Good place for elephant watch and feeding. Visitors time is only 1/2 an hour. But you can see them from road itself 🐘🐘 Really better than Jungle safari. After 4.30pm you can find elephants at roadside if you're lucky. Before they day time deer 🦌🦌 only visible at road side. You couldn't find any wild animals rather than deer and rarely elephants

Good place to go watch the mahouts feed the elephants. Watch out for the timings before you go, it's open only for 30 minute slots one in the morning and one in the evening. You will get a chance to see the elephants up close. They also have options for elephant safari but it's open only till 8:00 a.m. in the morning. Kids will certainly enjoy this place.

Elephant camp located very near to Mudumalai tiger reserve.Nice to watch the elephants so close at this place. Entry ticket needs to be collected from the Tiger reserve jungle safari ticket counter itself. Entry is allowed only for 30 minutes both in the morning and evening. Overall a nice place to enjoy some free time.

It's an elephant camp situated within the premises of Mudhumalai tiger reserve, around 500m away from the main road. The ticket to visit the place is available from the Mudumalai Safari booking centre located on the roadside. The elephant camp provides us with the opportunity to watch the largest animals on the land from very near and to acquaintance with their daily routine. We can also witness feeding the elephant. Various kinds of food that are fed to the elephant are showcased here. I would suggest to anyone passionate about the wildlife to have a visit here while passing through Mudumalai forest, it would take 30 to 45 minutes only.

They have excellent facilities for about 24 elephants. Special meals are prepared for each elephant and visitors can enjoy witnessing the elephants during feeding time. Vet and training facilities for elephants are well established. Everyone enjoys this experience, especially the kids. Must visit. Elephant rides are also available through the Mudumalai reception office, which is nearby.

Elephants are given food prepared by the camp. Medicine also given along with food. Baby elephants are taken care of. Peacock, monkey, wild pig, concupine can be seen along with the elephants. Very neatly and hygienically maintained. We must not tease or disturb the animals.

Beautiful place to be visited by all age groups. They are well trained elephants so no danger. You can feed the elephants but you have to buy separate ticket for that. Before entering the place you have to buy the ticket which is from the opposite side of the road. Instead of parking the car by road side you can directly take the car near to the entrance itself. Overall it’s a good place.

We had visited this elephant camp on our way to Ooty. We were not aware of the timing so we missed entering the camp. But we got to witness the elephants leave from outside itself. Kindly ensure that you visit during these timings only: Morning 8:30am to 9am and Evening: 5:30pm to 6pm

Excellent! The elephants seemed to be fed well and treated well. Except for one, none seemed to be in distress - that's very good. One was a bit uneasy, perhaps new? There is no direct interaction with the animals - they are, after all, unpredictable and some people are too! Good viewing of these gentle giants, although in captivity.

The Place where the elephants are taken care. Tourists can visit this camp and see the activities. Hygienic food is being prepared and given to elephants here. They are being trained here. The location and climate is too good here. Can see other animals as well nearby.

Nice place to visit with family and kids 😀 Should report the place before 06.00 PM. Safer side to be at the spot by 05.30 PM itself. Entry tickets should be taken in different place from the entry point. Feeding for elephants 🐘 will happen by 06.30 PM.

Theppakadu Elephant Camp is an elephant training and rehabilitation center located in the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu, India. The camp was established in 1972 to train and manage captive elephants, and it has since become a popular tourist attraction for visitors to the sanctuary. The camp is home to several domesticated elephants, which are trained by experienced mahouts (elephant trainers) to carry out various tasks such as pulling logs, carrying loads, and performing in cultural events. Visitors to the camp can watch the elephants being bathed, fed, and trained, and can even take part in activities such as elephant rides and safaris. In addition to its role in training domesticated elephants, the Theppakadu Elephant Camp also plays an important role in the conservation of wild elephants in the region. The camp has been involved in several research and conservation projects aimed at protecting the habitat of wild elephants and minimizing human-elephant conflicts in the area.

At reception counter you will get tickets for everything like elephant camp, ride, safari by bus or gypsy, rooms for accommodation etc. @camp you can watch feeding session of elephants. Or you can ride them @elephant ride. Either way it's just a memorable experience... People like us who see elephants in discovery channel only it is a lifetime experience. Liked

If you want to see elephant feeding go to this place. Otherwise there is nothing much to see or experience here. Kids love this place as they experience the sight of big elephant and feeding them. So if you have kids definitely take them to this place, they will enjoy. For me seeing elephants eating sugarcane was amazing. Never seen that before.

I went to The Famous Thepakadu elephant camp( Made famous by The award winning documentary “ Elephant whisperers”). This is so beautiful and mesmerising. I was taken back by the caring attitude of the couple who took care of the elephant calf. Truly amazing! I hope to find more such caring parents elsewhere ( Feeding and taking care of an elephant calf daily is no mean task). It taught me to be more humble and caring parent. Truly out of the world experience. Immersed in mother nature.

We drove across the lush green forest of Mudumalai National Park and spotted elephant right on the road, it was such an incredible experience. We also saw groups of deer. You are not allowed to park, get down or take selfies inside the park. They have options for jeep Safari and mini bus safari to take you into few other places to spot wildlife inside the jungle. Spotting a tiger is a rarity here and hugely depends on your luck!

  • 5/5 Subith R. 6 months ago on Google

The elephants at the Theppakadu camp are well fed and seem happy and healthy. Some of the elephants at the camp are orphaned young ones while others are those who have wandered into nearby villages and have been brought to the camp for domestication. Weekends and public holidays, there are a lot of people visiting. During the visiting hours, one can see the food being prepared and watch elephants being fed. One can also talk to the caretakers and get to know more about the animals. Oh yes, there are a lot of langurs hanging around the camp for the leftover food and attention from the visitors. It's a happy place for the Langurs as well. One can also meet Mr Bomman and Ms Bellie, cast from the documentary 'Elephant Whisperers'.

One of the treasures around Nilgiri Biosphere is you are on a trip to this part of the world. Theppakkadu Elephant Camp - houses a lot of elephants which has a variety of history as the tamed elephants are essentially Wild Elephants which have a history of dangerous human encounters. Ensure that you interact with one of the mahouts in Tamil or Malayalam to understand about each of them. The place is also an easy playground for Wild Boar, Deer (Chital), Peacocks and Hanuman Langurs and you can see them flock around the evening while the camp is open for feeding elephants display.

A very good place to see the elephants of different ages getting fed. The place is open only twice in a day, in the morning and evening. You need buy tickets for getting into the feeding camp. You can see many elephants inside the camp during the feeding time. The food is prepared and the caretaker brings the food and feeds with his hands by dropping into elephants mouth. You will not be allowed to touch the elephants but you get printed photo by paying fees.
