with a bowl of rice.

Great service! The Peking duck is good but potion seem small compared to other restaurants. 水煮鱼broth was clear spicy soup which was so shocking unlike normal 1 outside. The 麻婆豆腐is nice, spicy yet not too oily.

Great dinner here. Most dishes were extremely tasty and unique. Service was what you would expect from a Michelin restaurant. I had the Set Menu 2 which I found to be really great value for both the types of food and the quantities received. Particularly great dishes were the lobster in chilli sauce and the chef’s special tofu. Slightly disappointed at the limited drinks menu though. Either way, would highly recommend!

Mapo tofu & Peking duck is good. Shui zhu yu is a scam, for the price only got 3 slices. Can get half Peking duck for similar price.

TLDR: Aesthetics doesn't match the experience. You enter into an Instagram-able fancy aesthetic ambiance but leave with an unsatisfied stomach. Total Average Rating: 2.3/5 🌟 Summary: I came here with high expectations for my very first two-star Michelin restaurant. To say it was a disappointment would be a total understatement. This was a big miss for me. Their selections is like rolling a dice, it's a win-or-lose (hit or miss) kind of situation. Some are good enough price-wise and reputational wise; others, well it just doesn't hit the mark. Food: 2 🌟 I didn't read any reviews nor wanted to check which dishes were the best before I ate here because I wanted the element of surprise. Most of the selections I chose were based on their "chef's recommendations". Ironically enough, my meat selection (duck and chicken)—which were not chef's recommentation—were the only two worth-while dishes. I'm a chicken lover and they did not disappoint. Chicken was juicy and tenderlicious. The umaminess with every bite was exquisite. Same goes for the duck. The rest of the dishes were meh. It wasn't amazing enough to get me THE chills—THE UMAMI FEELING. I eat Chinese for a living and goodness the other dishes felt like eating in EVERY other Chinese restaurant. No creativity, no special garnish/embellishment on my plate. 0 wow factor. 0 aesthetic appeal. Like what makes the other dishes different from the rest of the Chinese restaurants? There must be something unique to the taste but whatever it is, my normal senses could not sense it that I'd already forgotten its taste as I write this review. 0 differentiation. If you're a normal human being with 0 special heightened senses, you may want to re-assess whether to go here considering you aren't paying cheap here. The Chen special noodle soup was a big miss for me. And I will explain later in the service section that THIS wasn't even what I ORDERED! Like I don't understand how a dish like that can come from a two-star Michelin resto like all you get inside are the following: soup, noodles, diced pork, and 1 POLONCHAY. It still amazes me that I didn't order this from the streets or some fast-food Chinese resto. This coincides with the service but I want to state it now, one of the server raves about how one dish like the asparagus is priced "that" way because ingredients are fresh and imported all the way from Japan but to be real honest it won't even bear much significance or added value to my experience when in the end I end up with (1) serving time takes a long long time and yet (2) they serve the dish to me cold/lukewarm. The same goes for all the other dishes. Like the tea served was hotter than the very dishes that were supposedly freshly cooked and served to me. On a side note, I'd like to add my distaste for their beverages, i.e. tea. I ordered tea: flower tea and jasmine tea (again this is not what we ordered). I know this ain't a tea speciality restaurant but if you're pricing it at 6 SGD, I'm expecting some quality tea serving/preparation. Like Putien knows what is GOOD tea. Like seriously, the sacrilege in daring to just dunk exquisite quality flowers and tea leaves in tea bags floating away in a good ol' fashion white, ceramic, Chinese teapot. One word: Gobsmacked. If you're a tea enthusiast like me, pass ordering tea here. You're better off with just water. Service and ambiance review, see photos.

Nice decor. Had a weekday dinner with their tasting menu. Service standard somewhat lower than when I visited a year ago. Pacing of dishes uneven with initial dishes timed far apart then subsequent ones rushed. Food was top notch though. Lovely nuanced spiciness and flavours of Szechuan cuisine, interpreted Japanese style. Felt the foie gras chawanmushi with crab roe, steamed sea perch with yellow peppers, and of course mapo tofu was fantastic.

The restaurant fulfilled a fine dining experience. Food were exceptional and I was looked after from a great team of staff. Yvonne was very attentive and even took to the next level helping with my food adventure in Singapore by asking chef for suggestions. Overall I really enjoyed the food and cannot wait to be back.

Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro is a culinary gem that marries tradition with innovation, offering a sensory journey through the rich tapestry of Sichuan cuisine. Located in the heart of Singapore, this Michelin-starred restaurant, helmed by Chef Chen Kentaro, brings a bold and authentic flavor profile to the city's diverse gastronomic scene. The ambiance at Shisen Hanten is refined yet welcoming, with an understated elegance that complements the culinary experience. The menu is a testament to Chef Chen's mastery, featuring classic Sichuan dishes alongside his innovative interpretations. Shisen Hanten beautifully blends the bold flavors of Sichuan cuisine with Japanese inspiration, all while offering traditional Cantonese dishes. Their Mapo Tofu is amazing I would return here just for this dish. The perfect blend of spicy and savoury, with tender tofu bathed in a flavorful sauce, makes it a must-try. Their vegetable dishes are equally impressive. Here, the true essence of the vegetables shines through, highlighting their natural flavors and freshness. Service at Shisen Hanten is impeccable, with attentive staff adding to the overall dining experience. Their commitment to ensuring your satisfaction enhances the enjoyment of the meal.

Overall Food were great 👍🏻 broccoli 🥦 , mapo tofu and the green dumplings 🥟 were normal so not worth ordering them cos expensive. The rest were good and I recommend the herbal Iris duck (London Roast duck) and Yu sheng

First time here after the name change. Overall as a restaurant, I would say 5 🌟 because almost all the dishes taste good. But if judged as a Sichuan cuisine restaurant, then it’s more like 3 🌟 because it lacks the Mala punch. Special mention to the 水煮鱼 and the 三头鲍鱼 - YUMMY!!! 😋 Beef was a bit salty, while the crab roe soup does not have any taste of foie gras (hmmm 🤔). I would say, can come at least once to taste it for yourself to see if you like it or not.

Incredible place for lunch! Such a beautiful atmosphere accompanied by beautiful food. Had the half duck with the first course in pancakes (not pictured) and the second course wrapped in lettuce which was a great way to freshen up our palettes. The stir fried prawns in chili sauce is an absolute must and no wonder it’s one of their signature dishes. The buns to accompany and soak up any leftover sauce were great, we would’ve gotten more but didn’t want to fill up! The sautéed wagyu beef with cumin was so aromatic and the meat extremely tender, and the fried rice with pork and seafood was delicious and equally portioned out for the three of us. We had a fantastic time, the service was impeccable and we hope to come back soon.

The restaurant offered a charming ambiance with its tasteful decor and welcoming atmosphere. The service was exceptional; the staff was attentive. Our orders arrived promptly, and each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavors. I highly recommend trying the foie gras and crab roe soup- it was an absolute delight! Would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience.

Amazing dinner at Shisen with my partner. First time trying Michelin-starred Chinese cuisine and it was well worth the price tag. Went a la carte but accidentally over-ordered. Nevertheless, everything was cooked to perfection, especially the Peking Duck and the truffle prawns. The service staff, Hui Hsuan, Yvonne, and Doris, were extremely warm and attentive and made my partner and I feel extremely welcome.

Visited during the CNY period whilst the CNY menu was on. Food was excellent. Beijing duck was nicely done, the sauce is a little more fruity and sweet than usual. Chawanmushi foie gras crab roe soup was interesting. Mapo tofu was perfectly balanced, the japanese rice that came with it was amazing. Yvonne and Doris were very friendly and helpful service staff. :)

A wonderful meal - we had the set menu, and everything that we had was delicious. Particular highlights were the pan fried wagyu beef and the famous mapo tofu! We were exceptionally looked after by Yvonne, Doris, and Men Cheng and left happy and very full.

I think the food was okay and while the food is pricier compared to other places, the location and ambience made up for it. That being said, there wasn't really a single dish that wowed me. I even think their signature mapo tofu could be spicier but I have a higher tolerance for spice. I don't understand how they got and maintained their 2 stars though. Dining here certainly didn't feel like the other Michelin star restaurants that I have been too BUT the other restaurants were not really doing table sharing food and their prices were much higher. As one of my friends who came on a separate visit put it, it was value for money for a Michelin restaurant.

