Beautiful with so much history within the walls of the temple. Such a grandeur. The temple is layered with grace and Ancient history. The temple has a "Hall of Thousand pillars" and each pillar is carved with various sculptures. There is free entry and paid entry for Rs 100 and 50. Paid will you get you through the crowd easily and there are mini sweet stalls inside the temple. Usually a very crowded place so people coming in bike and car better find their own parking spot somewhere else. Note: Mobile phones not allowed inside the temple.

Truly a milestone in Indian historical architecture. Temple has its own legacy to say. The positivity we get in here is the most best thing . And we had free food that was served inside the temple post darshan which can't be explained just by words. The food was divine just as the temple. Must visit !!! Highly recommended.. !!!

I love visiting temples because they are so impressive and beautiful. The way they are built, with all the intricate details and carvings, is just amazing. I always wonder how they managed to create such stunning structures without modern technology. The sculptures are also very captivating, especially the ones that depict gods and goddesses. They have such expressive faces and poses, and they seem to tell a story. I feel like I can learn a lot about the culture and history of the place by looking at them. Temples are not just places of worship, but also places of art and inspiration. Please make a note that the Timings 4:30AM to 12:30PM and 4:30PM to 9:00PM

Stunning place, definitely worthy your visit. Please expect crowds and long time standing in lines. You will need to wear long trousers, no shoes, and you can’t carry cameras and phones. There is no access between 13:00 and 16:00. You can gain entry through either of four towers. Architecture and sculptures are unique and unforgettable. Look also for secondary gates located outside of main towers, they are beautiful and very interesting in their own right. The temple complex looks breathtaking from afar too. Try to get to any of the hilltops in Madurai - views from there can amaze you!! Their are 4 entrances to the temple. The East one is the main entrance. The majestic gates are crafted with one of the finest architecture ever to be seen. Very astonishing view at sunset time. Eco friendly restrooms available. Baby feeding rooms separately available too. A very beautiful temple and very important in Hinduism

Superb Dravidian architecture. You can't take mobile phones inside so plan accordingly. There are four entry gates so you can enter from any of those. There are two queues , one free/ general and other paid/premium. Take your time, walk around temple to see the beauty & you'll get anything like cloths & different types of street food from there...

I visited the temple over the weekend and it took almost 2.5 hours to complete Darshan without any special tickets. Special tickets are also available for 50-100 and you can do it quickly. Luggage mobile phones and other gadgets are not allowed. They have proper management for depositing your precious luggage and mobile phones.

Beautiful temple located in the center of Madurai. It was very big temple with four entrances. Temple will be closed in the afternoon from 12.30 PM to 4 PM. Mobile phones, electronic gadgets and bags must be kept outside in a ticket counter. Dress code was strictly followed.

A must place for anyone visiting Madurai. It’s a divine Magnificent place to see. The architecture is a must see and don’t go with any cool drinks (juice) they only allow water inside (they don’t have packaged water inside the temple). Leave the cellphones and slippers in the counter outside the temple or at your hotel u stay or leave in the car. They don’t allow any electronic device or smart watch inside.

Madurai Meenakshi Temple is a breathtaking masterpiece of South Indian architecture. The intricate carvings, towering gopurams, and vibrant sculptures create a divine atmosphere. The temple's historical significance and cultural richness make it a must-visit. The bustling temple complex reflects the spiritual and religious fervor of Madurai. Ensure to explore its various shrines, hallways, and the sacred tank. However, the crowds can be overwhelming, especially during festivals. Despite this, the Meenakshi Temple stands as a testament to the city's deep-rooted traditions and devotion.

It is a very historic temple in Madurai. It is a must visit temple and it is a very big temple. It is very difficult to cover the whole temple, because it is very big. We have to place the mobile outside the temple and get inside. The architecture is very beautiful. After entering the temple we get a very positive energy. There are guides outside the temple and they explain about the history of temple and all areas. Please carry some cash in order to place the mobiles in the store room. There is also a very big parking lot near the temple where we can park the car at ease.

Blissful powerful temple. Many parts were under renovation. The gopura needs cleaning though. They get so much revenue through donations why can't they clean once in a month? This is a age of drone photography it's better all temples think of having a great view from top as well and not just from sides.

