This lake is really beautiful. It's one of the most underrated places in Ooty. The location in GMaps might be wrong. There's no proper entrance or exit, but you can drive to the sides of the lake, park and enjoy the beauty. Such a calm and serene place where you can easily spend hours. You might as well ask locals for help. I don't think this place is safe in the nights since it's not regulated and I saw a lot of empty liquor bottles where I had stopped over.

It's a must visit place for every Ooty tourists with family and friends. You can enjoy your time at the lakeside. One can take scenic photos of this Lakeview. Please note there is no dedicated parking space, you have to park it on the roadside which is bit narrow terrain. As there are less tourists to this place, only a few cars or other vehicles to park. As well as Emerald dam is prohibited to enter, so just move on to the Emerald lake. Avalanche is just a few kms away from this place. There are two petrol banks (BP and HP) on the way from Ooty bus stand to Emerald lake. As well as there are no snacks or fruit vendors at this place so take your eateries with you (but please don't spoil the environment by throwing away the liquor glass bottles or soft drinks cans or other wastages). We visited at the afternoon 2 o clock. It seems bit dangerous to visit in the evening as there are possibilities of wild life encounters. As well as take care of yourselves at the lake as at some places it is slippery and more deep. There is also a scenic view point on the way to Emerald lake so just stop by to take some beautiful shots. Thank You !

Ever seen a romantic movie where after a break-up the protagonist goes to a serene location to find peace of mind? Or maybe, a location which is always shown as the favourite place of Hero or Heroine and wonder what a mesmerising place they get to be at? These actual feelings and thoughts came to my mind when I went to this breathtaking place called EMERALD LAKE. Emerald lake is located near the village named Emerald Village in Nilgiri District in Tamil Nadu. This place is about 27 kms from Ooty. Me and my three friends had a hard time finding this place because we went on to the route where the lake was actually meant for the tourists, with a gate and a guard, to see but unfortunately it was closed because of the COVID-19 situation (start of the unlock). We were disheartened but we didn’t want to go back without seeing what we came for. We asked the localites but the communication gap was a bit too obvious because it was a village and hardly anyone could speak the languages we understand. After some to and fro, finally and thankfully, we got the address by using the only means of communication that we were left with i.e. sign language. 😅 But the people were very helpful and approachable. The place where we found greenery around almost every corner, where we witnessed the prettiest sunset and most of all the cleanest water we had ever seen, will guaranteed leave anyone breathless. The calmness I felt near the lake is still trapped inside me and I feel so good whenever I remember those instances. The earthly smell, the cool breeze and the moist grass made me feel like we are in a different zone all together. I was not going to endorse this place at all because few people tend to make beautiful places into a trash can and infect its purity. I will, delightfully, recommend this place to the responsible people who wouldn’t harm the nature. Respect nature and you will get the respect in return. Maybe it wouldn’t give you what you’d imagined but it will give you back something in its own, unique way. Like the calmness I received which will stay with me for life. P.S. Even if I forget, the pictures won’t let me. 😜

Beautiful Lake where you can go out as family and spend some time. Good place for fishing ❤ Things to keep in mind ⚠️ Go there only if you have enough time and want to just enjoy the ride. Because its almost 30 Kms from Ooty. ⚠️You will have to search or ask the localities help in finding the lake. Google maps won't direct you as there is no enterance. ⚠️If you are planning to visit multiple places in ooty as one day package, this one can be avoided as you might feel exhausted because this one place is in complete extreme. ⚠️ Check the Weather and go before 12 PM because mostly it will rain in the afternoon.

Emerald is a small village around 17 km from Ooty bus stand. From there, it's a short uphill walk and then the road sort of flattens out. You will see the Emerald Dam on the right, though visitors are not allowed to enter that area. If you keep following the main road you will reach a bridge where Emerald Lake and Avalanche Lake meet when the water level is high. There are shaded areas there where you could stop and have a rest for a while. If you're in the mood, you could continue on the main road until you reach Indranagar. There is a beautiful hill above Indranagar, although it might not be easy to climb to the top because of the rocky terrain and thick forest. It's a great place to spend some time close to nature and even have a picnic. If you're brave enough, you could try exploring the forest as well.

The Emerald lake can be reached in about 5-10 minutes from Avalanche. It is separated by a bridge from the Avalanche lake and looks similar. It is one of the few non-commercial, less touristy places in the Nilgiris which is very close to nature. The Emerald lake looks smaller and has valleys which can be used as picnic spots. The place is clean and the water is good after rains. One can visit the place post lunch as it is sunny until noon. The place is a very scenic location to enjoy and take pictures. The lake can be reached from different sides of the valley and the side of the valley close to the tea estates is greener. It is very less crowded and therefore is not commercial yet. It would be a good idea to take snacks and water if we want to spend lot of time near the lake as there are no shops close to it.

The Emerald Dam is a beautiful lake where you can spend a perfect day overlooking the magnificent views. It is one of the topmost spots to enjoy the scenic sunrise and sunset in Ooty! At a distance of 17 km from Ooty and 27 km from Coonoor, Emerald Lake, a serene lake with emerald blue waters, is located near Emerald village. 🌊 A small lake located in Emerald. Not too crowded like the other tourist places, nice place to spend some time. It is around 1.5 KM from the dam site which further leads to the power generation station. There are no restrictions for visiting this lake.

Udakamandala or ooty is very famous because of many palaces around it and Emerald lake is very important among them. No shops, less sign boards, simple roads, no boating and other entertainment so only a willing heart can reach and relax there. Yes place is less polluted let there be no contribution for pollution from our side.

Must find time to go around the Emerald lake when you visit Ooty. It’s a pure village with innocent people with there farmlands ! No more traffics and pollution ! You get very SCENIC VIEW when you go to the high altitude to the near mountains. There is some private Resorts which can give you memorable view of the Emerald!!

Not a place which attracts much crowd but you will be left with an woaahhhh. The cold breeze, green everywhere land with emerald like water is something which a picture simply can't justify. The adventurous part here is the way you take to reach this place. (Check my pictures to know how narrow the path is) only one car can go at a time. But luckily you can't see note more than one or two cars. Make sure you are an experienced driver to take this narrow path. You will be happy reaching the top. Have a safe and journey with everlasting memories

Hidden beauty , only very few visit this lake. Best place to have photoshoot with scenic view. No shops available here. Best way to reach is by car or bike. By bus you have to get down at emerald bus stop and take a taxi, they would charge around 250- 300. It's 2km - 3km distance from bus stop. There is also a dam but entry is prohibited.
