I have been a visitor here every year. I went here at least 20 times since 2002 until Covid times. This is called as sapthagiri or 7 hills. But it's not like you will climb one up and down its pack of hills. The first two are the frustrating ones when you climb. Most of the newcomers with me who crossed these have successfully completed full stretch. The first hill ends with vellai vinayagar temple. Second hill is a combination of less steps and normal path ends also with Pampatti Siddhar Gugai Third hill ends with kaikkatti sunai water source one the way there will be vazhukku parai should be careful if it's rainy and very slippery even normally. At the end of the fourth hills Ottar Samadhi. You won't find steps anymore just uneven rocks and mud path Fifth hills ends with Bheeman Kali urundai. A big rock with the support of small rock. Sixth Hill ends with Andi sunai. Chill water. You can dip your legs which worked hard. Seventh hill is a big one and the risky one too. It's the toughest one of all. Here you will get a Sukku kappi and if you are trekking at night this place is a saviour for some rest from cold and you will get little heat from Cold.On my first attempt I got fed up and was about to return after halfway of the last hill when I saw some of my group members climbing down. I was just 15 something at that time. An Anna with me pushed me to climb and scolded "you came this far to fail and return". Thanks to him, I did it that time and never thought I would come back but came back every year (except when I was not in town and recent years thanks to Covid) and also some year I went twice just for fun. Thanks to the almighty Lord Shiva.🙏💖 First timers if you have a plan. Plan at least before a month and do daily walks and while starting to trek start slowly. You should have energy to reach back. Climb light. Just 1 litre water bottle, food in a banana leaf(not mandatory though if you have good stamina), and set of dress would do. Humble Request to all. Please don't throw litters like plastic covers, water bottles. I have seen the sorry state of this place post trekking season.Tons of wastes recovered every year by NGOs. Treat this pleasant place just like you treat your home. 🙏

I plan to visit at shivaratri day because it also one of d special time. Vellaingiri hills opened between march to may only. I travelled from Trichy to Coimbatore by train. After reached Cbe I take bus to reach poondi temple there is the starting point of mountain. Before we got there we stuck in traffic around 3+ hours. So if you want go there make sure to reach the temple before 6 I saying it with my experience. We planned to start hike in between 8-9 o'clock. But we reached there after 12 o'clock. Some terrible experience apart.. We enjoyed lot there. around 1 o'clock we started hike. There's more people like us. Also saw some people getting down from mountain too. That night and day hike experience give me happiness and hopes. 7 different hills⛰️. Ups and downs, steps, rocks, sand way, some normal terrain, slight steep, some heavy steeps, into wild, day and night. Some feelings can't express in words. Specially after getting hit the 7 th hills it's a blissful feelings. Somemore tym we stayed there. And also another special thing is Ice bath❄️⛄ the river located end of the 6th hill after got bath in the river muscles got free and the some pain gone wonderful and blissful feeling. 1st 2hills is with rock steps. 3rd hill with some rock steps and sliding steep terrain. 4th hills with rocks mixture of last 3 mountain. 5th hill got steep to 6th hill with sand slide, rocks, grasses. 6th is a normal ups and downs, slopes terrain and it's also I mentioned about small river. And finally 7th hill too strap steeps with also some heavy breathings🧗. After getting top of the 7th hill there's a temple of Vellaingiri Andavar.😇 Thankyou for reading my experience.❤️

It's located near the isha center and 30kms from coimbatore. It gave us one of the best trekking experiences ever....it took 4 hrs to reach vellaingiri andavar and while returning it took 5 hrs of trekking.... Buying a stick is recommended because in 7th hill that would be extremely hard without the stick and while returning down the mountain without a stick that would get extremely hard to walk. I recommend climbing the hill at night and getting down from the hill within the morning because I got sun burn while getting down from the hill in the afternoon. There was an extremely huge rush of approx 3.5 lakh people visited on saturday and Sunday(avoid going on weekends) but there were enough shops to have a drinks break eventually in all mountains (except 7th mountain). The huge problem was there were no water facilities available. The shops there charged 20rs for water. Once reached at poondi temple there is 24 hrs annadanam facility by government and private people also offer. Please avoid taking plastics to uphill and they charge 20rs to plastic bottles and when we return they give back to 20rs (just to make people not to throw the plastic bottles). Overall this was the best experience and takes 2 days to recover your leg from pain 😇