Excellent Service provided by Yvonne, Doris, Winnie, Eric, Irene and Senior Ong. They were very attentive, genuine and provide service from the heart. The food are originally Sichuan roots. They were cooked to perfection. The food that caught our heart (and tummy) were Mapo Tofu, Sour Spicy Soup, Dan Dan Noodles, Pork Ball in Black Vinegar! One of the new star of the show was Okinawan Brown Sugar in Almond Pudding! (Do not believe what you see until you dig in!) They celebrate diversity as they have Senior Ong as part of their team. I salute them and Senior Ong! Thank you for the great dining experience! P/S: This is not a paid review. We paid for our dinner! :)

What an honour and pleasure to have the privilege of dining at Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro. I will like to extend my compliments to Rachel and Katherine from Shisen Hanten. It was my third time dining in at Shisen Hanten, both Rachel and Katherine ensured the entire dine-in experience was exceptional. Katherine called me to confirm my reservation and was extremely welcoming and polite over the phone. She went through the details and ensured everything was in order. Rachel was very knowledgeable and attentive as she came to take my order, she was also able to explain and upsell the different types of live fish very clearly. The entire dine-in was so enjoyable all because of Rachel’s dedication and passionate service. Indeed, it is heartening to see your staffs Rachel and Katherine were able to remember the subtle details, such as a guest's name and the special requests. Both their passion for the job and their ability to ensure maximum satisfaction for each and every guest at Shisen Hanten deserves special mention. Their affable and outgoing disposition comes across when they are around at Shisen Hanten, and their willingness to assist their fellow team members, shows what a gem they both are. Indeed, I'm sure Rachel and Katherine have elevated the service levels of Shisen Hanten in their own way and they certainly deserve to be recognised for their efforts. They are both a joy to have around at Shisen Hanten and I'm sure many guests share similar experiences as myself. Well done! :)

For a 2 Michelin star restaurant, I honestly expected much more out of a Sichuan restaurant. Especially with the funkiness behind a Japanese chef doing sichuan food. But, wasn't getting much of that specialty out of my dining experience. Food is generally alright, and good for what they're serving. Some Japanese ingredients used, some Japanese spices added. Their Chen's mapuo doufu, and the eggplant, were good, but I've had better elsewhere. Their specialty noodles were good, but I've also had better elsewhere. Service was surprisingly average to say the least. I've been to Michelin star restaurants with much better service. Even other normal Chinese restaurants have better service somehow! Last but not least, the steps. Uncontrollables, but mann the stairs will be a huge problem for old folks and those that are less mobile. Stairs to get to the dining area, and stairs to get to the washroom, and stairs to get out. Problematic for big family dinners. But good for business meetings with their private rooms separate from the main floor.

We visited today and had a delicious meal with four people. Yvonne, Penny, Katherine and Berlin were excellent in their service. This included serving our fish tableside, and refilling our tea! thank you!

Excellent food and service. Penny and Winnie were simply the best. They gave us extra truffle so that’s always worth a five star! Seasonal cuttlefish was my favourite.

Came back for our 3rd time but this time for birthday celebration. We were served well by Yvonne, Eric, Sannie who were attentive to us. Our teas were promptly refilled and the used plates were cleared quickly as well. They also gave us a birthday peach bun and sang song. The must try dish is the fish soup with wok fried shishito.

My wife and I had a great dinner at Shisen Hanten restaurant the last night in Singapore. The food was delicious. It’s more than we would normally pay but the food was deserving of the Two Michelin Star rating. We had BBQ Pork, Crispy Pork Belly, Crispy Mayo Shrimp and a fish in clay pot. Everything was very good except we probably would not have had the mixed 5 appetizers and just ordered the Wagyu beef and BBQ. Our servers Yvonne and Doris were fantastic and we had great service for the whole meal. It was worth the experience!

Good food and good service! We were served by Penny and Katherine and they are very active and friendly! Would definitely come back with my friends and family to enjoy the food and service 👍🏻 price is also very affordable and value for money for Michelin standard.

We had the business lunch set, priced at S$46 per pax that came with an appetizer, soup, main dish, choice or rice or noodle, and a dessert. Considering the quality, place, execution, I think it’s a super good deal. While some items on the set were a hit and miss (the cold appetizers did not hit the mark), the restaurants signature items (Szechuan dishes) were phenomenal. The Foie gras chawanmushi with crab roe soup (surcharge $18, but so worth it) was mind-blowing, the smooth egg custard balancing out the rich aromatic crab roe and subtle but buttery foie gras. Chen’s Mapo Tofu and Chen’s original spicy dandan noodles were life-changing, I’ve never imagined something as simple as Mapo tofu can taste this good. The flavours are not flat-out spicy or numbing, but with a depth of flavors I never knew existed in these simple dishes. Overall execution was excellent, Szechuan flavours were exquisite and ingredients used were top notch.

Food was horrible for a Michelin star restaurant I expected more then just ok food that I can find all across Singapore. Price was insanely high for mid food, brought friends from overseas to a treat but became a nightmare. Had to remake 2/3 dishes but got even worst then before no clue how this is a Michelin star restaurant.
