View is good but I have seen better dams in Idukki .. so this is just ok for me. But the way from Valparai to Sholayar is really beautiful. They is lot of beautiful lakes available due to this dam. That landscapes are extra ordinary. Spend time before reaching out to the Sholayar Dam

One of the biggest dam in Tamil Nadu. Sholayar is located 20 km (12 mi) from Valparai, a hill station in the Anaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India. As it is a part of the hydroelectric project of Tamil Nadu, special permission is required to visit the dam.

The dam is located on the way from Valparai to Athirapally. You can view it from the bridge. The dam opens by 9:00 AM morning. There is no entry fees and mini park like facility is available for kids to play. Nice view from the bridge

One of the biggest dam in Tamilnadu. But doesn’t give the excitement or feel, because of its poor maintenance and hygiene!! If we can visit the dam by early morning we can spot elephants, bisons and even cheetah too😎 Better try to be inside the car and check as anytime they will splash in!!

While you move towards Chalakuddy road from Valparai the dam storage area is clearly visible on your left. Good place to take a break and also to have food if brought along. Road goes through the dam shutter area giving spectacular visual during rainy season. There is option to enter and visit the dam premises.

Very attractive place. September to November will be best time to visit to evidence the foggy climate. June ,July is monsoon there. At the bottom of the dam, you can find the fish shop where they catch the fresh fish and cook. Around 20kms from Valparai centre.

We've to travel around 10-15kms from valparai to reach sholayar. The route from valparai to sholayar will be so thrilling and we can witness some wild animals if we have any fortune.

The water on one side and a landscape full of greenery on the other side. One of the best places you can visit to have a excellent view of nature. There is no entry fee here and please do visit the dam bridge just within 1 or 2 kms from this place.

Roads to the Dam passed is Amazing😍 Something different to View😇. Valparai is located 64 km (40 mi) from Pollachi and 104 km (65 mi) from Chalakudy, Kerala. The nearest railway station is Pollachi. The Solaiyar dam is a vital reservoir under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project and has a water storage capacity of 160 ft (49 m). The reservoir's overflowing waters are let into the Parambikulam Reservoir through the saddle dam.[2] It was constructed by a team working under K. Gopalswamy Mudhaliar[citation needed], the most popular engineer in that area. The Solaiyar Dam is part of the Solaiyar Hydroelectric Project (HEP). The project comprises the main Soliayar Dam, the Solaiyar Flanking, and the Solaiyar Saddle Dam.

Good location but no hotels and shops and no rest rooms for ladies... Only two small tea shops are there but I am not suggesting every one. See my full video click the below link Channel name Plan for a ride https://youtu.be/2brAWSss2-g?si=s9aPAT7daleT0aox

It's a huge dam. In rainy season it will make your heart beat DUM DUM DUM. LARGE DAM WITH LARGE RESERVOIR. one of the major attraction in Athirappalli - Valparai Route. Near the dam site fresh fish fries are available for cheap price. Other local shops also available but do not recommend local shops. Try these fish fries. It's a calm place with Beast within. Great view from Bottom and top. Rainy season and summer gives different views.

Sholayar Dam in Tamil Nadu, also called as Upper Sholayar Dam, is part of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project, constructed across the Sholayar river. It is the tallest dam in Tamilnadu. This dam is located 20km from Valparai town on the Valparai Athirapalli road. It's a picturesque spot and offers a great view of the reservoir and Sholayar hills.

We went to Sholayar on our visit to Malakkapara. It was just so beautiful. It looked better than what Malakkapara had to offer. It’s in Kerala Tamilnadu border. The road till Malakkapara was bad for 4-6 kilometres but after that it was really good. Monsoon seems like the best time to visit the dam and the areas nearby. It was so calming and peaceful. It was almost evening when we reached there. It is advised to go a little bit early to enjoy it fully.

Great 360 degree of mountains from top of the dam and the view is just amazing 😍, water looks so blue and the blue sky makes it so much dramatic for pictures and videos. Do visit and enjoy the natural beauty

A short distance from Valparai Bus Stand. It is not worth visiting from that distance. If you are going from Valparai to Athirappalli, you can stop on the way. No entry ticket and kids can play around the park. There are some shops where we can get Fish fry, bread omelette and other snacks

SHOLAYAR DAM is located 20 km from Valparai, a hill station in the Anaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India. The concrete dam construction completed and got functional in 1965. This dam is constructed above the Chalakkudi river with a length of 430.6 mtr. It has a water storage capacity of 160 feet. The way to the dam was extremely mesmerizing. Greeny nature with unpolluted fresh air. There's no specific time to visit this place. Avoid late night travelling, chances of animal crossing are higher on these roads.

Just a descent place to visit! This dam may be a good view point but unfortunately I didn't find much inspiration or excitement over there 😒 (someone from the foothill of Idukki or similar location would feel the same). If you've seen any other dam before , this is same!! The landscape is nice and the driving experience all the way through will be a pleasure!

Peaceful vibe. Calm and quiet atmosphere. Family friendly place. Also the climate at present is best. People coming from kerala should look out for pothole filled road that stretches for 25 km before reaching Valparai. Beware of wild animal crossing on the read in late evenings.

Dam was full capacity when we saw it. Awesome lake..sad that with such a beautiful lake, govt does not initiate tourism like speed boats , jet ski etc. We have so many beautiful places for tourism development but very poorly utilised

The dam is a astonishing structure. Gates were closed and no Vehicles were allowed inside dam premises. Small eateries are available near to the dam.
