Please don't use this place as your GP I know the university of Liverpool recommend this place for all it's students but if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, or if you're concerned about your mental health, register with a different one. The way the practice is organised seems really counterintuitive and it feels like it's managed without any regard for the patients experience.

AVOID DR EDWARD S GAYNOR I'm a young female university student. I needed an emergency doctor appointment after being in crisis in the early morning yesterday. A doctor called (didn't know their name at the time), he sounded like an older male, I told him about my depression timeline and suicide attempts. I was nervous talking to him since last time I willingly had a male doctor was 6 years ago (the last male doctor spoke horribly to me). I mentioned my American fiancé supporting me throughout, and he replied: "You're not really helping yourself having an American fiancé." I was taken back by this comment and felt like I had to validate everything else I had to say after this. I called the doctors again this morning asking the receptionist for female doctor instead and to cancel the appointment with the male doctor since I was uncomfortable, explaining what happened, he replied: "The doctor you spoke to is one of the top doctors in the GP, I doubt he actually said that." I feel doubted, belittled and hopeless to chase up about my mental health now. I've filed a complaint about this situation. Overall, if you're concerned about your mental health, avoid Dr Edward S Gaynor. Put a really bad impression on the GP since he's "one of the top doctors"...

The only way to get in touch is to sumbit an e consultation between the hours of 8am and 12pm so a four hour window. The GP practice clearly knows what it's doing they get paid a set amount per patient so they vastly over subscribe themselves and despite having the funds to have a larger staff they prefer tactics such as delaying people getting help and untill they get better regardless or are I'll enough to go to a and e. Never once have I found myself satisfied with the spead at which I can get in touch with them, it would be one thing if they prominently displayed there hours but instead the opening hours of the building are different to the opening hours of the way you get diagnosed. So it takes three days of trail and error for you to figure out what's going on, during which time they love to direct you to 111 this removing there staffing burden.

I was supposed to have a phone call appointment today and the doctor never called me. I’ve been trying to get help with my problem for a month now and every call I’ve made has been ignored. This is just for a minor thing, but when it comes to things like my mental health - which is severe, I don’t even bother with this GP. I’ve made e consult forms about my depression that have gone unacknowledged, so I’ve had to phone 111 who recognise how severe my issue is and direct me to crisis lines. It isn’t good at all when so many students struggle with their mental health but can’t even get contacted about their appointment because their GP doesn’t care. How does that help my depression? My sense of worthlessness? It all sounds so angsty to even write this out but compared to my last doctor, this is a joke. The e consultations I’d make with her would be responded to within a few hours and she was a solo practitioner.

Tried to arrange an appointment when I had a kidney infection and was seriously ill on multiple occasions and was told every time that there were no more appointments or that phone lines were closing soon so I could not speak to anyone despite it being early in the day on all occasions. I was not offered any medical advice or told to ring 111 instead/ go to a walk in clinic or A&E. I ended up in hospital for 5 days with sepsis and a kidney infection. This was all preventable however my concerns were completely ignored by Brownlow. Shocking.

Cancelled appointments the day before, failed to put through refferals to the hospital even when chased up, failed to ring at all for a telephone appointment. Completely fobbing off students who in many cases are away from home using the doctors on their own for the first time, very disappointed.

Would give less than 1* I have a condition where there is 14 different types, I have one type. However, I’m currently having problems with my heart so seeing a cardiologist. There’s a type that affects the heart so my cardiologist asked the GP to refer me for genetics. GP didn’t get in contact for over a month, I had to ring them they said it had been missed. Anyways I got to speak to Dr Buchanan about it, she said she wouldn’t refer me straight away she would ask for advice first. I then receive a text saying she’s not going to refer me for genetics because I meet the criteria for the type I already have. Well obviously… she didn’t bother to ring to discuss it, just sent a text that didn’t allow texts back. Oh and you can’t call them after 12pm either.

