Vikram Shila was an Indian Buddhist monk who lived in the 8th century CE. He was a master of the principles of Buddhism and a renowned scholar of Buddhist philosophy and literature. He was the founder of the order of the Vikramshila University, which was one of the most important Buddhist universities of its time. He was also a great teacher and mentor to many of his students, including the famous Buddhist scholar and philosopher Atisha. He was a major figure in the revival of Buddhism in India in the 8th century and is credited with helping to spread the teachings of the Buddha from India to Tibet. He is said to have been a disciple of the great Indian Buddhist master Shantarakshita.

Vikramshila University which is situated in antichak near by kahalgaon is similar to the Nalanda University but it is so good from the Nalanda University and it is the best history to see her and all person will come from the other country will must watch here because this is very good place.Constructed in the time of pal dynasty to be precise Dharampal. It was famous for tantarik bhudism. Bkhteyar Khilji and his army destroyed it along with Nalanda University. Decline of Buddhism relegion started with the destruction of these University.Awesome site, but government needs to promote this and make a easy way to reach for interest tourists. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in bhagalpur or nearby. once you visit this place you will realise why india used to be the education hub in ancient times. the architecture, history, the carvings, everything about these ruins is amazing. If you want to go there please visit in winter season ( October to February). You feel like coming to this place again and again. Though the road is rough yet it is worth the pain. The ruins reminds you of the glorious past and fills you with pride. A must visit for the first timers.

Vikramshila University was established by King Dharmapala. It was destroyed by Bhakhtiyar Khalji around 1193. The remains of the ancient university have been partially excavated in kahalgaon Bhagalpur district, Bihar state, India, and the process is still underway.

    (Translated by Google) Vikramashila University known as the pride of India and Bihar is one of the ancient universities of India. In ancient times, our country is not there, students from many countries of the world used to come here to study. It was not easy for the craftsmen of our country to give such a grand appearance to this university in such ancient times.

Vikramshila University was one among the three best universities of ancient India. This university which sprawls over an area of 100 acres was founded by Dharampala, a ruler of Pala dynasty in the late 8th century. It prospered for about four centuries before it was destroyed including the other two universities by Bakhtiyar Khilji around 1193. The university at one point of time was traversed by a lot of students and teachers from various parts of Asia. But when the university underwent destruction, it was totally absconded and remained under-cover for centuries. There are plenty of articles available on the web. The place deserves a good spot in our conscious memory!

This is the very nice place to visit in Bhagalpur. If you our searching a tourist place. This place is the oldest place in Bihar. In ancient times this place is the no 1 University in all over the world. From many other countries students come to Vikramshila University to study. But when come to India they destroyed this school. Open their own school. From that time it became a tourist place. In this place there is forest also. You visit the forest. This will provide you a complete relax.

Vikramashila was established by the Pala emperorDharmapala (783 to 820) in response to a supposed decline in the quality of scholarship at Nalanda. Atiśa, the renowned pandita, is sometimes listed as a notable abbot. It was allegedly destroyed by the forces of Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji around 1193. A number of monasteries grew up during the Pāla period in ancient Bengal and Magadha. According to Tibetan sources, five great Mahaviharas stood out: Vikramashila, the premier university of the era; Nalanda, past its prime but still illustrious, Somapura, Odantapura, and Jagaddala.[2] The five monasteries formed a network; "all of them were under state supervision" and there existed "a system of co-ordination among them. It seems from the evidence that the different seats of Buddhist learning that functioned in eastern India under the Pāla were regarded together as forming a network, an interlinked group of institutions," and it was common for great scholars to move easily from position to position among them. Vikramashila was founded by Pāla king Dharmapala in the late 8th or early 9th century. It prospered for about four centuries before it was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khiljialong with the other major centres of Buddhism in India around 1193. Vikramashila is known to us mainly through Tibetan sources, especially the writings of Tāranātha, the Tibetan monk historian of the 16th–17th centuries. Vikramashila was one of the largest Buddhist universities, with more than one hundred teachers and about one thousand students. It produced eminent scholars who were often invited by foreign countries to spread Buddhist learning, culture and religion. The most distinguished and eminent among all was Atisha Dipankara, a founder of the Sarma traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Subjects like philosophy, grammar, metaphysics, Indian logic etc. were taught here, but the most important branch of learning was Buddhist tantra.

A cultural heritage site. It tells a lot about indian history and its ancient education system. It is well developed and promoted for tourism but it needs regular maintenance. More work needs to be done to promote national and international tourism in here.

Exploring the Vikramshila Ruins offers a glimpse into the rich history of Indian education system and its impact on the region. The Vikramshila Ruins are an ancient archaeological site in Bihar, India. These ruins hold historical significance as they were once a prominent center of Buddhist learning during the Pala dynasty. The site includes the remains of a monastic complex, with various structures like temples, stupas, and residential quarters. It was known as a major seat of Buddhist scholarship and attracted scholars from around Asia. The architectural layout and artifacts found here provide insights into the intellectual and cultural exchange that took place in the region.