Visited the Velliangiri Hills (7 hills) during the month of March 2023. Friday Night and Saturday morning trek. Bamboo sticks (Rs.30) are a must to be taken for balance and support. Buy a leaner stick. Likewise water bottles. Plastics will be removed at the entrance, and a refundable Rs.50 will be charged to carry them. Four of them started with barefoot. Waiting time was more than 30 minutes at the entry point at 11 pm. This is my fourth visit, unprepared and little unwell. With my fellow companions hiked all the hills with doubts inside the mind. When good companions accompany throughout the hike, it becomes easier and less stressed to hike. Lots of water, loads of sweat. The advantage of the night hike is no heat. Reached the top at 6 am. More than 30 mins wait time was there. Had a good dharshan of the Suyambu lingams. Could not see the Sunrise as wished due to mist. Relaxed for some time. Descend becomes a little more difficult than hike. Wore socks to avoid sole pain/ scratches. As the day grows, more heat and tiredness will be there. Need more water. Water is not sold. You need to fill the empty bottles from the Sunai. Otherwise, you need to buy juice, buttermilk, watermelon, or lemon juice ( all double rates) to satisfy thirst. The sooner you get down, the less difficult. Came down at 2 pm. At the foothills, annadhanam ( sambar rice) was provided for all. In the end, there was a great sense of satisfaction and at the same time wondering how the trek was completed. Be well prepared to hike. Otherwise, don't. Can be hiked thoughout anyday anytime from mid Feb (newspaper notification will come) till early May. Visit on a weekday where the crowd will be there but manageable. Weekend will be difficult and will take a long time. A must annual visit for trekkers and Lord Siva devotees.

One of the holiest of hills in south India, called Kailasa of the south. Trek of approximately 12 km crossing Seven hills to reach the deity on the seventh hill peak. One of the toughest treks of the Tamil Nadu. The main deity here is Lord Shiva along with Amman and Vinayaka. The start of the trek is at a village called Poondi nearly 35 km away from the Coimbatore City centre. It takes anywhere from 12 to 14 hours to complete the trek for a normal person. People normally start in the evening and return back next day morning. That is mainly because the hill is a protected forest area and trekking is allowed only in the summer months of March, April and May, when the animals climb down to otherside, where Siruvani dam is there, for water.

The Velliangiri Mountains pose a challenging trekking experience, with restrictions barring women between ages 10 to 50 from climbing, although they're allowed to pray in the temple. Best trekked from February to May annually, these hills form part of the famed Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, revered as the 'Kailash of the South.' The shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Swayambu form is a meditation haven for sages and Siddhas. Maha Shivratri is celebrated with great fervor. Trekking these lush hills, standing tall at 2438 meters, is a trekker's delight but strenuous, especially the initial hill with countless steps. Shops dot the path offering refreshments till the fifth hill, with varying terrains making the trek challenging yet rewarding. At the summit, you'll find divine statues and caves to explore, soak in blessings, and cherish a sense of accomplishment before descending.

It was a beautiful place for trekking.. Make yourself free.. don't carry any luggages.. take only water bottle and food that you need.. Have your money with you because some foods are available beside trekking paths.. If you are going to have fun please wear your shoes otherwise you don't have good experience.. Whenever you return you'll be fully exhausted.. Start trek before sunrise.. it takes minimum 5hrs to reach top.. And return before sunset because it's way more risk to return in night times.. And finally please don't throw your water bottles and plastic bags while trekking.. please don't pollute the nature's gift..🙏

Excellent place for trekking. Involves climbing 7 hills, with each hill giving you a different experience. If you are planning to trek , please do it without carrying any luggage. You will get all essential items there like water, snacks etc. Cameras and items that may lead to fire are banned, which includes volini ,match box etc. You will get stick to climb at the bottom. You cannot climb or get down without that. Each hill is approx 1 km and will take an hour to climb. Total trek time one way is 6-7 hours avg. So it will take a total of 12 hours to come down. Please plan your trek on a full moon day and at night so that it won't be difficult. Also, a torch is required if you are planning a trek at night. You will get it there as well.

