Maid of the Loch is the last paddle steamer built in the United Kingdom. She operated on Loch Lomond for 29 years and as of 2022 is being restored near Balloch pier. It became in service in 1953. Great view, and there was a cafe with an outdoor setting area on a fabulous vew. Highly recommended

Beautiful historical ship , fun for adults and kids too 🀩.This is the last paddle steamer lunched on the 5th march 1953 and currently going through restoration with the help of donations from visitors, hope it will sail in the near future again ☺️ I did use Google earth to find more about its interesting history. Its free to get on board and explore, however voluntary donations helps upkeep and fund the restoration, staff volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable . There is a cafe there where you can get tea , coffee and cake and enjoy the lovely stunning view and its not expensive .. Its a very unique and beautiful places for events like Weddings and Wedding Receptions, Corporate Events, Kids Birthday Parties, and so much more! Over all if your around Balloch or loch Lomonds its a lovely place to stop by and check it out :)

A long but exciting project to restore Maid of the Loch to her former glory! Excellent restoration tour by Misty. Lots of great information and behind the scenes access. Highly recommend and a great way to help support their restoration work. Can't wait for a future visit as we sail the Loch and drink a cocktail from the bar!

It wasn't the best day for a visit but it was our only day so no choice. There's a £3 fee to get on board which goes to support the restoration. It was lovely, all staff very friendly and knowledgeable, it can only get better as more gets done to this beautiful steam powered boat 🚒 There is a lovely little cafe on board and the views are fab Definitely worth a visit and worth contributing to save this gem

Truly a beauty’ it was amazing to see in person up-close as pictures really do not serve enough justice πŸ‘€ even the locals still enjoy this amazing boat.

For me this was the hidden gem to discover in (the rather touristy village) Balloch! Meet the group of very enthousiastic volunteers, who all clearly do thier utmost to get the fasinating ship sailing agian!

What a great find, the volunteers were knowledgeable and the ship which at the moment is undergoing major refurbishment is open for tours, there's a brilliant model ships exhibition inside The Maid of The Loch and we were taken through them with the model maker himself. We finally ended our visit with lunch from their takeaway cafe and sat eating on the jetty viewing the Maid of the Loch.

We have followed progress of the restoration of this 1953 vintage paddle steamer for a few years. To date, July 2022 the ship is on the slip having her hull repaired. Other works are on-going and the on board cafe is closed. The ship charity and Wild Highlands Coffee Roasters are in collaboration to provide outside seating to enjoy coffees etc along with alcoholic drinks and cakes. Sitting on the pier looking out towards Loch Lomond, watching the boats, jet skiers and usually the weather change is so relaxing. Always worth a visit to this corner of Loch Lomond Shores.

We happened upon the Maid when out for a gentle walk around the Shores in the morning and we're so glad we did! Jim and Graham and David (volunteer engineer and two of the volunteer guides) we're so friendly and informative. It's really a project of passion and they, along with the other volunteers, have out so much time and effort into caring for and restoring the paddle steamer! It's an amazing story and great to see the pistons and wheels for the slipway pulley system all working (and for a donating, I got to pull the steam whistle! Lovely folks and a great piece of history, we hope to see it restored to glory soon!

Easter visit. A destination for those engaged in watersports with ample free parking, a visitor centre, toilets, and showers. This is the home of the PS Maid of The Loch was the last paddle steamer to be built in Britain. Having been withdrawn from service in 1981, it's now undergoing restoration. Whilst under restoration, The Maid of the Loch is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday Easter to October and closed throughout the winter. Well, worth a look. There's a takeaway cafΓ© with outdoor seating available. Winter times Tuesday to Sunday 09:00-16:00, West Highlands Coffee.

We had a lovely guided tour of the Maid Of The Lock! The tickets cost Β£15 each, and the tour started at 14 and lasted more than an hour. Tours are only at weekends, because during the week the volunteers are working on the ship to complete her restoration. Graham, our tour guide, was very passionate about the history of the Maid Of The Loch and entertained us with lots of interesting anecdotes and information about her. It was really instructive and fun, especially because we have never visited a ship while being restored before. We hope that the Maid Of The Loch will be back in the water again!

A real piece of Dunbartonshire heritage. Will be fantastic when she's done and back afloat. Great wee cafe just beside her on the jetty.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ An experience of a lifetime. Pilot sounded like Christian Slater so was funny hearing him comment through the headphones. The plane was no as cramped as I thought it would be looking at it from the outside. Take off was great and once up you get the best possible view of Loch Lomond and onwards (wha...
