We
had
visited
here
in
the
month
of
March
2023.
Avalanche
is
a
eco-tourism
center,
it
is
run
by
EMTC
under
forest
department
established
in
2012.
This
ecotourism
provides
livelihood
to
the
Thoda
tribal
groups-supports
their
culture,
women
empowerment
and
development
of
the
tribes.
It
is
one
of
the
less
visited
offbeat
place
in
Ooty.
The
entrance
has
pine
forest
and
avalanche
lake
where
you
can
play
and
take
picture.
The
lake
is
serene
with
chill
water.
Later,
you
can
proceed
to
the
actual
safari.
Jeep
safari
cost
you
2000
rupees,
8
people
capacity.
Van
rides
were
stopped
during
our
visit.
The
actual
safari
ride
begins
at
avalanche
entrance
and
ends
in
Lakkadi
lasting
for
2
hours,
Along
the
path
tourist
can
experience
the
jungle,
cauliflower
shola
forest,
and
then
to
the
Bhavani
temple
at
the
rock
cliff.
Final
destination
is
lakkadi
lake
formed
by
the
backwaters
of
upper
bhavani
dam.
BUT
unfortunately,
the
current
safari
is
only
operating
until
the
cauliflower
shola
forest
(3km
from
the
start)
and
the
rest
of
the
ride
is
stopped
due
to
the
landslide
caused
by
heavy
rainfall.
The
road
work
is
under
progress
and
we
were
told
it
is
expected
to
complete
by
end
of
2023.
Wildlife
sight
seeing
depends
on
the
luck,
Often
sighted
animals
are
Leopard,
Tiger,
Gaur,
Sambar
deer,
Sloth
bear,
jackals
and
elephant.
We
got
to
see
elephant,
Bulbul,
Nilgiri
Langur
and
Malabar
giant
squirrel.
Timings
are
9:30
am
to
3:30
pm
all
days
of
the
week.
No
private
vehicles
allowed
past
the
forest
entrance.
