DANGEROUS, NEGLECT, and UNETHICAL are the top three words that best describe the care my mom received at Akron Select. I have been a registered nurse with a BSN for 17 years and I have never experienced anything like this. After being overdosed, I had to call 911 to get my mom out of that UNSAFE facility to get her the help she needed. When Akron fire arrived and took my mom to the hospital, the charge nurse came up to us and said “anything is fair game here.” I would NEVER RECOMMEND this facility to any friend, family member or patient. Please do not send your loved one here!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could give this facility a zero. Whatever you do- do not send your loved one here. I came from City hospital at their very high recommendation. I can’t believe that this facility is allowed to conduct business. It is what I imagine prison to be like. I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life. This is a second rate operation. The majority of the nursing staff is inept, rude, miserable and they aren’t capable of doing their jobs. It took them two hours to answer my call light last night and they withheld my medication that was three hours past due. I have a very detailed account of my brief four day stay of how I was treated (for my attorney) and last night was not an isolated incident. I am finally home and I will spread the word to anyone I know of my horrific experience there. May they be shut down. And may God protect the patients their that can’t speak for or defend themselves.

As a result from an ATV accident, our son was admitted to Select Specialty Hospital Akron location. There are no words to explain the care he received from housekeeping all the way up to the doctors and administration dept. The nursing staff, respiratory staff, and therapy staff are the best around and I mean they are phenomenal!! Everyone of them were not only professional with their job duties but went above and beyond to see that my husband and I were ok as well. They explained everything they were doing so to keep us up to speed. They treated our son with ultimate respect and made sure he was comfortable at all times. They became like family to us and that was the hard part when it was time to transition to his next phase of his rehab. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants the very best care for your loved one.

Everything has been absolutely great at select Akron hospital. Anyone who comes In my room as me if I need anything. Everybody has been absolutely perfect regardless of who it is. Doctors, nurses, therapy, respiratory therapy. It has been perfect!! When an alarm goes off the staff come in immediately to address it. I can’t say enough about this hospital.

I spent nearly 30 days in this wonderful place. I can't say how much I admire these nurses and aides, even the house keeping ladies were very nice and polite as well. I wanna thank the entire staff of doctor's, nurses, nursing students, aides, etc. This was the second time In 2 years. Both times, wow. Just like I never left. New faces, a few that were still there, but all did great. Some patients may get upset when not tended too when they areinneed, but what they don't know is that there is usually a 6 to 1 patient to nurse ratio. Don't get frustrated, the aides relay to the nurse and they get to u as soon as they can. Thats something for those that choose to come to this hospital. I miss u all, my wound care nurses that had to put up with me harassing them, well I did that to everyone, but it was all with love and respect. The big bosses should be damn proud of their employees. THEY ARE PERFECT! Thank U!

Avoid at all costs. A family member was critically injured all over body. After 3 weeks in Summa's great care we were referred to Select. So much negligence it bogles your mind. The last thing you need when supporting an critically-ill family member is to babysit the hospital and make sure they are doing their job. While some staff members are helpful and proactive, the majority is lazy, sloppy and probably unqualified. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Even one star is generous.

My husband’s stay here was the worst experience of my life, and you would’ve thought his actual accident and the first few days after that would have been the worst. My husband suffered a severe TBI after a motorcycle accident and for most of the staff, especially night time, you would’ve thought this was their first time dealing with a TBI patient. There is so much negligence, over medicating, and in my opinion patient abuse going on that I truly have no idea how their doors are even open. I pretty much had a full time job babysitting the staff here and the night time staff? The absolute worst. They over medicate every patient they can as soon as night time takes over, add medicines without explaining to you why they are being added. Giving meds to your family member and never wanting to explain what it is (typically because they’ve had meds added to sedate your family member). Blaring TVS at night with all the lights on, nursing assistants sitting covered in blankets watching Netflix on their phones. Whatever you can do, avoid this place at all costs. While the therapy team and some of the day time staff were amazing, it’s not worth the headache. I had to spend 12 hours or more a day here to protect my husband and this is supposed to be a place where you trust them to take care of your loved one.

