If you are passing by palakad town and have half hour with you. You can have a stop here. Otherwise there is nothing here. Some days back entrance is free. Now its by online ticketing through a government website. Inside an temple is situated which is open to locals, whatever its a historical place, maintaining well by authority. Good parking facility available which is paid one.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Palakkad Fort in the evening, and it proved to be a delightful experience. This historic fort not only offers a glimpse into the past but also provides a serene and airy atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely walk and a breath of fresh air. As I entered the fort, I was immediately struck by its architectural beauty and rich historical significance. The well-preserved fort walls, bastions, and gateways exuded a sense of grandeur and stood as a testament to the region's cultural heritage. It was fascinating to explore the various sections of the fort, each with its own story to tell.

I recently visited the historical fort in Palakkad, and it's another great spot for family and friends to explore. The presence of a temple inside the fort adds to its cultural significance. One of the positive aspects is the ample car parking area and the availability of toilet facilities, making the visit more convenient. The fort also caters to families with children by providing a nearby park. However, one significant downside is the early closing time of 5 pm, even on holidays. This early closure negatively impacts tourism, as many visitors may prefer to explore the fort later in the evening. It would be beneficial if they extended the visiting hours on holidays, perhaps until 7 pm, to better accommodate tourists and enhance the overall experience.

The Palakkad Fort is said to have existed from very ancient times but believed to be constructed in the present form in 1766 A.D, but little is known of its early history. It has historical significance as well as there is a hanuman temple inside the fort. It has a lot of space for walking and many walkers come for their daily walks here.. Many Malayalam movies were shot in this fort and has gained more popularity. There is also ample parking space for cars , 2 wheelers and cycles Definitely a good visit!

A marvelous spot in the center of the town. Entry ticket cost rs 25 for adults. Suggested for a 30 minutes to one hour time span. Fort is almost well maintained, but some area in the backside is filled with creepers and shrubs. Also a temple is situated inside this fort building. Rock pillars and other structures in the fort makes it attractive. Now it is maintained by archeological survey of India. It is just 5 kilometres away from palakkad junction railway station, which costs a rs 13 in local bus ( in 2023). Buses are continuously available from entrance of the railway station itself.

I liked the way that this fort is being maintained. I liked it a lot. The waterway around the first have lots of tortoises and fishes in it which was very nice to watch. This fort made me remind the medieval time period. The one and only thing which make families get irritated here is the public nuisance made by lover over here, which should me kept on control my the archaeological department and police department.

Just in the heart of Palakkad town a sprawling area where Palakkad Fort Situated. The entry is restricted through passes with a price tag of Rs 25/- per person offline and Rs 20/- on line. The fort and adjoining area are well preserved. There's a hanuman temple just at the beginning of the fort. The atmosphere here is serene and pious. Once at the top of the fort, one could see the beautiful surroundings. But the huge guns kept there earlier were removed and it in heard that they were moved to Karnataka. A nice place to visit so that one could spend almost 2 hours in the history of India.

It's a great place to visit. There is a moat with different fishes and tortoises. There is also a Hanuman temple. We have to do a lot of walking and climbing. There are good view points. It's maintained well. It can be more friendly towards the seniors, like providing more ramps.

Palakkad Fort, also known as Tipu's Fort, is a historic fortress located in the town of Palakkad in Kerala, India. The fort has historical significance and is a popular tourist attraction in the region. The fort was constructed by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore, in the 18th century and later expanded by his son, Tipu Sultan. It is a well-preserved structure that reflects the architectural style of that era. The fort is characterized by its massive stone walls, bastions, and a large moat surrounding it, which was once filled with water. Here are some key aspects of Palakkad Fort: 1. Historical Significance: The fort played a crucial role in the history of Kerala as it served as a strategic military base for Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. It witnessed many battles and was an essential part of their defense in the region. 2. Architectural Charm: The fort's architecture is a blend of Mysorean and European styles. It features large stone walls, intricately designed doors, and a well-planned layout that includes a mosque and granaries. 3. Museums: Inside the fort, there are two museums, the Palakkad Fort Museum and the District Historical Museum. These museums house a collection of artifacts, weaponry, and historical items that provide insights into the region's history. 4. Scenic Surroundings: The fort is surrounded by lush greenery and gardens, making it a pleasant place for a leisurely stroll and exploration. 5. Accessibility: Palakkad Fort is easily accessible from the town center and is a popular destination for both history enthusiasts and tourists. While the fort is historically significant and provides a glimpse into Kerala's past, it's not as grand or imposing as some other forts in India. Nonetheless, it's worth a visit if you are in Palakkad and interested in history and architecture. The fort's tranquil surroundings and the opportunity to learn about the region's history make it a worthwhile stop for travelers.

