We wanted to visit Upper bhavani lake. We heard that one has to reach Avalanche Forest Reserve and then take Forest safari from there at 9.15 am. So we started from Ooty at 7.15, reached there at 9. The roads to reach this place were from thick greenery of forest. At once we thought not to go. But somehow we reached there. No one was there. There were 2 forest safari kind of vehicles were parked. After sometime one forest officer came and he told that from last 3 months, the Safari is closed due to land slides. We can not go ahead from this place. We were disappointed. He told us, if we want, we can go from pine trees and visit lake. The lake was good. Steam of water was clear and cold. We spent some time and returned. In return journey, we visited Avalanche lake & Emerald lake.

Avalanche Forest Reserve is a hidden gem in the Nilgiri Mountains. If you're a nature lover or adventure seeker, this place is a must-visit. The dense, untouched forests, crystal-clear Avalanche Lake, and the backdrop of towering mountains create a landscape straight out of a fairytale. The reserve offers a range of activities, from trekking and camping to bird watching. The trekking trails are invigorating, and you might even spot some unique wildlife along the way. The serenity of Avalanche Lake is something you'll cherish. Remember to get permits in advance, as this place is protected and pristine. This reserve is a testament to nature's beauty and should be on every nature enthusiast's list. Just be prepared to be awe-struck by its natural wonders! Beware of monkeys, any food items they saw, they most probably attack you to take it.

Ride to this place itself is beautiful!!! Enjoyed every second spent... Safari - Spotting wild animals is completely luck. 250 per head or One can book a vehicle for 2000 /- Can enjoy pine forest. Avalanche lake is a beauty. Small and cozy restaurant with tasty food, coffee & tea shop with snacks. PS: this place is located in a reserved forest. Please inquire before visiting.

Very disappointed as i could not visit upper bhavani as it was closed for the past 4years due to landslide. The repair work is still being done with no estimated time for completion. You can either rent a Jeep for Rs.2000 which can fit 8-9 persons (not more that that) or if you are a group of 4 you can share with another group of 4 but the real problem is who sits in front and middle seat?? The third row seats can fit 4 persons but you have less visibility while travelling (that's the worst part) Avalanche View, Cauli flower sola and Falls view are all the 3 spots you will be taken via narrow roads. I have seen private cars going through this restricted place (💯 tourists) . Not sure how they are allowed to go in probably they know some forest officials. 🚻 here are in pathetic condition. There is a tea shop here. Recommended - Visit as early as possible around 10-12 Rent a Jeep for Rs.2000 Spend sometime walking around the ticket counter to play with 🙊 and take pictures

It's amazing place to experience atleast once in lifetime. It's in forest. It's have safari, lake etc.. But have monkeys. Monkeys may take your food and valuables and climbs trees to trees. So be safe. Other than that. This is amazing place to explore and experience. Enjoy.

One of the best and must visit place in ooty, about 50km away from the city. A less popular place but it has a good positive vibe and calm surroundings. Its feels so good to spend a day here with peacefull and promising natural view. The whole place is very beautiful with a shallow stream. There is an entry fee of about 40 Rs and the road is very beautiful with trees on both sides and narrow roads. Heard there is a jeep safari organised by the forest department but was not available on the day i visited. A must visit place while at ooty, for a refreshment and for peace of mind ✌️

Avalanche forest reserve is little far (~25kms) from Ooty. However, it’s worth the drive. Place is calm and beautiful. There is an entrance fee and only cash is accepted as the mode of payment. Car parking, food stall/hotel is available the entrance. Little further from the entrance, there is a small pine forest which opens up to the grassland having a water stream joining beautiful avalanche lake. You can enjoy the pristine nature.

Ohh this is best place in ooty to chill and relax, you can plan for a picnic over here. The roads are narrow but drivable from the entry place need to drive another 3km to reach actual place.

About 90 mins from Ooty. Less crowded. Good drive. A forest jeep will take u inside the forest and driver is the guide who is well versed with the flora and fauna. Brocoli shaped trees and lake is beautiful.

The must visit place if you go Ooty. Search in Google map as Avalanche forest it will take you to that place from there you need to pay 250 per head for Jeep Safari. You should not miss this Jeep safari because this experience can't be experienced somewhere else.

We had visited here in the month of March 2023. Avalanche is a eco-tourism center, it is run by EMTC under forest department established in 2012. This ecotourism provides livelihood to the Thoda tribal groups-supports their culture, women empowerment and development of the tribes. It is one of the less visited offbeat place in Ooty. The entrance has pine forest and avalanche lake where you can play and take picture. The lake is serene with chill water. Later, you can proceed to the actual safari. Jeep safari cost you 2000 rupees, 8 people capacity. Van rides were stopped during our visit. The actual safari ride begins at avalanche entrance and ends in Lakkadi lasting for 2 hours, Along the path tourist can experience the jungle, cauliflower shola forest, and then to the Bhavani temple at the rock cliff. Final destination is lakkadi lake formed by the backwaters of upper bhavani dam. BUT unfortunately, the current safari is only operating until the cauliflower shola forest (3km from the start) and the rest of the ride is stopped due to the landslide caused by heavy rainfall. The road work is under progress and we were told it is expected to complete by end of 2023. Wildlife sight seeing depends on the luck, Often sighted animals are Leopard, Tiger, Gaur, Sambar deer, Sloth bear, jackals and elephant. We got to see elephant, Bulbul, Nilgiri Langur and Malabar giant squirrel. Timings are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm all days of the week. No private vehicles allowed past the forest entrance. Like the review if you find it useful.

