It’s good, not great. I was expecting more in-depth info about local culture and more detailed info on Tiwanaku, but all I found was a sweet guide who tried it real hard. Lots of vases and pots, one gorgeous little statue called Illa de Ekeko.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, the fact that it is not possible to film or photograph already spoils the tour. I think that if we divulge the collection in photographs we will be helping to divulge and arouse the interest of other people for visitation. This ban was very fresh, which is why I didn't go in particularly and I don't recommend it either.

(Translated by Google) The National Museum of Archeology of Bolivia is an integral part of the National Institute of Aqueology, a specialized body of the Vice Ministry of Culture. To speak of the National Museum of Archeology is to go back a century and a half in time to honor the memory of distinguished citizens and value their concern to preserve physical testimonies of those who preceded us. One of these men was Monsignor José Manuel Indaburo who, through many years of sacrificed labor, managed to assemble a collection made up of archaeological objects, ethnographic natural sciences, etc., which he donated to the people of La Paz with the purpose of forming a museum in this city. During the turbulent years of the government chaired by the winner of Ingavi, General José Ballivian, and specifically on Saturday June 13, 1846, in one of the rooms of the Municipal Theater, located on Calle Genaro Sanjinés, a "PUBLIC MUSEUM "whose first director was Dr. Manuel Fernández de Córdova. In 1919, during the government of Don José Gutíerrez Guerra, the lease of the Tiwanaku Palace was approved so that the National and Mineralogical Museums would function in this building. In 1922 by Supreme Resolution of May 22 of that year, the Baptist President Saavedra agreed and authorized the purchase of the building and its form of payment with the favorable vote of Parliament. This purchase was ratified by resolution of August 26, 1922, and passed definitively to the Bolivian state. Until the beginning of the year 1959 it maintained its multi-disciplinary status. After a careful study by Dr. Carlos Ponce Sanginés who was the Director of the Center for Archaeological Research in Tiwanacu and the director of the Museum, Arch. Gregorio Cordero Miranda, on January 31, 1960, was reopened with the name of "NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY" delegating other specialties to the various existing museums and promoting the creation of new ones. Thanks to research and careful excavation work, more than 50,000 archaeological pieces of cultures were accumulated, both from the eastern or flat areas and from the western or mountainous areas. This is broadly the history of the National Museum of Archeology that in a year will be a century and a half old. This museum in broad strokes, the NATIONAL HISTORY OF ARCHEOLOGY that has more than a century and a half of existence. This museum, like ours in our country, was born in a fuzzy time; like Bolivia, it has gone through difficult circumstances and has reached maturity ready to continue contributing to the cultural development of Bolivia (Original) El Museo Nacional de Arqueología de Bolivia , es parte integrante del Instituto Nacional de Aqueología, organismo especializado del Viceministerio de Cultura. 20.Jan 2023 The museum is still closed, apparently since the pandemia. According to the guard/police most liklely for another month. Google maps and the facebook presence of the museum have "mummified" the old opening hours. Try to call the museum or touristinfo before wasting an hour to get there. Don't trust internet information about opening hours, they are archeologists... they tend to be outdated.

one of the best uses of virtual reality headsets for interactive 3d visualization that you can find anywhere: you can observe life in the old times of Incallajta. otherwise a small fine museum about the Inca, Tiwanaku and other civilizations, some English signage. 15bs foreigner tickets

I thought it was expensive for the sample it has. For a National Museum, it is very poor. I visited better ones in Sucre and much cheaper. With a more interesting collection. The truth is that it is a very bad museum in the capital. Going to other museums has not been extraordinary for me and I feel like I wasted my money.

(Translated by Google) The collection is spectacular, especially the Pariti pieces and the chullpas. The Tiwanacota palace is a beautiful inheritance from Posnansky to Bolivia. However, substantial modifications have been made to the property, which alters its beauty. The curatorial process has been speculative, the pieces are not correctly identified, there is a lack of provenance data, dating, in some cases, materials, so it loses part of its scientific contribution and many are poorly presented, too much light does not allow the objects to be appreciated . The tour is confusing and offers little information. To make matters worse, the attention is terrible, if you have marked indigenous features, it is very possible that the "caretakers" follow you as if you wanted to steal something, which they do not do with visitors with noticeably different features. Worse still, with 45 minutes to go until closing time, the "minders" rudely rush visitors to finish the tour, giving them the impression of wanting to kick them out. I hope they properly train the staff so that the experience is pleasant, learning and reflecting on our cultural heritage, since the MUNARQ has an invaluable collection of objects of great archaeological value, and is not remembered as an unpleasant discriminatory eviction. The visit to the MUNARQ is an obligatory stop in the city, but it will be necessary to prepare to support the staff.
