Had such a fantastic time at the The Chocolatarium. All the chocolate was delicious - from the rich hot chocolate we were given first, to the ruby chocolate drops we were given at the end. The talk about chocolate was really interesting and timed well. Making my own chocolate was fun and the choice of toppings/fillings was good. They had a choice of milk, dark or white chocolate to make. The third part of the tour was in the tasting room. They gave us 4 chocolates from around the world and it was really interesting to see the differences in their taste. The only chocolate I didn't like was the 100% cacao - it was very bitter. We then got to choose as many different chocolates as we wanted to taste. Some of the flavours were very unique, whilst they had others that were common like raspberry and orange. Very good value for money and a fantastic experience for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

We attended the chocolate and wine experience on Dec. 2, 2022. The whole presentation was very well done, very interesting, and a lot of fun, and worth the price of the Wine & Chocolate Experience. Our host was wonderful. Very personable and friendly. We are from the Massachusetts, in United States, and this was our first trip to Scotland. We found out about the Chocolatarium on line while searching for things to do in Edinburgh. The tour and hands on participation lasted about 1.5 hours. You got to make your own chocolate candy and take it with you at the end. We had a very nice time there. Thanks to all the staff there. We enjoyed an amazing tour at the Chocolatarium! Sandy was an excellent guide who educated us on the evolution of chocolate ~ from 3000 BC to current day. We consumed a couple of interesting drinks (rendered from the seeds of the bean as well as its shell) and sampled a variety of different chocolates. All culminating in us making our very own molds! An educational and delicious experience. Highly recommend!!

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! We booked this experience for our last day of our trip, before heading home, as something to do. Can absolutely say it was the perfect event, and also very educational and interactive. Katy, our host, was a great sport and presented her knowledge to us very well. Don't worry, there is PLENTY of chocolate to eat on the event too! Making your own and tasting many different original source chocolates from scroll the world. Brilliant, and I could not recommend more. This company started up just before the pandemic, so getting yourself in and support them, you won't regret it - all very well supported with COVID regulations too.

Such a fun experience! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. Tasting the different chocolates and making a bar of our own was amazing. Out favorite was the milk chocolate honeycomb. It's hard to find outside this shop so make sure to stock up while you are there!

Fabulous time on our chocolate and wine experience. We would have enjoyed a regular tour just as much, if you aren’t interested in wine. Clare was an excellent host/guide. We learned so much. We enjoyed making chocolates and all of the options for chocolate tasting. This would be great for kids as well. We highly recommend this experience while you are in Edinburgh

Booked the chocolate tour with Chocolatarium at the last minute and was glad that I did. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of it. Pragathi was our guide and she did an excellent job. Very knowledgable and sweet. We got to learn a lot and taste so many different chocolates. We also got to make chocolate from different moulds and take it home as a souvenir. We had a lot of fun. Highly recommend it.

Had a great time at The Chocolatarium. Jennifer was a great guide, very friendly and answered all questions. Really enjoyed the chocolate making and all the different toppings we could add. The chocolate tasting at the end was great, again, loads of different flavours and chocolate % to choose from. Would highly recommend this tour.

We enjoyed our chocolate tour at the Chocolatarium. When you arrive, you can leave your personal belongings/coats etc in lockers which is good if you have been out shopping beforehand. Once the tour starts, you are seated in a small lecture style room where your host gives you a very informative and entertaining history of chocolate. you also get some nice samples and chocolate to drink while you wait! After this, you get to make your own chocolate bar. You head into the kitchen area where you learn about how modern chocolate is made and get to make you own chocolate bar(s) sampling various flavours and toppings. Once you have finished your chef magic, you head off to the last area where you are given more information about modern chocolate history as well as flavourings. You get an initial selection of chocolates to taste from various areas which are talked about and then you get to choose some more from a wide selection to try for yourself. Our host Lucy was excellent, very informative, entertaining and a pleasure to listen to. If you are visiting Edinburgh with a sweet tooth, this is a nice way to spend a couple of hours away from the shops and sightseeing. Recommended.

