Awesome location, it sits on CWRU. The actual brewpub is located inside Thwing Center. You will need to park on the street surrounding or you could park in the university hospital parking ramp and walk over. The atmosphere is fun and inviting, spacious and great music 🎶 🎵. Service was prompt and welcoming. I'd recommend checking this place out for a drink or a milkshake!

I absolutely loved this place! Service, food and beer was spectacular. If you have a hard time finding it, park by the East entrance and go in that way. Just walk straight and you'll see it on the right no problem.

Whenever I feel nostalgic about the amazing time I spent cramming for tests in the university, I head on over to the Jolly Scholar. I love the vibe and their huge selection of beers. I also like the collegiate terminology that they use to name their beers like ‘emeritus’, etc. I love their Jolly Spritz and the jolly blonde ale that are perfect for summer. But, most of all, I love their vegan chicken nuggets that are made out of mushrooms. You will not believe how amazing these are - they taste absolutely like the real chicken nuggets and even better!!! I couldn’t believe that this was not chicken!!! Go check this place out - it’s absolutely fantastic!!

It was nice to have late dinner here. Also, I could use student meal plan swipe. One downside is that sometimes grubhub doesn't work when I try to order foods in advance, especially when trying to use more than one meal swipe

For whatever CWRU does not have, it does have a pub with a microbrewery in tow in the campus. Jolly Scholar is a fun place to hang out after work/school with several of their brews bordering on greatness. Shout out to their amber ale as well as their IPA, aptly titled Experimental research. Oh with that beer, do get their fries and onion rings and if you are really hungry after a hard day of research, their wings! They have vegan wings too, in case you were wondering

When I first looked up this place I didn't realize it was an on campus restaurant/ bar. Unfortunately, everything from the service to the quality of the food was what you'd expect from an on-campus college restaurant. Service: The waitress was bad. I'm talking real bad, Michael Jackson. She wasn't rude in fact she was quite nice but she was running around like it was her first week on the job (we later confirmedshe had been there a few months), messing up orders not bringing food out forgetting about drinks. One of the people at my table literally had to wait about 45 mins for her food (pizza) and drink. The drinks were taking so long some of us went directly to the bar and got drinks right away. When I asked the bartender why he said it was because he serves his bar customers first since they tip him directly we tip the servers. Food: It was bad. Wings were fried hard, my wife's food came out ice cold. Finally when it came time to leave the waitress wouldn't show up to bring the checks. She brought one check but there were about 8 of us. So we waited about 30 mins to get checks but then they were all wrong. Had to literally write out what we ordered and wait around another 30 mins for her to correct the check. Finally they had a nerve to put an automatic 18% gratuity on our checks for that terrible service. The only good thing about my experience was that my drink was good. If the sever was able to get drinks out in a timely fashion, I would have ordered another. ***5/11 - Review edited/updated. I visited again and sat at the bar this time. The service was much better and the two items I ordered pretzels and burger tasted decent. The drinks were good ad they were the first time and for a good price.

The place has a great atmosphere. And the food that I tried normally comes out pretty good. The wings are hit and miss. **They have something called a pile of onion rings or something close to that please see the picture below. I think we counted six or seven. Sauce however that comes with it is amazing. The beer is reasonably priced and all around not a bad place. ****However if you go there with possibly more than six or eight people expect to wait 20 minutes for a beer and possibly 45 for your food. I have contacted the place via email from their site to see we can how to rectify this problem. I do like going there with a group however every time we do we all tell each other we should never do this again because of how long things go for it. Basically if you sit at a table and you actually want to get a beer and under 20 minutes you need to go to the bar and pay with cash. Edit. Went again. Just sit at the bar, skip the onion rings. As I end all my reviews and just not affect the rating. No military discount

I stop by a couple of weeks ago to buy a cheeseburger and French fries. Had to admit it was good. The place inside Case Western Reserve University's Thwing Student center is pretty cool. Menu has a variety of items to choose from. The bartender on duty was cool. Will definitely stop by again soon.

A cozy college bar with a wide selection of excellent beer brewed in-house.The bar food is consistently great, and provided there isn't a student event the service is good too. This bar has been a staple of the Case campus for decades (Wackadoos anyone?) and should be remembered fondly by pretty much anyone who spent way too much time studying across the concourse at KSL. Come to enjoy the beer you can't get anywhere else and don't forget to tip your student servers well.

Not very good today. Harvest salad was soggy, small, and light on toppings for $8.50. Used GrubHub and pick-up. It was ready pretty quickly, I guess, but it looks like it was pre-mixed with the dressing quite a while ago and then scooped into the to-go container. The dijon vinaigrette has quite a bit of heat to it. Probably won’t get this again.

Great in house beers at an unbeatable price. $4.50 a pint. Food and service are okay as they have a lot of student employees but it never takes away from the experience. Definitely my go to spot to grab a drink or socialize in university circle. Just wished they were open a bit later.

It's kind of tucked away in the University Circle area but a nice change of pace from the restaurants down the street. Worth a visit when the weather is good.

We visited from out of town and found this place with good reviews not realizing it was on a college campus. Having never been before, it was still relatively easy to find. Great beer and food at great prices!