Must visit temple, it's a very big temple with 4 huge temple towers(gopuram) spread across all directions. It has north, west, east and south towers and astonishing to see such huge temple towers with excellent architectures and work. Lot of people from other states visiting thus temple and temple provides mobile/luggage centre with minimal cost. Mobiles/laptops/bags are not allowed. Huge pond is located inside the temple. Very powerful place and God, government should take care of this temple and do renovation work.

Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple ❤️ What a marvelous architecture and sculptures. It's a must visit temple, it holds a great history and culture. We had a really great experience throughout. The waiting time is long, since it's a big temple and will be crowded throughout the day. Mobiles and other electronic gadgets are strictly not allowed inside the temple, they'll collect it outside the entrance. It takes time to cover the whole temple, since its huge. There's a temple elephant 🐘 named 'parvathi', she's very cute and beautiful. I would love to visit this temple and Madurai again

Wonderful place to visit. Cannot believe until you visit. The sculpture and architecture is nowhere in my knowledge. A must visit and just to imagine how it was possible to create this masterpiece such a long time ago, no cain, no machines like we have today. But of course there was something that made it possible to happen probably human intelligence.

This is a very ornate temple with artistic columns and intricate carvings. It traces its origins from the sixth century, and carries the ancient vibe. It has four entrances, and you are not permitted to wear footwear or carry mobile phones while entering the temple. Accessibility score: two on five. As it is very old, the temple is not at all accessible to persons with disabilities. It does not have wheelchair access, and persons with blindness will find it difficult even with assistance. Though there is supposed to be a priority queue for persons with disabilities, we were unable to find it and the guards were not at all helpful.

This temple comes to mind when you hear the name Madurai. Being a very old temple, this place is very beautiful. The interior stone work is all amazing. While everything is good, the cleanliness here is very poor. The temple and its surroundings are very dirty. As soon as it rained a little, the place was completely covered in water.

Amazing!!!! Mobile phones are not allowed. If you visit in the evening make sure you click some photos (of the outside) before entering the temple. The queue usually is very long and if you don't take special darshan ticket be prepared for a surprise - the queue is way too longer than what is visible from the outside. But, on the positive side, free darshan in a way takes you almost around all the corners of the temple so you get to see more :-)

Meenakshi Temple (also referred to as Meenakshi Amman Temple or Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple also spelled as Meenaatchi Temple)[3] is a historic Hindu temple located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River[4] in the temple city[5] of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to Thirukamakottam udaya aaludaiya nachiyar (திருக்காமக்கோட்டம் உடைய ஆளுடைய நாச்சியார்) Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, and her consort, Sundareshwar, a form of Shiva.[6][7] The temple is at the center of the ancient temple city of Madurai mentioned in the Tamil Sangam literature, with the goddess temple mentioned in 6th century CE texts.[8] This temple is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam. The Paadal Petra sthalam are 275 temples of lord Shiva that are revered in the verses of Tamil Saiva Nayanars of 6th-9th century CE.

Sri Meenakshi Temple is a historic temple located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River in the temple city of Madurai. It is dedicated to Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, and her consort, Sundareshwar, a form of Shiva. Synonymous with Madurai is the Meenakshi Sundareswarar twin Temple, the pivot around which the city has evolved. It is believed that Lord Shiva assumed the form of Sundareswarar (the handsome one) and married Parvati (Meenakshi) at the site where the temple is currently located. Renowned for its astonishing architecture, Meenakshi Temple was nominated as one of the Wonders of the World. However, the temple is definitely one of the ‘Wonders of India’. It is also one of the main attractions of South India with thousands of devotees thronging it every day. A striking feature of the temple is the astonishing structure know as “Ayiramkaal Mandapam” or the Hall of Thousand Pillars and each pillar features high, ornate, bold sculptures that look life like. View from any angle these pillars appear to be in a straight line, an architectural masterpiece indeed In the outermost corridors are situated the matchless musical pillars carved out of stones. When it is tapped, each pillar produces different musical note. Very nice place to visit

