Amidst the bustling crowd and densely packed house...away it is this mystic beauty of nature which synergize our feel with plenty of oxygen supply, cool climate and the shading trees...this expensive forest trek charging 350 per person with a guide is a yes for nature lovers who just want to be mesmerized what the nature offers us and definitely a know for those who want to feel the Rs 350 worthy with animal spotting...spotting birds and animals is definitely based on luck....this 2 km walk was definitely a yes for me..leeches are there so you can be careful...the trek is not to and fro it is a roundabout and definitely enjoyable

Forest has been closed by the authorities 2 years back. There are no approvals or permissions that would work. So save yourself the trip. Trip advisor & other sites need to update their page accordingly to avoid misguiding tourists.

100% forest. Could not see much of animals expect Malabar squirrel and birds. Ideal time is near monsoon when lot of birds will come over. Good walk and surely a place to visit. Ensure you take the correct route to the place. The turn at MGR statue is the correct road to reach this place.

We went with big expectations. I was with my wife and kids and gps location stopped at a point and said you have reached the destination. There was no one at that place and read was very narrow so that I have a fear of how to turn back if nothing was there. Some how I halted and car in one place and walked with my family further into the forest for 5 min. Me and my wife was lil afraid to go further as there is absolutely no one and totally remote. What to do.. we can back and nothing we saw. There should be some security guard atleast in the entrance or some instructions board should be there on how to proceed. It was disappointing

A beautiful location. You can take photos from here. Entry is prohibited for normal people. Overall the ambience is too good. Somtimes forest officers might be there. Don't throw plastic and other waste in this area. There is no entry fee anything like that. Overall a good place for visiting with family and friends. If there is fog or mist this place is very beautiful and you can enjoy it too much.

Very nice and compact reserve forest within Kotagiri. There is a mud road that goes in and we were lucky to see a herd of bison up close. It's a tight squeeze and there is only one place to turn the vehicle around in the forest. It's a very serene place, ideally visit in the dry season to avoid walking in mud.

This is the forest rangers office. You can book a jeep ride or trekking from the office to the entire forest area. It boasts long shola trees along with other amazing trees. Food is not available. Bathrooms are fine. Drinking water is available.

The forest official present there informed us that the reserve has been shut on account of bear attacks as the animal population has apparently increased during the lockdown, and they are currently not allowing people inside.

Canโ€™t actually rate this place as they wonโ€™t let us in. During covid they have closed this place down, so the wild animals are all over the place it-seems. We got this info from the forest officer. And they also mentioned that they had spotted a leopard near to the car parking too(near the gate) . So for the safety of the tourists they are not letting anyone enter now until they get permission from the govt.

My wife and I were not allowed entry by the forest office guard. We were told that the Forest has been closed since the start of Covid. I tried taking help from the Green Resort employee as I am not fluent in Tamil. It was understood that due to very few tourist the number of wild animals could be high and thus not secured for citizens in general. I took my own vehicle but was ready to avail the Forest Ranger Jeep that was parked nearby. However, still the guard did not budge. What I understood is if you get permission from forest office in advance the might permit you to enter the forest by their own vehicles ( not verified). Will be appreciated if someone can vouch for the above. Thanks. My date of journey 10th March, 2023.

Forest security gaurd did not allow us inside, we came as a gang 18 boys. But they said that, it was closed from covid bec of wild animans activity. Not sure whether they will allow even if we get an permission from senior forest officers.

Long wood chola is a gift of mother nature. Filled with variety of plants, trees, shrubs and ornamental plants. Most of the time I gazed and wonderd the hidden beauty of nature inside the long wood. Due to population and encroachments the beauty of long wood chola is changed. But once you go for a trekking with the help of forest department you realise the value of Longwood. I want to thank the rangers who took efforts to protect forest and ecology systems in and around Kotagiri. I love nature and I attended NSS camps in my school days at longwood chola. Longwood is not only a heart of Kotagiri but also gift of nature. As a residents of Kotagiri we must give hands to protect the longwood chola.

There is a forest officer, not allowing us to go inside. He behaved very rudely. Actually, his salary is paid by our tax only. But he treated us with an un-respectful way.

We followed Google maps to arrive there. The path took us into a dense forest. Get a fresh and nurturing breath by walking into the woods. A place for nature lovers.

It is forest area. road side fence are broken, dangerous. Very remote area, no security guard. I saw notice board with "prohibited area" and other information. That board is very old and not readable at first place. Not recommend for family with kids.

Plesant walking area in the midst of nature and yes, it's dog friendly too. Would not advise as a picnic area as littering would increase.

SHOLA FOREST IS CLOSED FOR PUBLIC. We found out the hard way that the forest is not YET open to the public after COVID. It is not safe for anyone to enter here since the trail is all lost and is covered in leeches. Such a beautiful forest that it's a pity it is still not open. An old board indicates an entry fee of INR 350 for Indians and INR 1500 for foreigners.

Google Maps led us to an abandoned old house. We drove past that place along a village type cart road and that was scary. To the left was the Highway from which we exited in to this narrow road and the right side was fenced. We couldn't turn back and not a human being can be seen around. Luckily after a while, we could take a U turn. We could then breathe easy and we were happy to witness great views of the tea gardens and estates farther to the side of the highway. It was truly spectacular.

As it's summer time, there have been cases of forest fires in most of these sholas (patch forest), however, wild animals travel from 1 shola to the other. Considering this, we need to protect and preserve the sholas.

Preserved and maintained by the Tamil Nadu Forest Dept, famous for it's rare native species. The conservation efforts of the forest department is truly commendable, and they take pride in accompanying visitors for a walk around the Shola, explaining the various trees and medicinal shrubs.

This shola forest is different from other shola forests in terms of height of trees and micro-climate.Here the trees are more in height as compared to other shola trees. Here the climate is mildly cool.Refresing cool breeze and beautiful weather is the plus point here. No humidity problem here.We didn't encounter any leech here on our visit.