A scenic place. Beauty of fort is inviting. Though it could be maintained more. The hugge entry doors 🚪 are fascinating. Though seeing students in corners making out does put you in spot especially when with your kids. There's enough space to keep on moving & exploring 😄... Good views from fort tops... One can feel relaxed. Parking is ample and it's charged. Beside the fort there's a garden. We had to leave unfortunately to reach another place so couldn't explore it. There's a namesake museum inside the fort. Nothing much to explore though. Overall it's a good visit.

Giving you some precious moments that will take you back into the history, the fort and premises are kept intact except for a small portion which is transformed into a Hanuman temple that was not a part of the fort historically. Inside the fort is calm and shady with comforting large trees spreading it's boughs all over the field. A must visit.

The fort itself, a protected monument of the Archaeological Survey of India information centre museum, the stepped well, the old jail house, the auditorium and the Hanuman Temple inside the fort are all worth visiting. The peaceful atmosphere surrounding the fort, and the greenery around are soothing. A conversation with the members of the 1500 strong fort wlkers' club could be quite enlightening - and you are sure to come across some member or other taking the daily walk, or doing yoga, or other excercises. I watched for a good length of time the many fish in the fort moat, and a number of turtles, and one or two snakes, all adding to the pleasure of the visit. When in or around Palghat make it a point to visit rhe fort and learn a little bit about its various occupiers like Hyder and Tipu armies, the Zamorins soldiers, and of course the Briish

Its an old fort now under the control of Archaeological survey of India . Those who like to know the history of monuments and enjoy its features it's a good choice. And it's a place where you can spent some time with your friends and family. The ticket rate is just Rs 25 per person. You can just roam around and sit in the shades of the trees with friends and family. Parking available . Overall it's a nice place.

It's an old fort situated in the heart of Palakkad town (just 2km ) of Kerala state, southern India. It was recaptured and rebuilt grandly by sultan hydraulic in 1766 ace. And remains one of the best-preserved forts in Kerala. The structure of the fort is fabulous and also this one of the best places to visit with family and friends there is a child park near to the entrance so you can grab two in one. It's historical places while visiting places like this make as more aware of what our ancestors and our old land wereand it's level up our knowledge level

Palakkad fort is one of the well preserved forts in Kerala. The fort is a symbol of power of the Mysore dynasty in the Kerala region. Few cannons are placed therefore the visitors to see. And the famous myth of a tunnel from palakkad fort to Mysore is still fresh. And some people still visit the fort to discover the lost tunnel.but no such tunnel has been ever been found by any archeology teams.

The Historical part has been mentioned by other reviewers in their review so I'm just going to mention about how the vist was during pandemic. The normal ticket pass is replaced with an online pass that is to be taken from website given in their notice board. Even without pass we could go and see till the temple inside and beyond that area pass is needed. I went on a weekday evening and still it was a little crowded. Overall a peaceful place that holds a firm Historical background

Visited the fort after a long while and her poise has still not jaded. The beautiful fort and surroundings have such a beautiful vibe. We visited at the golden hour and the scenes were unforgettable. The behaviour of security people was not pleasant, but we could not hold on to those thoughts because of what a visit to the fort can offer.

The place was so good. Really a good place to spend a little time peacefully. The architecture of fort is really nice with a water body outside probably to resist attack in early times. There is a small ramakshetram at the entrance of the fort. The main attraction there is the fort itself nothing much to see in the inside. The entry ticket cost 25 per person. There is garden too near the fort which requires a seperate entry ticket.

The Palakkad Fort, also known as the Tipu Sultan Fort, holds a significant place in the history of Palakkad and the Malabar region in Kerala. This historic fort is a testament to the various rulers who have left their mark on this area. The history of the Palakkad Fort dates back to the 18th century when it was constructed by Hyder Ali, the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore, in 1766. The fort was strategically positioned to control and safeguard the Palakkad Gap, a crucial passage in the Western Ghats that served as a gateway to the Malabar region. In 1784, after a series of battles, the British East India Company took control of the fort. However, it was later ceded to Tipu Sultan, Hyder Ali's son, in 1790 as part of the Treaty of Seringapatam. Tipu Sultan strengthened and renovated the fort during his rule, and it became known as the Tipu Sultan Fort. The fort's architecture reflects a mix of indigenous and Islamic styles, with thick stone walls and bastions. It features a large granary, a magazine for ammunition, a mosque, and a spacious courtyard. The Anglo-Mysore Wars led to the eventual return of the fort to the British in 1799, following Tipu Sultan's defeat. The British used the fort as a base for their operations in the Malabar region. Today, the Palakkad Fort stands as a historical monument and a reminder of the region's rich past. Visitors can explore its well-preserved architecture and learn about the diverse cultural influences that have shaped Kerala's history. It is a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and tourists seeking a glimpse into Kerala's historical legacy.