One of the best and largest Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai, Tamilnadu. Very well maintained and very neat. The temple has four Rajagopurams , there are five towers on top of the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord, three on top of the sanctum sanctorum of the Goddess and two golden towers or gopurams, all which have been exquisitely designed and sculptured. Yesterday went to temple. Heavily crowded. Good safety measures are taken by government. No mobile phones, no camera are allowed inside this temple. There is a place for safe custody of mobile phones, luggage etc. There are two entrance to see amman. One is free entrance and the other is Rs 50/- entrance to see amman only. If Rs 100/- entrance ticket is taken we are allowed to have Darshan for goddess meenakshi amman and also for Darshan of lord nama Sivaya. Free laddu is given to each person. Everything is very neatly maintained. Have a very good Darshan. There is some spiritual power once you step in, which one can feel God's presence. Really Great atmosphere. Thanks to our government for organizing everything very neatly and providing all round security for all of our welfare. Have a happy Darshan.

World famous temple at the heart of Madurai city. A quiet place of worship with many historical importance. People other than Hindus are allowed up to the pool. Go early if you want to witness everything. Stunning Amman temple. Opens at 4pm when we went on a Monday. Lots of history here and very powerful temple. Be patient with the pushing and shoving, people all travel from each end of the world and each devotees journey is different to come and witness amma. Just be patient. Be sure to not carry lighters and cigarettes with you. Deposit your phone and bags at the counters before you enter, it is extremely safe.

The temple is a major pilgrimage destination within the Shaivism tradition, dedicated to Meenakshi Devi and Shiva. However, the temple includes Vishnu in many narratives, sculptures and rituals as he is considered to be Meenakshi's brother. This has made this temple and Madurai as the "southern Mathura", one included in Vaishnava texts. The Meenakshi temple also includes Lakshmi, flute playing Krishna, Rukmini, Brahma, Saraswati, other Vedic and Puranic deities, as well as artwork showing narratives from major Hindu texts.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the renowned Minakshi Temple, and it was truly a remarkable experience. Here's my review based on my visit: Architecture and Design: The Minakshi Temple is a stunning masterpiece of architecture and design. The intricate carvings, majestic towers, and vibrant colors make it a visual delight. The temple's Dravidian style of architecture is awe-inspiring, with each detail meticulously crafted. The temple complex is vast and well-maintained, allowing visitors to appreciate the grandeur of the structure. Spiritual Significance: The Minakshi Temple holds immense spiritual significance for devotees of Hinduism. It is dedicated to Goddess Minakshi, a form of Goddess Parvati. The temple's sanctum sanctorum is believed to house the deity, and devotees flock from all over to seek her blessings. The atmosphere inside the temple is charged with devotion and reverence, creating a deeply spiritual ambiance. Art and Sculptures: The temple's intricate sculptures and artwork are truly breathtaking. The sculptures depict various mythological stories and deities, showcasing the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans. Each sculpture is a work of art, and the attention to detail is remarkable. Exploring the temple complex feels like stepping into a living museum of ancient Indian art. Maintenance and Cleanliness: The Minakshi Temple is well-maintained and kept clean, despite receiving a large number of visitors daily. The temple authorities and staff deserve credit for their efforts in ensuring cleanliness and order within the premises. The pathways, halls, and courtyards are regularly cleaned, creating a pleasant and welcoming environment for visitors. Visitor Experience: As a visitor, I found the overall experience at the Minakshi Temple to be enriching and captivating. The serene atmosphere, devotional fervor, and architectural splendor all contribute to a memorable visit. It is advisable to visit during weekdays or non-peak hours to avoid large crowds and to fully appreciate the temple's tranquility. Guides and Information: The temple provides guides who offer insightful information about the temple's history, significance, and the stories depicted in the sculptures. Engaging the services of a guide can enhance your understanding and appreciation of the temple. Accessibility: The Minakshi Temple is easily accessible, located in the heart of the city. It is well-connected by road and public transportation. Facilities such as parking, restrooms, and drinking water are available for the convenience of visitors. Overall, the Minakshi Temple is a marvel of architecture, spirituality, and cultural heritage. A visit to this sacred place is not only a religious experience but also an opportunity to witness the artistic brilliance of ancient India. Whether you're a devotee or a lover of art and history, the Minakshi Temple is a must-visit destination that will leave a lasting impression.

