Went here because of the place’s reputation online as one of the best Caribbean food places in DC (if not the best). We got the fried whole Caribbean snapper fish. It was tasty, but at $49 (what the current market price was) it was very expensive. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t be willing to spend that much on it again. If sharing this with someone else, then you may want something else too since you’ll still be slightly hungry at the end. The staff is friendly, but they put an automatic 20% “service fee” on, then make sure to emphasize to you that the service fee goes 100% to the people in the back of the kitchen and is not a tip for your server. So you basically feel guilt tripped to end up paying 40% extra for your meal. I highly recommend they change this policy. Even if it means increasing the price of dishes on the menu by building the service fee into it ahead of time, that would ultimately be better than basically making people feel lousy or awkward at the end of the meal. Have people pay just the tip at the end

I came here in July 2021, almost a year ago, and it was some of the best food and service I’ve ever had in my life. Like I can literally remember tasting the complimentary flavors of seasoning in the Oxtail from jasmine flowers to allspice. It was a truly enlightening culinary experience and the staff were so friendly, almost like it was a dinner at a family friends house. They delighted in serving us. Till this day, it has been and may continue to be the best food I’ve had this decade. I had promised to write a review, forgot at first, and have remembered the experience every month since then. Had to finally come back and write it. It is only fair.

Good experience, nice to try once. My favorite were the cocktails and the dessert. They were so tasty! But I am not a sweet tooth, I prefer enjoying the main meal. My husband and I found the food a bit too greasy, I was getting grossed out by the end. It is also an expensive meal...

Best oxtail I’ve ever had in my entire life, I had a dream about it last night. The coconut rice was the best possible pairing with the oxtail, we devoured it. I would recommend getting the bread pudding, it was 10/10. I wouldn’t order the flan as it didn’t taste nearly as good as the bread pudding. It also didn’t look like the photo.

Extremely poor service , we we’re basically ignored at the bar. The bartender was nice and tried to accommodate us but We had to ask for everything including plates and silverware. Our meals where delivered the same time as the appetizers. The food was underwhelming, not for anyone with a seasoned palette. The jerk wings were so salty and the oxtails and pepper pot had no bold flavors or heat. The drinks were just okay for the price. The entire restaurant was quite small, and we had to deal with flies while seated. Overall a very poor first impression.

Amazing place! I have brought over 15 people here with me over a few months! The service is amazing! Tim and Jade are just fantastic! They treat me and my guests so well...that they go back over an over again! The jerk wings are amazing! The best I have had in the entire DMV area and I have tried so many! The oxtail is to die for! Falls right off the bone. The fish is juicy and just the right crisp! So many good things about this place. They plan to open upstairs soon and another location in Union Market! So worth it! 🇯🇲🇹🇹

In DC, visiting my brother, and he suggested this place to dine. The bartender was fun and friendly. He recommended the crispy kale, and it didn't disappointed. The rolls were soft and hot. And the habanero butter was a delight. We enjoyed a cocktail at the bar while waiting for our table. The wait wasn't long at all. Thank you for getting my weekend started on the right foot.

A wonderful cozy Caribbean spot on H Street!! Service was attentive, food was affordable and delicious! The flavors were so balanced, you really can’t get any better than this. We were seated immediately and food came out super fast. Huge plus that they sanitize each table between use. We look forward to visiting in the future and hopefully trying the dinner menu then!!

Canes is the TRUTH! The food and service were outstanding. Whoever is doing the cooking knows what they are doing. Everything had flavor and was seasoned to perfection. The staff was attentive and on point. Be sure to check them out because they won't disappoint.

Fantastic food and drinks at a small but welcoming and lively spot. So many great vegetarian options, from the fritters to the crispy kale to the tiffin. The cocktails are a highlight, I would drink an ‘Island Life’ everyday if I could. Can’t wait to come back to try all the menu items! Unfortunately they don’t have outdoor seating, would love to see them add this in the future.

This is an amazing spot. The food was sooo good, it almost derailed our plan for a neighborhood food crawl. We had to use our will power to refrain from just eating our full dinner here instead of the rest of the crawl. The Doubles were ON POINT. I wanted to order three more and call it a night. Jerk Wings were smoky, not too spicy. Check it out!

The food was great, fast service as well. I had curry chicken it was a tad salty, maybe marinated a while, still edible. My friend had the oxtail bowl, she loved it. We shared the jerk wings and bread so bomb. I recommend this place and we went around 1 on a Saturday, sat right down. There are no reservations.