If I could give no stars then I would. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional GP's who clearly know nothing about Diabetes. They postposoned my prescription without any communication leaving me with 4 needles left to administrate insulin into my body because my prescription was ordered to early by myself. How dare you tell a diabetic how many needles she can use pair day, that is like me telling you to only eat 3 times a day. Cleary no knowledge on diabetes as the GP I spoke to asked me 'if I reuse my needles' which goes to show they have no understanding of type 1 diabetes or care about the health and safety of their patients as no professional practitioner would ever advice using needles more than once as this can cause infection and lumps on the skin. I shouldn't have to go through this process every time I order a prescription, it makes diabetes even harder to deal with when I'm fighting for life saving equipment. Unless you live within someone who has diabetes or have diabetes yourself, you don't know what it's like, no degree can make you understand how GP's make their patients feel when they have to fight for their prescription, a prescription that keeps them alive. FOUR needles I had left its disgusting to leave your patient in that position. When I order a prescription its because I'm low on stock, did that thought ever enter your head? Richard who I was speaking to on the phone also buttoned the call without even allowing me to finish our discussion even though it was his mistake, asking me to ring the pharmacy because 'he was too busy' Appalling behaviour, shouldn't be allowed to practise with a disgusting and unsympathetic behaviour. If you're thinking of moving doctors surgeries, don't chose Brownlow if you want to be treated like rubbish!

I phoned the GP about my issue and was told I could be referred to the royal hospital for an ECG however when I went to the hospital they did not have me on their system. I phoned the GP and after about 30 mins I was told by the receptionist that I would be put on the system and that it would be “instant”, I’m then phoned by a doctor and asked questions regarding my ECG and told it’s fine and she will do the referral. After 1 hour of waiting I was still not on the system and because of exams I wasn’t able to go again that week and I don’t have the money to keep travelling. I was also told I could have a blood test but my appointment for that was cancelled and they gave me another one at a different surgery, further away, which I have never been to and they are aware I suffer from bad anxiety. I was also supposed to have a routine check up appointment over the phone and they never called.

Possibly the worst GP to exist, it is impossible to make an appointment or even get an 'e-consultation' as the website says they can only be made during 'opening hours', even when you try to book during opening hours, the phone number never puts you through to reception either so don't bother. On the occasions i have had an appointment (pre-covid) the doctor brushed off my symptoms as 'fresher flu' and i ended up in hospital with pneumonia. For your own health register at another doctors that isn't the Brownlow group.

Extremely condescending and rude receptionist; kept making snarky little remarks about my situation over the phone when I was trying to book an appointment and had no understanding of mental health or why I might be in the situation I was in, despite me explaining this to her twice. Couldn't book me in for 2 weeks which is probably not her fault but she was very snippy and rude about it. I have never had service this bad with any other GP, and it's a shame because I now have to go further afield to seek medical attention that I need as soon as I can get it.

I feel that if people are coming here, they need help. They already have too much on their plate to deal with; I know I have. I thought the people who greeted me at the reception were very cold... I felt that I was treated like a problem to be dealt with. It's their job, I don't want to be considered a bother, you are being paid for this, as a service to the university: which I have paid to attend. If you're going to work in this industry I just feel you could be a bit more friendly and polite. I know life can be hard at times, life has been very hard to me lately, but that isn't an excuse to act in such a way.

I understand GPs are busy however I called first thing Friday morning (8am) and was told a doctor would call me back to triage me and I was not called. After 4 it's for emergency calls only; although mine isn't an emergency I have been living quite uncomfortably the last 8 days and now it's the weekend, this practise is closed and I have no clue what to do. Don't say I will get a call if I am not because I waited all day when I could have gone to a walk in

Completely incompetent service. I ordered my repeat prescription for anti seizure medication which I am supposed to get after 2 days, sometimes I’ve had to wait longer but this time was shocking! I’ve had to wait a whole week and had no word whatsoever. I went to the pharmacy twice in the space of the week to see if they had been delivered but they received nothing. I then rang up to make an enquiry about the delay and the GP was adamant that they had been delivered. I’ve had to call 111 to get an emergency prescription as it is vital I receive my medication otherwise one missed dose can cause me to have a seizure. That emergency pack would only last me three days which I hoped I would have my meds delivered before I finished but I still had nothing. No longer trust this service to get me my order on time.

useless healthcare facility. They dont even pick our calls for an appointment This is why they have charged international students for the IHS fee and not giving them good service Didnt expect this kind of behaviour from the Brownlow student health. I won’t prefer this place for anyone now Expected waiting time says 35mins just for them to attend the call at 8am when they have just opened the Clinic

Despite all the other reviews I have personally found the staff here to be very kind and helpful. Very understanding of my problems and accommodating. They have always seen me in a timely manner and were always very polite.