The care and treatment here at Select Medical Care in Akron was absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! I can't describe how amazing the Doctors, Nurses, Case Management, Dietary and Housekeeping are at this hospital. I was really scared when I was told that I had to go to a wound hospital for 6 weeks. I didn't know what to expect and it was definitely scary. It was exceptionally clean and well staffed. The nurses were amazing!! Althea, Anthea and Barb are amazing at the wound treatment and changing the wound vac. The doctors updates the patient everyday. They all took really excellent care of me. I will be forever grateful to all the staff. I highly recommend Select Medical Care in Akron.

My mother-in-law was seriously neglected at this facility. They didn’t even help to brush her hair and it was matted so badly we had to just cut it off. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Staff is excellent in all areas. On the downside the coffee and food suck. But for overall healing experience I would recommend to everyone. The staff and doctors are so nice and helpful. I came here from hospice care because of the staff and God I'm getting ready to go home, that should say it all.

This place treated my husband amazingly. He woke up paralyzed In Aug 2022 and ending up stay at Select Specialty in Akron for 81 days (if still discharged this coming Monday) after a 3.5 week ICU stay. He made a lot of progress while here. We had a few bumps along the road with a couple isolated staff members but it was handled well by their superiors so I wouldn't hold it against the hospital in general. Overall though the staff here is caring, encouraging, positive and always looking out for the patient's best interests and explaining things to patients and families very well. Their friendly nursing teams, respitory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, advocates, wound care nurses, case managers and the doctors are always there and super helpful! Special shoutouts for going above and beyond and making my husbands recovery journey easier and as fun as possible go to: Dr. Patel, Sarah M (ST), Sanah (RT), Kelly (RT), Karla (RT), Glenda (Advocate), Susan (RN), Joy (RN), Brian (RN), Lataysha (CNA), Kerrie (CNA), Alexis (CNA), Ryan (CNA), Dallas (PT), Toni (OT), Peggy (Wound Care) and so MANY more CNAs, RNs, RTs and Doctors.. for all of the great care and compassion and 'pushes' when needed! They got my husband off the ventilator and got his body moving again so that he's finally ready to go to rehabilitation! So many people have popped in even when not assigned to his room to check in on him and once they found out he's leaving soon even dropped by to say goodbye and wish him well! This is a great facility and your loved one will be very well cared for! I couldn't have asked for a better critical care facility for my husband. Thank you all so much! We will be back to visit for sure and show off his recovery!

My experience with the team that is taking care of my loved one is so informative, and some of the best bed side manners I’ve ever seen. She’s always cleaned up and ready for the day. I appreciate this place so much

Food terrible. High carb, high sugar overcooked. A girl takes your food order and you never get what you order. They are too cheap to serve beef. Chicken Chili, turkey burgers etc. If you get a dessert you will not get coffee or milk to drink with it only diet soda, and with coffee only cheap coffee mate, not half and half. Charge a fortune for profits. Getting finger stuck for glucose, not diabetic. Said I was on prednisone but not on it. Stuck for nothing for 3 days. Nurses are short staffed and aids non existent. A lot act like they hate their jobs. Bed broke and couldn't move my meal tray under it and never did get me a bed. Average care , subpar food, below nursing home. They don't carry high protein low sugar ensure, atkins, etc. Only 22g sugar Ensure . Physical therapy,OT were good people. Respiratory. After 25 years retired working in a hospital avg floor care and a very competent cardiologist and some other doctors. My advice is if you have family bring fast food hand sanitizer, etc and get better nutrition UPDATE: Food issue was never resolved and dietary orders were never corrected after talking to administrative staff. If you like a bottle of water with desserts and not coffee or milk then you will love it here. If you are on a sugar-free diet and like to get sugary foods you are in the right place.