There are seven hills ,each hill is based on chakras, starts from mooladhar chakra to agna. Between the 7 th hill and 6 hill ,there will be a stream of water which is colder like Himalayas glacier. Shiva is in suyambu form ,his energy is little bit intense here because of the way he was here.. All people has to taste the divine by reaching the vellingiri hills...journey of your life existential purpose...

We camped for two nights back in 2016. We tented in the sixth hill. At night, few animals might come and visit your tent. We cooked and brewed tea. The natural crystal clear water is available in all the hills; that's the gift. For me and few others, sandals or shoes are entirely useless. So it was challenging to cross paths with that. Wait for sunsets on the seventh hill, and it is so beautiful. The layers of mountains and the golden sunset will seduce you. I wish the government makes it an official trek path, making humans and animals safe. If you are planning to visit, please do carry a bag to store all your disposable items.

A great place for devotion and relaxation. Please take enough water and food if you want to travel here. Although there are shops here and there along the way, the prices are a bit high. (Because in the hilly areas they carry the materials up high. So their labor and the cost of the materials should be taken into consideration). Then it is better to have a walking stick for trekking. A walking stick will definitely come in handy when you're about to climb the Seven Hills. On an average the trek takes 6 to 7 hours. The amount of time varies depending on one's pace and rest. Elderly people, people with heart disease and weak heart, people with high blood pressure should avoid mountain climbing. Remember that you are coming to this mountain region at your own risk. When you come to this temple, you will definitely get an understanding for living life. Thanks

Such an amazing place. But for sure your legs might be in worse condition for 2-3 days after the trekking and climbing up is so easy than getting down. Challenge yourself, And go for it!. It is worth climbing seven mountains. Don't go there during the day . We started at 2.00a.m at midnight.

Velliangiri mountains are one of the most difficult trekking spots. "Women Between 10 to 50 age are Not allowed". Although you can Pray in the temple but aren't allowed to climb the mountain. Best time to trek- The trekking season is from February till May every year. About Trek- Located on the Western Ghats, the hills are a part of the famous Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the Velliangiri Hills are considered as the Kailash of the South. The hills are a popular pilgrimage spot as well. Dedicated to Swayambu, which is a form of Lord Shiva, the temple on Velliangiri Hills is a preferred meditation spot for sages, Siddhas, and siddhar. Legend has it that this is temple was where the Lord himself performed a cosmic dance which was requested by Uma Devi, his consort. Of all the festivals, Maha Shivratri is celebrated with much ardor and faith here. The lush hills are a trekker's paradise as they are located at an altitude of 2438 meters, so do carry your walking shoes when you make your way to this picturesque landscape.Velliangiri is famous for the seven hills trek. To complete the first hill it would take 30–45 mins if you trek nonstop, probably one of the hardest hills out of the seven. It will all be steps, steps, and steps. Once you reach the first hill, you would find shops where they sell a lot of eateries and drinks. You can spot similar shops now and then till 5th hill. The second and third hill will be of both steps and plains, comparatively easier than the first one. It would take another 45–60 mins to complete them. The fourth and fifth hill would be mostly plain and you would enjoy walking a bit after all the hard-fought trek climbing up thousands of steps. Will take another 45–60 mins.Yes! Finally, at the top of the hills, you can see god statues, caves, godman's, etc. You can get a blessing from them, donate if you like, sit down, relax, feel good, feel accomplished, feel better and then you can start your trip down the hills.

Jus visited on 29.apr.2023......best place to trek with frnds and it's place where spiritual stuff and scientific stuff collides. 1st hill I don't know exactly how many step were there but took 2hrs for me to complete challenge is those steps only those where carved out of rocks and irregular shape but when you complete it you'll will feel good 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th were also difficult if you're a newbiee as I'm also a newbiee to trekking...... 6th that lil pond omg what a chillness was ssooo chill after climbing 5 hills definitely u need to relax your muscles which is done in 6th hill start 6th hill is an easy one but the last hill where vellingiri eshwar stays is tough like 1st hill..... Once you workshipped and while getting down the second ultimate challenge without that bamboo you can't get down it's soo much needed for support.......... If your starting at mid night then ok but if u r going in morning then you should take as much as water cucumber and water content food...... Hope everyone know the time to visit but still I'm saying from mahashivratri to chitra pournami.......... As I went on night I have posted few pics check it out. Thank you byeeee