Honestly not surprised at all the negative reviews here. I've never personally had a problem with the way I've been treated like a lot of people seem to be complaining about, but the organisation of this place is just appalling. I've never (I repeat - NEVER) had Brownlow Health get back to me when they've said they would. Whether it be online consultation, an update from a Doctor, or a promised email to let me know medication has arrived, I've always been the one to call up weeks later asking what's going on. I'm not sure what the processes are in terms of how the practice is managed, but they're clearly not working. I've thankfully only ever had to wait for asthma-related updates at worst, but I can't imagine being a student with something serious. I'd be so worried.

The booking system is horrible the e consults are always closed so early in the day It takes forever to get through on the phone after a lengthy recorded speech And to top it all off when the doctors call you if you don’t answer immediately they hang up Then they may call you back again later but only if you’re lucky

I have been on the pill for over 4 years and recently have been told I shouldn’t be on it because of my mums history, even though I have been tested and don’t have the gene she has, meaning I am not at risk. I was booked in for a telephone appointment during Easter holidays (when they’re not open as it’s term holidays) so they never rang me. I can’t ring them or do an e-consult as there’s no one there to reply. It’s ridiculous to be closed during term holidays as people still need the doctor during easter, summer and christmas, and there are people still on campus.

I input my issue on the online consultation and received a call to make an appointment the very next day. My appointment wasn't urgent so I had one booked for two weeks. My appointment was great, swift and very helpful.

First time here. Normally at Ropewalks. Staff were quite but I don't mind. Issue lies with their system for calling in patients. The screen that is meant to direct patients to the room niether has a big enough screen to be obvious nor does it have an audio alert to say anything is being displayed. When I arrived it looked like it wasn't in use as it had a black screen. Chester's Garden Lane practice uses a much better system that has a PowerPoint running with useful information and when a patient is called it pings and flashes the name and room. I feel like a slight rework of the system to be more like that would be benifitial

Graham Morrison wasnt much help. Brushed off my issue within 30 seconds after waiting 7 hours for a call back. Wouldnt recommend. Its got a 1.9 star rating for a reason...

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I truly cannot believe the level of carelessness of this GP. I contacted the GP as I’m experiencing recurring thrush. They set up an appointment for me to meet with a gynaecologist in 2 weeks. I was in a lot of pain so took a one time use thrush pill (as usual) and by the time I met with the gynaecologist I no longer had thrush symptoms. She said she could not write me a prescription because I didn’t have symptoms at the time. I got it again 2 days later. I talked to a pharmacist and they advised that a GP should be able to write me a prescription for recurring thrush without a gynaecologist and were appalled that I was left to deal with my symptoms alone (thrush every 2 weeks for 6 months) then got back in touch a few days later. The GP wrote me a prescription for Fluconazole. The instructions for Fluconazole (both on the leaflet and the Chemist Cares website) state that I should NOT take this if I have had thrush more than 2x in the past 6 months (which I clearly have, as expressed multiple times). I was also told to take another dose after 3 days if my symptoms had not cleared up. Again, the instructions state to not take another dose until 7 days after (too late now, I’ve already taken 2). I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to get help. I’m in pain, bleeding, so upset and embarrassed, and have literally nowhere to go for help unless I can fork up the money to go private. Honestly, a joke.

Was attended to by Dr Jennifer Smith. She was wonderful and courteous. Had an overall good experience. Procedure went seamlessly. Just a minor observation- since the student health clinic has now moved from the university campus to Pembroke, it would be helpful to update the website accordingly on this change of venue.
