Travel in the month after the monsoon to see the dam in th full glory..the dam premises are green and the temperature cools around in the evening . The ride through the windings of the Western ghats itself is a different experience. One can see a lot of flora fauna unique to the landscape. Roads are somewhat slippery.. the mountain goats and monkeys are a rare sight

Rs.5 entry fee with 20 for camera. 5.30 pm is the last entry. 6.30 should come out.. boating 40 per adult. 30 for kids. Dam similar to Vaigai dam. U can do walking on top. Long dam. Worth only in the evening time. Hot hot.

A peaceful place for spending your weekend with family and your loved ones. This is located at the bottom of the western ghats. There is a park available which keeps the children entertained. Boating is available but only when the reservoir is with sufficient amount of water. Visit after a monsoon period, to enjoy the boating(Check the water level of the reservoir online before you visit). Car/two wheeler parking space is also available.

The dam is a little further from this place (in photos). This place is 1 or 2 bus stops before the dam, where we can bath if the water levels are low. Good scenic place. Clean river water also. Friendly local people too. They will guide you to the place if you ask for.

The Aliyar Dam was constructed during 1959-1969 across the Aliyar river, mainly for irrigation purposes. Aliyar Dam was inaugurated on 2 October 1962 by then Prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, K Kamaraj, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state presided over the function. The project was commissioned in September 2002 to generate Hydro Electric Power. Aliyar dam is a popular tourist destination.Near Aliyar dam are some visitor attractions including a park, garden, aquarium, play area and a mini Theme-Park maintained by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Corporation for visitors enjoyment. Temple of Consciousness is situated near Aliyar dam entrance at Arutperunjothi Nagar, where Vethathiri Maharishi resides. The scenery is beautiful, with mountains surrounding three quarters of the reservoir. Boating is also available. Monkey Falls is located at 6 km from the dam next to Arutperunjothi Nagar and Forest Department Checkpost. Overnight stay is possible in the forest rest house. A treetop house provides accommodation for the adventurous. The Dam and Park and the overall surroundings of the dam are very poorly maintained as of 2017.

Aliyar dam is a good tourist attraction on the way to Valparai.we can view the Anamalai hills from the dam site .Poor maintenance of Children’s park and flower garden.Bathrooms are very bad and ugly.If maintained good place for visitors For nature lovers and scenery’s it’s a beautiful place