Velliangiri Hills is located in Coimbatore District comprising of 7 hills that forms a major part of The Western Ghats. Public will be allowed between March to May and on other months, the public will be prohibited to visit. 1st & 7th Hill are the most difficult ones to climb. 1st Hill: 1000+ steps and taller than other hills. 2nd Hill: Slippery steps & shortest hill. 3rd Hill: Stones & Rocks are placed to appear like steps and little difficult to climb. 4th Hill: Runway of water is the actual route to climb. Since summer, the surface will be dry but slippery. 5th Hill: Mostly plain surface. Easier than other hills. 6th Hill: Downhill to reach a canal. 7th Hill: Toughest steep. Note: If you're going for first time, you need not to climb all the 7 hills. Just explore few & return back and try next time!

I came from Chennai with my friends and colleagues. It is one of the life time experience. There are 7 hills to climb, you will not imagine it will be that much tough to climb the hills if you are a new comer. First hill is full of foot steps but you can't climb easily like other temple steps, it will be very hard and you need to use your stick strongly Public will be allowed between March to May and on other months, the public will be prohibited to visit. It was a lifetime experience..one must visit at least once in their lifetime.. Kindly carry water and some food.

It's such a hard experience and also a new experience. We like very much this trekking. One biggest concern in vellingiri temple, the volunteers are checking the trekker's bag for any plastic is here. This process for to avoid plastic pollution in vellingiri malai. But this process is a failure, because some plastic products(i.e : biscuits, mixer and more) sell inside of vellingiri malai. I want to share some tip to resolve this issues. For example the seller has been selling the biscuits, please remove the plastic cover and put the new paper cover. This process will help remove plastic pollution in vellingiri malai.

Om Nama Shivaya... Velliangiri Hills, Lord Velliangiri Aandavar is the most powerful God. Here we will know about our physical and Mental strength. Because Velliangiri hills hold totally seven mountains. Velliangiri Aandavar located at the top of the seventh hill. Velliangiri is also named by South Kailash. We feel our own in this hills. I have experienced Morning Dharshan with Sunrise.

The Velliangiri Mountains, (Tamil: வெள்ளியங்கிரி மலை) a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, are situated at the Western Ghats of Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. Known as the "Sapthagiri, 7 Hills (Tamil: சப்தகிரி, ஏழுமலை) - Seven Mountains", these mountains are held and revered on par with spiritually most powerful place on the planet - Mount Kailash, the legendary abode of Lord Shiva. On the top of the Velliangiri Mountains, Shiva is worshipped as Swayambhu, one who is self-created and in this form, he graces the devotees.

Excellent for trekking, It’s very difficult to claim over the hills. which entails climbing seven hills, each of which provides a unique experience. We started around 8.15 p.m. from down. the steps, which are very irregular in shape and very steep and difficult to claim. We began at night, and it was quite easy to claim the mountain . Please bring adequate water, biscuits, glucose, or energy drinks. bring lighter luggage, torch lights, and waterproof jerkin. The steps will be really challenging, and you will need to rely heavily on your stick. We started at 8.15 p.m. and arrived at the first hill about 9.10 p.m. It took us one hour to get there. From the first hill, which began around 9.15 p.m., arrived at the second hill around 10.15 p.m. Starting at 10.30 p.m. on the second hill, it arrived about 11.20 p.m. on the third hill. The fourth hill reached about 12.50 a.m. from the third hill, which began around 11.30 p.m. We had some time to rest and unwind in between. Starting at 1 a.m. on the fourth hill, I arrived at the fifth hill about 2.10 a.m. Heavy rain was falling when we arrived at Six Hill. It was really chilly, and we had not brought any rain suits. The fifth hill, which started at 2.30 a.m., reached six hills around 3.20 a.m. It was completely hazy, I couldn't see anyone else, there were too many chills, and rain was drizzling, but it was a beautiful experience. We started from the sixth hill at 3.30 a.m. and arrived at the seventh hill around 4.45 a.m. Some emotions are inexpressible in words. It's a wonderful experience, especially after reaching the 7th hill, The 7th hill top, where Lord Shiva bestows Darshan and a beautiful sunrise, will be above the clouds, as we can see the clouds below us.

