Took our one year old son on a Saturday, was practically empty. Admission price is a bit steep for what's there to be honest but it was still something to do and all the staff there were nice and friendly. Something to do if your little ones have an interest in fire engines. No need to buy tickets in advance.

An excellent museum with details of fire fighting across the years. Some unique exhibits that you are asked not to touch or climb on but there are plenty that you can touch. Kids can try on helmets and uniforms, also sit in the drivers seat of a real fire engine. Lots of interaction for kids and adults. There is also a very nice café with good choice of snacks.

My 4 year old boy LOVED his trip to the Fire Ground, especially the kiddie friendly fireman’s pole and sitting in the drivers seat of a real fire engine! The exhibits are well presented and very interesting and the cafe sells a delicious range of snacks and drinks. The guys who run the place are fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. We stayed for over 2 hours and my boy wanted to stay another two.

We visited on a Saturday morning as soon as it opened , with our son who has autism. We were lucky as it was still quiet then, we had the whole place more or less to ourselves. We absolutely loved our visit. This was our first of many ") My son is really into fire engines at the moment and this was the perfect place. It was very interactive, there were fireman props children could try on and role play, a fire engine interactive game which was loads of fun, some steps with a fireman pole to slide down for the kids which we tried! There were fire engines that you could climb inside and have a look at close up. There's a shop at the entrance with so many cool emergency vehicles and books etc and there's also a cafe. The staff were absolutely brilliant. They were so welcoming and very friendly. We had a great time overall. I highly recommend it. Definitely coming back again soon ")

Fantastic place, excellent value for money, we was lucky to get a volunteer Dave to talk to us about all the engines and the history our granddaughters love it. Cafe for us had a very limited menu, but what we choose was nice. The little gift shop again was great value and all three girls got a little gift, Matilda couldn’t wait to get home to colour in her picture she picked. Will defiantly be back

I took my 3 year old boy because we had an hour spare after a train journey. What a fabulous little museum! A friend's dad was a firefighter here when we were young so I'd been excited to visit. My little boy loved it. There are some beautifully engineered antique vehicles and a more modern one with examples of firefighting kit through the ages, and great interactive bits for the kids, including a pole!

Great museum with lots of kit and information for adults and plenty of interactive stuff for kids. Run by volunteers most of whom are ex firefighters themselves willing to give their time and share a wealth of knowledge and fascinating stories. Great place to go, would highly recommend.

We had a really wonderful day here with 5 children 7 and under. They loved all the opportunities to explore. The museum is well thought out and arranged with all ages considered. The displays are informative and the range of history covered was excellent, especially for a small museum. The cafe served delicious cake, ice cream and tea at really reasonable prices. The staff were really friendly and knew such a lot. Really recommend.

The fire museum has made an incredible move from the old shed it used to be crammed into now using the Rochdale's old fire station. The exhibits and information provided are invaluable to the education of children and the young at heart. A bit pricey for admission but we'll worth it. Very friendly helpful staff always on hand with massive amounts of knowledge.

Visited here recently with my 2 young children and they loved it! It's a lovely building and great to look back at all the old fire engines, equiptment and uniforms that have been used throughout the years. Staff are really friendly too and we had a great tour guide. Theres loads to do for children, the firemans pole was a big hit as was the virtual fire engine. They also got to sit in a real fire engine which they were thrilled about, they could've stayed there all day! The cafe is also really nice especially the cakes! Definitely worth planning a visit.

The museum has plenty to entertain my grandchildren , dress up firemen's outfits , interactive driving game , a fire engine they can go on . This museum is one we will visit regularly as they grow and shows more interest in some of the smaller exhibit s

Absolutely enthralling exhibition of past fire equipment and fire engines and really educational for adults and children. A must to appreciate our past and present fire heroes. Guided by a great individual David who made the whole trip a glorious day for myself, my adult son, and my grandson. The cafe is reasonably priced and again the place is a must for all.

This is a real hidden gem. We spent 3 hours here and had the best time. The enthusiastic knowledgeable staff are all wonderful, thoughtful caring people who love nothing more than sharing thier knowledge and experiences and seem to take the time to speak to every visitor. The kids enjoyed it as did the adults. We will definitely return. Thank you all.

Such a lovely place. We took our 2.5 year old who has a real interest in fire engines right now and he loved it. We spent two hours there on a Saturday afternoon. Fab staff, just perfect levels of interaction, great for adults too. We will be back :)

Fantastic place for anyone remotely interested in the fire service. Ample free parking. Wonderful friendly helpful staff. Great facilities including a cafe. All set in a former fire station. So much to see and do for the whole family. Kids love the games for them. Like sliding down the pole, dressing up and best of all sitting in a fire engine.. at the same time adults can learn about the amazing history of the fire service with so much information to read. Knowledge staff always on hand to answer any questions. Definitely visit if you can.

  • 5/5 Rebecca L. 1 year ago on Google

What a day out. The entrance price is reasonable and well priced for such a museum. Placed next to the train station and the tram stops. We traveled from Hebden Bridge on the train. We did notice a large car park at the rear of the museum which was sign posted. The museum is an old fire station with fire engines from the past and other equipment. Kids driving games are good. The museum staff are all volunteers who are ex-fire fighters. That makes the difference. This makes the whole visit really enjoyable. The volunteers have loads of storeys and can explain what each piece of equipment was used for. There is so much to see in an old fire station and listen to. These volunteers are really worth their weight in gold. So many museums have staff who have some knowledge of the museums history, this one has volunteers who served and knew the station when it was active. We had a near personal tour. The cafe is nice and really well priced. A family day out. My son dressed up in a fire fighter's uniform. So did my wife. We loved it. Really is recommended. We will be visiting again.

A fantastic afternoon spent at the museum with our four year old who loved the interactive exhibits. A big shout out to volunteer and ex-fireman Les Reid for his captivating and emotive insights into the world of firefighting. They really struck a chord, brought everything to life and enhanced the experience. He and the rest of the team are a real credit to the museum. Will definitely return and thoroughly recommend! An added bonus was the lovely sweet treats and coffee in the onsite cafe 👍

We had a marvellous visit. The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable. The exhibits were impressive and child friendly as I had my 2 year old granddaughter with me. The food was very good also. Well done!

We all had a great time, lots of friendly former (and even active?) firemen sharing stories with the children. They were showing a car extraction procedure on the car park, flipping the car over and cutting the roof to evacuate a passenger with explanations of each step. I don’t know how often they do it but we felt very lucky to see it. We will definitely visit again.
