Wonderful exploration into a bygone era A very authentic representation of the 1880’s to 1900 It’s a very important site as this was where Captain Louis Hope planted sugar cane

Not just a heritage home, but a genuinely significant one as the location where sugar was first cultivated in Australia. The interiors are superbly presented and very impressive with their pressed metal ceilings and fine collection of period furniture. A worthwhile Sunday outing for everyone.

This is a lovely historical building, with generous verandah, generous lawn, and garden areas, wipe sweeping views of the bay. There was a number of helpful volunteers attending, on the day I was visiting. The history and stories behind the Ormiston building was very educational. On some days, there are even historical cars on display in their lawn. Check on their website.

Only open Sun 12-4pm. Full tour of house built in 1800s takes approx 1h, at $8/pax, so come early enough to give yourself enough time before doors close before last tour. No specific time for tours, based on availability of volunteers who are extremely knowledgeable and patient. Our volunteer Debbie was really good! Unfortunately, many historic artefacts are lost and house is filled with donated items. Devonshire tea with scones are separate at $8/pax.

Well preserved house and outbuildings from a past era of colonial Queensland. Interesting looking at the history. Scones and tea/coffee on the verandah overlooking the water is nice (but on a busy day the coffee when served is often not hot, and is a little muddy).

Superb old big house with very high maintenance. You can see a lot of history through all the rooms. You can learn how people in the past lived without electricity there via old equipment shown. The garden is beautiful, neat and well maintained. The carpark is very close to the old historic house. The ticket is cheaper if you have a student ID. There is afternoon tea provided with a cost. There is a good looking church near the old house.

It use to be good a couple of years ago but now it's just another crack house in a slowly declining area. I loved taking my family here now look what it has become. Junkeys out front needles in the bushes. It's just sad

There is an atmosphere is peace and quiet at Ormiston House, partly from it being the genteel house of an aristocratic gentleman. And partly from the nearby Carmelite Nunnery. It really is a most beautiful spot and well worth a visit.

Ormiston House is a nice place to visit and bring the family. Beautiful gardens and the restoration/conservation of the interiors are very impressive. The place is not environmentally disable friendly. They don't have proper disable toilets and access around the house is by steps. They have folded ramps but nobody to place them, run by volunteers.