Vikramshila University is presently located near the river Ganges in Village Antichak kahalgaon, Bhagalpur district of Bihar, India. The university was founded by King Dharmapala of the Pala dynasty between 770 ADE to 810 ADE. This Mahavihara later developed into one of the most prominent universities in India. Famous Buddhist monks were called from here in the 9th century by the King of Tibet to preach their religion. The university had about 160 viharas with more than 3000 indigenous and foreign students studying Buddhist education. The fame of this university was at its peak in the mid-11th century. The name of Dipankar Shri Gyan and Abhyankar, Mitra, gyanshri, vairochan, racshit, jetari, ratnakar was prominent in the famous masters of this university. The entire remains found in excavation work done by Indian Archeology between 1972 and 1982 are preserved in a museum near the Buddhist site. This museum was established in 2004. Situated at Antichak in Kahalgaon sub-division, 38 KM from Bhagalpur, ancient Vikramshila University was famous as a Centre of learning during the Pala dynasty. The university was established by the King Dharmpala. Two things impressed Dharmpala and motivated him to establish the university; first, the rocky hillock anchored around the confluence of the Kosi and Ganga rivers at Bateshwar Sthan was not only a scenic attraction but also a popular Tantric site. Second, the Ganga here was Uttar Vahini (flowing northwards) and as such, the place was a pilgrim center which drew large crowds during Varsavardhana

One of the oldest University and Library of the world. The place is located in Kahalgao, Bhagalpur. 6-7 km distance from Kahalgao railway station and few km away from NTPC residential area. A decent place might be attractive for ancient place visitors. If you are a normal person and want to see this place I don't recommend. If you are a tiktoker and one who love to take pictures it's all yours. A ticket of around 20 rupees.

(Translated by Google) This university retained its supremacy in the world famous university of ancient India for a long time. It was at that time when the propagation of Buddhist education in Bihar was going on very fast, at the same time by the famous ruler of Pala dynasty, Dharmapala. The university was established, this university was a unique place of natural beauty in terms of education in its time, this university not only people of India but also people from different countries of the world also came to study here and understand Buddhist culture- In order to understand and disseminate the knowledge related to Buddhist literature here, many scholars have studied and spread Buddhist culture in other countries too, with full body and mind, The reason is that even today there are Buddhist killing communities exist in many countries of the world. The development of Buddhist culture was developed only in Magadha Mahajanapada of Bihar state of India, which was first Nalanda University, Taxila University and Habitat University At the same time, this university was built at a very fast pace, and Bakhtiar Khilji, a commander of Mohammad Gauri destroyed the university, and this college was destroyed at the same time. I set fire to it so that the propagation of Buddhist literature could not be spread and this university was ruined for the purpose of attracting people to the religion of Islam. This university could not remain a center of education at the present time but one The remains of this university are definitely present as a tourist place, even today, 20% is present, what is the construction of a museum here, in which the material found from the mining of this university has been collected, mostly granite and from the excavation of this university. Statues of Buddha made of sandstone are found, thus this university has a very different identity and a lot of history sitting under it. This will take more effort to reach than Nalanda, but it’s interesting and worth a visit (if you have the time). It shows a more fortified university that was essentially a Buddhism-generator for the entire area. The stupa is inspiring to see and the farm surrounding adds to the charm . For my visit I made the day trip from Bhagalpur , using the 9:30 train to reach. You’ll have to take an auto after arriving at the train station .

But there is one thing left that is peacefulness and greenery. So one can easily go and do picnic with their family whole day.

Atiśa, the renowned pandita, is sometimes listed as a notable abbot. It was allegedly destroyed by the forces of Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khalji around 1193.

(Translated by Google) Nyc place but no maintenance The name of this park is behalf of the name of the cheif minister of shri bhola shastri he was the best cm of Bihar. Bhola shastri was an Indian freedom fighter and on three occasions between 1968-71 was C M of bihar state in India. Bhola Paswan was a highly educated member of the downtrodden caste and the Shastri title was due to his extensive knowledge. Bhola Paswan was the first Harijan Chief minister. Bhola Paswan Shastri was a fighter extremely honest and patriotic freedom. He was active in the independence movement inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Despite coming from a poor family, he was very strong intellectually. Congress has voted three times as their leader and he was the chief of the three monolithic state. His tenure was undeniable and his political and transparent life Kshastri live anyway were like Lal Bahadur Shastri, the scribes were. Ie Bhola Paswan, who was the son of the posts of Nilhe British had achieved Shastri degree of BHU. Was active in politics. Indira Gandhi made them three times Bihar chief minister once or twice Center. But they sincerely memorial work properly was such that it was not so much money in dead account Skekbirnchi Paswan, who is the nephew of Shastri. He had Mukhagni only Shastri. Shastri was not any children. Nothing was sure he had separated from his wife. He was performed Shraddha Karma by the then District Collector of Purnia. All the village people was taken to Purnia by car. Since he had offered the fire, Shraddh was also completed by him. Shastri's family has got one or two Indira houses from the government. Although he never asked for anything. (Original) Nyc place but no maintenance The name of this park is behalf of the name of the cheif minister of shri bhola shastri he was the best cm of Bihar. Bhola shastri was an Indian freedom fighter and on three occasions between 1968-71 was C M of bihar state in India. Bhola Paswan was a highly educated member of the downtrodden caste and the Shastri title was due to his extensive knowledge. Bhola Paswan was the first Harijan Chief minister .
