Colachel
is
a
quaint
little
beachside
town
in
Nagercoil.
It
is
a
town
with
multiple
attractions.
It's
not
overcrowded
at
any
time/
any
day.
What
you
can
do
here
to
make
it
a
wholesome
experience:
1.
Spend
time
on
the
beach.
Not
crowded,
so
that's
a
plus.
2.
There
is
a
bridge-like
structure
which
was
built
about
2
decades
ago
as
part
of
a
grand
plan
to
build
a
harbour,
it
is
now
weather-beaten
and
utterly
neglected.
So
what??,
it
makes
for
some
great
pictures
and
an
amazing
feel
of
the
sea!
3.
Go
a
little
further
(
about
half
km)
to
the
main
fishing
harbour
which
is
a
buzzing
hub
of
activity.
You
can
buy
fresh
fish
by
shouting
out
at
the
local
auction
(
if
you
want
to
buy
a
good
quantity-
say
atleast
5
kilos).
Or
you
can
just
watch
as
the
auctions
keep
happening
and
the
fishing
folks
bring
in
their
catch
from
the
numerous
boats
that
line
the
coast.
4.
You
can
take
a
walk
from
here
towards
the
rocky
path
that
goes
into
the
sea.
You
do
get
lovely
photographs
from
there.
If
you
lucky
with
the
weather
and
the
visiting
month,
you
may
also
be
able
to
see
the
sunset.
5.
A
historical
monument
is
the
Colachel
war
memorial.
It
houses
the
Colachel
pillar.
It's
a
well
maintained,
tidy
and
interesting
place.
It
would
not
take
more
than
15
minutes
of
your
time.
A
must
visit
to
know
a
proud
piece
of
history
which
is
frequently
missed.
6.
Go
to
the
town
and
enjoy
local
snacks
and
amazing
local
food.
(Though
we
localites
would
prefer
fish
cooked
at
home).
Try
the
pazha-roast
(You
may
call
it
'stuffed
banana
fruit
fritters')
at
the
tea
shop
adjoining
the
Colachel
bus
stand
(open
on
week
days
only).
Also
try
the
'modhagam'
-
a
local
sweet
delicacy.
Parotta
(or
Protta-in
local
lingo!)
with
chicken/meat
are
a
must.
You
can
also
get
the
traditional
Nagercoil
meals
served
on
banana
leaves
in
the
afternoon.
7.
Take
the
beach
road
from
Colachel
and
go
upto
Muttom
beach
and
experience
the
scenic
drive.
(
I
would
suggest
you
keep
the
windows
down!!)
A
word
of
advice:
Do
not
be
finnicky
about
cleanliness
when
you
are
here.
Otherwise
you
wouldn't
enjoy
the
place.
But
make
sure
you
don't
contribute
to
the
littering!
Keep
plastics
away!