I had a very nice experience at the chocolate tour: lovely guide (Rafa), tasty chocolate, relevant information about the theme. Everything was very clean and organized. Making it easier to enjoy. Rafa was very pleasant, always cheering us up and making us feel excited about chocolate. My personal favourite was being able to create my own chocolate (format and toppings). It was really fun! And the tasting part was really nice with very different types of chocolate. At the end there is no way you are leaving without some chocolate, so have at least 10 pounds with you so you can make sure to take something with you. I totally recommend this experience. But this is not a must if you have few days in Edinburgh. Although, if you have more days or if you want to do something different: go for it! You will not regret it!

We had an amazing time with Michael as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and sweeter than some of the chocolate he will teach you about. This is about much more than just making a chocolate bar. The chocolate itself is good but the experience is amazing. Highly recommend. (Michael should get a raise ;)

This experience was truly exceptional!! Michael, our guide, was engaging and professional as he introduced our group to the history of chocolate and its evolution to the present day commodity as we know it. I especially appreciated the explanation of how the current market impacts the growers. We then enjoyed making our own bar to take home. Finally, our guided tasting illustrated the nuances of single sourced chocolate and introduced us the multiple variations available-from the traditional dark, milk, & white to maple bacon, haggis, & ghost pepper for the more adventurous taster! !!

We have been on two previous chocolate tours in St. Lucia and the Dominican Republic. This one was the best of all of them. Michael was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable, and overall funny person. You will sample many different chocolates and learn the history behind chocolate. Making a chocolate bar was a lot of fun in this extreme clean and sanitized facility. I would visit again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Interesting. Especially loved making my own bar from a great selection of flavours and quality/tasty dark chocolate. Mine was the best chocolate bar I've had in ages if I must say so myself. Scottish flag mould, honeycomb, caramel pebbles, salt and mocha sugar.

This was one of the most delightful parts of our trip to Edinburgh. Our guide Erin was so so lovely and accommodating. We learned so much about chocolate from different countries, and so much to taste test and try different things. You absolutely get your money's worth and everyone we spoke to and came across was so kind. I could not recommend this place more. Thank you so much!

Absolutely brilliant experience, so happy we booked this, couldn’t have asked for anything more! Bianca was a fantastic host, an asset to the business. She was very knowledgable, made it fun and memorable. The Chocolatarium was very clean, Extremely good value for money. Lots of choice of chocolates for tasting and all available for purchase in the shop at reasonable prices. A must visit attraction, just off the Main Street in Edinburgh, very central and close to the station. Highly recommend!

Me and my friend had a great experience. They take yOu through a Chocolate Story which is much sweeter than the chocolate itself. From sharing knowledge about origin of Chocolate from Coco beans to trying the very first chocolate recipe to making our own chocolates and trying out variety of chocolates. It was an wholesome experience.

Absolutely loved this tour. Took my teenage child who was sceptical about the experience but admitted afterwards, how much they enjoyed it Our host Erin, was extremely enthusiastic and you could tell how much she enjoyed her job. After a brief history and some delicious samples, we went to the kitchen and were given information about how chocolate is made before selecting our own moulds to make our own. There were a variety of toppings/fillers to choose from: chilli ,marshmallow and rose to name a few. We were given a card to write our names on and the name of our creation before being lead to a room to learn about how Aztecs enjoyed drinking chocolate and a handmade sample, along with samples of chocolate with various percentages of cocoa. We were then allowed to take samples of chocolate to eat from various display stands. Finally, we left to collect the chocolates we had made. There is a also shop which is quite expensive which you can peruse before and after the tour. The tour was well worth the money though, and I'd highly recommend it. Book beforehand as the tour had sold out.

Amazing experience! I don't even like chocolate and I enjoyed myself. Getting to make our own chocolate and trying different flavours from all over the world was fun and enjoyable. Some crazy flavours out there! My favourite was ice cream float. Keep up the amazing work. Love from Canada!