The Palakkad Fort is said to have existed from very ancient times, but believed to be constructed in present form in 1766 A.D, but little is known of its early history. The local ruler, Palakkad Achchan, was originally a tributary of the Zamorin, but had become independent before the beginning of the eighteenth century.[1] In 1757 he sent a deputation to Hyder Ali seeking help against an invasion threatened by the Zamorin. Hyder Ali seized upon the opportunity to gain possession of a strategically important location such as Palghat and from that time until 1790 the fort was continually in the hands of the Mysore Sultans or the British. It was first taken by the latter in 1768 when Colonel Wood captured it during his raid on Hyder Ali's fortresses, but it was retaken by Haider a few months later. It was recaptured by Colonel Fullarton in 1783, after a siege that lasted eleven days but was abandoned the following year. It later fell into the hands of the Zamorin’s troops. In 1790 it was finally captured by the British under Colonel Stuart. It was renovated and was used as a base for operations that ended with the storming of Srirangapatnam. The fort continued to be garrisoned until the middle of 19th century. In the early 1900s it was converted into a taluk office. There is a large ground between the Fort and the Palakkad Town hall, known as Kota Maidanam (Fort Maidan/Fort Grounds). The ground is now used to stage cricket matches, exhibitions and public meetings. An open air auditorium called "Rappadi", currently under the preservation of the Archeological Survey of India, is also located within the spacious grounds of the Fort. Additionally, there is The Palakkad Special Sub Jail is also located within the fort. There is a small shrine dedicated to lord Hanuman known as Anjaneya Swamy temple, The temple is situated on the Eastern entrance of the fort, A figure of Anjaneya is carved in the inner side of the fort wall. The murthi of lord Anjaneya is south facing, while the lord himself is facing west. It is believed that Tipu and his warriors worshipped the lord to protect them from all enemies. A garden called Vatika-Shilavatika is maintained inside the court children's park on one side of the Fort.

It is the iconic structure of Palakkad district, best preserved fortress in Kerala. It was built to this form by Sultan Hyder Ali in 1766 later it was captured and maintained as garrison by the British. This fort is an example of secularism in our country because even if the fort was owned by Hyder Ali for a period of time he never destroyed Human Temple inside the Fort. The fort is 80mts far from the KSRTC Bustand and 1.5km far from the stadium bustand and 5km far from the railway station. Bigbazar and SBI bank os in 200 mts radius .

The Palakkad Fort is said to have existed from very ancient times, but believed to be constructed in present form in 1766 A.D, but little is known of its early history. The local ruler, Palakkad Achchan, was originally a tributary of the Zamorin, but had become independent before the beginning of the eighteenth century. In 1757 he sent a deputation to Hyder Ali seeking help against an invasion threatened by the Zamorin. Hyder Ali seized upon the opportunity to gain possession of a strategically important location such as Palghat and from that time until 1790 the fort was continually in the hands of the Mysore Sultans or the British. It was first taken by the latter in 1768 when Colonel Wood captured it during his raid on Hyder Ali's fortresses, but it was retaken by Hyder a few months later.

The Palakkad Fort in Kerala is a beautiful historical monument that has gently integrated its high walls with its surrounding green gardens. One of the most well-preserved forts in the state of Kerala, the Palakkad fort was built in the 1766 AD by Hyder Ali and is now a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. This picturesque fort is located in the heart of Palakkad town at the foothills of the Sahyadris range in a labyrinth of dense forests and crisscrossing cascading rivers. The mighty fort is spread over an area of 60,702 square meters and is immensely famous for its architecture, which displays the efficiency of the French craftsman. The magnificent fortress of Pallakad is an essential part of history, and its construction is majestic as wellThe fort is in the shape of a square and is supported by walls and bastions which are square shaped as well. Earlier, the entrance to the fort was via a drawbridge, which has now been replaced by a permanent one in its place. A significant ground is also present within the premises of the fort, which served as stable for the horses and elephants of Tipu Sultan's army in ancient times. It is placed between the fort and the Palakkad Town Hall and is known as the Kota Maidanam. It is currently used as the venue for cricket matches, exhibitions and public gatherings. There is an open-air auditorium here as well, which is known as Rappadi. The Palakkad fort also houses some other smaller attractions such as the Hanuman temple, Martyr's column, Anjaneya Swami Temple (a small shrine), Vatika Shilavatika (a garden) and a sub-jail. Amalgamating the beauty of lush green gardens and impressive ancient architecture, this fort is a truly humbling experience. The fort is also known as the Tipu?s Fort, after the name of Tipu Sultan (son of Hyder Ali). The majestic fort depicts the old tales of bravery and courage

I went yesterday with my family. I booked the ticket from their site by saving Rs. 5/- in each ticket. Only we need 2-3minutes for taking ticlet online. Really peaceful and silent evening in the fort. And went speechless by viewing the ancient construction methods. I am sharing a loophole which the soldiers used to view from which we can have a 30degree view from a single hole.

Hello everyone, I have visited this place on Friday evening. The entry fee was Rs. 25 per person. Fort was maintained cleaned, here there are some building built in 17's and there is one temple inside the fort. While entering the fort we can see the fort is bordered by water and we can see lot of tortoise 🐢 in it. So this will be a not too entertaining visit, just a casual visit to our history place.
