Beautiful church which is known for the bone room. I got in on a Friday at 3:30 p.m. I tried the previous Monday at 10:30-11:30 and could not get in. The lady there would not speak English to me but after my many questions she gave me a book in English of which I photographed the pages to help future English speaking visitors enjoy this strange but unique place.

To be fair, I only visited the church to see the Golden Chamber, a lady unlocked the door, and took some time to explain about St Ursula, and her demise, together with 11,000 virgins, whose bones are on display. There are containers with skulls, and that of St Ursula is marked with red material. An interesting sight to see and wonder about. Cost 2 euros.

The church is nice, this place is known for it's room of bones. The walls are covered in remains. The wife couldn't stay very long as she was starting to feel uneasy.

Beautiful from what we could see. Problem is that no one from the church was there to let us in to see the golden chamber (bone room). We came earlier in the day and realized they had specific hours for the room. We came back during the open hours and no one was there. We then went outside and waited for 15 more minutes and still no one was inside. What a waste of time. I understand that things come up and people can’t commit to their obligations but from what I’ve read this is a common issue. Haven’t the nuns realized a church needs money to survive. At 2€ per person to enter the chamber they are missing out. About 10 other visitors also were discouraged and left while we were there. Real shame!

Amazing place!!! Really worthpassing by and support their cause. An internal staff member gave us a beautiful touraround the golden chamber and gave me a lot of presents as St. Ursula is known by being a powerful symbol for the feminist cause.

Interesting history but not much information is given (in German or English). Well preserved but not anything I'd recommended visiting unless you have time to kill and are near by. The 'bone' room is cool, but not really anything overly special. The individuals there are all random people who fought and died over whose God was the true God.

The Basilica church of St. Ursula is a minor basilica and one that's associated with the legend of St. Ursula and the 11,000 martyred virgins. The church is supposedly built on the burial grounds of these legendary ladies. The church also has a chamber with a reliquary said to be the bones of some of these martyrs. The church is an attractive Romanesque style building with some interesting contemporary stained glass windows. The balconies over the nave have pretty Romana arches and interestingly, statues underneath each arch. The church is located in north west of Central Cologne and off the main tourist circuit. Worth a visit if you have the time. If you spot the church from afar, be sure to look up at the church spire topped with a crown.

(Translated by Google) This church is - especially because of the interesting prehistory, which one z. B. can get to know via the app "12 Romanesque churches in Cologne" or on the occasion of a tour - particularly interesting to look at. The Golden Chamber is particularly worth seeing, but it costs a small entrance fee.

Ask to see the bone room. Very interesting. Great mythology. The story of how she and the 11/1100/11000 maidens saved Cologne from Attila. Her tears are on the city crest.

Apparently the church is closed on Monday. So if you are visiting and want to visit the Golden Chamber you cannot. This was one of the highlights I was looking forward too. The hours online are incorrect. You can only step inside the church and then there is a gate. There literally was no one inside.

St. Ursula is one of the twelve major Romanesque basilicas in the Old Town of Cologne. She is dedicated to the holy virgin and martyr Ursula and her companions. The prehistory and early history of St. Ursula is reconstructed on the basis of archaeological finds from the war and post-war period as well as the critical interpretation of legends surrounding the "Church of the Blessed Virgin". There is also the Clematius inscription, which dates perhaps from the 9th or 10th century, although it was supposed to have been from around the year 400.

It took 3 visits to get in as the church was closed. The golden chamber was opened not long after we arrived, the lady who volunteers there will gladly talk about the place as best as she can in English. If it is closed when you visit, please try to go back another day. The chamber is located through a door to the right of the main church entrance. I have visited several ossuaries and this one is unique as many of tge skulls are delicately wrapped in material and placed in pretty glass containers. There are also busts of some of the people whose bones are held in there, and there bones are placed inside these busts. There is also a table with items you can buy, a lot cheaper than some ossuary gift shops too! We went to Cologne purely to see this place, we were not disappointed.

Beautiful Church with a great background, lovely stations of the cross paintings and very impressively creepy chapel (bones x million). The Church's guardians are lovely and eager to tell of the Ursula legend. The Google times are wrong though. The metal rood screen is closed at 4 not 5, so you can't look all around if you're a little late.

A really interesting church to visit. Nowhere near as busy as the main cathedral, but definitely a place to check out. If you want to see the bone room reliquaries be sure to go at a time when someone will be there to let you in.

The church is located on a late antique burial ground on the northern road of the Roman city. Since the late 4th century emerged several cult buildings at this point. A late antique memorial building was dedicated to a group of late Roman martyrs, whose traditional number grew from eleven to 11000 in the course of the legendary development, and at whose head the British king's daughter Ursula was born. She became the title saint of the church and next to the Three Wise Men and St. Gereon city patroness of Cologne. A noble women's monastery has existed since the 10th century. In the second quarter of the 12th century, the current church was rebuilt as a three-aisled gallery basilica with a long choir and a tower-crowned western building. The Gothic long choir was built in the last quarter of the 13th century. Before 1300, a second aisle was added on the south side, the so-called Marienschiff, which was extensively redesigned in the 15th century. In the 17th century, the interior was baroque and the splendidly furnished golden chamber was set up for the storage and presentation of the unusually rich treasure trove of relics. 1802 abolition of the women's monastery and subsequent demolition of the convent buildings; St. Ursula has been the parish church since 1804. At the beginning of the 19th century the church was in a precarious structural condition. A reconstruction of the Romanesque stock will take place in the second half of the century; at the same time historicizing new furnishing of the interior. Significant destruction during World War II. 1949-1972 reconstruction under the direction of Karl Band. 1999-2004 restoration. St. Ursula has a rich medieval and modern furnishings.

Such a nice atmosphere in this church. The most Important in historical way is the gold kammer or golden room where the church hide her old reliques. The last several years they are cleaning and restoring the old gold kammer and giving her back its authentic colors and cleaning all the reliques bustes. When you enter the room you are amazed by the Wow-factor. It's absolutely unique above the Alps. There is no reliques room like this. It simply does not exist.

Not a such interesting church from the inside: it is quite simple. The only interesting part it is the bones room, but when we went there during the period of xmas markets, they asked an entrance fee, Where everywhere on the Internet people said that was free. It is a bit to abuse tourists. The outside of the building it is reall nice.