This was probably my favourite part of my trip to Edinburgh! The chocolate tour is SO much fun. Our guide, Katie, was really friendly and funny. You get so much free chocolate, hot chocolate, etc to taste. It’s such good value for money, and you even get to take home your own bar you make!! A really great way to spend some time if it’s raining in the city, a real highlight in Edinburgh.

Pre Booked this as a solo traveller and it was one of the best tours I've ever done. The tour guide Bianca was amazing, very friendly and helpful and very informative. Really enjoyed the tour and especially all the tasting I left very full and happy!! I got to taste all chocolate flavours, a sample hot chocolate and also a cocoa bean tea which was lovely to try. I loved making my own chocolate bar and we got to chose as many toppings as we want it's a lovely souvenir to bring home from my trip to Edinburgh. Highly recommend this tour.

Our tour was phenomenal. Our guide, a young Scottish woman with curly brown hair, was very entertaining. She engaged the participants and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the samples and creation. She was very sweet and a great Storyteller. The chocolate was amazing. Making our own bars was a definite plus.

We were escorted on the tour by the lovely Crow (yes, that is her name), she was chatty and friendly and welcoming and very knowledgeable. We got to taste lots of different types of chocolate and even make some of our own which we were then given at the end of the tour. What a great way to spend a few hours ☺️ Thank you Crow (and colleagues) xx

It was such an amazing experience. Long enough to get some knowledge and fun but not too long to get bored. There were 6 of us in different age groups and all of us end up enjoying this. We definitely recommend for everybody with not only chocolate hunger :D Katie- You are an amazing tutor!

We had an amazing time! Nicole was very knowledgeable and kind. We felt we learnt a lot and came out with bellies full of chocolate and the bar we made! Lots of different moulds to choose so you can make yourself a Scottish souvenir! Made our visit to Edinburgh memorable, very good value for money and I would highly recommend it!

The talk that we had about chocolate at the start of the experience was informative and interesting, then onto making your own chocolates, which was fun, and delicious chocolate was the result. Finally we had a tasting. Fab!! Some really unusual flavours too 🤪 We had a really good time. The group was friendly and the staff really helpful and polite. We got to take our chocolate home too. I would definitely recommend this activity. The cost was really reasonable as well. And just a last note, everything was done in a very covid careful manner.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at The Chocolatarium. The tour guide (pictured) was very informative, humorous and personable. The flavours and chocolates we tried were very tasty. Would definitely recommend, especially as you go away with your own chocolate bar(s)!

  • 5/5 Jeana M. 2 years ago on Google
The whole experience was great! When we first arrived we were greeted by Kelly who was warm and welcoming. We then sat down for a bit of education on where chocolate comes from, how it's harvested and sold, and how it is made. After some education (honestly, it was super interesting) we then got to make our own chocolate bars; we got to pick from a large selection of moulds and then pour out chocolate, choose our toppings and then they were popped into a cooler to form. From there we were lead into the tasting room where we were introduced to a plethora of different chocolate from all around the world, including the Aztec original hot chocolate, it was definitely an interesting take on the hot chocolate we are used to today. After that, we were able to visit the chocolate shop and pick from many delicious types of chocolates to bring home and we were also given the chocolate bars we made earlier. From start to finish this was a truly awesome experience, fun, interactive and delicious! I highly recommend you give this a try!

The chocolate tour is a fantastic experience. It's about an hour and a half of talking about the chocolate making process, making your own chocolate with tons of toppings and a LOT of tasting chocolate at the end. Our host Frazer was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

  • 5/5 Stephanie L. 2 years ago on Google
We loved this chocolate tour! We learned about how chocolate is made, created our own chocolate bars, and tasted unique chocolates from all over. They had some really interesting flavors—highlights include haggis flavored chocolate, chili chocolate, and maple bacon chocolate. Fraser was a fantastic tour guide and they have a great selection. Super warm, welcoming vibes in the chocolatarium!