The gist: likely a great dinner option, maybe not the best for lunch if you’re short on time. Went around lunch time with two families in August. It was very quiet and there seemed to be only a few people on wait staff- a server and a bartender. Service was on the slower side, but for only one waitress making rounds this was very understandable!! Food also took a decent amount of time but I’m assuming the kitchen staff was also limited. Despite all this, the food was delish and the atmosphere was great!! The visit was ultimately perfect for people wanting to catch up.

Nice place, great brews, and very good food. Be prepared to wait a but, when they're busy, though.

First off, I saw my icon here, my special advisor. A Friday night cant get better than this. The sweet potato fries had a special and unexpected kick- powdered sugar. You might be like ?? But it really made these fries stand out. Additionally, the honey mustard was good, if you like dilute honey mustards. Furthermore, um yes. The sweet potato fries felt like they weren’t winning the show but it’s not just about the fries. It’s a joint movement. Who do you think is the leader in this case? This leads me to a question… are sweet potato fries delicious because of the sauce? Is the sauce the moment? N/A. Respectfully, I think about you

During the holidays my family stopped in for some drinks and appetizers before visiting the area museums. The food was delicious, with quick, attentive service and the drinks were well made for the prices. It also nice to see the place decorated for several different holidays. It felt very inclusive and fun.

Changing my rating from 5 stars to 1 star because of the experience I've had during the two times I've visited after my initial visit. On my second visit to the place, I sat at a table and waited 20 minutes without receiving any service even though I was the ONLY person there. I finally left after a group of people came after me, was seated immediately, and received service within a minute or two. Decided to give the place another try because the food was good. Waited 10 minutes before being seated and another 10 before finally having my order taken. The place isn't busy at all; if it was, I'd at least understand. The only time I received immediate attention was when I finished my food and it was time to pay. Great food, but I was mad the entire time I was there.

Jolly scholar is probably the best spot for cheaper food items and drinks. Our drinks were mixed well and the staff was very sweet. You should Try the vegan wings , as a meat eater they tasted just like regular wings just healthier

Delicious! Great portions and tastey. It's definately a CWR hangout. Be prepared to pay extra to eat there. Our group of four paid ten dollars extra, but the service was very good. We saw a couple of tables of students with takeout, who didn't pay the upcharge, get chased out when they tried to eat at a table.

Always a good place to grab a quick bite. Portions are pretty small and getting smaller unfortunately, so I usually just plan on making it a between-meals snack. Pretzels and queso is probably the best thing on the menu here

Food is good but they're chronically understaffed. Several times I've gone and there's two people trying to cover the bar and tables, pouring, taking orders, and bringing out food. This makes the service fairly slow. Though the staff is always very nice. The bar is in a CWRU student center so it's a unique ambiance. That being said, it doesn't scream college bar. it's always more than young students. In fact, most times I've been there it's an older crowd. Do have indoor and outside seating (when nice out). When school is in session, they seem to do a lot of take out for students. That also may play a role in the longer wait times for food. Their drink options have since expanded again after COVID related supply issues. They've got their standard menu and then seasonal specials. I've always enjoyed the food. They have a nice mix of menu items. Some nice share-ables and great meals. I love their sweet potato fries friends love the falafel and kimchi fries.

Seat yourself. We seated ourself and waited. Then we asked staff if it was seat yourself and they said yes. And we waited. The waitress walked past our table five times. Sixth time we left.

A brewery on a college campus? Ok! But it feels like a brewery on a college campus. Like a little sterile, kind of like a union hall would be for any college. But good beer so who cares?!?! Didn't get food but they menu looks decent as did the food I saw getting delivered around me. Friendly staff. I like it.

I wish they were around when I went to Case. I usually come for weekday lunches when it's not very crowded and just eat at the bar. Service is always good, food is excellent, and they have old bay for the fries, which I enjoy. Good beer selection, too.

Please come here. My bf and I are out of towners from Texas and I am starting my masters program in the fall of ‘23 and came to here to get a feel of the lane. It’s amazing. The bartender was awesome and have such great suggestions for things to do and whatnot. I am coming here like every weekend when I move up here. I love it.

Quiet bar with excellent prices! I went on a Saturday afternoon so evenings and weeknights might be a different vibe since it's on campus.

As a true beer geek and foodie, I really enjoyed this place, and our waiter was terrific. Several regional IPA's, including an Imperial were on tap while I was there. They also offer milkshakes and other options to make the whole family happy. I chose the mushroom Swiss Burger which was different than others I've had, in that it also had bacon and a Sriracha mayo. They grind their own combination of meats for their burgers and it was terrific, and not over cooked. Others in my party had the Hangover Burger, Buffalo Chicken Quesadillas, Boneless Hot Wings, etc. All were very happy with their food. Excellent tap selection with beers styles for all tastes, including some their own, and in a very cool atmosphere.

The bartenders are kept busy but still friendly and know the products they serve. Food selections were a surprise - quite a variety - that include about 10 appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Little over priced - Burger and fries were tasty and worth the price of $7.99. The buffalo chicken quesadilla, chips, and side of salsa priced high @ $9.99. The beer selections are reasonably priced - some good IPAs, American beer @ $2.99, from light to heavy beers, and guest ciders. Fun activities and seasonal decorations make this a jolly place on the Case Western Campus.

👍 March 2022: Stopped here for lunch on a comp from the Jack Casino. They gave me $30 that I used to get the Double melt, tots, vanilla shake, and chili to go.