I had visited 1 year ago..... Meenakshi temple or Meenakshi Amman temple or Meenakshi Sundareshwarar temple....This temple has so many names... It's located at temple City Madurai in Tamilnadu State.... Meenakshi a form of Goddess Parvati and Sundareshwarar a form of God Shiva...This temple consists of monuments...This temple was built by King kulasekara Pandya...he was from Pandya dynasty...The temple was rebuilt by Hindu nayaka dynasty Vishwanatha nayaka....the sculptures are beautiful... Approximately 20,000 people per day visit this temple.... It's a very complex temple...the complex work of temple belongs to Nayak dynasty.... They enlarged the complex and redesigned the temple... The Meenakshi temple is a prime example of Dravidian architecture- a style of Hindu architecture common in southern India... Characteristics of Dravidian architecture often include covered porches on temple and tall entry gate tower, many pillared halls and a water tank or water reservoir for ritual bathing... Meenakshi temple is the Spiritual centre of Madurai.... It's not too far from Chennai... Madurai city also called as Sleepless city.... Navaratri and cradle and aavanimolam festival celebrated here...This temple is Tamil architecture type... You can also enjoy Madurai city..A historical city...Jigarthanda is famous here..You can also visit Madurai Palace which is also called as Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal...it's beautiful....I have never seen such type of beautiful city.....It'amazing...This place is giving different ecstasy....Best place to visit in Tamilnadu...A thing of Beauty is joy forever...

One of the most famous pilgrimages, Meenakshi Madurai Temple, is a place worth seeing by every art lover. This architectural masterpiece is a finest example of Dravidian style of architecture. The most important part of Madurai tour, this temple was built during the Pandya reign and is now under the administration of HR and CE department of Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswara, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva, this temple is located in the heart of Madurai city. Madurai city in the shape of lotus surrounds the temple. Meenakshi temple is considered to one of the oldest and the largest temples of India. Majestic architecture, intricate carvings, beautiful paintings, exquisite sculptures and an ancient history associated to it makes this temple one of the most visited tourist destination of South India.

The vibe and the beauty of Meenakshi Amman temple is top notch. The best part is they wouldn’t allow phones inside. So all the place is for yourself so that you can really be there in the moment when we are praying. I highly recommend taking a walk around the temple covering all the towers. Try not to look for parking near the gates. Instead park somewhere else and you can always take an auto to north tower for 100/-. Must visit place.

It has very Amazing architecture, definitely must visit in a lifetime. It's fully crowded and long time standing in lines. There is an option to get into special darshan by paying Rs.200 per person but that also have the same crowd. There is no access between 13:00 and 16:00. You can gain entry through either of four towers. The mobile needs to be handed for the 5rs each at the entrance. There is a lake inbetween with pleasant ambiance and lighting. For old people and not able to walk there is a wheelchair facility near the locker area and some other support will be provided. Restrooms available. Baby feeding rooms separately available too. A very beautiful temple but one needs patience to see the Amman after standing and waiting for longer time.

Beautiful place. One of the famous place in Madurai. It will take around 50min to 1hr for the Darshan. Locker room facilities, ATM, pay and use toilets for both men and women are available here. One should use normal dress code or traditional dhoti to enter inside the temple. Short pant or half pant etc. are strictly not allowed inside the main temple. Parking is also available outside. From Madurai station, book a cab or auto to the temple, cabs and autos are always available. It is better to book your auto through Uber.

Synonymous with Madurai is the Meenakshi Sundareswarar twin Temple, the pivot around which the city has evolved. The Meenakshi Temple complex is literally a city – one of the largest of its kind in India and undoubtedly one of the oldest too. The temple grew with the contribution of each dynasty and victorious monarchs, into an enormous complex extending over an area of 65000 Sq m. The temple first came into being 2000 years ago and was substantially expanded during the regime of Thirumalai Nayak(1623-55 AD). Lord Siva in his incarnation as Sundareswarar and his fish-eyed spouse, Meenakshi, are enshrined in this twin temple. There are five massive gateways enclosing these two shrines. Even a casual visitor is fascinated by the many paintings and sculptures.
