HAPPY
NEW
YEAR*
Vision
2021
--------------------
I
used
to
occupy
the
first
bench
at
school.
When
I
was
in
class
VIII
(Govt
Hr
Sec
School,
Barur)my
science
teacher
Mrs
Krishnaveni
sent
me
to
the
last
bench
as
a
punishment
for
a
certain
prank
I
played
in
the
class.
I
could
not
read
the
blackboard.
What
a
blessed
day!
She
discovered
that
I
was
suffering
from
myopia.
I
am
ever
grateful
to
her.
A
true
mentor!
The
message
reached
my
father
who
happened
to
be
the
headmaster
of
that
school.
I
was
taken
to
a
renowned
opthalmologist
in
Salem
and
I
got
to
wear
high
power
goggles.
As
I
grew
the
power
of
my
outer
eyes
too
grew
obediently.
After
forty
my
vision
started
diminishing
due
to
cataract
growth.
I
was
managing
it
for
about
fifteen
years.
The
condition
worsened
by
the
dawn
of
2020
and
I
badly
needed
surgical
correction
.
But
Corona
held
me
indoors.
Knowing
my
handicap,
Comrade
Seeni
Mohan
referred
me
to
Dr
Sathyan
of
Eye
Trust
Hospital,
Coimbatore
who
is
an
experienced
opthalmic
surgeon.
Interestingly
he
is
an
Amaravian
(1994
batch).
I
am
awestruck
at
the
medical
advancement.
Hats
off
to
the
laser
and
the
digital
technology
!.
The
cataract
removal
and
the
intraocular
lens
implementation
procedure
have
gone
beyond
one's
imagination.
It
is
done
today
with
total
ease
and
precision.
I
underwent
the
same
in
the
first
and
the
second
weeks
of
this
instant.
The
surgery
took
roughly
15-20
minutes
and
the
total
hospitalisation
period
was
hardly
two
hours.
I
got
my
clear
vision
without
goggles
in
no
time.
No
anesthesia,
no
stitching,no
bandage
and
no
dark
glasses.
Only
I
had
to
wear
a
plain
transparent
fibre
glass
for
protection
.
The
very
day
I
flew
to
Chennai.
But
post
surgery
care
is
required
for
two
months
with
regular
application
of
a
few
eye
drops
regularly.
My
"mission
for
vision"
got
accomplished
successfully
.
Hospitality
is
an
art.
A
dedicated
host
can
never
be
reciprocated
.
When
I
happened
to
stay
alone
after
surgery,
Mr
Prakash
ensured
my
daily
meals
(home
made)for
about
two
weeks.
A
friend
in
need!
Getting
hygienic
and
tasty
food
is
a
blessing.
I
will
cherish
these
palatable
moments.
Now
I
google
without
goggle-s.
I
move
around
comfortably
without
those
cumbersome
convex
lenses.
What
else
can
be
a
worthy
gift
of
a
new
year
to
a
myopic
male
who
depended
on
a
pair
of
spectacles
for
about
42
years!
Eventually
"
Man,
earth
and
seas
and
heavens
open
out
to
my
sight"
(Apologies
to
H
F
Gould).
Thus
VISION
2021!
Now
I
deftly
proclaim
,
"Beauty
lies
in
the
non-myopic
beholder's
eyes".
WISHING
YOU
ALL
A
HAPPY
,
PROSPEROUS
AND
PANDEMIC
FREE
NEW
YEAR
2021!!!!!!