[Very Long] In this age of having curated experiences of everything and anything of the “outdoor world”, all the way from luxury safaris in the wild, to even virtual reality experiences, Somewhere was lost, the emphasis on authenticity. Promising to be what you proclaim to be on the box, is so radically different from being the box itself. And this radical contrast is exactly what I’ve experienced, scaling the 7 hills of Vellangiri. For the starters I’ve got to know about it through a google search, and yes there were some reviews, orchestrating the flow of the trek, but then nowhere was explained, the brute and rugged nature of the trek. What crosses your mind, whenever the words “Natural” and “Trek” come hand-in-hand in a sentence? Definitely not those curated experiences of having well laid out paths, SOS services, plenty refreshments along the way etc etc right? That is exactly what vellangiri hills is. There simply is no Phone signal, and most people start afoot the hill in the night, around 11pm – 12, equipped with a stick, a torch, and some snacks in their backpacks. You always expect the summit to lay in the next closest vicinity, but are always hit with the impending reality of numbers. 1.5Km. That is how high the summit is, from the ground level. I mean, we’re talking about flight-level altitudes here. To add on to this astounding height, there’re some patches where inclination angle is almost 80 degrees, and you gotta pull it off without tripping/ losing balance. Else, there’d be a dominos of people all off-balance, falling down. I’d say, for someone who’s going trekking for the first time in their lives, this is a test of sheer will power, and a pretty darn good one too. I can state that, among the group of friends going together for this, there forms a bond, after overcoming all those difficult patches with hands still together, with everyone constantly looking out for each other. I shalleth forever remember this quote: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The only factors which kept me pushing on, were my friends’ company, and those little refreshment stalls along the way. Even with all the hurdles we faced, I’d say it was all worth it, and that this is how treks are supposed to be, completely natural and with almost no human intervention, getting the quint essence of mother nature. So yes, this is definitely a one-time life experience, which, I believe everyone should have in their lifetime.

It's a good holy place available in coimbatore district. Transport : To reach this place in public transport. At first need to reach gandhipuram bus stand in coimbatore district . Then find the bus which goes to poondi Or eesa yoga. When i take on bus it seems crowded and number of bus seems less. Suggestion : Trekking here is good for a break from the busy world. Needs some calm and strength to reach the hill's top. It took 8hrs to climp up and 4 hrs to return. I found some people's taking there child with them on trekking i don't recommend this. Because it's not easy for a normal fit man to reach the top easily. And the edges of rocks are slippery and very sharp keep some first aid kit with yourself. It's hard to return for any major health issues. I don't recommend for those people with any disease or breathing issues. There is no medical team or first aid team available on trekking. Expenses : when i visited this area, at bottom food are available for free ( anadhanam) . For bus 60rs from gandhipuram to temple. Support (bamboo) stick 30rs. After starting the trekking prices between small shops differ and at high price (1l litre water refill costs 30-40).we can't deny this because I took in more than 3 litres of water while trekking. So need to prepare more water stock with yourself. Adding more waters results in heavy weight to trekking. Plastics are prohibited to maintain clean environment by forest department. They will check for any plastic for everyone.

Om Namah Shivaya 🙏🏿🙏🏿... A truly divine hill with a lot of history.. Devotees belive that the Velliangiri andavar resides in this hills and the place is known for siddhars.. The Lord Siva is in the form of suyambu lingam(exist on his own and not installed by any person) resides on the seventh hill also called swamy hill. One has to trek to worship Sivan, the trekking itself a beautiful experience and the views are amazing once you reach 5th, 6th and 7th hills. Definitely you will feel a spiritual awakening, also try to meditate for few mins after reaching. I felt the 1st, 4th and 7th hills are hard to climb, while 1st hill is the hardest. Take lot of water and avoid plastic covers, as they are prohibited. If your are a first timer then take it slow and steady, definitely trek in the late evening or mid night to avoid the heat and sun, carry torch and once you reach the peak stay for a while and then climb down.

On top of clouds. One of the hardest trucking experiences. Took 7-8 hrs to reach the hill top. Getting down to the foothill is harder. I started late evening and reached the hilltop by early morning. Back to the foothill by late noon.