Nice, calm n serene place. Must visit for the short forest trail n the stroll in the backwater areas. The Jeep Safari is good attraction too. Last stop of the safari makes it more than worth it.

A wonderful spot with mesmerising nature at its best! You might require permissions from concerned authorities to visit and recomended with a guide. A bioreserve worth exploring. You would require a good conditioned vehicle to scale up and down the mountains and sometimes even on off roads with great driving skills.

Must visit if the Jeep Safari is fully functional, if not, then do this based on your time availability. Having visited this place once already, we visited again in March this year, eagerly awaiting for the Safari experience. The Jeep Safari at that time in September was stunning and the views were breathtaking! But, it looks like due to some nasty Land Slides, the road is motorable only for few KMs from the starting point. They then then take you to a falls with views of the dam. Jeep Safari is RS. 2000 for 8 people. The safari is worth if it's open fully. If you do not opt for the Safari, there's a pine forest at the entrance which leads you to the river where you can spend some time. In May, it was pretty much dried up. Considering that It's almost an hour drive from Ooty along Narrow roads, I would suggest to check in advance the water level there and also if the Jeep Safari is fully operational before visiting this place.

Paradise on earth. There's a road next to a temple going up to emerald Lake and dam. Cars are difficult to go. Take a 2w and go. Some walking at the end. And a pristine lake waiting for you. Stunning scenery!!

A must visit place in Ooty. You can stroll through a small pine forest. Avalanche lake is a beauty, also there is a small stream on the way to the lake also the views are amazing. There is also trucking available 280 RS per person 4000 RS for a Jeep. Also there are lots of monkeys in the area so keep your things close or else they would snatch it and disappear.

The vicinity is surreal but the safari coast of 2000 for half an hour seems too hyped.Travellers can explore other untouched trails for free.

It's not an open Jeep Safari and one can visit only three points after which the road is under construction. We reached there around noon but had to wait a long time before safari as we were waiting for another group to join us but they never came. In that time, the forest officials asked us to walk till the river. The river and it's surroundings were serene. We were wary at first but saw that many other people were around. It's actually the beginning of the forest. There were many monkeys around. They have crackers to drive them away but it was fun. There are shops where tea, snacks and lunch is also available. Washrooms are there but not at all maintained. I bought a toda embroidery pouch from a shop lady. The safari was ok. It was at a height. The view is good but it was mostly deserted.

A nice place where we could walk and enjoy. Start with a min forest full of trees leading to vast open grassland where you can see river course all along the way. Breathtaking greenery. At the entrance there is a small restaurant that serves hot and good food. Very humble and polite people and good staff who serves nicely.

Natural landscapes are beautiful... Entry fee - Rs 20 per head+ Rs 50 for car....Bus safari is not available. Only jeep safari is available for Rs 2000 (12 Kms approx in 1 hour)... U can take a stroll near the reception area.. Small part of lake is accessible and can take some photos... Nothing very special...

Tranquil, serene, beautiful, scenic or any other adjective isn't sufficient to describe this gorgeous place Ensure you visit this place towards Kundah while at Ooty. Currently it is closed for the safari as the road to upper bhawani is under construction

If you are going for the lake view, it's not a good time to visit as the lake is dried up. Yet it's beautiful. The place has scenic views. BEWARE OF LECHES (carry detol or salt along with you)

Avalanche lake is a paradise on earth which is very calm and you can be with nature. The lake offers great views. There is eco friendly Jeep Safari which covers Avalanche Lake View, Eucalyptus Forest and Cauliflower Shola. Not many people who visit Ooty come to this place, but if you have time left it's worth visiting here.

We went with our family of two kids, wife and myself Ona weekend. The place is short drive away from Ooty. The drive was through lovedale offering some offbeat farmlands and great views. The destination was a great place relatively untouched by regular tourists. We took the guided safari which took us halfway up to some waterfalls. The water was less due to scanty rainfall but the views were stunning. Subsequently we had a short break with noddles. We went for a picnic to grass land nearby. This place offered great free landscapes. my children ran up the stream, crossed the stream with our dog . We had a great time to just relax and unwind with my wife while the children were enjoying under our watch. The return drive was through Good Shepard school route. By evening we were back to Ooty. Overall a Great place for quiet picnic ! awesome grassland ,,:) sweet safari, breath taking views

We went during an off season time so the roads leading to the forest were free. Roads are in good condition now. You need to get an entry ticket for the vehicle and the no of persons in the check post before entering the forests . There's a small pine forest tree area and a lake. Lake was almost dry. You need to hire a jeep to go further inside the forest for a one - hour ride. Can visit if u prefer to spend some calm time amidst nature.

It was a adventurous trip to go to the place and less crowded . The lake was nearly dried up but was a beautiful place. We walked through the lake. It was very nice. Heard the water sounds from the streams. Pine forest was good. There was safari also but we did not go. Overall it was a nice experience and enjoyed a lot. Must go place.

Avalanche is easily one of the most delightful natural places that I have visited. It literally fills ones heart with joy. A natural forest reserve with a beautiful lake nestled within, it has some breathtaking views and spots. A must visit if you happen to be in the Nilgiris.

The forest provides a beautiful backdrop and the nearby lake adds a touch of serenity to the whole atmosphere. The peaceful surroundings and fresh air make it an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The canteen nearby offers a range of refreshments and snacks, making it convenient for visitors to grab a bite to eat while enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The food is tasty and reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The overall cleanliness and maintenance of the area are impressive. The facilities are well-maintained, and the staff takes great care to ensure that the surroundings are kept clean and tidy.