Jerk chicken wings were the star of the show! So good we ordered a second. Would also recommend the pork belly. Bread pudding was decent but a little cold in the middle and a bit dry - I wish it had more whipped cream or sauce.

Cane is always a hit for me! Never disappoints me! I’ll dine in sometimes or I will Uber eats. It’s always the same ! Consistent! If you are dinning it, the place is extremely small so please make reservations! You might think you can sit at the bar, baby no💁🏾‍♀️. It’s like 5 seats at the bar and they won’t let you sit there until 5:00pm. If you don’t have reservations and still want to visit, it’s definitely worth the wait! The jerk chicken wings with the sauce they provide is 🔥 gotta get that Kale! It has like a chutney sauce and a little spicy sauce with nuts on top! OMG 😋! Gotta get those Trini wings! My mouth is watering just writing this! 😜! If you are looking for an array of liquors they only have rum drinks! Do don’t expect to get a margarita! This is a Trinidadian restaurant not Mexican! If I could give them a 10 definitely! This is my go to place!

We checked this place out Saturday evening; it was an electric vibe with great Afro-sound beats. The oxtails we ordered were rich in texture and flavorful and teasing to the palate. The chicken, crispy kale, and tomato sauce were also delicious. Jade, who took our order, was the real deal; the whole staff makes you feel welcome. We will definitely come back.

Excellent service, food and ambiance! Do yourself a favor and GO! We tried the location on H street and loved everything about it. We had the pork belly appetizer (excellent) and the ox tails and snapper as entrees (double excellent) - the oxtails were fall off the bone delicious and the snapper was crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth delicious on the inside! It came with yummy coconut rice - my son had a couple different rum cocktails- both amazing!

Best meal of our DC trip, top 10 lifetime eat list for sure. My boy is rarely without words. When he started in on the fish, it was total silence until there was nothing but bones left on the plate. Daughter loved the oxtail. We had curries and some jerk wings. Spicy, but not excessively hot. So much flavor. The sauces. Initially intimidated by the short menu. Fantastic server guided our order, what great staff. Find room to indulge in coconut flan.

I have been dying to try this spot over on H St for some time and it did not disappoint. Cannot recommend bellying up to the bar enough! Jasmine was incredible, patient, and gave the best recommendations. We ended up with the doubles, the jerk wings, the pork belly, and the oxtail, plus the cane fever rum cocktail was spicy and delicious. We went in early on a Tuesday and they weren’t full at all — a bonus, since there are only four seats at the bar! Looking forward to making it back soon.

Went for lunch , tried the jerk wings , curry chicken and potatoes , and the trini Chinese chicken . Everything was amazing !!! I was only able to snap a picture of the curry but trust me when I say this is a great spot to go to for Carribean food. The service is always awesome , a bunch of people who love their jobs. Overall 10/10

Upscale Caribbean cuisine That is also authentic is almost unheard of. The manager and staff were so friendly I strongly recommend you come here if you want a more fancy version of your favorite Caribbean food without sacrificing the taste you and texture you love. We had the herbivore spread and 2 orders and doubles and 2 orders of phourlie. And sorrel Amazing

My boyfriend read some great reviews on this place. We went as an excursion as we are not from the area. He ordered the trini Chinese chicken, separately an order of rice. I ordered the Oxtails and expected to pay market price. The food was seasoned very well. My boyfriend was underwhelmed with his food, the portions do not depict that of a Caribbean restaurant. The gratuity was explained quickly as to where we had to stop and check the receipt. The waitress was nice , but if you want to be catered to this will not be thay place. We spent $100+ and left hungry. We won't be back.

I almost gave a 4 star due to the online ordering process but the taste exceeded my expectations. So 5 star it is. I’m enjoy unique well thought out quality food. It’s clear someone knows what they are doing in the kitchen. I had the Trini Chinese chicken and the jet wings. The reviews are accurate and I approve. I also had the bread which was good as well. It was simple but the house made butter made it a winner.

I really enjoyed this place. I ordered the Snapper and Peppa Pot. Both were super yummy but the Snapper was absolutely delicious . I love the sliced peppers and pickled onions along with the green sauce. Coconut rice was good. Just wish they had rice & peas instead. Don't miss out on the Hops bread! Will be coming back!!!
