Elephant
Camp
is
an
elephant
training
and
rehabilitation
center
located
in
the
Mudumalai
Wildlife
Sanctuary
in
Tamil
Nadu,
India.
The
camp
was
established
in
1972
to
train
and
manage
captive
elephants,
and
it
has
since
become
a
popular
tourist
attraction
for
visitors
to
the
sanctuary.
The
camp
is
home
to
several
domesticated
elephants,
which
are
trained
by
experienced
mahouts
(elephant
trainers)
to
carry
out
various
tasks
such
as
pulling
logs,
carrying
loads,
and
performing
in
cultural
events.
Visitors
to
the
camp
can
watch
the
elephants
being
bathed,
fed,
and
trained,
and
can
even
take
part
in
activities
such
as
elephant
rides
and
safaris.
In
addition
to
its
role
in
training
domesticated
elephants,
the
Theppakadu
Elephant
Camp
also
plays
an
important
role
in
the
conservation
of
wild
elephants
in
the
region.
The
camp
has
been
involved
in
several
research
and
conservation
projects
aimed
at
protecting
the
habitat
of
wild
elephants
and
minimizing
human-elephant
conflicts
in
the
area.
