Nice place to visit when in need of art. Unfortunately not very intuitively and clearly organized. They have a permanent gallery with paintings from Grigorescu, Luchian, Paciurea and more, and temporary exhibitions, where sometimes you can find real art gems. The building architecture, inside, outside and the inner courtyard is something to see. The staff is very polite, but unfortunately sometimes they give you the feeling that you stepped back in time, in communism. They are not at fault. It's the system they work in. But all considered, it's really worth getting in.

The personnel working here is very rude is just creating a bad vibe ,I wanted to take some photos outside and they told me that I am not allowed,I’ve been visiting lots of museums in lot of other countries and I was never stoped to take pictures outside .Then I wanted to sit down where there were sofas to sit and they told me that I am not allowed to sit either. I guess is still lots of communism lying around here ,I guess the stuff should be more friendly. Very disappointed of the experience overall.

Tried to visit on 20.06.2021, at two different times. The gates were locked although according to the opening schedule it should have been open. Although a public holiday, no announcement of closure whatsoever on FB or website either. Also, in the courtyard there is a huge aggressive german shepherd which barks at passers by and might very well bite them through the gate. That dog deserves a better home with loving owners.

I especially liked the temporary exhibitions but the permanent one had some nice pieces as well. Even the local artists had some good paintings among the more known ones like Luchian and Grigorescu. The building is pretty old, and it has wooden floors which are very squeaky :))) so tread carefully around so they don't cause much noise

The museum contains some beautiful paintings from romanian artists like Grigorescu or Aman, which are definitely worth seeing. Unfortunately no information about the paintings is provided, either written or as audio guide. The rude staff however makes visits to the museum unbearable. If they catch you sitting down, staff will come and berate you for not looking at the paintings, as if you were 6 years old. One wonders why they bother putting couches in front of paintings if one is not supposed to sit on them. When you are looking at the paintings, staff members follow you around breathing down your neck. It is an unpleasant museum stuck in communist times. Not worth the ticket price and surely not the time.

Wonderful building. Beautiful interior. This is a place that hosts all sorts of out of the ordinary events for the bohemian part of society. It's not just a gallery, but a place where you can enjoy shows regularly, book launches, concerts, etc.

Tuesday June 13th, 2023. No markings for the entrance to the museum. After asking some people who were working on an event for TIFF they pointed us to walk through a display that they were setting up. 3 staircases, 2 going up, one marked entrance had an accordion iron gate locked, the other one was marked exit. The stairs going down were pointing towards a temporary exhibition. We went downstairs and there was a small, strange themed display of photographs called something like Pride and Concrete. Some young people, looking like students, were lounging around on beanbags and said that we could find the entrance to the permanent exhibit of the museum by going up the exit stairs. We went up and all doors were locked, nobody was around. I didn’t even realize that we were in the Banffy house until I read some of the comments here on google maps. Extremely disappointed.

Great art collection. They need proper signs to get to the ticket sales office. Was a bit confusing. There are lovely paintings and sculptures : Tonitza, Grigorescu, Pallady, Luchian, Paciurea, Petrascu etc

Quite a huge art collection but lacking in instruction and guideline for the collection. Only the architectural exhibition did some info for the visitors. In general just nice for seeing around but does not really provide an insight into art history nor bringing to discussion

A nice small collection of Romanian art. There is a tax if you take photos of the paintings. Still can't work out if she was being serious with me or not.

The art in itself is beautiful, but the building is not well maintained. There are no audio guides, it gets very boring after 2-3 rooms. No air conditioning/clima. Romanian cultural authorities are underfunding these institutions, Museum employees unfortunately can't change most of these aspects.

I liked a lot. Ticket price 20lei, photo ticket 20lei. Painting postcard 1 lei. Ticket office is in 2nd floor, please go upstairs. It's big inside. The famous Romanian painter Nicolae grigorescu paintings are there.

The art is beautiful but the museum gets boring very fast. There is no context or anything about the romanian art history or the artists that are shown in the museum. I hope they get funds to make this museum what the art deserves

It's not really worth it, to be honest. It's a small collection of very classic artists. I wish we could get some representation of younger, upcoming talent and promote them. The temporary exhibition was the most disappointing, in terms of quality and presentation likewise. The building also requires some updates - It's not in great shape at all.

The museum is located in the Banffy Palace building. So you can visit two attractions at the same time :) The parquet is so creaky, it's annoying. The staff is polite. permanent and temporary exhibitions are quite interesting. The expositions are located on two floors, and you need to buy a ticket on each floor. The prices are adequate. You can also buy tickets separately for the permanent exhibition, and temporary, and all together.

Nice exhibition, but a little background and story would be nicer about the pictures. Most of them have a name on it on romanian and the same text on english, which by the way looks like it was translated by google translate. All together its an okay place to spend an hour or two,but there is definitely room for inprovment.

Very cheap price for tickets. The floor is very noisy so it made my friend and I feel uncomfortable. The art isn’t displayed properly to my liking. The story of the painting is all over the place. Maybe it’s just me.

Here I saw one of the larger galleries of paintings in Cluj-Napoca. The place has multiple expositions and seeing everything in one go can be a real challenge.

Nice collection of artwork, mostly local. Brilliant series by Nicolae Grigorescu, showing his development and evolution over time. Gallery needs a little tender care as the old building is uneven and creaky, not improved when many paintings are hanging slightly crooked or off-centre.

At the date of the visit (July 16, 2022) there are 3 exhibitions: one permanent and two temporary. It's a special place dedicated to those who want to see Paciurea's sculptures or Luchian and Grigorescu's paintings. The fee for personal photo is applied, 20 RON / person.

The collection is relatively small, but still there are some interesting paints by Romanian artists. The building of the museum could be in a better condition.

Nice examples of Romanian art through the 16th century through now. Small collection, it only took about 40 minutes to go through. I was disappointed that I was charged to visit the temporary exhibit but it wasn't open yet. 20 Lei tax for taking a picture. As usual lots of steps, no air conditioning.

Don't expect to see international masterpieces - this museum is mostly a snapshot of Romanian and Transilvanian painting and sculptures. The building itself is a beautiful castle and as such, it is worth a visit even of you are not a fan of arts.

Wonderful building. Only the building is worth a visit. They have valuable expositions. Good experience. I visited it during Transilvania International Film Festival with some special expos. It hosts concerts and cultural events as well

A beautiful museum with involved staff. If you are an admirer of visual arts this is (obviously) the place for you, from sculpture to famous paintings and everything in between. Bonus points for the architecture of the building and the way they made use of it to enhance the aesthetic of the museum.

Smalle but nice collection of paintings and sculptures, that provides an interesting overview of the regional art from the middle ages to the second world war. Also temporary exhibitions. Building is unfortunately in a bad condition. Although they were working on the facade when I visited (December 2019. Nothing to see from the original splendour of the Banffý family. Which is a shame because I think it has great potential for the region & the city.

A beautiful place that you must visit, friendly stuff and great things to see! You must have a blanket, a book, something to drink and it may be the best day of your life! Have fun!

Located in the city center, Banffy Palace hosts not only the Art Museum, but some awesome events in his spacious yard. The Art Museum is a must see for it's bohemian touch and, of course, for the galleries. Regarding the events which take place in the Palace's yard, usually they are music events, social events, all kind of little festivals and concerts.

Great place to visit! The museum is big, it has lots of exhibitions, but some of them are temporary and one is fixed! Lots of classic painters and sculptors but lots of contemporary ones.
